    After building a career themed around heavy marijuana consumption, Snoop Dogg says he’s “decided to give up smoke.”

    On Thursday, the 52-year-old rap mogul surprised his fans when he seemingly said he’s officially ditching his rolling papers and lighter.

    Snoop Dogg posted a sombre-looking black and white photo of himself to Instagram with a simple statement.

    “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke,” he wrote. “Please respect my privacy at this time.”

    The Gin and Juice rapper even signed the statement with his signature.

    Understandably, the announcement came as a shock to anyone with even a slight awareness of Snoop Dogg, who has long branded himself as an unofficial 420 ambassador. Snoop Dogg, who for decades has been known to chain-smoke joints, even once claimed to have lit up inside the White House after hiding a pre-roll in his sock.

    In the comments of his post, many of Snoop Dogg’s followers — including MMA fighter Conor McGregor — congratulated him on the decision to stop smoking. Others wondered if Snoop Dogg was joking or using the statement as a form of social media marketing for a potential upcoming project.

    Hours after his statement, Snoop Dogg doubled down on his claim with another post. Alongside an equally sombre selfie, Snoop Dogg wrote a simple message: “Respect my privacy.”

    Again, the post was met with equal parts encouragement and skepticism. Some of the rapper’s fans said their bucket-list dreams to smoke weed with Snoop Dogg have been dashed by the news.

    Many others wondered what would happen to Snoop Dogg’s full-time blunt roller, who was reportedly paid between US$40,000 (nearly C$55,000) and $50,000 (about $C68,700) a year, on top of other perks like free trips and smoking with the rap legend himself.

    Until this week, Snoop Dogg was ubiquitous with marijuana. Throughout his decades-long career, the rapper has released music, apparel, cookbooks and other merchandise themed around the plant. In 2015, he even launched his own lifestyle website, Merry Jane, where he sold Leafs by Snoop, an eight-strain line of marijuana flower handpicked by the connoisseur himself.

    Just this week, Snoop Dogg even launched a limited-edition ‘Best Buds’ handbag with his TV co-host Martha Stewart. The crossbody bag includes a functional BIC lighter securely in the latch to prevent “unwanted borrowing.”

    Frequent cannabis users can develop long-term negative health effects as a result of the drug, recent research has shown. According to the government of Canada, these effects can include worsened memory and concentration, a chronic cough and an increased risk of addiction.

    Snoop Dogg has announced on social media that he is giving up his most well-known vice.

    “I’m giving up smoke,” Snoop Dogg wrote on X and Instagram. “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.”

    No reason was given for the abrupt decision, nor was it specified if the noted cannabis enthusiast is passing strictly on the cannabis puff-puff.

    Some speculated that the 52-year-old Snoop may switch to cannabis edibles to preserve his lungs.

    Snoop and cannabis have long been linked during his career, starting with his guest appearances on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album, “The Chronic.”

    Like tobacco smoke, marijuana smoke irritates the lungs. It also contains levels of volatile chemicals and tar that are similar to tobacco smoke, raising concerns about risk for cancer and lung disease for heavy users.

    If there is one thing you can count on it is change.  But is it the end of marijuana era?  Today on X (formerly known as Twitter), Snoop Dogg announced he was giving up smoke.  The assumption is he is giving up all marijuana use. He asked to be allowed privacy for him and his family during this time.

    Snoop has been iconic for the cannabis industry, and one that has reached into a younger audience as mainstream consumers have increased with legalization. One of his most notable ventures was his partnership with Martha Stewart – it benefited them both and gave the general public a glimpse of marijuana life which was fun and palatable.

    Also this week, Snoop Dogg and his son Cordell Broadus announced the video game scene is about to have another company added to its roster.  Their new company, Death Row Games, aims to help diverse creators publish content on Epic Games’ online game “Fortnite” via its Fortnite Creative tool set and the editing app Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The company, Broadus said, will likely be based in Los Angeles.

    It has been some week, launching a company with his son and losing something which has been iconic with his personality.  Snoop Dogg has been the subject of memes, videos and references about the cannabis industry.  It is the end of a marijuana era.

    Aside from his promotions and appareances which rake in revenue, he also owns a brand. Leafs By Snoop is a cannabis brand owned and produced by Canopy Growth Corporation.

    In 2008, he told the story to Esquire, saying, “The first time I got high off marijuana was in the ’70s, with one of my uncles. They had these little roaches on the table — these part-way-smoked marijuana cigarettes — and there was some Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull. I went in there and sipped the Schlitz, and my uncle asked me did I wanna hit that roach. And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He put it on the roach clip for me and lit it up, and I hit that motherf*cker. I was about eight or nine years old.”

    It seems you can still get the Schlitz, but not toke with the Dogg.

    Capitalism Goes Ultra Cringe With Just Eat’s Menulog Commercial Starring Christina Aguilera and Latto

    For a moment there, it seemed as though everyone was quite quick to bill Christina Aguilera as the “classier” of the two 00s icons of pop stardom, with Britney Spears long ago billed as an “inbred swamp thing” (namely, in a 2007 Rolling Stone cover story). But now, all that “good faith” has officially gone to pot. An appropriate food-related idiom in this case as Aguilera has taken to shilling for Just Eat’s recently-acquired Australian outfit, Menulog. And, although she’s not alone in the endeavor (joined by Latto on rap vocals), something about her stooping to this level is more unexpected than it is from Latto. Some will probably read that as having racist undertones, but no, it’s more about the fact that rapping women of Latto’s generation, including Cardi B (who has plugged everything from Pepsi to Balenciaga) and Ice Spice (currently shilling for Dunkin’ Donuts), have never known an existence in which debasing oneself for money via over-the-top advertising endorsements wasn’t the norm. 

    To be sure, this has been happening since brands and celebrities long ago unearthed the financial possibilities of their collaborative partnerships but it seemed that, once upon a time, there was a touch more tact to these “synergies.” Even in Aguilera’s “heyday,” circa 1999 to 2006, there was a less schlock-y feel than what she’s just put out into the world with Latto. This could, in part, have to do with print ads being more viable back then, allowing celebrities to say more by saying nothing at all. Just sporting the wares. Of course, in Menulog’s instance, food can’t exactly be sported (unless we’re talking that quintessential scene from Varsity Blues). And so, instead, Aguilera and Latto opt to sing passionately about the many possibilities of the app when it comes to ordering food. 

    Not least of which includes, per Latto’s rap, “Oh you thought it was just burgers and fries?/They got more flavors than you tasted or you heard in your life.” Already, with the implication that flavors can be “heard,” it’s clear that “sensicality” isn’t exactly what matters. Not in this commercial, and certainly not in life. After all, if life made sense, those with greater privilege wouldn’t abuse those given little other choice but to do a job so abusive and low-paying (especially considering said abuse) as delivering slop for Menulog. 

    Aguilera is no stranger to the advertising game, of course. In 2003, she followed in Spears’ footsteps by promoting Skechers in a series of print ads (this after Spears had parted ways with Skechers, effectively making Christina Aguilera “sloppy seconds”). Then there have been her more recent ventures, including becoming a spokesperson for Playground (a sexual wellness brand) and Merz Aesthetics. The latter company had Aguilera focusing on the promotion of Xeomin, an injectable intended to reduce between-the-eyebrow-centered frown lines. Ironically, the campaign was called “Beauty On Your Terms.” Of course, if beauty were on anyone’s terms except the patriarchy’s, women wouldn’t be worrying so goddamn much about frown lines, and, in effect, might actually not have as many to try to hide.

    At present, Aguilera appears to want to assure that people can “just eat” on their own terms as well. Even if Latto is doing most of the heavy lifting on the lyrical delivery, further assuring viewers, “Ooh, this is what the app do/It ain’t only fast food/Switchin’ styles like opera to rap tunes.” As for that mention of “opera,” this is where both Aguilera and the setting of the commercial itself come in. Presenting a world of “opulence” as both Latto and Aguilera appear in a Versailles-type palace wearing Marie Antoinette-inspired gowns. Because, evidently, when you order from Menulog, it makes you feel like a queen. Or such is the intended seduction of this capitalistic endeavor. One in which even food has to be weaponized as a “status symbol.” 

    That said, in every scenario where status is involved, someone has to play the part of “lowly servant” in order to make the bourgeoisie feel like they’re in their “higher echelon.” So it is that, whether realizing it or not, the creative team behind the commercial, directed by Dave Meyers, has effectively pitted the haves and have-nots against each other by featuring orange uniform-wearing (perhaps an unwitting nod to how work feels like a prison) delivery folk dancing around Latto and Aguilera, ultimately in a servile position (which includes pushing Latto in a cart). The previous celebrity commercials for Just Eat’s “Did Somebody Say” (featuring Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry, respectively), predicated on the same concept, didn’t parade servility quite so overtly, but when a baroque premise is involved, perhaps it’s more difficult to mask the fact that some people are eating and some people are just hustling to get this bread.   

    Especially now that delivery has expanded into the grocery store market, which Latto is sure to call out in the lyrics, “And it ain’t only restaurants anymore/We can go bananas at the grocery store.” Even Australian grocery stores, as Menulog is the Just Eat-owned brand being pushed here. And maybe some part of Aguilera agreed to sign on in the hope that the U.S. wouldn’t bother with watching the widely-available ad (such is the curse of the internet rendering all content as viewable to anyone, no matter what country an ad is really being catered to). Latto doesn’t appear to have any sense of shame about doing what needs to be done to collect her paycheck as she continues to do most of the work while Aguilera “ehs” and “ahs” bombastically in the background. However, for most of the “song,” it feels like a solo effort, with Latto also adding, “I’m a bad girl, but my takeout badder/What you need dude? I could cop a taco platter/Thai rice, sticky-icky/Gyoza on the side, fried right ‘cause we kind picky.” As the scene then cuts to the Marie Antoinette-attired duo riding in a gondola through a stream bedecked on either side with fountains, Latto continues, “Breakfast or lunch, hon/Dinner or brunch/Wanna find the finest dining?/I got a hunch.” 

    We’re then taken back to the interior just after Aguilera softly sings, “And some hot tall dude’s bringing buns to the ballroom.” Heavy-handed sexual innuendo aside, this line also verbally calls out the visuals of servility we’ve seen already. Making it worse still as the rich fetishize the working class as something to be ogled while they work. Ergo, Latto building on that lyric right after by saying, “Got me a strong coffee/Let’s get it on, papi.” Unfortunately, for as harmlessly cracked-out as they thought the lyrics might be (including, “Ice cream with my magazine, who can stop me?”), it only ends up highlighting the chasm between those who work for Just Eat/Menulog and those who order from it. Never mind the fact that those who order from the app are laboring under the false illusion of “luxury” anyway, what with a large portion of restaurants that Just Eat peddles on their website not exactly being fully up to the most hygienic of standards. So there’s that for sticking it to the bourgeoisie, essentially paying to having it “stuck” to them. 

    As for the seeming “randomness” of tapping Aguilera and Latto for this ad, the entire concept of wielding celebrities to promote Just Eat also speaks to the blueprint of what Bonnie Fuller (the former editor-in-chief of Us Weekly) came up with via the magazine segment known as “Stars: They’re Just Like Us.” In the end, the hoi polloi wants to be reassured, despite all evidence to the contrary, that they’re not the only ones “relegated” to using something as middle-class as Just Eat. And the trick seems to have worked, with positive feedback in the comments section touting, “We want an extended single version of this! Christina sounds incredible and Latto is fire” and “This NEEDS to be a single!!!!”

    Does it though? Because it’s rather superfluous to try to pass of the ad as anything other than another cringeworthy hurrah for capitalism (and its place within the celebrity-industrial complex). Aguilera didn’t get that message at all. For, soon after the commercial aired, she took to her Instagram to post a behind-the-scenes video of her and Latto on set, choosing “Can’t Hold Us Down” featuring Lil’ Kim to soundtrack it. Apart from the slightly racist implications of selecting one of her only songs featuring a Black woman to play up working with another female rapper in the present, Aguilera further insulted people’s intelligence by captioning it, “This is for the girls” (a nod to the chorus of “Can’t Hold Us Down”). Like, really, Xtina? Is a commercial about food delivery “for the girls”? Is this the best the feminist movement can do? Level the playing field for women to be as obsessed with “filling their bag” as men? If that’s the case, might as well get back in the kitchen. No need for ordering delivery then.

    Wax Motif and Camden Cox’s new single “In My Hands” is a perfect representation of house music blending with strong vocals, creating a track that people both enjoy listening to…and want to hear again.

We didn’t really have an idea to start with so we started from scratch. Thought it would be cool to do something pretty dark beat-wise which could make a cool contrast to Camden’s vocals. We finished most of it off that day and I dropped it in my sets a few days later to a really good response. Some final tweaks and here we are with the end result.”

    After releasing a meteoric debut album full of house hits, House of Wax, fans have been waiting to hear what comes next.     We spoke with Wax Motif on how he’s developed his sound to create “In My Hands”, and what’s next below!

    PD: Your 2022 debut album, House Of Wax, showed your skills at blending a bunch of different genres together. What kind of music and artists influenced you when starting your career?

    It’s a pretty mixed bag but the most influential were probably Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Artful Dodger and a lot of rap like Notorious BIG, 50 Cent / G-Unit, Dr Dre & Snoop, Three 6 Mafia & Lil Wayne

    PD: You’ve been performing a record-setting amount of sold-out shows, which is a testament to your fanbase and talent. Can you tell us what fans can expect from your live performances such as your upcoming Shrine show in Los Angeles?

    I usually try to change up my sets a lot (especially in LA) cos I know I have fans that will come to multiple shows. The core of my set is comprised of my own music and the favorites from my discography that people want to hear and outside of that I try to sprinkle in new music I think is interesting, forward thinking or will resonate with my crowd.

    PD: Your latest single, “In My Hands” with Camden Cox, is out now! It’s debuting a new sound for you…how has your production style evolved since last year?

    I’d say it’s always evolving but lately I’m into darker, harder, faster stuff. I think the best part about producing is constantly doing and trying new things and I also get bored pretty easily which is probably why I never rinsed and repeated a previous sound. In the studio I’m usually on the hunt for sounds and ideas that keep me locked in and I try to not overthink the direction too much. Once I’ve finished a song it goes into either the “maybe” folder or the “for someone else” folder.

    PD: It’s also signaling more collaborations to come. Who would you love to collaborate with most?

    That list is long! For vocalists probably Weeknd, Drake, Lil Wayne, Alina Baraz, Ellie Goulding & more with Camden. Electronic producer wise probably Skrillex, Rufus Du Sol, Tchami, MK & Camelphat.

    PD: You performed the song two days after creating it at EDC Las Vegas’ writing camp. Can you tell us about that experience and were you nervous at all to show it off so quickly?

    No, I wasn’t nervous at all. It is usually how I test most of my unreleased music and the good part about DJing is if something is tanking you can get out of it pretty quickly. If I’m keen to test it out it’s usually a good sign too.

    PD: You’re very into fashion. How do you incorporate that into your music career and what’s one piece of advice you can give to readers?

    I didn’t grow up with a lot of luxuries so in school I was always looking at kids with new Nikes or whatever. It kinda just led to me wanting my own cool stuff when I could afford it. I guess it’s not really a conscious thing to incorporate it into music but I definitely subscribe to the mentality of “looking good equals feeling good”. Advise wise I’d definitely say “save your money” cos music careers come and go quickly but at a certain point you need to start enjoying yourself too so treat yourself once in a while.

    PD: What’s up next for you this year?

    We’re about to finish up the US tour which has been awesome & then finishing the year traveling with some shows in Colombia, The Bahamas, Mexico, Vegas for F1 weekend and Aspen as well as hopefully a lot more studio time.

    It’s been a long time since Snoop Dogg (born Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr.) was known solely as a musician. The polymath has his hands in a cannabis-focused VC firm, a breakfast cereal brand, a pet products company, and many other ventures. But not everything the icon touches turns to gold (despite news reports to the contrary), as after announcing a coffee company to great fanfare in March, he reportedly departed his brainchild just a few months later.

    Even in the hyperbolic world of food brand press releases, the one for INDOxyz stood out. The company, which Broadus co-founded with Indonesian coffee entrepreneur Michael Riady, was “going to change the industry, I can promise you that,” Snoop said in the announcement. How that would happen was not explained, as the business seemed similar to other coffee companies. Beans would be harvested from farms in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi then roasted and packaged in L.A., via Riady’s Tentera Surf and Coffee Roasters, Daily Coffee News reported at the time.

    Despite this fairly unremarkable model, the brand—which at present offers a canned cold brew ($5.99) and a dark roast bean ($17.99), as well as a logoed trucker hat, sweatsuit, and hoodie—secured distribution via retailers such as Albertsons, BevMo, Erewhon, and Safeway, Food and Wine reported in March

    But since then, we haven’t heard much from Snoop about INDOxyz, nor has the industry changed as a result of its launch. Perhaps that’s because Snoop left the company he co-founded with Riady just a few months after it started, Page Six reports.

    The company, which per an SEC filing had raised $5,399,480 prior to its launch (Christina Milian and Coco Vinny are listed as “additional founders,” among others), “was kaput just after two months,” Page Six reports, citing an unnamed “insider.” 

    “Snoop and his team left the company, dropping all ownership and stake in the company” after a 16-day investigation into the company’s management, the source told Page Six. “They did not offer a reason.”

    Raidy is the grandson of billionaire magnate Mochtar Riady, the Jakarta Globe notes, and the founder of real estate conglomerate the Lippo Group. The businessman, who is now 94, “has given me a lot of inspiration and knowledge about business,” Raidy told Shoutout LA in 2020. “Every breakfast, lunch and dinner discussion is about business,” Raidy said. “We never talk about holidays or sports.”

    Snoop, meanwhile, once told Vanity Fair that his favorite occupation is “football coach” and that his most marked characteristic is “smoking weed.” Perhaps those contrasting interests were the cause of his departure from INDOxyz—or with so many other irons in the fire, perhaps it just made good business sense to drop this foray into the jam-packed and competitive coffee market like it was hot.

    Snoop Dogg is thanking the munchies for providing inspiration for his new ice cream brand.

    The rapper rolled out the seven flavors in his Dr. Bombay Ice Cream line with consumer packaged goods company Happi Co. on Monday, according to a press release.

    Snoop Dogg — whose past ventures include cold brew, pet fashion, cereal and cannabis productstold TMZ that the munchies “most definitely” were the inspiration for the ice cream.

    “I draw my inspiration from me as a person and I like to share it to the world,” he added.

    The ice cream’s flavors include Bonus Track Brownie, Cocoa Cream Cookie Dream, Iced Out Orange Cream, Rollin’ In the Dough, S’more Vibes, Syrupy Waffle Sundaze and Tropical Sherbet Swizzle.

    “I was buying two or three different kinds of ice cream, mixing ’em up, mixing and matching, and I was like, ‘Maybe I should make my own where I don’t have to buy two different brands and get the flavor that I’m looking for,’” he told TMZ. “So it just came to me: Let’s create something that’s tasteful and flavorful at the same time.”

    The name for the rapper’s ice cream line stems from one of his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs, a collection that reportedly saw one Justin Bieber-owned NFT that previously sold for $1.3 million drop to under $60,000 in value in less than two years.

    The developer of the Bored Ape NFTs, Yuga Labs, reportedly became the subject of a Securities and Exchange Commission probe last year. Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., was also named in a class-action lawsuit that claims he was part of “a scheme to artificially inflate the price of Bored Apes with inauthentic celebrity hype,” CNN reported.

    Snoop Dogg did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.

    The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers announced Tuesday that it would be presenting artist and producer Dr. Dre with its first-ever Hip-Hop Icon Award. The award honors “ASCAP members whose musical contributions have made an indelible impact on the art and culture of hip-hop,” the music licensing group said in a statement.

    Dr. Dre will be presented with the honor at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards Celebration of 50 Years of Hip-Hop in Los Angeles on Thursday.

    “Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking early work laid a foundation for hip-hop as we know it today. As a champion for some of today’s biggest artists and a successful entrepreneur, he changed the culture around hip-hop,” said ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams.

    Dr. Dre is an eight-time Grammy Award-winning producer and musician, as well as the founder and CEO of record label Aftermath Entertainment and electronics giant Beats Electronics. He also founded Death Row Records, a favorite of West Coast hip-hop legends such as Tupac, MC Hammer and Snoop Dogg, who were on the label’s roster in the 90s. 

    Dr. Dre also founded the American hip-hop group N.W.A. in Compton, California, in 1987, but his solo career began five years later with his first album, “The Chronic” — which is now certified triple platinum.

    Dr. Dre’s production is widely credited with having launched the music careers of hip-hop legends such as 50 Cent, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, among others.

    OTTAWA — Snoop Dogg has welcomed Canada’s First Nations into his bid to buy the NHL’s Ottawa Senators with open arms.

    The rapper is part of a group spearheaded by Los Angeles-based businessman Neko Sparks trying to buy the NHL franchise. Snoop Dogg posted a video to Instagram on Monday where he alluded to reports that the Sparks-led bid would include an equity stake for local Indigenous communities.

    “It’s your boy big Snoop Dogg giving a shout out to the First Nations of Canada, that’s right, for joining Neko Sparks in the Ottawa Senators bid,” he said, standing in a recording studio wearing a Senators jersey. “We trying to do something, we trying to make a difference.”

    The board of directors of Senators Sports & Entertainment initiated the process to sell the team last November after the death of owner Eugene Melnyk earlier that year. Melnyk left the franchise to his daughters, Anna and Olivia.

    Another bid includes Canadian R&B singer The Weeknd, who according to media reports has agreed to be a partner in a bid led by Toronto billionaires Jeffrey and Michael Kimel.

    A recent valuation by Forbes listed the Senators at US$800 million, 24th out of the NHL’s 30 teams.

    Monday was the deadline for bids to be submitted to New York-based banker Galatioto Sports Partners, which is handling the sale for the Melnyk family. The Ottawa Sun reports that four groups submitted bids and one of those was at the $1 billion mark.

    Snoop Dogg, a longtime hockey fan, has said he would use his stake in the Senators to help grow the sport in the United States, especially among Black children.

    “I mean it’s official like a referee with a whistle,” said Snoop in Monday’s video. “We all together we try to make it better. We just need y’all to hit the lever and give us control.”

    Faze Clan, which as recently as last year seemed an unstoppable cultural force for the genre of dudes who both play video games and aspire to own lambos, is in trouble. As we’ve reported, the clan’s decision to go public has been a disaster, with their shares now practically worthless, but as bad as things were last month, this week they’re getting worse.

    Last year Faze’s star seemed to be shining brightest when Snoop Dogg walked onto the stage during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show wearing the clan’s gold chain around his neck. The veteran rapper had been convinced to lend his name to Faze’s marketing efforts after they offered him a spot on their company’s board of directors, $1.9 million in stock and then a further $248,000 in shares to his son and “companies controlled by his spouse and his manager”.

    Now, with Faze “effectively a penny stock”, things are looking bleaker. With those shares now worthless, Snoop Dogg has left the company, an SEC filing made earlier today revealed. As Dexerto report he resigned, “effectively immediately”, on March 29.

    Snoop’s departure isn’t just a PR hit, it also presents some logistical challenges for Faze’s marketing, who in addition to having to deal with losses of over $50 million for the year now have to scale back their social media boasts as well. As this excellent Forbes piece from 2022 recalls, one of Faze’s chief marketing strategies has been to combine the social media follower count of all their members—and celebrity signings—into a single figure. Last year, for example, they claimed a “total reach” of 526 million people, but almost 200 million of that number came from celebrity signings like Snoop, whose 20.9 million Twitter followers, 80.1 million Instagram followers and 26 million TikTok subscribers will now have to be removed from Faze’s calculations (which were inflated anyway, since they count total subs/followers, not allowing for one person to follow them across multiple platforms).

    At time of publication Snoop, and his extensive social media following, was still listed as a member of Faze clan on the group’s website.

    NEW YORK (AP) — Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Sade, Jeff Lynne, Glen Ballard, Teddy Riley and Liz Rose have been chosen to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a class that includes the writers of such varied hits as “Man In the Mirror,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You.”

    The seven songwriters from the class of 2023 will be inducted at a gala June 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

    Snoop Dogg, whose hits include “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin & Juice,” will be joining such rappers as Missy Elliott and Jay-Z in the hall. Estefan is credited for popularizing Latin rhythms with such crossover smashes as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” and “Let’s Get Loud.”

    The inductees include soul-jazz vocalist Sade, whose 1980s soft rock hits include “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo,” and Lynne, of ELO, who penned “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Evil Woman.”

    “I’m very excited about this honor. Songwriting has always been my passion. This means so much to me,” Lynne tweeted Wednesday. Estefan took to Instagram to thank “all the incredible fans that, by listening to my music, have made it possible for me to receive this incredible honor!”

    Ballard helped write Alanis Morissette’s monster 1995 album “Jagged Little Pill” and was involved in the recording and writing of several Michael Jackson albums, including “Thriller,” “Bad” and “Dangerous.”

    Riley, the singer, songwriter and producer, is credited with creating New Jack Swing and its top anthems like Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” and Keith Sweat’s “I Want Her.” Rose co-wrote many songs with Taylor Swift, including “You Belong with Me,” “Teardrops on My Guitar” and “White Horse.”

    The 2023 class “represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world,” said Nile Rodgers, the hall’s chair.

    Eligible voting members late last year turned in ballots with their choices of three nominees from the songwriter category and three from the performing-songwriter category.

    Some of the 2023 nominees who will have to wait include The Doobie Brothers, R.E.M., Heart, Blondie, Bryan Adams, Patti Smith and Steve Winwood.

    On October 22, 2022, Elon Musk began his tyrannical reign over Twitter. Promising users that their voices matter – spoiler alert: they don’t – by letting them decide the fate of Twitter through polls, Elon’s TwitterVerse was decreed a “good thing.” However, it’s been anything but.


    Since the very moment Jack Dorsey handed Elon the keys to Twitter HQ, we’ve seen previously banned accounts reinstated for controversial public figures like Andrew Tate and Donald Trump – although Trump refuses to rejoin the platform. We’ve witnessed the arrival of Twitter Blue, where just about anyone can get verified for $9/month and impersonate your favorite public figure. It’s been…interesting.

    The sort of “Free Speech” Elon’s referring to actually means people have the freedom to spread hateful speech…and absolutely no one can Tweet negatively about Elon. Since Musk acquired Twitter, he’s publicly mocked the usage of pronouns despite having a transgender daughter and suspended a handful of journalists who actively investigate his behavior.

    Crazy, unattainable hours, a mass-quitting exodus at HQ, and an intense drop in the Tesla stock have resulted from this absolute disaster that is Elon’s Twitter. It’s the Fyre Fest of social media.

    Since Elon is so “For The People,” he’s heard your cries for help. Last night, 17 million people voted on a poll focused on whether or not Elon Musk should step down from Twitter on his own. The resounding consensus? Yes!

    Since he is an egotistical billionaire, I won’t be shocked if this Tweet gets swept under the rug. I fear for whomever steps up to take his place.

    Snoop Dogg’s life story is officially headed to the big screen. The rapper, actor and business mogul and Universal Pictures announced the upcoming production of a biopic on Wednesday. 

    “What’s his name? Snoop Dooogggyyy Doooooggg,” Universal Pictures tweeted. “That’s right, we’re partnering with the Dogg Father himself @SnoopDogg to bring his legendary life-story to the big screen.”

    Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., also confirmed the news, tweeting out an article of the announcement with a simple word, “Finally.” 

    “Black Panther” co-writer Joe Robert Cole will write the film and Allen Hughes, who directed the 1993 film “Menace II Society,” will direct the biopic, according to The Associated Press. In a statement to the outlet, Snoop said he “waited a long time to put this project together.” 

    “I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” he told the AP in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.” 

    Snoop’s fame spans decades. He got his start in the early ’90s, releasing his first album, “Doggystyle,” in 1993. He has since released 19 more albums, most recently, “B.O.D.R. (Bacc On Death row)” earlier this year. The latest studio release was released shortly after he acquired the record label he helped found and debuted on, Death Row Records. 

    The now-51-year-old also starred in several movies in the late ’90s, including “Da Game of Life,” “Ride,” “Half-Baked,” and “Urban Menace.” 

    And while his career and iconic persona have made him a cultural phenomenon, it has not come without controversy. 

    The rapper has been accused multiple times of sexual assault. In 2004, a makeup artist filed a $25 million lawsuit against Snoop accusing him and several of his entourage members of drugging and raping her two years prior. She also alleged that one of his associates beat her up after a taping of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 2003. Snoop filed his own lawsuit shortly after, saying she was trying to extort him. 

    That woman’s lawsuit was dropped within a year and no criminal charges were ever filed. Snoop’s lawsuit against her was also dismissed. 

    Another lawsuit against Snoop was made this past February just days before his Super Bowl halftime performance. A woman said that the rapper and his “spiritual advisor” sexually assaulted her in 2013 after offering her a ride home from a club. She claimed his associate attacked her the next morning and that later that day Snoop assaulted her in the women’s bathroom at his studio, where she was auditioning to be a part of his YouTube talk series. 

    That case was soon voluntarily withdrawn and then dismissed, but refiled in July in Los Angeles federal court. A representative for Snoop said her complaint was “full of false allegations and deficiencies.”
