  • The First ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Dolls Are Here—But There’s a Huge Catch

    The KPop Demon Hunters dolls from Mattel have been revealed in detail. But don’t get too excited: they won’t arrive until next fall, and there’s another pricey catch attached.

    Pre-orders for Mattel Creations’ KPop Demon Hunters dolls begin November 12. If you snag a pre-order with holiday gift-giving in mind, you’ll have to print out an IOU and stick it in a Christmas stocking, because the dolls are estimated to arrive “by October 2026,” according to Mattel.

    At least they will be out before the recently announced sequel, but whoa, that’s still a long time to wait.

    Did we mention that, at least for this initial Mattel run, the dolls will only come as a package deal? You can’t just buy one Huntr/x member; you have to get the full set of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—and the “What It Sounds Like” three-pack will set you back $150.

    The details on Zoey, Rumi, and Mira are gorgeous. Their “What It Sounds Like” outfits look just like in the film, and it’s so cool to see Rumi’s demon marks prominently displayed across her design. But we have to admit, they look too fancy to play with, and that’s common with the Mattel Creations drops, which explains the sticker price.

    If you’re apprehensive about committing to all three, there will be more toy drops, including more accessible options, also coming in 2026.  And we’re hoping, of course, for Huntr/x dolls in the “How It’s Done” outfits and ones that sing “Golden” too.

    With the sequel officially in the works, fingers crossed that Netflix and toy makers are ready to seal the Honmoon with an avalanche of KPop Demon Hunters merch before it’s released. Take a look at the “What It Sounds Like” dolls from the Mattel Creations set below!

  • Genndy Tartakovsky Won’t Give Up on Getting ‘Black Knight’ Made

    Last weekend, Genndy Tartakovsky released test footage for Black Knight, his latest project that he’s trying to get made. Now, he’s pledged to continue what he can to get eyes on it until Sony greenlights full production.

    In a recent Polygon interview, the longtime animator said he’ll reveal new material for the film “every week until it gets made.” The test reel’s had a “great” reception, especially over in Latin America, further spurring his efforts to get Black Knight on the big screen. Also fueling him is the success of Sony’s own KPop Demon Hunters and the Spider-Verse movies, which have gained acclaim and attention for sporting bolder animation styles than the general norm found in Disney and Illumination movies, in addition to Demon Slayer.

    Recalling Sony’s worries about Knight finding an audience, Tartakovsky called the film “part of Spider-Verse [and] part of anime. [Sony] asked where or who the audience is, and it’s like…what do you mean? […] How long am I just going to sit there and have all these projects come out? Because mine is original, it’s not getting made. So I thought I would just put it out there.”

    More than anything, Tartakovsky thinks Black Knight could help show animation can be for more audiences than just kids. After years of working with Sony on the Hotel Transylvania films, he was set up to direct two original films for the studio, and this is one he wants to see through to the end.

  • ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Has Somehow Reached Yet Another Milestone

    The hype for KPop Demon Hunters only grows as its summer success blazes a trail into the fall and fans clamor for more.

    The Sony Pictures Animation feature, which Netflix acquired for the platform, has hit another first, as it has moved into the top spot on Nielsen’s overall top 10 streaming chart, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The numbers don’t lie and if the rush to get out merch and costumes is any indication, the Netflix animated hit is truly this generation’s Frozen. “Golden” and “Soda Pop” are on constant rotation in my and my friends’ social media posts, at least so I can attest to that.

    The Nielsen streaming charts are dominated by Netflix projects—including Wednesday season two, which previously held the overall top spot and had a lot of anticipation built around its return. But it’s truly powerful to note that Mira, Rumi, and Zoey join Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as the streamer’s most popular heroines. Demon boys and Hydes beware!

    KPop Demon Hunters was released August 23, and it took over the number one spot in the last week of August. Its highest weekly viewing total sits at 1.12 billion minutes in the United States, easily beating out other mainstays such as Bluey and SpongeBob SquarePants.

    This milestone also marks KPop Demon Hunters’ 11th week appearing in the Nielsen charts, topping its own record for original streaming film that it set the week prior.

    As the holidays and award season start to kick up, fans really only have the movie to go to until retailers roll out more offerings for the surefire franchise hit in the making. You know there’s already clamoring for Halloween party screenings, New York Comic Con cosplay, and holiday fun that will see more Huntr/x and Saja Boys love, so these numbers are sure to continue to keep going up, up, up. It’s their moment.
