A 37-year-old man has been sentenced for killing two men in the September 2024 shootings near a south Minneapolis homeless encampment, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Joshua Jones of Bemidji was given a 35-year sentence by a judge for two counts of intentional second-degree murder. At least two-thirds of that sentence will be spent in prison. According to the attorney’s office, Jones pleaded guilty to the charges in July.

Robert Milton Brown, 39, and Roland Scott Littleowl, 20, were killed in the Sept. 18, 2024, shooting spree. Littleowl was killed in an alleyway on the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South around 4:40 a.m., police said, and another person was seriously injured. Brown died nearly 12 hours later after a shooting on the 2500 block of Bloomington Avenue.

Police said a man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in a third shooting on the 2300 block of 17th Avenue South around 7:20 p.m. Jones was arrested shortly after.

Court records show charges brought against Jones in the third shooting were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

“While nothing will bring Mr. Brown or Mr. Littleowl back to their loved ones, this lengthy sentence will ensure that Mr. Jones cannot harm anyone else,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a written statement on Friday.

  • Man and woman charged in south Minneapolis mass shooting at Clinton Avenue intersection

    [ad_1]

A man and a woman have been charged with aiding an offender in the south Minneapolis mass shooting on Tuesday that killed one person and injured six others, court records show.

Tiffany Martindale, 30, and Ryan Quinn, 33, were both charged in Hennepin County court on Friday.

The shooting happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the area of 29th Avenue South and Clinton Avenue South. Responding officers found one man fatally wounded and six others with gunshot wounds of “varying severity,” charges said.

Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a gray Honda Civic with no rear license plate after looking at dashcam footage provided by a witness, according to the criminal complaint. Officers were able to make out the front license plate of the vehicle and learned it was registered to Quinn.

Police went to the Inver Grove Heights address listed on the registration shortly after the shooting and saw the Honda with the rear license plate reattached. Charges said Quinn was driving, and Martindale was in the front seat.

Quinn told officers that he and Martindale had picked up a man, known to him as Bino, and driven him around the metro area, according to charges. He said Bino directed him to the area of the shooting, where they then “circled the block.” As they passed the area a second time, Bino told Quinn to stop the car.

Bino then got out of the car wearing a mask and holding a rifle, and started shooting into a crowd standing on the sidewalk, charges said. Bino got back into the Honda after shooting multiple rounds, which struck the seven people. Quinn and Martindale then dropped Bino off in north Minneapolis.

Investigators say there were numerous calls between Martindale and Bino during the day of the shooting. Charges said Bino also provided Martindale with the address of a McDonald’s on Lake Street, around two blocks from the area of the shooting.

If convicted, Quinn and Martindale each face up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000.

    [ad_1]

Police responded to an active shooter incident at a Catholic school in south Minneapolis on Wednesday, with sources confirming there are multiple victims and that the shooter is now dead.

Crews at the scene reported seeing a large number of ambulances, according to CBS. Sources told ABC News that there are multiple victims from a shooting that took place during morning drop-off at Annunciation Catholic school in Minneapolis.

The city of Minneapolis’s official X account said there is “no active threat to the community at this time” as of 10:29am EST.

“The shooter is contained. Stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel to help victims – W. 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet Ave,” the city wrote.

The suspect is reportedly dead, according to Fox 9. The outlet also reported that the first call to law enforcement went through at 8.27am local time, shortly after a mass for students was slated to kick off at 8.15am.

The police department from Richfield, a suburb that borders Minneapolis, told Fox 9 there were 20 victims. It was unclear how many, if any, were dead.

“A man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported at the scene,” the Richfield police department said.

Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz, said he’d been “briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic school” on Wednesday morning and would “continue to provide updates as we get more information”.

“The [Bureau of Criminal Apprehension] and State Patrol are on scene. I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence,” he wrote on X.

Minneapolis’s mayor, Jacob Frey, said he is “monitoring reports of horrific violence in south Minneapolis” and the “emergency response team has been activated”. Frey was also at the scene at around 10:15am EST.

The US secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, said on X that the Department of Homeland Security is monitoring the shooting.

“We are in communication with our interagency partners, and will share more information as soon as it becomes available. I am praying for the victims of this heinous attack and their families,” Noem said.

Donald Trump also said on Truth Social on Wednesday morning that he’s been “fully briefed on the tragic shooting” and that the “White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!”

The Hennepin county sheriff’s office said in a statement that it was “actively assisting the Minneapolis Police Department and other law enforcement agencies” and urged “all residents to stay out of the affected area to allow emergency responders to operate effectively”.

“This is an evolving situation and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this act of violence,” it said.

Wednesday’s incident marks the fourth shooting in 24 hours in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Over the course of Tuesday into Wednesday, three people were shot and killed in three separate shootings. At least eight people also suffered gunshot wounds in those incidents.
