  • Morrissey Signs With Sire Records

    [ad_1]

At least one record label is happy to release new Morrissey music. The Smiths’ founder has signed a new contract with Sire Records, reports Rolling Stone, three years after the singer’s previous home, Capitol, shelved a finished album, and five years after BMG officially dropped him—a development Moz blamed on new management and, uh, “diversity.”

“BMG have appointed a new Executive who does not want another Morrissey album,” he wrote in a statement at the time. “The new BMG Executive has announced new plans for ‘diversity’ within BMG’s artist roster, and all projected BMG Morrissey releases/reissues have been scrapped. This news is perfectly in keeping with the relentless galvanic horror of 2020.”

Morrissey has spent the ensuing years teasing two already-recorded, full-length followups to 2020’s I am Not a Dog on a Chain. The first, Bonfire of Teenagers, features Chad Smith, Flea, and Iggy Pop. Initially, Capitol was set to release the album before it reportedly shelved it. “Every major label in London has refused Bonfire of Teenagers whilst also admitting that it is a masterpiece,” Morrissey told The Telegraph in 2024. “And although there is nothing insulting or antagonistic in the title track, label bosses say they are worried that The Guardian would make their lives hell if they supported any such social awareness.” Less is known about the second finished Moz album, You’re Right, It’s Time.

The Sire news comes after Morrissey was forced to cancel two shows on his 2025 North American tour following an online death threat. That same month, the singer claimed he was selling his rights to the Smiths’ catalog.

We’ve reached out to Sire Records for comment on when fans can expect new Morrissey music.

  • 4 Non Blondes Prepping First New Album in 34 Years

    [ad_1]

4 Non Blondes are returning to the studio to record a follow-up to Bigger, Better, Faster, More!—their sole, 1992 album and the launchpad for the enduring superhit “What’s Up?” Details on the album are thin—no title has been revealed—but the band has signed to Kill Rock Stars for its release sometime in 2026. The stalwart indie label is partnering with 4 Non Blondes frontperson Linda Perry to launch an imprint, 670 Records, that will co-release both the band’s album and a Perry solo record, Let It Die Here, which is also coming on an unspecified date next year.

In a statement about reuniting the band, Perry said in a press release, “I put my feelers out into the universe. Playing some songs with 4 Non Blondes just seemed like a fun thing to do, in a way it hadn’t before now. I’ve been behind the scenes for far too long. I want to step out to be the artist I am. I’m just open to all the possibilities that I’ve created around me. I manifest things all the time.” She added that the album will include a mix of new songs and revisited older material.

Rounding out the 4 Non Blondes lineup will be bassist Christa Hillhouse—Perry’s only bandmate to be present throughout the group’s first phase—and two original touring members: drummer Dawn Richardson and guitarist Roger Rocha. (That lineup has reconvened for a handful of reunion tour dates this year.) Original drummer Wanda Day was fired in 1991 and later died of a drug overdose; original guitarist Shaunna Hall left the band during the recording of Bigger, Better, Faster, More! and became an official member of Parliament-Funkadelic in 2007.

  • President Trump Signs Epstein Files Bill – KXL

    [ad_1]

WASHINGTON, DC (AP) – President Donald Trump signed a bill Wednesday to compel the Justice Department to make public its case files on the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a potentially far-reaching development in a years-long push by survivors of Epstein’s abuse for a public reckoning.

The president’s signing sets a 30-day countdown for the Justice Department to produce what’s commonly known as the Epstein files. Those include everything the Justice Department has collected over multiple federal investigations into Epstein, as well as his longtime confidante and girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for luring teenage girls for the disgraced financier. Those records total around 100,000 pages, according to a federal judge who has reviewed the case.

It will also compel the Justice Department to produce all its internal communications on Epstein and his associates and his 2019 death in a Manhattan jail cell as he awaited charges for sexually abusing and trafficking dozens of teenage girls.

The legislation, however, exempts some parts of the case files. The bill’s authors made sure to include that the Justice Department could withhold personally identifiable information of victims, child sexual abuse materials and information deemed by the administration to be classified for national defense or foreign policy.

  • Sunn O))) Sign to Sub Pop, Share New Songs

    [ad_1]

“‘Eternity’s Pillars’ is named for the mid-1980s television program created and hosted by jazz visionary and spiritual guru Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, focusing on her incessant belief in music’s capacity to attain spiritual transcendence,” Sun O))) shared in a press statement. “‘Raise the Chalice’ is named for a rallying cry often uttered by Northwest legend Ron Guardipee throughout the mid-1990s. ‘Reverential’ equally pays respect and sends loud praise to those who came before us with the heaviest burdens, expressions with music and art being the materials of an antiphon.”

Now a duo of founding members Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, Sunn O))) shared their last new studio LPs, Life Metal and Pyroclasts, in 2019. The band also documented their BBC Radio 6 session from that same year in the 2021 live album Metta, Benevolence.

Scowl Sign to Dead Oceans, Share Video for New Song “Special”

    [ad_1]

Santa Cruz, California, hardcore band Scowl have signed to Dead Oceans and are kicking off their new era with “Special.” The single reunites them with Grammy-nominated producer Will Yip, who worked on last year’s Psychic Dance Routine EP. The new song also comes with a music video directed by Silken Weinberg, which you can watch below.

“Originally [guitarist] Malachi [Greene] sent in the demo while we were touring the UK,” Scowl singer Kat Moss recounted in a press release. “Cole [Gilbert] added his flare on drums; [bassist] Bailey [Lupo] directed the bridge; and, finally, [guitarist] Mikey [Bifolco] cooked up his leads. ‘Special’ is a kamikaze. The lyrics are about threatening the audience by asking ‘What do you really want?’ in clear desperation to answer my own question ‘What do I really want?’ But the answer is simple, I want to feel alive.”

Scowl released their debut album, How Flowers Grow, back in 2021. Since then, they’ve released Psychic Dance Routine and a notable remix of its title track by Nuovo Testamento.

  • Mustafa Signs to Jagjaguwar, Shares Video for New Song “Imaan”

Mustafa Signs to Jagjaguwar, Shares Video for New Song “Imaan”

    [ad_1]

Mustafa, the Toronto artist formerly known as Mustafa the Poet, is back with another new song and news that he’s signed to Jagjaguwar. “Imaan” is a tender love song between two people in search of God and purpose. Helping to establish that dynamic is Snoh Aalegra, who adds guest vocals to the song. Watch the self-directed video, which stars Imaan Hammam and includes creative direction from Ramy Youssef, below.

In a statement, Mustafa further elaborated on the making of “Imaan,” stating, “It’s about longing for all that we don’t have evidence of. Two Muslims journeying through their love of borderless Western ideology and how it contradicts with the modesty & devotion in which they were raised. ‘Imaan’ sonically represents this tussle too – the Sudanese strings and Egyptian oud woven into the bed American folk chords and drums. This tapestry, this collision is the song, is the romance, is the person Mustafa is. How it’s never enough, or too much. The song sits in the grey that people of faith are afraid to live in, but identify with. It’s about the way faith swings beneath Mustafa and Imaan like a rope. How cultural tension and bias and racism can inform and dismember romance.”

“Imaan” will appear on Mustafa’s as-yet-untitled upcoming debut studio album, as will “Name of God” – one of the best songs of 2023. His first release, When Smoke Rises, came out back in 2021. Earlier this year, he organized a benefit concert for Gaza and Sudan featuring performances by Clairo, Stormzy, and Omar Apollo, among others.
