  • A ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Book Just Accidentally Told Us What the Film Is About

    [ad_1]

As fans patiently await the first official look at July’s highly anticipated sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we now have something to hold us over. The book publisher Random House recently put up a placeholder for an upcoming “Art Of” book, and fans realized that it included a broad but interesting plot synopsis. Just enough to dig into until a trailer arrives.

“Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero,” the publisher’s site reads. “Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past!”

The “four years” reveal is interesting. We didn’t quite know how much time had passed between films yet. It would suggest that, at least, Ned and MJ are, if not done with college, about to finish. As for the rest, it all seems kind of expected. He’s Spider-Man. He’s doing well. A new threat emerges. He has to deal with the past. We probably could’ve guessed most of that. But now, at least, we have it from an official source.

It does open up a lot of questions, though. For example, will the New York setting necessitate a crossover with Daredevil: Born Again? What exactly could be the mystery he’s uncovering here? And also, why mention that he needs to be both physically and mentally strong? That’s kind of weird.

The description goes on to talk about what seems like a pretty cool book. “As Spider-Man: Brand New Day wows moviegoers the world over, discover the behind-the-scenes magic of the film’s visual development—from early concept sketches to final character designs. Explore environments, costumes, and exclusive insights from the next chapter for Marvel’s neighborhood hero!”

If only we could look at it now, we’d have all the answers. However, it won’t be released until August 4, well after all the spoilers are out there. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31.

  • The 2026 Super Bowl May Be Free of Superhero Movies

    [ad_1]

It’s about that time of year again: the Super Bowl, and more specifically, the ads. This is usually when we get a new or first look at some upcoming films, and it seems that tradition will be without many of 2026’s big superheroes.

Per a Deadline report released Sunday evening, Marvel Studios is reportedly not doing any Big Game promo for either Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man: Brand New Day next weekend. The outlet doesn’t give any potential reason as to why, but in both films’ defense, they’re coming out in late December and mid-July, respectively. So if true, it’s probably because it’s not as important to market them in February as it is for more immediate Disney films like Hoppers and The Mandalorian & Groguwhich Deadline speculates will get spots since their March and May dates are closer on the calendar.

When it comes to this year’s DC movies Supergirl and Clayfacethat’s a big question mark. Deadline speculates Warner Bros. will continue to sit out the actual Super Bowl alongside Netflix and Apple, and instead put out something in the week before the game so it’s visible. Since Supergirl’s dropping June 26, that’s more likely to get a promo that the September-bound Clayface.

As for the non-superhero stuff, Deadline said it’s likely we’ll see ads for Scream 7 (February 27), Disclosure Day (June 12), and Toy Story 5 (June 19). Illumination’s reportedly looking to drop a new promo for Super Mario Galaxy (April 1) along with a first look at Minions 3 (July 1). We’ll see how right Deadline turns out to be throughout the week, including Super Bowl LX on February 8.

  • One Familiar Face Isn’t Back for ‘The Mummy 4’ Yet

Sophie Turner teases her “unashamedly capable” Lara Croft. Destin Daniel Cretton says he wanted to do something different for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Plus, get a look at what’s coming on The Beauty. Spoilers, assemble!

    Primitive War 2

Variety reports a sequel to Primitive War, last year’s film about dinosaurs in the Vietnam War, is already in “late development,” and plans to shoot in Queensland, Australia, later this year. Described as a “darker, more intense escalation” of the previous film that’s somehow also a “more grounded war epic,” the sequel concerns “a new U.S. platoon sent into an increasingly unstable valley, where competing kill zones, rival apex predators and secret Cold War agendas converge. As containment collapses, the mission becomes one of survival—and the cost of failure threatens to extend far beyond the battlefield.”

    Dragon Cursed

Deadline reports Amazon MGM Studios has secured the film rights to Elise Kova’s fantasy novel, Dragon Cursed. “Set in a fantastical world amidst the last human stronghold against dragons in which every teenager must survive brutal trials meant to separate dragon hunters from the dragon cursed,” the story concerns “a young woman [who] enters the trials [while] hiding a deadly secret, placing her in the hands of the dangerous enforcer assigned to watch her.”

    The Mummy 4

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Oded Fehr revealed he has yet to be asked to reprise his role as Ardeth Bay in the upcoming fourth Mummy movie.

I gotta tell you, man, I’m so excited that you’re excited. I have no idea. I haven’t been contacted. I don’t know anything about it. I know that the internet has been saying it as though it exists and it’s a done deal, but haven’t heard anything about it. So I’m hoping it happens. I’m hoping I get to be in it. But there’s nothing I can tell you about it.

I agree. I hope so. I hope that happens. I can tell you that I love The Mummy. It’s made me into a working actor. I love the actors on it. I’ve gotten to see a few of them in the last couple of years, and I hope it happens, but I have not been contacted.

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Elsewhere, director Destin Daniel Cretton told Comic Book he “wanted to do something that felt different” with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie and the eleventh overall since 2002.

All the creatives involved when I came on board wanted to do something that felt different. Of course, it’s still the Spider-Man that everybody loves, but this is a new chapter in his life, and that tonal shift was something that was really exciting to me. It felt really different, and it was an extremely gratifying experience.

    Supergirl/Street Fighter

Jason Momoa also revealed to Comic Book he spent more time in the makeup chair preparing for his role as Lobo in Supergirl than he did as the green-skinned Blanka in Street Fighter.

Oh well, it definitely be Lobo. Yeah…I don’t know…I was covered everywhere.

    The Morrigan

Saffron Burrows plays an archeologist in Ireland who invokes the wrath of the titular pagan war goddess in the trailer for The Morrigan, co-starring Toby Stephens.

    His Monster

Elsewhere, a grieving father believes a monster swept his daughter out to sea in the trailer for His Monster.

    Tomb Raider

In conversation with the Los Angeles Times (via Screen Rant), Sophie Turner stated the new Tomb Raider series shows how “unashamedly capable” Lara Croft is.

It’s about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies. But I really want to show the other side. She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.

    The Beauty

Finally, FX has released a “this season on…” trailer for Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty.

  • The Most Anticipated Movies of 2026

    [ad_1]

2026 is looking to be a top-tier year at the movie theater.

The latest installments in the Dune, Spider-Man and Avengers franchises will be released, while millennial nostalgia will continue at the multiplex with Devil Wears Prada and Practical Magic sequels. And new films from Christopher Nolan and Greta Gerwig will both be gracing Imax screens. (Though not at the same time, so don’t expect a Barbenheimer repeat.)

As for star power, movies with Jacob Elordi, Tom Cruise, Ryan Gosling, Timothée Chalamet, Robert Pattinson and Ariana Grande are on the docket. Zendaya will have a particularly big year with the A24 release The Drama, Nolan’s The Odyssey and the third Dune, plus Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

These are the most anticipated movies (with release dates) heading to theaters in 2026.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Wraps Filming, Director Destin Daniel Cretton Calls It His “Most Rewarding Film”

    [ad_1]

After Tom Holland began filming his latest entry as Peter Parker in August, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially wrapped production.

On Friday, director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that the much anticipated fourth installment in the MCU‘s Spider-Man franchise has completed filming on the upcoming prelude to Avengers: Doomsday, set to premiere July 31 in theaters.

“I’m so deeply grateful for the people who walked with me through the biggest, most rewarding film I’ve ever been a part of,” he wrote on Instagram with photos of himself with Holland and the movie’s cast and crew, thanking his wife and kids for their support.

“To our amazing cast, for breathing so much life into these beloved characters and moving us every day. To our unbelievable crew, who worked tirelessly with unmatched creativity and craftsmanship, who made me laugh so hard my stomach never stopped hurting,” Cretton continued. “I love you all so much and can’t wait for the world to see your stunning work on the big screen. And of course, to @tomholland2013, for your kind, generous leadership on and off screen, for your relentless work ethic, your fearless performances, and for your friendship. That’s a wrap on Spider-Man: Brand New Day!”

Filming began in Scotland in August, although production briefly halted the next month after Holland was treated for a mild concussion, reportedly during a stunt gone wrong, amid production on the Pinewood UK set of the Sony and Marvel Studios movie. The actor was taken to the hospital and examined, but not admitted. No other cast or crew was affected during the incident.

Helmed by Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), producers include Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige returning. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, with Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas also joining the cast in undisclosed roles.

  • Charlie Cox Insists He Won’t Make Another ‘Spider-Man’ Appearance for ‘Brand New Day’

Tatiana Maslany and Tim Heidecker are teaming up for a new dystopian satire series. Matt Duffer says not to expect Eddie Munson back in Stranger Things‘ final season. Plus, Ryan Coogler discusses who he’s really rebooting The X-Files for. Spoilers get!

    The Comedy Hour

Deadline reports Tatiana Maslany and Tim Heidecker are attached to star in The Comedy Hour, a “late-night-themed dystopian satire” from director Colby Day. Set “five minutes into the future when modern America is on the brink of collapse,” the story will see Heidecker as Jimmy, “a late-night talk show host forced to produce his show through famine, fire, and plague. When the network assigns him a robot to be his co-host and help boost ratings, everyone in America loves the robot more than him. Maslany will play Priya, a corporate climber and Jimmy’s long-time producer.”

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day

During his recent appearance on the Phase Hero podcast, Charlie Cox suggested he’s not in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, after all.

I know they all think I’m in Spider-Man because I’m filming something in London, which I’m not, I’m not in Spider-Man.

    It Follows 2

According to Maika Monroe, the script for It Follows 2 is “incredible” and “very different from the original,” and filming could begin next year.

I was sent the script and I thought it was incredible. It’s also very different from the original. I feel like the original, it’s like a little more heightened and dramatic, and this…I think it’s really quite grounded and just sort of follows the story of these two women who are mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was a really interesting take on it.

    Decibel

A “tech-obsessed music producer” forces a struggling singer-songwriter to help her create “the perfect AI music algorithm” in the trailer for Decibel, a sci-fi/horror film coming to Apple TV and Fandango this November 7.

    Gobblefoot

Elsewhere, a “professor of New England folklore” attributes a string of mutilation murders to “a mythical creature, half turkey, half Bigfoot” in the trailer for Gobblefoot

    Stranger Things

Speaking to Empire, Matt Duffer also suggested Joseph Quinn does not return as the late Eddie Munson in season 5, despite recent comments from the actor.

I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead. Joe is so busy, anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.

    The X-Files

Ryan Coogler would “neither confirm nor deny” casting Danielle Deadwyler in his upcoming X-Files reboot, but told Variety that he’s making the reboot for his mom.

Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom. My mom means the world to me—she’s actually here tonight—so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.

    Crystal Lake

Filming has wrapped on Crystal Lake, according to showrunner Brad Caleb Kane on Instagram.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will Link to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

    [ad_1]

If you’re looking forward to Spider-Man: Brand New Dayit might behoove you to first check out what’s going on Daredevil: Born Again’s second season.

Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum teased to Entertainment Weekly there’s “a lot of communication” between the two teams to tie the show and film together. Without spoiling anything, he said Born Again “very much exists in the same world [as Brand New Day], and it is important. “We’re in a shared universe together. The Daredevil and Punisher comic books depict acertain tone and idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man’s. But they both exist in the same universe: everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we’re able to tell different stories.”

Even before the Punisher was confirmed for Brand New Day, fans have long wondered whether Matt Murdock and Peter Parker could ever share the screen again or explicitly reference one another, particularly since Spider-Man is supposed to feature Peter as a street-level hero. That puts him in the crosshairs of Mayor Fisk’s anti-vigilante rules, but maybe don’t expect to see Tom Holland as part of Matt’s resistance on the small screen.

Winderbaum was separately asked about the chances of Iron Fist and Luke Cage appearing in Born Again season two, where he called the season “a little deeper” than its potential guest stars. What he said about Danny and Luke could also apply to Spider-Man: “There are rewards to be had for fans, but it’s really about the stakes of this world that this Kingpin is building in New York City.” How Fisk and Matt’s war affects Peter and his approach to heroing will be seen on July 31, 2026 when Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits the big screen.

Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again returns with season two in 2026.

  • Spider-Man 4 Set Photos Go Viral, Peter Parker Looks Depressed in MCU Movie

    [ad_1]

New Spider-Man: Brand New Day set photos popped up online today, and one specific photo quickly began making the rounds in viral fashion.

What is shown in the Spider-Man 4 set photos?

The new photos saw production taking place just a day after reports surfaced that Tom Holland was injured while on set of the film. The latest photos don’t show off a ton, but a specific look at what is likely a Spider-Man stunt double looking extremely sad began making the rounds online.

The photo hilariously shows the actor wearing the Spider-Man suit looking completely depressed, staring straight down at the ground in a sad pose. Fans were quick to joke, although other photos show the Spider-Man as much more normal. Check them out below:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie will once again be led by Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are also expected to return for the sequel.

They will be joined by cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), Jon Bernthal, and Trammell Tillman, among others. The latter recently played the anti-hero again in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, and Avi Arad.

Spider-Man 4 will be released in United States theaters on July 31, 2026 ahead of Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027) following Doomsday’s delay.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Taps ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ Tombstone Star to Leap Into Live-Action

    [ad_1]

While production is currently paused for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony Pictures is making sure to let us know that the show’s not stopping with even more casting announcements.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse villain Tombstone is making his way to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Deadline reports that Marvin Jones III (Black Lightning) will be reprising the animated role in live-action. Deadline further reports that Jones will purportedly return to voice Tombstone once more in the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, having skipped the middle entry in the trilogy, 2023’s Across the Spider-Verse.

One of many crime bosses in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, Tombstone is usually depicted as an imposing Black person with albinism; he has sharp chompers and granite-like skin that’s hard to cut. The creation, by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, first made his Marvel Comics debut in Web of Spider-Man #36 in March 1988, and has been a staple of Spidey’s criminal underworld ever since.

Given Tombstone’s recent appearance in the Spider-Verse films, there’s no doubt going to be a lot of speculation that Brand New Day could potentially give us the MCU’s own take on Miles. The recent casting of Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) and Trammel Tillman (Severance) also has left fans wondering if the Morales family in some way will be a presence, and of course, Miles’ uncle Aaron already appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming, played by Donald Glover.

Whether or not we see Miles or any other Spidey-sona in Brand New Day, Jones is joining a stacked cast of familiar faces that includes Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Michael Mando returning as Homecoming‘s version of Scorpion.

Despite its current production delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still currently set to release July 31, 2026.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Pauses Production After Tom Holland Injury

    [ad_1]

Tom Holland recently suffered a stunt-related injury, which left the fate of Spider-Man: Brand New Day temporarily hanging in the balance of a web’s thread. And now it’s official: the Destin Daniel Cretton-helmed film will be going on pause, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The move comes as a way to give Holland seven days to recover from the injury while avoiding having to shoot without him. The trade described the injury as “a mild concussion,” and will be giving the franchise’s current Peter Parker a break from his Spider-Man commitments out of an abundance of caution. Holland was still able to attend a charity event on behalf of the Brother’s Trust, an organization the actor runs with his brothers.

While Spider-Man: Brand New Day shoot will be affected for a week, it’s not expected to impact the release of the film. As of now, the Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios feature is still on track to meet its release date. So we will be watching the continuation of a world where no one knows who Peter Parker is, let alone that he’s Spider-Man, come 2026.

Of course, even just under a year away, much of what Brand New Day is about is being kept under wraps. The film will bring back memory-wiped MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) along with an extensive new ensemble of new and familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe players. Jon Bernthal will be featured as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, alongside Avengers mainstay Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Better Call Saul actor Michael Mando will also reprise his role as the Scorpion from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Newcomers to the MCU include Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in a major undisclosed role, and Emmy-winning Severance star Trammell Tillman.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still slated to open in theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • Tom Holland to Return to ‘Spider-Man’ Set Next Week After Injury

    [ad_1]

Tom Holland will be taking a week off from the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day after suffering an injury on set Friday.

Sony execs met on Monday to work out a plan to resume filming and determined the production will shut down for one week rather than attempt to shoot without Holland. It is not expected to impact the film’s July 31, 2026, release date.

As for Holland, his injury was described as a mild concussion, and he is taking a break out of an abundance of caution, insiders say. The actor was able to attend a charity event on Saturday for The Brothers Trust, which he runs with his brothers.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing Brand New Day after working with Marvel Studios on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Wonder Man TV show. Spider-Man regulars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon return as M.J. and Ned, respectively, while Marvel heavy hitters Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk) and Jon Bernthal (the Punisher) are among the cast. They’ll be joined by Stranger Things‘ Sadie Sink and Severance‘s Tramell Tillman, along with Better Call Saul star Michael Mando, reprising his role as villain the Scorpion from 2017’s Homecoming.

Marvel Studios is co-producing the film with Sony, as has with Holland’s three other Spider-Man films. Holland’s trilogy has been lucrative for Sony, with 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home its highest-grossing movie of all time with $1.91 billion. 2019’s Far From Home became the first Spider-Man movie to top $1 billion.

  • Jackie Chan’s Stunt Team Join ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

The new Deathstalker gets a trailer, Bugonia gets a poster, and Lady Gaga joins Wednesday season two—just as another $100 million dollar musical gets an “R” rating. After Folie a Deux, is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride a Xanadu or a Xanadon’t?

    Transformers

Speaking with The Direct, Josh Duhamel revealed he has “not heard” about Michael Bay reportedly returning to direct another installment in the Transformers franchise, but, Duhamel said, he would “love to do it.”

I have not heard that. But yeah, why not? Michael Bay is such a talented dude. I just really, I really, really loved working with him. We did four of those movies. One, I did 1, 2, 3, and 5. I shot up that, you know, I started as like a cadet and ended up like a lieutenant colonel or something. So who knows. Would I be a general at this point? I’ve definitely grayed into the spot. Yeah, I’d love to do it.

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Jackie Chan revealed that his own stunt team was on hand to advise on the action scenes in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Chinese publication HK1 reported(via Games Radar)

I went to London for a meeting and visited the set. My Jackie Chan Stunt Team was busy filming Spider-Man, and I was the action director for the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. I went to watch their rehearsals, and the director was so excited when he saw me.

    The Descent

Director Neil Marshall revealed in a recent interview with Metro that he has an idea for a prequel to The Descent that would somehow “wrap up” the story.

I can definitely see it happening […] It’s something I think would be good to wrap up the story. So many other franchises have been exploited over the years, but nothing has really happened with The Descent.

I’ve got a few ideas. The trend seems to be prequels. I was always interested in finding out what happened to the miners who went down with the cave first.

    The Bride!

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s $100 million Frankenstein musical, The Bride!, has been rated “R” for “strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity and language.”
