  • Opinion | The Global Intifada Has Arrived in England

    [ad_1]

    London

It was Yom Kippur when Jihad al-Shamie, a Syrian-born British citizen, attacked a synagogue in Manchester. According to the Guardian, al-Shamie was out on bail for an alleged rape and is believed to have a previous criminal history. Two Jews, Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were killed before police shot al-Shamie dead. Three other people are in serious condition. Al-Shamie’s method, car-ramming and a knife, is frequently used by Palestinian terrorists against Israelis. As the left-Islamist mobs say, β€œGlobalize the intifada.”

  • British Jews Say U.K. Terrorist Attack Was Just a Matter of Time

    [ad_1]

LONDONβ€”For many British Jews, Thursday’s terrorist attack that killed two people at a synagogue and seriously wounded a number of others was a question of when, not if.

Since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas on Israel and the start of the war in Gaza, growing numbers of British Jews say they feel increasingly isolated and unsafe in a country that had been a relative haven for Jews in Europe in recent decades.Β

  • Mayor announces another business shuttered and creation of Human Trafficking Task Force

    [ad_1]

METHUEN β€” The city has followed up a β€œdeclaration of war” against human trafficking with the investigation of another business and the creation of a task force.

On Monday, city inspectors shut down Eastern Bodywork Therapy, which officials allege is a front for human trafficking. Mayor D.J. Beauregard, who had announced the crackdown on Sunday, said in a press release that the task force would hold both the perpetrators and landlords accountable.

  • AGs sue over threats to pull sex ed funding

    [ad_1]

BOSTON β€” Massachusetts is among a group of states suing the Trump administration over threats to pull federal sexual education funding from curricula focusing on gender identities.

The lawsuit, filed Friday in the U.S. District Court in Oregon by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell and 16 other Democrats, alleges that new conditions imposed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to receive the grant funding violate federal law, the separation of powers and Congress’ spending power.

  • Kenya Uses U.S.-Funded Antiterrorism Courts for Political Crackdown

    [ad_1]

NAIROBI, Kenyaβ€”The Kenyan government is using special antiterrorism courtsβ€”established with U.S. money to combat al Qaedaβ€”to threaten political dissidents with decades in prison.

  • Methuen officials tame rumors of school redistricting

    [ad_1]

METHUEN β€” It has been more than 25 years since the city’s public school system chose to redistrict neighborhood schools. And, according to officials, it is likely to be at least a few more.

While school redistricting has been mentioned during recent City Council meetings and a school subcommittee exists to study it, school leaders sought to quell rumors of impending change while also discussing some of the potential benefits, like cost savings on busing, during a meeting last week.

  • Report: State education officials failed to investigate child abuse claims

    [ad_1]

BOSTON β€” A β€œbreakdown” in communication between two state agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the release of information about allegations of child abuse and neglect by licensed educators and others, putting students at risk, according to a new state audit.

The review by state Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s office, released last Tuesday, faulted the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for a β€œfailure” to ensure it received up-to-date information from the Department of Children and Families on whether alleged child abuse or neglect against licensed educators warranted investigation or disciplinary actions.

  • Lawmakers seek criminal penalties for impersonating ICE agents

    [ad_1]

BOSTON β€” A bipartisan group of lawmakers are hoping to close a β€œloophole” in state law that allows people who impersonate ICE agents and other federal authorities to shake down immigrants or sexually assault women to go without punishment.

The proposal, filed by state Sen. Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, Rep. Anne Margaret Ferranate, D-Gloucester, and others would make it a crime to impersonate a federal law enforcement official. Under current law, criminal charges can only be filed against someone accused of impersonating a state or local law-enforcement official.

  • Peabody anti-bullying task force plans to take multilayered approach to student support

    [ad_1]
