  • I Just Came Back From Copenhagen— This is the Sneaker Trend I Spotted Everywhere

I Just Came Back From Copenhagen— This is the Sneaker Trend I Spotted Everywhere

It’s no surprise that the stylish, colorful Scandi crowd has a few sartorial rules they live by. Number one: an outfit is (nearly always) boring if you’re wearing all-black. Number two: flat shoes are an essential if you’re walking or biking anywhere in the city.

After spending almost a week in Copenhagen earlier this fall and winter, I’ve got to admit, I’ve been coming around to the colorful sneaker trend that the Danish set swears by. I picked up not one, but two (!!!) saccharine sneakers while I was in the Scandi city and, as expected, they don’t disappoint.

While colorful sneakers can be daunting to style, though, there’s a few outfit formulas that the  Copenhagen crowd has perfected to a science. Below, scroll for colorful sneaker outfit inspiration and shop some of the best, can’t-miss pairs of the season.

  • I'm Picky About Comfortable Shoes, and These Chic Wide-Width Pairs Pass My Test

I'm Picky About Comfortable Shoes, and These Chic Wide-Width Pairs Pass My Test

Despite the fact that I have a massive shoe collection, ashamedly, none of them really fit me right. For context, I’m anywhere from a size US 10.5 to a US 12. Add having wider feet than most on top of that, and it’s a recipe for disaster when it comes to well-fitting footwear. Over the years, I’ve spent more money than I can fathom on shoes that pinch my toes, give me blisters, or end up being downright uncomfortable. So when a friend asked me for wide-width shoe recommendations the other day, I was embarrassed when I said I didn’t have any off the top of my head. Naturally, as a curious editor, I knew I needed to find out so I’m not empty-handed when asked next time.

Over the last three months, I’ve walked over 60 miles in New York, Seoul, Copenhagen, and Porto while testing some of the best wide-fit shoes on the market. My requirements? Only two: They have to be comfortable enough that I last a full 12 hours in them, and most importantly, they have to be cute. (No orthopedics here!)

From runway-ready slingbacks that don’t make me want to cut my feet off to sneakers so good Bella Hadid approves, these five wide-width shoes are the ones I firmly stand behind.

Superstar pop producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, in addition to being responsible for co-writing and producing some of the greatest pop albums of the past decade (that’s Melodrama, Reputation, and Norman Fucking Rockwell, for anyone wondering), also happens to have a deep knowledge of obscure sneakers, at least if his fit on the Tonight Show earlier this week is anything to go by. He wore a pair of high-top football Derby’s from Zeha Berlin, an excellent throwback shoe and a bona fide sneakerhead deep cut.

For the second time in less than a week, rookie phenomenon Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio Spurs faced off against Kevin Durant and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns—and this time, in addition to securing yet another victory over the otherwise dominant Suns squad, Wemby dropped a career-high 38 points. But if you had been paying attention to his entrance, his forceful performance wouldn’t have come as a surprise: He signaled his intentions to kick ass and take names when he turned up in black Air Force Ones.

  • Behold, the Most Diesel Air Jordan 1 Ever

Behold, the Most Diesel Air Jordan 1 Ever

The best bit though is the ridiculously chunky platform sole. Aggressively designed and slightly brutalist, it’s etched with a grid-like pattern and updated with a toothier outsole for extra grip and traction. It’s absurdly tall too, so those dreaming of a 6’1″ Tinder stat can finally live out the fantasy.

Despite looking completely different, the Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn still has all of the same features that make its sneaker counterpart so recognizable. From the Swoosh that glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls to the perforations dotted along the toebox. Even the midsole, as outrageously gigantic as it is, is infused with Air tech for extra comfort.

    Nike

This isn’t the first time that the Air Jordan 1 has undergone the high fashion treatment. In 2020, Jordan Brand teamed up with Kim Jones for the Dior x Air Jordan 1 High OG. Only 13,000 pairs of these were made globally, and on the day of launch, over 5 million very hopeful sneakerheads tried to cop.

Behold the Most Diesel Air Jordan 1 Ever

    Nike

The Air Jordan 1 Brooklyn is expected to release via Nike, the SNKRS app, and select stockists worldwide in January for $165. If you’re looking to cop a pair, hopefully your feet are on the smaller side—the current intel is that these will run in women’s sizing only.

  • Inside Kanye West’s troubled Adidas partnership: Tears. Rage. Thrown shoes. Even a scrawled swastika.

Inside Kanye West’s troubled Adidas partnership: Tears. Rage. Thrown shoes. Even a scrawled swastika.

The ending of the partnership between the artist Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, in October 2022 appeared to come after weeks of his comments about Jewish people and Black Lives Matter, but the New York Times is reporting that the relationship was troubled from the very start.

At a meeting on the collaborative creation of the very first shoe in 2013, Adidas

designers were stunned when West rejected all of the ideas that were presented using fabric swatches on a table and a mood board, the seven-month investigation found. Instead, West, the Times reports, grabbed a sketch and drew a swastika in marker.

The move shocked the Germans in the room. Germany has a strict ban on displaying the symbol of the Nazi era apart from for artistic purposes. Adding to the sense of horror, the company’s founder — Adolf, or “Adi,” Dassler, who died in 1978 — was a Nazi Party member, and the meeting took place close to Nuremberg, where leaders of the Third Reich were famously tried for crimes against humanity.

A year ago this week, Adidas threw in the towel.

West’s fixation on the Nazi era continued, the Times reports, when he later told a Jewish manager at Adidas to kiss a portrait of Adolf Hitler every day. He also told Adidas workers that he admired Hitler’s use and command of propaganda.

West also brought porn to the workplace and made crude, sexual comments at meetings, according to the Times report. Before the swastika episode, West, according to the Times, had made Adidas executives watch porn at a meeting in his Manhattan apartment.

In 2022 he reportedly ambushed executives with a porn film. Other workers complained to top managers that he had made angry sexual comments to them.

The artist, said to have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, also frequently cried or became angry during meetings, according to the Times investigation. In one instance in 2019, he reportedly moved the operation designing his shoes to Cody, Wyo., and ordered the Adidas team to relocate. In a meeting to discuss his demands with executives, he threw shoes around the room, the Times reports.

Adidas sought to adapt to this behavior, given how valuable the West-established Yeezy brand was to the company, locked in a perennial battle for both revenue and buzz with its U.S.-based rival Nike Inc.

Managers launched a group text chain they called the “Yzy hotline” to discuss his behavior. To reduce stress on individuals, the company is said to have rotated managers in and out of dealing directly with West.

Over time, meanwhile, Adidas sweetened the terms of West’s deal. Under a 2016 contract, he was entitled to a 15% royalty on sales with a $15 million upfront payment as well as millions of dollars in Adidas stock. In 2019, a further $100 million a year was earmarked for marketing, but, in reality, West could spend those funds at will.

A year ago this week, though, as public awareness of West’s problematic attitudes are remarks spiked, Adidas threw in the towel, and as sales of Yeezy shoes fell away, it warned it would record its first annual loss in decades. As West’s net worth plummeted, the company wrestled with the decision of how to dispense with its final $1.3 billion in Yeezy products, mulling options including disassembly and repurposing, donation to charity, and outright disposal.

When a decision was reached to sell the product — in release batches — with some of the proceeds directed to charity and most of the rest flowing to Adidas, West, even then, was entitled to royalties.

After bottoming in October 2022, Adidas shares have mounted a 67% comeback, with relief over the company’s not having had to book a damaging loss on the Yeezy line one factor in the restoration of investor confidence.

Adidas is quoted as having told the Times that it “has no tolerance for hate speech and offensive behavior, which is why the company terminated the Adidas Yeezy partnership,” while West reportedly declined requests for interviews and comment.

The Times investigation is said to have been based on access to hundreds of previously undisclosed internal records.

  • Taylor Swift’s Sneakers Might Be a Gift From Travis Kelce — Shop Them Here

Taylor Swift’s Sneakers Might Be a Gift From Travis Kelce — Shop Them Here

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

Taylor Swift fans live for investigations into her wardrobe, as proven by their latest conundrum: did boyfriend Travis Kelce gift her those Nike Air Force 1s? The 33-year-old musician sported a red-and-white pair of the iconic shoes to watch the Chiefs play on Oct. 22, famously planting a kiss on Kelce’s cheek after the game. The photographic evidence, which also pictured teammate Mecole Hardman, Jr. and his girlfriend, Chariah Gordon, naturally made waves as another milestone in the couple’s highly publicized relationship — their first internet smooch! While Swift’s outfit involved a vintage Chiefs sweatshirt from Ellie Mae Studios, a pleated skater skirt, and a friendship bracelet strung with the tight end’s number on it, sneakerheads are going on about her themed kicks, which have reportedly been personalized for team members and their loved ones.

The Nike team told POPSUGAR via email they are unable to comment on whether or not the shoes were a gift, but confirmed that they are customized — we’d just need a screen-penetrating magnifying glass to zoom in on the details. Kelce’s teammate Ross Travis shared an Instagram Story featuring a group of similar custom Nikes, as documented by People, leading Swifties to believe the footwear is a Chiefs “welcome gift.” One X user predicted the exchange the day of the game, and another reiterated that the red Nikes mean she’s officially Kelce’s girlfriend. Meanwhile, sneaker podcaster Matthew Welty made a connection to Swift’s “Delicate” lyrics: “Dark jeans and your Nikes, look at you.” So it looks like Swift and Kelce are truly a match made in heaven — or should we say in Swift’s “Mastermind”?

The Classic Sneaker Style French Women Wear on Heavy Rotation

When it comes to looking for classic outfit inspiration, I can’t help but beeline over to the Insta profiles of my favorite French or Paris-based muses. As cliché as it might sound, Parisian style—or the idea of it anyway—has undeniably set the bar for many when it comes to putting together an elevated, timeless look. I had my fall wardrobe in mind during a recent perusal of my favorite French-girl accounts, and it dawned on me that there was one sneaker brand I saw them donning no matter the year or the season: Converse. It’s no surprise either.

Converse sneakers have long had a cult-classic status, which is quite apropos when it comes to French fashion. I know any shoe style is instantly chic when given the Parisian style treatment, but women in France truly wear Converse on heavy rotation—and for good reason. You can wear a pair year-round with everything from jeans to skirts to dresses to trousers seamlessly. Plus, they are under $100 and come in a variety of colors and styles. Below, you’ll find seven fall outfit ideas straight from some of the chicest French women I know, all complete with Converse sneakers.

BRB, I’m Stealing Paul Mescal’s Latest Casual-Chic Red Carpet Outfit Formula

Since Paul Mescal first graced our screens on Normal People back in 2020, his personal style has garnered the attention of the fashion set—myself included. Back then it was all about his viral simple chain necklace and super-short sporty soccer shorts, but these days it’s his sleek fashion-forward red carpets looks that have my attention. This is all thanks to his stylist Felicity Kay, who styles some of the most exciting up-and-coming talent like Ncuti Gatwa and Kit Connor (both actor’s respective Netflix series are a must-see). That said, I highly recommend following Kay on Instagram.

Last month, Mescal hit two red carpets in casual-chic looks that I immediately knew I wanted to recreate. Both follow an easy outfit formula composed of three main key pieces: a white basic top, neutral trousers, and black Adidas Samba sneakers. If there’s one thing Taylor Swift knows about game day, it’s that no outfit is complete without a sleek pair of New Balance sneakers. While cheering on Travis Kelce at a Kansas City Chiefs game on Sept. 24, Swift wore a white cropped tank top by Dôen, Ksubi distressed denim shorts, a Chiefs windbreaker, and a pair of red-and-white 550 New Balance sneakers. On Oct. 3, Swift was again spotted in a pair of New Balances — this time the Ganni x New Balance 1906R sneaker — during a stroll through New York City. She styled the shoes with black bike shorts, a Still Here New York Dad Cap, a Louis Vuitton camera box bag, and an oversize Shania Twain t-shirt from Free People.

Since making her public debut with Kelce on Sept. 24, Swift has seemingly adopted a sports-centric wardrobe with a focus on athleisure pieces like sweatshirts and running shoes. The shift in her style has been so noticeable, in fact, that sales for the 550 New Balance sneaker increased by 25 percent in the week following her game-day appearance, according to Complex. Notably, the sneakers first made their debut in 1989, making them a possible nod to “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” her upcoming rerecorded album.

Joined by celebrity friends — including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Brittany Mahomes, and Sophie Turner — Swift attended another Chiefs game on Oct 1. This time, the star arrived in a pair of Area embellished denim shorts, an opulent upgrade from the traditional game day sweats and joggers. She completed the look with a black long-sleeved crewneck shirt, a Gant Studio leather shirt, and Christian Louboutin knee-high boots in place of her usual sneakers.

Like her Eras tour closet, Swift’s game-day wardrobe is scoring major style points from every angle, including her footwear. Shop Swift’s exact New Balance sneakers ahead.

  • Taylor Swift Enters Her Sporty Era at Travis Kelce’s Game — Shop Her Look

Taylor Swift Enters Her Sporty Era at Travis Kelce’s Game — Shop Her Look

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

Taylor Swift is starting football season in style. On Sept. 24, the 33-year-old singer continued her Eras tour break with a game day at Arrowhead Stadium as she watched the Chicago Bears play against the Kansas City Chiefs, where her rumored beau Travis Kelce plays as a tight end. For the casual occasion, Swift showed her support of the Chiefs with a red, black, and white ensemble featuring a windbreaker with the team’s logo from New Era Cap, a white cropped tank from Dôen, and Ksubi distressed denim shorts. She finished the look with classic New Balance 550 sneakers, a tan corduroy cap from Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton’s signature camera box bag, diamond crescent earrings from Jacquie Aiche, and a cherry red lip.

Outside of her glamorous tour costumes that consist of tulle ballgowns and Roberto Cavalli catsuits, the “Fearless” singer has recently adopted a rather laidback style that manages to leave her Swiftie fan base in a frenzy every time. Last week, Swift wore a Reformation knit dress and boots combo for a dinner date with friend Sophie Turner. Throughout the summer, she gave us a glimpse into this new, sportier era on multiple occasions, flaunting everything from a Free People pleated miniskirt and striped button-up shirt to a purple-and-gray NYU sweatshirt and tennis skirt for date night with ex-boyfriend Matty Healy back in May.

Swift’s red carpet fashion is just as awe-inspiring for fans. Most recently, she commanded the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in a black, floor-length Versace dress that had Swifties speculating about the release of her highly-anticipated re-recorded “Reputation” album. She also nodded to her “Lavender Haze” video release at the Grammys earlier this year in a midnight-blue embellished Roberto Cavalli two-piece set.

  • I Styled the Iconic Adidas Samba Like Rihanna and Hailey Bieber

I Styled the Iconic Adidas Samba Like Rihanna and Hailey Bieber

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

My obsession with the Adidas Samba first began in fifth grade. One of my classmates wore the OG classic in black nearly every day, teamed with a pair of Soffe shorts that were rolled precisely three times at the waist. She always beat the boys at soccer during recess. I admired her fashion sense from a young age, and I think that’s because she wore her outfits with confidence and exuded a certain toughness — especially in her Sambas. It’s possible she was even my very first style crush. Today, retro sneakers are having a resurgence, and that certainly doesn’t exclude the iconic Samba, a low-top with three recognizable stripes, the Trefoil-embossed logo at the heel, and a gum rubber outsole. It was, in fact, created as a versatile soccer shoe by the brand in 1950.

Particularly impressed by the quirkiness of Hadid’s outfit and the bold brilliance of Rihanna’s, I aimed to settle on the answer to an age-old query: how to wear Adidas Sambas.

The celebrity support of the Samba is at an all-time high, with models, Hollywood A-listers, and Rihanna (she deserves her own category, right?) reinventing the wheel when it comes to outfits with a tomboy twist. While pregnant with her first son, RZA, in April 2022, Rihanna updated her maternity wardrobe with a pair of white Samba shoes that offset a navy-blue Alaïa ribbed set. They were played up by pearls and the accents on her Dior Saddle Bag, and complemented by an LAFD trucker hat. That might have been the street style look to spark the cyclical trend — Bella Hadid wore her Sambas in Paris around the same time, taking a dark-academia approach. And Katie Holmes and Hailey Bieber rocked them with denim this past summer, stepping out in New York and LA, respectively.

Seeing as school is back in session — and that’s where my love for Sambas began — it felt like the right time to pick up the sneakers (which start at $90), and take them for a spin. Maybe it’s because the shoes represent my early passion for admiring someone else’s style, but I promptly schemed to re-create the celebrity outfits I’d found. Particularly impressed by the quirkiness of Hadid’s outfit and the bold brilliance of Rihanna’s, I aimed to settle on the answer to an age-old query: how to wear Adidas Sambas.

As it turns out, you don’t have to harbor millions of Instagram followers to wear the shoe in precisely the same way Rihanna, Hadid, Bieber, and Holmes did. All four outfits work for achieving athletic appeal like a fashion girl — it just depends how relaxed, or, conversely, how extra you want to stray. Ahead, I review the original Adidas Samba shoe in the context of each celebrity outfit I tried and ultimately choose a favorite look. Scroll to see — and shop — the pieces cut out for the job.

As POPSUGAR editors, we independently select and write about stuff we love and think you’ll like too. If you buy a product we have recommended, we may receive affiliate commission, which in turn supports our work.

I have a soft spot for crisp white sneakers. The only issue? I am a bit on the clumsy side and attract messes like a magnet. Plus, I’ll admit that I’m not most diligent when it comes to spot cleaning or taking preventative measures; it’s just not my strong suit. Consequently, keeping my favorite sneakers looking good has been quite a challenge for me. However, a recent new find has completely transformed my relationship with white sneakers. Enter the Fullup Infinity Cloud White Knit Sneakers ($230). They’re sustainable, machine-washable (!) and, in my opinion, the only white sneaker anyone could ever really need. Ahead, I dive deeper into what makes them great and why they’re a worthwhile investment.

What I Love About the Fullup Infinity Cloud White Knit Sneaker

What I love about these sneakers might be obvious, but it can’t be overstated: they’re so easy to clean. I wore them to the Minnesota State Fair recently, and all of my friends kept noting how wearing them there (amid the dirt, spilled food and beverages, etc.) was brave. Little did they know that these sneakers were specifically crafted to be machine-washable. After a long day at the event, I got home, removed the insole, threw them in the wash, and left them outside to dry. The result was pristine-looking white sneakers. I can’t stress enough that they looked as good as the first day I got them. Here’s a GIF for reference:

These sneakers also deliver exceptional comfort and versatility. Personally, I’m drawn to the sophisticated aesthetic of their knit upper, which gives their overall design an elevated touch. Their minimalist design also complements just about every piece of clothing I have, from casual activewear to chic dresses. Plus, the flexibility of the knit upper ensures that your feet won’t feel confined, which is especially nice for individuals like me with wider feet.

Another thing I love about them — and the brand as a whole — is that sustainability is a top priority. Per its website, Fullup says the knitted part of the sneaker is made of rPET, or certified recycled polyester spun from discarded plastic water bottles. (Ten plastic bottles go into every pair of Fullup trainers.) They also use water-based glue to connect the upper to the sole, which is a safer alternative for the environment than regular shoe adhesive. What’s more, the brand says they use an eco-friendly dyeing method that requires nearly 50 percent less water than conventional techniques and make shoes in small batches to prevent overproduction.

What’s Worth Noting About the Fullup Infinity Cloud White Knit Sneaker

It’s important to note that these sneakers are not a small investment. I understand their price point isn’t attainable for all, but they’re remarkably cleanable. They can save you money in the long run by sparing you the need to replace your white sneakers frequently. In my personal experience, having owned them for just a month and a half, I’ve already given them three thorough washes, and they appear as pristine as the day I first got them. So, despite the steep upfront cost, their longevity could justify the investment over time.

Another thing to consider is that they come in colored-trim versions as well; three, to be exact. You can opt for the sage-trim style ($230), sand ($230), or ink ($230). They cost the same as the all-white version but add an eye-catching pop if you err toward color.

And finally, these sneakers are both breathable and water-resistant. Their single-layer knit upper promotes natural ventilation, “making socks optional,” according to the brand. While I’m a socks-and-sneakers girl through and through, some shoppers have embraced the sockless approach, noting that they’re comfy both with and without them.

Who Are the Fullup Infinity Cloud White Knit Sneakers Best For?

These sneakers are best for those who love the look of a crisp and fresh pair of white sneakers that’ll last without having to do any major upkeep. I also highly recommend them for those trying to be more sustainable in their style choices, as that’s the brand’s core mission.
