  • YouTube is adding a timer to Shorts so you don’t scroll the day away

    [ad_1]

YouTube is adding a timer to Shorts to help curb all of that incessant doomscrolling, . This feature is rolling out to all users after being spotted in an Android APK file earlier this year, which was originally .

Here’s how it works. Users set a daily time limit for Shorts via the app’s settings. Once reached, they’ll see a pop-up reminding them to take a break. This pop-up is easily dismissed with a tap, but it’s the thought that counts. At the very least, it’ll remind people of just how long they’ve been laying in bed and watching random Curb Your Enthusiasm clips.

This doesn’t currently integrate with parental controls, but that’s coming next year. At that point, parents or guardians will be able to set specific time limits on how long kids can scroll the Shorts feed. That pop-up will not be dismissible by children.

This isn’t the first move by YouTube to help improve digital well-being. There’s a way to set “take a break” reminders at various increments, and the same goes for a .

Why the renewed focus on limiting user engagement? Well, there are nearly 2,000 lawsuits floating around right now directed toward social media companies, . Many of these suits accuse the companies of intentionally designing their platforms to be addictive.

  • Life Comes at You Fast… and Funny

    [ad_1]

Life has a way of keeping us on our toes, one moment you’re thriving, the next you are wondering why your coffee costs $9 and your phone is at 6%.

Through all the chaos life throws at you, humor is the only thing that makes sense.

This gallery is a mix of memes, quotes, and relatable moments that perfectly capture how ridiculous, unpredictable, and oddly poetic life can be – and how perfectly accurate one meme can be.

They are part therapy session, part comedy show, and a reminder that we are all just trying to keep it together. Whether it is a line from Tony Soprano, a perfectly timed tweet, or a photo that says more than a thousand words ever could. 😉

Of all the street style trends to dominate our FYP and social media feeds in recent years, bloomer shorts seem to be the most bizarre (and ironically one of our favorites) yet. And who do we have to thank for it? TikTok, of course. In a single scroll on the popular app, you might come across the piece multiple times, from those viral Miu Miu briefs to Aritzia’s more affordable offerings. Slightly more flirty and risqué than the stomach pudge dress or the fisherman aesthetic, bloomer shorts (aka diaper shorts) have officially made it to the top of the sartorial food chain.

    What Are Bloomer Shorts?

While the idea of bloomer shorts may seem new or daunting at first, they’re far from groundbreaking. Similarly to most trends, the good ol’ “everything is new again” concept applies here, as the fad dates back to 1850 when the silhouette was invented as a practical solution for women’s health and comfort — eventually grabbing the attention of famed suffragette Amelia Bloomer. It wasn’t long before she published her approval of them in her newspaper “The Lily,” advocating for women to have the freedom to wear what they want. They became controversial since they exposed women’s ankles, though they were cut midi-length, directly challenging the gender norms of that time.

Fast forward to present day, and bloomers are still a hot topic of conversation. Aritzia recently released a pair of gray micro shorts that dominated TikTok because of the gathered hem that resembles a diaper. Some users are completely obsessed, while others have expressed their disapproval with comments such as, “That’s grandma’s undergarments” and “It’s recession time.” Although the trouser is polarizing, it shows how much bloomer shorts have evolved. Hailey Bieber recently made the piece a part of her uniform, sporting butter yellow silk diaper shorts as part of a set during Paris Fashion Week.

Other celebrities like Dua Lipa, Lizzo, and Sydney Sweeney have also embraced the trend, from sporty versions to classic denim styles, showcasing the trend’s versatility.

Whether you’re looking to add something different to your wardrobe or you’re curious about the unique trend, keep scrolling to shop our bloomer shorts guide.

  • Sleepless In Crypto: $900-M Liquidated Amid Bitcoin’s Steep Fall

    [ad_1]

A significant plunge in the crypto market has sent shockwaves across the industry over the last 24 hours, leaving a trail of liquidations in its wake. Around 200,000 traders were forced out of their positions as Bitcoin plunged to a seven-week low, wiping out more than $900 million in liquidations over a single day.

    Related Reading

According to CoinGlass, most of those losses came from long bets that could not weather the slide.

    Liquidations Hit Retail Traders

Reports have disclosed that a single large sale helped set off the cascade. Selling pressure intensified as a large holder offloaded 24,000 BTC, triggering a wave of liquidations, said Rachael Lucas, a crypto analyst at BTC Markets.

On Coinbase, Bitcoin briefly fell below $109,000 — its weakest level since July 9. Market participants felt the shock fast; traders who were long were the ones most exposed.

    Macro Signals And Market Reaction

A recent hint from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at Jackson Hole about potential interest rate cuts changed how some investors priced risk.

Since August 14, when Bitcoin reached an all-time high just over $124,000, the asset has corrected by over 10%. Based on data, the drop since Powell’s speech is about 7%.

The single-day move was measured at close to 3% decline for Bitcoin, and total crypto market value slipped back below $4 trillion to about $3.83 trillion as almost $200 billion flowed out of the space.

    Ether Is Holding Up

Ether traded near $4,340 and, for now, looks steadier than Bitcoin. It did fall, but it did not breach last week’s low. Institutional interest in Ether remains a talking point. According to Lucas, institutions continue to focus on Ethereum, even as traders reassess risk across smaller coins.

    Altcoins Took Bigger Hits

Many smaller tokens fell harder than the majors. Solana, Dogecoin, Cardano, Chainlink, and Sui were among the worst hit.

That pushed losses beyond the headline Bitcoin numbers and left traders in altcoin-heavy positions nursing larger drawdowns.

Thin weekend liquidity served to enhance the price gyrations, making the action more extreme than it would have been on a more active trading day.

    September’s Track Record And Outlook

There is also a historical component to the tale. September has a history of strong pullbacks in bull markets, with strong corrections in 2017 and 2021.

Don’t Blame Me, Blame Tory Burch—Capri Pants Are Nearing a Serious Comeback

    [ad_1]

If you know me, you’re probably aware of my keen interest in trends that many would consider controversial. There’s the hot pants, of course, and underwear worn with just tights (no pants). I wear more low-rise jeans than high-rise ones these days and were fond of wedges before they came back. Though I often describe my style as classic and minimal, my obsession with out-there pieces and styling techniques would beg to differ. So, it should come as no surprise that a particular item caught my eye at Tory Burch’s spring/summer 2024 runway show earlier this week—an item that, for those who dressed themselves in the early to mid aughts, might bring with it some minor backlash.

The silhouette in question is capri pants, which haven’t been done in the chicest of ways in recent years, but got one hell of a face lift in Burch’s spring collection, which featured tailored versions of the anti-puddle pants three times, paired with blazers and matching lady jackets, not to mention sporty sunglasses, retro pocket books, and toe-ring footwear. Once so uncool, the sight of capris at the show immediately flipped my perception of them on its head, making me want to immediately leave the show and start shopping for pairs to add into my early fall wardrobe.

  • Olivia Wilde Just Made Hot Pants Look Shockingly Wearable

Olivia Wilde Just Made Hot Pants Look Shockingly Wearable

    [ad_1]

New York Fashion Week is always accompanied by one too many over-the-top outfits (at least for my taste). Sure, it’s a great opportunity to experiment in the dressing room, making pairings that you’d normally consider to be too out-there for just any day at the office. But at times, the looks go too far. Then, there are the masters, the people who can style those risqué pieces just right and make their outfits feel both fitting for the occasion and not in need of any editing down.

One such mastermind is Olivia Wilde (and her stylist Karla Welch), who arrived at the Michael Kors Collection S/S 24 show in Brooklyn this week wearing 2023’s most daring trend: hot pants. Minuscule in size but huge in impact, the teeny-tiny shorts that have been popping up all year are shockingly difficult to style in a low-key, approachable manner. Yet that’s exactly how I’d describe Wilde’s look, which included the brown suede shorts, a matching cashmere sweater, sheer tights, and a floor-length coat, all of which were designed by the man of the hour, Michael Kors. She also added her signature Ray-Ban Wayfarers, of course, and knee-high suede boots from Stuart Weitzman. Just like that, Wilde cracked the code for styling hot pants for fall. Add a maxi coat, tights, and boots, and voilà—a completely wearable way to style bottoms that are only an inch away from being underwear

  • Billie Eilish’s Y2K-Inspired Shorts Are Completely See-Through

    Billie Eilish’s Y2K-Inspired Shorts Are Completely See-Through

    [ad_1]

Leave it up to Billie Eilish to go against the status quo with her signature sense of style. On Aug. 15, the 21-year-old continued her obsession with the Y2K aesthetic while performing at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary. In true Billie Eilish fashion, she took the stage in a black oversize jersey that read “FAMOUS” along with the number 99 and chose the most unconventional bottom — a pair of red mini dolphin shorts layered over see-through black biker shorts and sheer tights. She slipped on red, black, and white striped socks with a classic pair of Air Jordan 3s — originally released in 1988 — further accessorizing with a red skull-printed beanie, long fingerless gloves with black and white stars, and a variety of silver jewelry.

Eilish’s latest look stays true to her well-known reputation for unusual outfit combinations, specifically embracing trends from the ’90s and early 2000s. She’s fearlessly rocked short shorts multiple times, from the tiny camouflage booty shorts she wore over fishnet tights for an Instagram photo shoot to the sheer biker shorts she sported in a similar photo dump. The young star has experimented with other Y2K trends, including a pleated schoolgirl skirt over baggy pants, oversize graphic tees and Moon Boots at the gym, and pinstripe oversize shirts, which she confidently sported at the “Barbie” premiere last month.

The “Happier Than Ever” singer has also explored other style eras and aesthetics. Recently, she channeled the ’50s in a yellow A-line shirtdress for the “What Was I Made For?” music video and her inner “soft girl” with a blue floral ruched dress by Yuhan Wang for Easter. Eilish has even hopped on the naked-dress trend with a sheer black minidress for her Eilish No. 2 fragrance campaign and a Simone Rocha lace gown at the 2023 Met Gala.

The $50 Shorts I’m Buying to Mimic Hailey Bieber’s Most-Worn Outfit of 2023

    [ad_1]

Given how often I check street style blogs and photo agency pages, I pretty much see every single outfit worn by celebrities, and of them all, Hailey Bieber‘s the one I spot the most. But this summer, I’ve found it hard to keep track of all of her looks, particularly because they all sort of look the same. You see, while her nighttime ‘fits have been all across the board, her daytime ones have mostly revolved around one item: her Denim by Orlee vintage 501 Levi’s shorts.

So far this summer, I’ve counted five occasions that Bieber’s worn the baggy, low-rise cutoffs, whether she’s posted the outfits herself on Instagram or been photographed wearing them around NYC and LA. On most of them, she’s paired the shorts with her go-to white Leset cropped Kelly tee, a black-and-gold The Row belt, white socks, and either loafers or Adidas Sambas. To dress up the shorts, she added a Khaite strapless corset top on one occasion, and on others, statement earrings and designer bags, including Bottega Veneta’s Jodie and Saint Laurent’s Le 5 à 7 tote.

With practically all of the fashion world to choose from, it says a lot that Bieber can’t stop coming back for more with these Levi’s shorts. Sadly, Denim By Orlee’s offering of similar styles is limited right now. That’s why I searched the web and found a stellar on-sale alt from Urban Outfitters’ Urban Renewal line that’ll get you the look in no time. Scroll down to see Bieber’s shorts looks and shop the $50 jorts.

Dua Lipa Wore the Controversial Shorts-and-Shoe Combo That’s Becoming a Thing

    [ad_1]

If you think Dua Lipa looks cool wearing just about anything, you’re not wrong. She pulls off even the most controversial of trends with ease, including a certain shorts outfit that fashion people have been embracing as of late.

While shopping in London earlier this week, Dua Lipa paired an oversize leather jacket with a summer classic: cutoff denim shorts. While you or I might typically think to wear sandals or sneakers with cutoffs, fashion people—and Dua Lipa—have been pairing them with knee boots even in the middle of summer. Given that many areas of the world are experiencing one of the hottest summers on record, not to mention the fact that knee boots are hardly breathable, I’d consider this quite a controversial pairing. But if you’re willing to ignore the heat for the sake of fashion, you certainly won’t be alone.

I Finally Gave In to the Biker-Shorts Trend and Found 11 Cool Ways to Style Them

    [ad_1]

There are plenty of summer trends that I jumped on immediately this year: tie-dye everything, ribbed tank tops, and chunky “tourist” sandals, to name a few. Biker shorts were not on that list. But after seeing celebs wear the comfy shorts style over and over again, I finally decided to give them a try.

To be clear, I previously owned one pair of biker shorts that I strictly wore with a sports bra and exercise sneakers for workouts. They never saw the light of day, though, and they definitely never became a part of an outfit that didn’t involve activewear. Flash forward to today, and I can’t get enough of the style. They’re undoubtedly practical for my current work-from-home lifestyle but are also so easy to turn into tons of cool, effortless outfits, like these 11, for example…

The Anti–Short Shorts Trend That Every Cool Person I Follow Is Wearing

    [ad_1]

As much fun as a pair of hot pants can be (for the right occasion, that is), they’re not the most practical summer bottoms. Shockingly short and necessary to adjust every few seconds, the buzzy celebrity trend has its pitfalls, which is probably why their opposite has made a run for fashion’s top spot in the shorts department. And even with all of the bad publicity that Midwestern dads (I can say that because my dad is one) have gotten for Bermuda shorts, the very appropriate hot-pants alternative has managed to campaign their way into every fashion girl’s warm-weather wardrobe.

Summer Sets: The Easy, Comfy, and Cool Trend Everyone’s Vibing With RN

    [ad_1]

Just because we’ll be spending much more time out of the house this summer than we did last year doesn’t mean we’re completely ditching our comfy vibe. Sure, fancier going-out pieces and—gasp—heels are slowly starting to enter back into our outfit rotations, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that comfort is still our top priority. The trend that I’m unpacking here feels extra relevant right now for that reason. It’s easygoing and unfussy but still has that cool factor to it.

Enter the trend I’m dubbing summer sets. In lightweight fabrics like poplin and linen, these duos are defined by two pieces: a button-down shirt with long or short sleeves and coordinating shorts that are somewhat inspired by boxers. Almost as soon as I was aware that these sets were becoming a thing, they suddenly proliferated and started popping up everywhere I looked. Spot them on fashion-girl Instagram styled with cool basics like ribbed tanks and even worn as swimsuit cover-ups. Obviously, the idea is that you’ll be wearing them together, but like all good matching sets, each piece is easily styled solo, too.

Sure, you may have a few solid options already in your offering, but if you’re looking for a refresh, I’m here to bring you an edit of new styles.

On the tank front, there’s everything from a classic ribbed style to a chic one-shoulder find. Shorts? There are certainly denim iterations, as well as cool pull-on styles. I Noticed French Women Don’t Wear Denim Shorts Anymore—They Prefer These 6 Alts

    [ad_1]

As soon as June 21 comes around, denim shorts become one of the first things I reach for when getting dressed. I know the instinct will kick in again this year, but when I searched for fresh outfit inspiration, I was surprised to see this warm-weather staple was losing favor. That’s not to say that everyone has decided against them. However, French women, who have long been a source of style inspiration, seem to be putting them on the back burner. When I went to scan their recent outfits, I couldn’t help but notice they were reaching for several alternatives to denim shorts—six items, to be exact.

Seeing as how French style is synonymous with effortless polish, it takes a lot for Parisians to set aside something as perennial as denim shorts. And yet the six fresh alternatives you’re about to see here are definitely fitting the bill. From pajama-inspired linen pants to tailored shorts, here are the items French girls are wearing on repeat this summer (and you might want to, too).

    [ad_1]

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I want my summer outfits to look and feel effortless. I love a look full of complicated layers in the fall and winter, but once the weather warms up, I lean into the laidback aesthetic, meaning a rotation of dresses, tank tops, tees, and shorts. But when I recently pulled out my summer staples, I quickly realized that most of my shorts are denim, and as of this year, my tastes have changed. While I once loved denim shorts, I’m officially over them now.

This is just a personal preference. I think everyone should wear whatever they like, but I don’t find denim shorts comfortable anymore. I prefer lightweight linen or soft cotton when temperatures are high, so I’ve been on a mission to replace my denim shorts collection with more breathable fabrics.
