  • The One Sneaker Brand French Women Always Reach For

The One Sneaker Brand French Women Always Reach For

    [ad_1]

Ever since I saw Phoebe Philo walk out at the end of Celine shows during her tenure wearing Adidas Stan Smiths shoes, I’ve had a pair in my closet—along with almost every single chic woman I know. The style, quintessentially elevated, has come to represent a chic je ne sais quoi about modern-day elevated dressing. I’ve worn mine with lady jackets and office-appropriate trousers just as easily as I’ve worn my Adidas shoes with jeans and oversized sweatshirts on a day where I’m running errands. If a French woman could be a pair of sneakers, she’d 100% be a pair of Adidas shoes.

More than just simple, white leather shoes, the entire Adidas brand has become synonymous with cool, French girl style over the last few years. Their Sambas represent the fun-loving, trend-forward girl hanging out around the Marais neighborhood. Ultraboost live on the feet of cool, on-the-go moms picking up produce and taking their immaculately-dressed babies to the Louvre. For the fashion set, the Stan Smith reigns superior (although, we have a soft-spot colorful Gazelles too).

If you’re anything like me, you want an affordable sneaker that can go with anything. Luckily, nearly all of Adidas’ best-selling, must-have styles are $150 or under. If these outfits can’t convince you French women are obsessed with Adidas shoes, I honestly don’t know what will. Below, shop all the pairs sitting in their carts.

This Is Not a Drill—Adidas Just Restocked Its Sell-Out Sambas

    [ad_1]

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three years, you probably already know all about the phenomenon that is Adidas’s Samba sneakers and the hold the retro soccer style has on fashion people. Their allure is no big mystery or anything. With an affordable price tag, a minimal appearance, a handful of cool collaborations (from Gucci to Wales Bonner), and a long history of being worn by interesting people, there really was no other option but to be majorly successful. But no one could have predicted just how buzzy they’d become.

In 2023, classic black or white Sambas are some of the hardest shoes to get your hands on, and that’s in comparison to viral designer heels and limited-edition releases. Whether it’s a third-party stockist or Adidas itself, retailers simply cannot seem to keep these old-school sneakers in stock. That is why it was such a big, huge, major deal that when I popped onto Adidas.com yesterday to check on available sizes and found the entire selection to be in stock. But that was 12 hours ago, and already, smaller sizes in the white OG Sambas are gone. Don’t let that happen in the black option too without snagging a pair for summer. Before every last Samba disappears, scroll down and shop 2023’s most-wanted kicks.

When it comes to my everyday style, there are a lot of factors that come into play and ultimately inform my outfit decisions. I’m a mom of two and a fashion editor who is officially in her 30s. Luckily, all of these things kind of point in the same direction, which is comfort and practicality while simultaneously trying to look cute, cool, and put-together.

Where does that leave us? Sneakers, of course. While I have more pairs than I am willing to put into writing, there are five special styles that get exponentially more airtime than the rest. To read about and shop each of my favorites, plus see how I’ve styled them lately, just keep scrolling.

No matter what your take is on office dressing, sneakers can absolutely have a place in your workwear outfits, especially if you work in a creative field. In the fashion industry, sneakers can be found everywhere from the office to the street style scene at fashion week. Curious about which sneakers make the cut as office-approved, I asked Who What Wear fashion editors to weigh in on the styles they’d wear to the office.

Their picks range from trendy styles, such as the retro shoes defining sneaker trends, and classic designs you can have in your closet for years and years. The common thread? Their top sneaker choices are all low-key and subtle rather than some of the louder designs on the market. Ahead, the best sneakers for work, according to editors.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Wore the Pants Trend Everyone Is Wearing With Sneakers

Jennifer Lawrence Wore the Pants Trend Everyone Is Wearing With Sneakers

    [ad_1]

Jennifer Lawrence may have a closet full of designer clothes, but the pieces she chooses are always relatable, or at least how she styles them is. Lawrence could be wearing head-to-toe The Row, but style it to look like an outfit you or I could re-create with less expensive pieces. This brings us to the casual outfit she wore in New York City over the weekend.

Aside from the presence of the paparazzi, Lawrence likely blended in with every other stylish New Yorker enjoying the summer weather over the weekend, and she has her outfit to thank for that. She opted for a simple black tank top and baseball cap paired with a black belt and crossbody bag from The Row. But it was her pants-and-shoe combination that was the most noteworthy and on-trend.

Lawrence paired utility pants (a perfectly baggy cargo-carpenter hybrid pair from Matteau) with everyone’s favorite It sneakers (yes, the Adidas Sambas). It’s a pairing you’ve likely seen all over your city and your Instagram feed, so don’t be afraid to continue to wear it—the trend is sticking around for a while. With that, scroll to see JLaw’s look and shop chic utility pants to wear with sneakers.

Celebrity stylists are invaluable resources if you want to peek behind the curtain of Hollywood fashion. While you might see their handiwork all over the red carpet and on Instagram, you don’t always know the ins and outs of the getting-ready process. For instance, I’ve been fascinated to learn about what brands celebrities actually buy for themselves given the fact that they are often gifted with or loaned many of the things they wear.

So far, I’ve tapped stylist Tiffany Briseno to shed light on the jeans and underwear that celebrities buy for themselves, and now we’re turning the spotlight on sneakers. Below, Briseno shares her expert opinion on the most popular sneakers in the celebrity world and why they reign supreme.

  • 17 White Platform Sneakers That’ll Get You Embracing the “Ugly” Trend in No Time

17 White Platform Sneakers That’ll Get You Embracing the “Ugly” Trend in No Time

    [ad_1]

When it comes to fashion, I’m always down for an “ugly” trend. There’s just something about an obnoxiously weird design that makes me go, “I need that.” We’ve seen plenty of controversial sneaker trends over the past few years, from dad-inspired styles to chunky soles galore, some even becoming necessities in our forever wardrobes. (I wear my grandpa-esque shoes almost daily.) As trends always come back in rotation, 2000s platforms have reappeared on the sartorial scene, taking on sandals and every day sneakers. At 5’3″, I’m not mad, as I could use the additional height.

Even as someone who embraces “weird” pieces, I know all too well a platform heel can be a little tricky to style. So if you’re looking to incorporate the Y2K trend but don’t want to look too over-the-top, white platform sneakers are for you. They look clean and crisp without being too much. I’ve rounded up 17 of the best below, from Nike to Converse, along with some outfit imagery for styling inspiration.

  • Katie Holmes Wore a Dress From a Beloved French-Girl Brand With It Sneakers

Katie Holmes Wore a Dress From a Beloved French-Girl Brand With It Sneakers

    [ad_1]

New York street-style queen Katie Holmes went for a walk earlier this week. Exciting, right? This is newsworthy because she wore a brand that’s near and dear to the hearts of French women (it’s been around for a decade) but is also gaining major steam in the U.S.: Sézane

Sézane is known for its pretty boho-chic vibe that reminds me of Free People but with a bit more tailoring. Holmes’ Sézane selection was a patchwork midi dress with long sleeves and a buttoned front. The casual dress is perfect for spring days, and while it would work with a variety of shoe styles, Holmes opted for the most casual of them all: sneakers—Adidas Samba sneakers, that is. In 2023, Sambas go with anything and everything—even French-girl boho dresses, as proven here.

Now that I’ve likely piqued your interest about Sézane, scroll to shop Holmes’ exact dress (which is a reasonable $220 and is still in stock in every size) and shop other divine Sézane dresses.

5 Shopbop Brands Fashion People Can’t Stop Wearing

I check Shopbop more than any other retailer, and I’m a shopping editor, so that’s saying something. They have everything. When new events require new outfits, I’ll run to Shopbop. If I have a trip coming up, I’ll check Shopbop every two seconds. If there’s a wedding coming up, you guessed it—I’ll scroll through the retailer. Shopbop houses so many of my favorite brands, so it has naturally made its way to the top of the list of retailers I frequent. But it’s not just me. My fellow editors and fashion fans can’t stop wearing or shopping at Shopbop. After seeing what brands my coworkers and other fashion people have been gravitating toward, I rounded up five absolutely crowd-pleasing brands on Shopbop.

    [ad_1]

Taylor Swift and her rumored boyfriend (although “rumored” seems like an understatement at this point) threw a studio party at Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village last night, and I have questions (such as, what happens at a studio party?). Music royalty like Florence Welch and Kendrick Lamar were in attendance, along with Zoë Kravitz, Channing Tatum, Jack Antonoff, and Margaret Qualley. Swift opted to keep her outfit casual, wearing a vintage NYU sweatshirt, black miniskirt, and sneakers.

Of course, these weren’t just any sneakers. Swift opted for a pair of sneakers from every celebrities’ favorite quiet-luxury brand: The Row. Named The Owen City Sneakers, these beige kicks feature mesh and leather details. They’re undoubtedly shoes that pair with any outfit—casual or dressy—and will never go out of style.

  • Kaia Gerber Wore the Next It Sneakers in the Most Parisian Way

Kaia Gerber Wore the Next It Sneakers in the Most Parisian Way

    [ad_1]

Well, this was inevitable. The next big It sneakers, that is. The immense popularity of Adidas Samba sneakers has undoubtedly paved the way for another pair of retro soccer-style sneakers, and these are from a veteran brand that’s experienced a resurgence as of late: Asics. But first, a little bit of history.

Japanese sports brand Onitsuka Tiger was founded long ago in 1949 and merged with ASICS in 1977. The sneaker style that it’s most known for is the Mexico 66, which was released in 1966, two years before the Olympic Games in Mexico City. The sneakers, which retail for around $100 (just like Sambas), used to be readily available on sites like Shopbop, but now, good luck finding them in your size… TikTok mentions of Onitsuka Tiger seemingly increase by the second. The yellow-and-black pair, in particular, has become especially hard to get your hands on.

So why am I telling you this now? As you may have guessed, Kaia Gerber just wore the shoes, further solidifying them as the next It sneakers. She styled the hard-to-find yellow pair just like a chic Parisian would: with an oversize trench coat and black trousers. Of course, I immediately went down an Onitsuka Tiger rabbit hole, and you get to benefit from the fruits of my labor. • The Best Outfit to Wear With Sneakers, According to French It-Girl Tina Kunakey

The Best Outfit to Wear With Sneakers, According to French It-Girl Tina Kunakey

    [ad_1]

About three years ago, I published a story about the affordable items I repurchase again and again. At the very top of my list? A pair of Superga 2750 Cotu Sneakers ($69). So when I checked my inbox and saw an offer to interview French model and actress Tina Kunakey, Superga’s newest ambassador, I jumped at the chance.

Given her impeccable style, I wanted to ask Kunakey where she gets her fashion inspiration from. “My mood really inspires me, and also the place where I am,” she says. “I don’t really get my inspiration from Instagram or runway shows. I love going to shows, but at the end of the day, it’s a show. For example, I’m not really into wearing head-to-toe runway looks because I won’t be able to wear them in real life. I try to personalize them in my own way so they fit me better.”

I also asked Kunakey what her favorite outfit to wear with sneakers is, and her answer was supremely relatable. “I would say a tank top, denim shorts, and the Superga 2750 Cotu sneakers.” Sounds like my ideal outfit, too. Keep scrolling for pieces you can use to re-create it.

8 Ways to Wear Sneakers to Work Without Looking Too Casual

    [ad_1]

Back in 2017, I made a conscious decision to stop wearing heels to work and, instead, wear sneakers. As a lawyer at an investment bank at the time, this was definitely a bold decision, but a short two years later, the bank decided to allow sneakers per company policy. As a result of my on-the-ground work fighting for cozy girls worldwide, I became an expert at diverting attention away from my dress code violation by sticking to a handful of work-appropriate outfit combinations. There are a few things I’ve learned in the process: As long as your outfit looks considered and put-together, no one will blink twice at your sneakers; try to include at least one tailored element to the outfit, whether that be a blazer, tailored pants, or a button-down shirt; and save the neon colorways for another time and place.

Ahead, you’ll find some work outfit inspiration along with a bunch of super-cute sneakers you can definitely get away with wearing. Bookmark this story and refer back when you’re fresh out of ideas. Trust me.

Amal Clooney Wore Classic Sneakers With the Perfect Casual Spring Dress

    [ad_1]

While Amal Clooney is a workwear fashion icon, her off-duty style is just as noteworthy—and quite different from her usual business attire, I might add. She appears to love fashion and has fun with it, often wearing items that are quite trendy. While getting coffee in L.A. earlier this week, Clooney embraced the “quiet luxury” look.

Clooney re-wore a knit Stella McCartney dress in step with this spring’s “in” aesthetic. Knit dresses are ideal for spring when the weather is not quite cold but not exactly hot since they’re comfortable, versatile, and provide a bit of warmth. Clooney was previously spotted in this particular dress at the airport, where she paired it with a controversial pair of boots.

This time, however, she opted for classic white Adidas Stan Smith sneakers, proving that two timeless and versatile items are better than one. Read on to shop Clooney’s chic spring outfit combination.

There aren’t many sneakers that have stood stand a chance against New Balance sneakers. Sure, they’re old-school, and your dad probably owns a pair or two (and says he likes them because they’re comfortable), but now everyone is wearing them—fashion insiders, celebrities, and everyone on Instagram included. Thus, they’re selling out fast and furious, but that doesn’t mean they’re completely wiped out.

Perhaps the best thing about New Balance sneakers (besides the comfort level and affordability, of course) is that they’re such classics that you’ll likely avoid that flash-in-the-pan trendy-sneaker curse if you invest in a pair now.
