  • 5 Red Velvet Songs You Need On Your Halloween Playlist

    [ad_1]

We love all things Red Velvet at THP! This experimental girl group has been a K-pop staple since their 2014 debut. Known for their playful, genre-blending sound, they’ve also mastered a darker, velvety tone that’s perfect for the spooky season. Here are five of their eeriest tracks to add to your Halloween playlist!

    ‘Psycho’

A standout from The ReVe Festival: Finale, ‘Psycho’ is Red Velvet’s most-streamed track for a reason. From its operatic intro to its darker trap production, the song captures the chaos of a toxic relationship through hauntingly beautiful melodies. Moreover, the Victorian Gothic-inspired video enhances this eerie vibe, showing the members in moments of glamour and despair.

    ‘Cosmic’

The title track from their most recent EP, Cosmic, is an endearing disco-inspired track that references the supernatural. Lyrically, it tells the story of an alien who crash-lands on Earth, and the narrator who becomes attached to them. Starting as a typical love song, the music video eventually hints at something far more sinister. Inspired by the horror film Midsommar, its floral, pagan imagery nods to a murderous cult. By the end, the alien seems trapped, as scenes of him being pursued by the group quickly flash by. Once again, Red Velvet rewards their fans who look a little closer.

    ‘Zimzalabim’

Another testament to their genre-crossing abilities, ‘Zimzalabim’ is an experimental track from The ReVe Festival: Day 1. Arguably, it’s their most unsettling track, with its title ‘Zimzalabim’ being used as an incantation throughout. Shifting from upbeat, bass-heavy EDM to dark, unsettling chimes, Red Velvet takes the listener on an unexpected but bewitching journey. However, this is best shown through the almost psychedelic music video, which takes you on a literal rollercoaster ride through genres!

    ‘Chill Kill’

Their most recent title track, ‘Chill Kill,’ is an erratic take on love and murder. Lyrically, it captures the longing for someone in the midst of tragedy. Sonically, it balances menace and elegance, with heavy bass and bell melodies contrasting with its dance-pop core. Furthermore, the music video expands on the story, showing the group covering up a murder before standing hand in hand as police surround them. Of course, only Red Velvet could give homicide such a hauntingly wholesome twist, proving their knack for pushing artistic boundaries.

    ‘Russian Roulette’

The title track from their third EP, ‘Russian Roulette,’ is certainly the most upbeat on our list. At first glance, the song focuses on love, comparing winning someone’s heart to a dangerous game of ‘Russian Roulette.’ Although the 8-bit, dance-pop production makes the track seem bubbly and fun, the music video and title allude to something suspicious. The brightly coloured, cartoonish music video starts off innocently before descending into a deadly game of competition and murder. Ultimately, Red Velvet truly shines in this concept, due to their comedic take on a deadly game.

  • Matching Red Velvet’s Cosmic Songs To Zodiac Constellations

Matching Red Velvet’s Cosmic Songs To Zodiac Constellations

    [ad_1]

Our love for Red Velvet is nothing short of cosmic, and that’s especially true now that we’ve heard their latest EP, Cosmic. Ever since their debut in 2014, they’ve consistently delivered incredible songs, music videos, and more that have cemented their way into K-Pop history. Cosmic is a stunning culmination of a decade of hard work, success, and magic that’s guaranteed to win over any girl group fan!

The Cosmic mini-album celebrates the group’s 10th anniversary with a beautiful fusion of their Red and Velvet concepts, mixing their signature harmonies and R&B influences with bubbly energy and sparkling excitement. This duality also pops up in the era’s visuals – most of the concept photos were space-themed and ethereal, while the ‘Cosmic’ music video takes place in a meadow à la Midsommar

With the cosmic theme in mind, venture “through the solar system” and into the cosmos with us as we assign each track on Cosmic to a different zodiac constellation!

    ‘Cosmic’

Our first peek into Red Velvet’s latest era came with the title track ‘Cosmic,’ which is a sparkly anthem for summer love! Throughout the song, Red Velvet likens their hearts to a star that “tells [them] she’s a bit lonely” as they start falling for someone. They’re ready to take on the world with this new lover by their side! And the chorus’ “riding your rhythm through the solar system” lyric is a fun nod to their 2022 song ‘Feel My Rhythm.’

The Gemini constellation would be a great match for this song since it’s about connection and unity! That symbolism comes from the Greek myth of Castor and Pollux, who were twin brothers despite having different dads. It reminds us of how the members of Red Velvet are like sisters now, even if they aren’t related!

    “‘Come with me,’ you say
‘Discover things no human eyes have seen,’ you say
    I just can’t say goodnight…”

    ‘Sunflower’

‘Sunflower’ is an energetic, adorable song about the thrilling rush of love. It’s as bright as a ‘Sunflower!’ If someone wrote something this sweet about us, we think we’d collapse on the spot. The “I’ll find you in my dreams, driving forward” lyric might be a callback to ‘In My Dreams,’ one of our all-time fave Red Velvet songs, which makes us love this track even more. Our constellation pick for this one is Aries, since it often symbolizes new beginnings and adventure. What an exciting way to describe a new relationship!

“I might melt away in your universe
    You got me hypnotized…”

    ‘Last Drop’

Is it really a Red Velvet EP if we don’t shed a few tears? We think not, and ‘Last Drop’ was the song that brought on the waterworks! Full of pretty synths and guitar strums, it’s all about Red Velvet’s love and appreciation for Reveluvs who have supported them over the years. Even with how difficult it can be in the music industry, they promise to keep delivering amazing music for us and giving us every last drop of effort. We also love how the “dazzling night festival” lyric references their iconic The ReVe Festival albums.

Our official constellation choice for ‘Last Drop’ is Cancer, which symbolizes loyalty. We’ll always be loyal supporters of Red Velvet!

“I’ll fly lightyears to find you
To you, who made me shine bright in the boundless night
To you, my universe and the only reason I exist…”

    ‘Love Arcade’

‘Love Arcade’ has already become one of our favorite Red Velvet b-sides thanks to its creative theme and production! The song compares love to a game that the girls are ready to take on, and its retro pop sounds that sound like a classic video game soundtrack will make you feel like you’re really in a fun arcade. We think the Scorpio constellation would be the best match – it symbolizes passion, strategy, and power, which are three important things when you’re playing a game.

“Everything is ready, there are no rules (Make a new stage)
Should we end this boring quest?
    Let’s go to the top…”

    ‘Bubble’

‘Bubble’ is an energizing, synth-infused track about exploring the world and embracing all its possibilities with the right person by your side. And since this is RV’s anniversary comeback, we think it’s about the group themselves! They’ve made the global music scene their “shiny” stage together and it’s been so fun to watch over the years, especially with how many different sounds and concepts they’ve explored. We’d match up ‘Bubble’ with the Sagittarius constellation, which represents exploration!

“I want to be with you wherever you go
Following your light because all dreams become clearer…”

    ‘Night Drive’

The Cosmic mini-album ends with ‘Night Drive,’ a midtempo synthpop song with a relaxing edge, which would make the perfect soundtrack for an actual ‘Night Drive’ down a city street. It tells a story about enjoying a night drive with someone you care about, possibly as a celebration of Red Velvet’s members or Reveluvs. We think ‘Night Drive’ would totally pair well with the Pisces constellation, which is associated with love and escapism! The symbolism comes from a Greek myth in which Aphrodite and her son, Eros, escape a monster by turning into fish.

“You tell me, ‘I’ll always be by your side, I promise…’”

Which track on Cosmic do you get the most starry-eyed for? Did we match up your fave with the constellation for your zodiac sign? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Titan Content, K-Pop Multinational, Being Launched by Former SM Entertainment CEO Nikki Han (EXCLUSIVE)

Titan Content, K-Pop Multinational, Being Launched by Former SM Entertainment CEO Nikki Han (EXCLUSIVE)

    [ad_1]

Nikki Semin Han, a leading figure in the Korean pop music (K-pop) industry, has teamed up with several of his former colleagues from SM Entertainment to launch Titan Content.

The U.S.-based company styles itself as “the world’s first premier multinational K-pop powerhouse music company.” With studio facilities in Seoul and Los Angeles, the company aims to break K-pop artists in the U.S. market

Titan has pulled off an initial seed finance round that was led and closed by RW3 Ventures and Raptor Group, with Dreamus Company serving as a co-lead investor. Other multinational investors and strategic partners include Animoca Ventures, Sfermion, Bell Partners AB, Heros Entertainment, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Scrum Ventures, Planetarium, and Avalanche.

Korean industry sources suggest that Titan aims to launch two K-pop girl groups, two boy groups, one male soloist, and one female soloist by 2028. It will begin global auditions to scout talent through 2024 and unveil the first new acts in 2025.

Once operational, it aims to combine traditional K-pop business models and content with Web3, metaverse, and AI innovation.

Han (aka Han Se-min) was previously CEO of SM Entertainment, the K-pop talent agency founded by father of K-pop Lee Soo-man, and which represented acts including BoA, Girls’ Generation, EXO and Super Junior. Han departed the company and became president of Astory, producer of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” and CEO of Astory’s subsidiary AIMC.

Other key executives in the new company include: CEO Katie Kang (aka Kang Jung-ah); chief performance officer Lia Kim; chief visual officer Guiom Lee; and chief business officer Dom Rodriguez.

Kang has created casting, training and producing systems that have become the cornerstone of K-pop artist development and worked with TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, F(x) and SHINee.
Kim was previously behind Korea’s iconic 1Million Dance Studio and has trained female acts including Twice, Itzy, Girls’ Generation and CL of 2NE1.

Lee, previously sales head for Prada in Korea and founder of Dazed Korea, has previously worked with The Boyz, Seventeen and GOT7.

Rodriguez is a multi-platinum producer and was recognized on Billboard’s 2023 “40 Under 40” list and as a 2023 “Indie Power Player.”

“Think of Titan like the ‘Avengers’ of the K-pop community joining forces to redefine the industry. With a proven record of elevating global superstars, TITAN’s founders and executives have played key roles in helping shape K-pop and making it a global lifestyle with passionate fans across the world,” said Han. “Together, we’re creating a company where artists thrive, fans come first, music takes center stage, and industry disruption reigns supreme.”

“By connecting the East and the West, Titan plans to lead the K-pop revolution on a global scale,” said CEO Katie Kang. “Not only will we utilize our vast experience and expertise to develop and create beloved K-pop artists and brands, we will also push the industry forward through savvy Web3 disruption.”
