  • Super Bowl Italian Sliders That Will Steal the Show

    [ad_1]

This post may contain references to products from one or more of our advertisers. Oh Sweet Basil may receive compensation when you click on links to such products.

Italian sliders are the perfect party dish for a Super Bowl get together! You start with slider buns and layer them with Italian deli meats like salami, pepperoni, and ham, then add melted provolone cheese.

For extra flavor, you drizzle some garlic parmesan sauce on top, then bake them until golden and crispy. To finish, load them up with your favorite sandwiches toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, pepperoncinis and black olives mixed with a creamy Italian dressing. These sliders are delicious, easy to assemble, and perfect for a crowd!

I’m going to fail you all a bit when it comes to the Super Bowl…we don’t watch it. It hasn’t always been easy, and it was an important decision for our family to not watch the Super Bowl. I know, don’t hate me, but Sunday is our one day set aside for our family and religion. However, we still enjoy a lot of good food (check out our Super Bowl Food Recipe Roundup for more ideas!), so I really wanted to step up a bit and provide our readers with more options for the big day. Food is everything for a football gathering, am I RIGHT?!

I decided to take a nod from our famous ham and cheese sliders and make a new version. Because of my love of chopped salads and the goodness of Italian delis I decided to jump into a fresh version of baked sliders.

What Do I Need to Make Italian Sliders?

Head to the deli and grab a few slices of your favorite Italian meats and some provolone. Then almost everything else you’ll either have at home already or you can grab it in the produce section. Here is everything you’ll need…

    • Hawaiian Slider Buns: You can either grab a pack of rolls at the store or make homemade Hawaiian sweet rolls.
    • Provolone: Grab it from the deli when you get your meats.
      • NOTE: If you aren’t a provolone fan, use mozzarella cheese instead.
    • Meats: Ham, Pepperoni and Salami

    Garlic Parmesan Glaze

    • Butter: the base for the glaze on top of the buns
    • Parmesan: freshly and finely grated
    • Garlic Herb Seasoning: We love Johnny’s Garlic Spread, but any garlic herb seasoning will work great.

    Toppings (Grinder Salad)

    • Mayonnaise: adds creaminess to the dressing
    • Italian Dressing: adds flavor
    • Sliced Black Olives: buy a can of sliced olives or slice whole olives yourself
    • Red Onion: I like them diced pretty small so they blend right in.
    • Shredded Lettuce: shred your own romaine lettuce or buy a bag of pre-shredded
    • Tomatoes: Roma or vine ripe tomatoes work great.
    • Pepperoncini Peppers: a signature of Italian sandwiches and salads that add a little heat
      • NOTE: If pepperoncinis are too spicy for you, use banana peppers or dill pickles.

The measurements and details for each ingredient can be found in the recipe card down below.

How to Make Baked Italian Sliders

Something so delicious shouldn’t be so easy! Baked slider sandwiches are one of my favorite ways to feed a crowd something warm and delicious. Here are the step-by-step instructions…

    1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350℉. Cut the rolls horizontally and place them in the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish.
    2. Layer: Place a layer of provolone cheese on the bottom half of the rolls then top with all three meats. Add the top rolls and gently slice through the seams so that each sandwich is separate.
    3. Bake: Whisk together the melted butter, parmesan and garlic herb seasoning and then brush over the tops of the sliders. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
    4. Make the Chopped Salad: Whisk together the mayo and Italian dressing in a small bowl then stir in the olives (if using) and onions. Add the lettuce, tomatoes and pepperoncini peppers to a large bowl and then toss with the dressing.
    5. Finish the Sandwiches: When the sliders are done baking, carefully remove the tops and add the chopped salad. Put the tops back on and enjoy!

Keep scrolling to the end of the post for the complete recipe found in the recipe card. You can also print or save the recipe there.

Carrian is all about the olives while I’d rather have more spice. Create these sliders to your own tastes by making substitutions like, sun dried tomatoes, peppers, different meats and cheeses until you’ve made the sandwich of your dreams.

    What is a Slider?

slider is an American term for a small sandwich, typically around 2 in (5.1 cm) across, made with a bun. The term primarily refers to small hamburgers like our cheeseburger sliders, but can also cover any mini sandwiches made with a slider roll.

What to Serve with Italian Sliders

Don’t limit yourself to just the Super Bowl for these Italian sub sliders! They are great for a quick weeknight dinner, an appetizer for a party or for a potluck with friends. If you’re serving Italian sandwich sliders as a main dish, here are some side dishes to serve with them:

a photo of several italian sliders on a serving tray with a bag of potato chips in the backgrounda photo of several italian sliders on a serving tray with a bag of potato chips in the background

Can Italian Sliders Be Made Ahead?

Individual components of the sliders can be made ahead of time, but I wouldn’t recommend fully assembling them. You can slice the buns and add the cheese and meats then put the tops on and cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for up to 4-5 hours.

Do not add the garlic butter mixture on top of the buns until right before baking. The chopped grinder salad could be made an hour or so ahead of time, but I wouldn’t make it too much earlier than that or the lettuce will start to wilt and brown.

a photo of an italian slider sandwich stacked on top of another slidera photo of an italian slider sandwich stacked on top of another slider

    Storing and Reheating

If possible, don’t store constructed sliders. The moisture of all the vegetables and the dressing will make them quite soggy. Store the lettuce mixture separately and add right before serving.

Sliders that have been stored with just the meat and cheese can be reheated in the oven or in an air fryer. Add the chopped salad on before serving. If you have leftover sliders that are fully assembled, store them in an airtight container in the fridge. They will keep for about a day and I would just eat them cold.

  • 50-state recall of White Castle burgers that contain some things they shouldn’t

    [ad_1]

An allergic reaction that didn’t kill a consumer alerted White Castle to a problem that could kill a consumer, prompting a 50-state burger recall.

White Castle’s Frozen Food Division yanked two lots of four-count White Castle Original Sliders after finding out they might have Jalapeño Cheese Sliders.

Other than unexpectedly raising the temperature in your mouth, the Jalapeño Cheese Sliders have milk and soy. The original variety don’t, so, the box doesn’t list those ingredients among allergens.

“Consumers with an allergy or sensitivity to milk or soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product,” the White Castle-written, FDA-posted recall notice said.

The recall notice explains: “The issue was discovered when a customer notified White Castle that he suffered a non-life-threatening allergic reaction after consuming one of the Jalapeño Cheese Sliders that was incorrectly packaged in the 4-count Original Sliders carton.”

Lot Nos. 9H203521 or 9H203522 will be found on an end panel of the recalled boxes, next to the best by date of April 18, 2026.

If there’s no chance the little square burgers will be eaten by anyone with a milk or soy allergy, and you don’t mind the jalapeño or cheese, carry on as usual. Otherwise, return the box to the store where you bought it for a refund or toss it in the garbage.

Direct questions to White Castle at 800-843-2728.

  • The Slider Company makes chef-driven small sandwiches a specialty

    [ad_1]

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Slider Company is a Philly pop-up with a slogan that doubles as a greeting: servers start each order with the phrase, “How you slidin’ today?’

Co-founders William R. Johnson, Jr. and Anesha Garrett developed the business as a spot for elevated sliders, and not just burgers. Their menu includes varieties of sliders from chicken to shrimp, with chef touches like paprika-garlic spices, and a chipotle-lime slaw.

Sides and beverages are also on tap, and the current location has games for kids of all ages, plus water for pets. The current pop-up location at The Meadows by NKDCD runs through November 2025, in a park-like setting complete with a vintage Philadelphia trolley.

The business is also in residence at The Luxe apartment building at 1705 N. American Street, and will be moving to a permanent brick-and-mortar in the spring at 2043 Frankford Avenue, just steps away from the park.

    • Lemon Juice: adds a pop of acidity
    • Egg Yolk: makes the cream cheese filling extra creamy and rich

    • Filling: Make the cream cheese filling by beating the cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon juice and egg yolk with a hand mixer until smooth.

    • Whisk: While the sliders are baking, whisk together the ingredients for the glaze.

Tips for the Best Cherry Cheese Danish Sliders

When I go to make any type of slider, I take a whole pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls and slice through them with a long bread knife all at once. It makes them easier to transfer them and to spread the toppings all over them, almost like a sheet of rolls.

Pretty much any time you use cream cheese in baking, you want it to be at room temperate so it can mix with other ingredients smoothly. You don’t want cream cheese lumps in your filling!

Brushing an egg wash over the tops of the buns helps the sliders become golden, crispy and slightly shiny.

    Storing Cherry Cream Cheese Sliders

Cherry pie sliders should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 4-5 days.

Cherry cheese danish sliders are a cross between cheesecake and a danish all in a delicious handheld sweet dessert sandwich. You totally have to give this recipe a try!

  • French Dip Sliders – Oh Sweet Basil

French Dip Sliders – Oh Sweet Basil

    [ad_1]

French dip sliders are perfect for a quick and easy family dinner or for the next big game day! These are buttery with caramelized onions and a luscious aus jus!

French dip sliders are not at all something I grew up with but occasionally when life was busy, the weather chilly and mom was tired she’d gather up simple ingredients for French dip sandwiches. Just sliced roast beef, hoagie rolls, and flavorful aus jus was all she needed to get dinner in the table for five hungry kids.

We have our own French dip recipe on the blog but knowing how mouth watering our ham and cheese sliders are, I have been itching to make a new sliders recipe. You guys, forget the ham ones, these are out of this world. The best thing I’ve made in months!

    Why Make Sliders?

Not that sliders need to be justified, but just in case you wondering why you should make them, let me tell you! Sandwiches are like the best things ever! They are like a whole meal all in one perfect little package. Sliders are just mini sandwiches, so you can eat more than one and not feel guilty! The bread to meat ratio is even better than in a full sized sandwich, and they can be eaten for dinner or for an appetizer. It’s just all around winning!

A photo of a pan full of perfectly baked french dip sliders.

How to Make French Dip Sliders?

These french dip sliders come together in three different steps…the caramelized onions, the sandwiches, and the aus jus. First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×13 baking pan.

    Caramelized Onions

Let’s start with the caramelized onions so that they are ready to go when you assemble the sliders. Slice a medium yellow onion and then melt a couple tablespoons of butter in a saute pan over medium heat. Add the onions to the butter with two sprigs of fresh time and water. Stir the onions occasionally and add salt and pepper. The onions will begin to turn golden and soften. They will cook for about 20-25 minutes.

A photo of french sliders being prepared with the caramelized onions added.A photo of french sliders being prepared with the caramelized onions added.Sandwiches

Now it is time to start assembling the sliders! These are so easy! Start by slicing your rolls in half and place them side by side in your greased 9×13 pan cut side up as shown below.

A photo of a layer or slider rolls sliced in half and laying in a pan.A photo of a layer or slider rolls sliced in half and laying in a pan.

Then you want to lather the top of each roll with stone ground dijon mustard. A different kind of mustard can be used, but we really recommend a stone ground dijon mustard. It just gives it best flavor and extra texture.

A photo of french dip slider being assembled with the mustard added to the rolls.A photo of french dip slider being assembled with the mustard added to the rolls.

Then add a layer of thinly sliced roast beef. We like to go to the deli counter and ask them for a half pound of their best roast beef. Then we just evenly layer it all over the mustard buns.

A photo of french dip sliders being constructed with a layer of roast beef added.A photo of french dip sliders being constructed with a layer of roast beef added.

Next comes the cheese!! We love these sliders with provolone, so we pick up 9-12 slices at the deli counter when we get the roast beef. You can’t have too much cheese, so load it up! Place a layer of cheese on top of the roast beef.

A photo of french dip sliders being constructed with a layer of provolone added on tope of the roast beef.A photo of french dip sliders being constructed with a layer of provolone added on tope of the roast beef.

Now we are going to grab those caramelized onions we made first. Place those evenly over the top of the cheese, and then place the other half the buns on top.

A photo of the french dip sliders with the top rolls added.A photo of the french dip sliders with the top rolls added.

Now we need to mix together the yummy butter topping that will coat the top of the buns. We are going to melt most of the remaining butter, and add a teaspoon of worchestershire sauce and toasted sesame seeds. Brush the melted butter mixture all over the top of the buns, and then cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 20-30 until the sliders are golden brown. We like to top it with chopped fresh parsley after it is done baking.

    Aus Jus

While the sliders are baking, let’s make the delicious aus jus! It is so dang good I could drink it! But that would be sort of weird, so I’ll sick to dunking my sliders in it!

Melt the last tablespoon of butter in a skillet, and then add the garlic, beef stock, worchestershire sauce and fresh thyme. Let it simmer on the stove for about 10 minutes until it reduces a little and thickens slightly.

Serve the sliders with little cups of aus jus on the side for dipping! I’m drooling!

French dip sliders as a meal can go with all sorts of different sides. We love it with herb and garlic roasted potatoes and some roasted garlic veggies. A side of baked beans is great on the side too with a fresh fruit salad. You could really do anything you want! Head here for more side dish ideas.

Why Do They Call Sliders Sliders?

There are many theories out there as to where the name “sliders” comes from. Most agree that the term “sliders” was first used in the 1940s in the US Navy to describe miniature hamburgers that were greasy and just slid right down when you ate them. The term “sliders” has since been expanded to include all sorts of small sandwiches and not just mini burgers.

What Is A Good Cut Of Beef For Roast Beef?

A top loin roast is the best cut of beef for making roast beef that can be sliced for sandwiches.

Can You Substitute A White Onion For a Yellow Onion?

Absolutely, especially if you love the taste of onions. White onions tend to have a sharper and more pungent flavor than yellow onions. They cook up great for caramelized onions but will have a stronger taste.

What Can You Substitute For Stone Ground Mustard?

You can use a plain dijon mustard or a spicy brown mustard. We just love the flavor and texture that stone ground mustard adds.

What Type of Bread Should Be Used for Sliders?

Any small roll or bun will work just fine. They actually make little slider sized hamburger buns these day. Hawaiian sweet rolls are my preferred roll for sliders.

These french dip sliders are my new favorite things ever! They are bold in flavor, juicy, cheesy and buttery. All the best things!!

These Ham and Swiss Sliders are some of the best you will ever have. I always have to double the recipe because they go so fast!

Ham and Swiss SlidersHam and Swiss Sliders

If you love these sliders you need to check out our Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders. They are always a hit too.

    ❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

We love these ham and swiss sliders because they are simple to make and the addition of brown sugar with the mustard gives these the best taste. They are wonderful right out of the oven and I can never eat just one. You can buy deli meat, grab some swiss cheese, a few more ingredients and you have a fantastic appetizer.

    🍴KEY INGREDIENTS

    • Sweet Hawaiian rolls or something similar
    • Deli Ham
    • Swiss Cheese
    • Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
    • Yellow mustard (Could use honey mustard or spicy mustard)
    • Butter
    • Onion flakes
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Brown sugar
    • Poppy seeds (optional)

    SWAPS

You could always swap out the meat or the cheese in these sliders. Or make half turkey and cheese and half ham and swiss. I do think the sweetness of the ham is what makes these so good!

    🍽️HOW TO MAKE

These sliders are so easy to throw together, the hardest part is just getting the ingredients out. You can throw these together in five minutes.

    COOKING STEPS

    Step 1
Make your sandwiches by splitting the rolls, spreading with mayo, adding a piece of cheese and ham. Add tops and place in a 9X13 baking dish.

    Step 2
Melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave, add poppy seeds, mustard, onion flakes and Worcestershire sauce.  Whisk together with wire whisk.  Brush the tops of the rolls using all the mixture.  Sprinkle the brown sugar over the tops after brushing with butter.  Note: I didn’t have any poppy seeds when I remade these for photos, so they are not in the picture and they are optional either way.

    Step 3
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes.  Remove the foil and bake uncovered for about 5 minutes.  Makes 12 sandwiches.

    ⭐TIP

Hawaiian King Rolls now makes slider buns and so does Pepperidge Farm, which I think makes this much easier than having to split the rolls. I suggest buying those if you can find them.

    RECIPE VARIATIONS

If you love sliders, then give these Chili Dog Sliders a try! They are so easy to make and you could easily make those at the same time you make these.

    ❓FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Why were my buns soggy?

Once you add the butter mixture, you need to bake them immediately so they won’t be soggy.

Do you have to use the poppy seeds?

No, you can easily leave them out.

    STORING AND REHEATING

We just store these in tupperware in the fridge and reheat in the microwave, unless we are heating the ALL back up we do it in the oven. 350 for a 5-8 minutes should work.

    Fried Potato Cakes

These potato cakes are a wonderful appetizer. Great way to enjoy leftover mashed potatoes.

    Dill Pickle Cheese Ball

If you love pickles you will love this cheese ball. It’s so easy to make and a great appetizer.
