  • Celebrate the Season with EA Play’s Holiday Picks – Xbox Wire

From Dec 15-24, we’re shining the spotlight on titles in The Play List and trials — with unique benefits and challenges. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members receive EA Play with their subscription, so make sure to check out all your rewards starting today.

    EA Play’s Holiday Picks

Sports games dominate days 1 to 4, with EA Sports UFC 5 ringing the starting bell. Set up your favorite matches from 2025 to relive iconic wins or change their outcomes.

Then switch gears for day 2, and play up to 10 hours of EA Sports College Football 26. Plus, grab this month’s reward, the EA Play Loyalist Ultimate Team Pack (now through December 31), if you haven’t claimed it yet. Replay one of last year’s memorable bowl matchups, and see if you can flip the results.

On day 3, we’re highlighting EA Sports FC 26 with a 10-hour trial and Holiday Header Blue Boots (now through December 25). Show off your festive flair in Clubs, and recreate iconic matches between the league’s biggest rivals.

Then it’s off to gridiron greatness in Madden NFL 26. Try it out for up to 10 hours and pick up a MUT EA Play December Pack (now through December 31). Test your skills by playing your favorite NFL team’s latest matchup, or take them on a historic postseason run ahead of the upcoming NFL playoffs.

Step out of the sports arena on day 5 with 2 Star Wars titles available on The Play List. Play as iconic characters from the movies in Star Wars Battlefront II. A fan of the Light or Dark side? Try fighting for the opposite side! Or launch Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to take on a single-player narrative where you wield the Force as Cal Kestis.

Next up on day 6 is Battlefield 6, the new standard for FPS combat. Save 10% on the Standard or Phantom Edition as a member, and receive an EA Play Deployment Pack and Season 1 Pack (now through January 19). Can you harness Tactical Destruction and destroy 10 structures in one match?

Next up on day 7, celebrate the end of the racing season with a 5-hour trial and 5,000 XP Boost (now through December 31) in EA Sports F1 25. Up for a challenge? Break the fastest lap record on your favorite track.

The holidays aren’t complete without a little bling, so log in to Apex Legends on day 8 to redeem a Gold Topper Weapon Charm (now through January 5). Update your loadout today.

On day 9, pay a visit to your Sims in The Sims 4 — did we mention it’s free to play? — and add to their adventures with packs (10% off for members). Design a year-end retreat, city loft or creative build that captures your favorite vibe.

All roads lead to play on day 10. Get 10% off San Van Bucks, and use them to unlock the Premium skate.Pass, cosmetics, and more. Skate in style, and drop in to San Vansterdam now.

  • Skate’s $35 Dead Space Skin Upsets Fans

Skateboarding games are a hell of a good time and EA’s recent skate, the free-to-play title aiming to reboot EA’s once-cherished series, is trying to lure folks back into the thrills of digital ollies and kickflips. And because it’s a free-to-play game from a AAA publisher in 2025, it’s got microtransactions and seasons and all that stuff. While we mostly tolerate this silliness in games nowadays, some stuff is just too expensive and too ugly to pass without comment.

Instead of throwing money at the screen for a skin of space zombie-stomper Isaac Clarke from Dead Space, fans of skate have taken to the internet to throw shade at the developers for selling such an ugly version of Clarke for $35 bucks (h/t comrade Pitts at GameSpot). That’s like, a whole meal at Taco Bell these days (with maybe a drink if you’re lucky). It’s also the price of many full, complete games you can play from start to finish. That’s probably what’s left folks so sore: skate. Is the type of game you could once plunk down a moderate sum for and be done with it, but is now yet another nagging wallet leech trying to bank on your nostalgia.

The situation reminds us just how far we’ve come from an era of gaming that felt more respectful of our time and money. One fan over on r/SkateEA points out that 2010’s Skate 3 had an Isaac Clarke skin–but it was free and seemed more faithful to the character’s appearance in the original game.

It’s a real shame as skate looks like a good time otherwise, full of all of the crazy stuff we’ll never be able to do in real life on a skateboard.

And as another fan on Reddit opines, the game’s battle pass (skate pass?) just contains “ugly accessories and clothing along with phoned in feeling graphics for decks” instead of stuff from actual skate brands. And if ever there was an industry that was ripe for having its aesthetics  cut up and sold in little bits, it’s the skateboard industry. With its various legendary designs, from the epic birds of Birdhouse Skateboards to the gorgeous artwork found on your average Element board (which used to my brand of choice back in the day), there’s a ton of cool designs that could be packaged into the game as a fitting tribute to the industry. I’d still be annoyed if those cost $35 a piece, but at least they’d feel a little more relevant.

    C’mon, EA.

  • Skate 4 Is Finally Launching On Consoles & PC In September

Electronic Arts and developers Full Circle announced that after years of waiting and fans begging for a new game, the upcoming Skate reboot will launch in September in early access on consoles and PC.

On August 26, EA posted a short trailer for the next Skate game, which is confusingly just titled Skate, and finally confirmed an early access release date. Previously, the publisher had teased that it would be out sometime this year and later promised it would be out this summer. But now we know that the new, online-only Skate reboot is launching on September 16. Mark your calendars and set aside some time to kickflip. Or crash. You’ll probably be crashing a lot.  Here’s the new trailer:

This new Skate reboot will be an online-only multiplayer-focused open-world adventure featuring over 100 songs and up to 150 players skating together in a single session. The game is set in San Vansterdam, a city built from the ground up by EA and Open Circle to be the dream playground for all skateboarders.

It’s been a long wait for this new Skate game. EA first revealed it was working on a new Skate in 2020 after years of fans begging them to make it. Since then, the game has been leaked a few times, and EA has put out early, unfinished footage of Skate as part of a plan to be more transparent about the open-world skateboarding game’s development. Skate has also been playtested by fans in the lead-up to its launch. The new Skate arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 16.
