If you recently bought a candle during your last Trader Joe’s run, you might want to check the label. Trader Joe’s issued a recall on June 27 of its Mango Tangerine candles because they could potentially be hazardous in your home.

According to the announcement from Trader Joe’s, the Mango Tangerine Scented Candles with the SKU# 56879 may have an unexpected burn pattern. This means that the candle’s flame could potentially spread from the wick to the wax, causing an unexpected larger flame and becoming a safety risk in your home. The grocer mentioned that if you recently bought one of these candles that you should not use it, and they urge you to discard it or return it to Trader Joe’s for a full refund.

Trader Joe’s keeps shoppers informed about recalls by posting them directly on the Trader Joe’s website, letting shoppers know if there are any hazards to know about when it comes to the food and the products they buy. The grocer encourages shoppers with any questions to reach out to their customer relations office, or to send them an email with your questions.

Regardless of whether you have this candle or not, it’s always good to be aware of the fire hazards that can crop up in your kitchen. Keeping flammables away from the stove, not leaving candles unattended, and having a fire extinguisher on hand are all necessary fire safety tips to keep you and your family safe.

Candles may seem harmless, but if you leave one for too long on your countertop, it can potentially be dangerous and quickly become a hazard, no matter the type of candle you like to burn. If something did happen, whether it’s due to this particular Trader Joe’s candle or something else, be sure to seek medical attention if you experienced any injuries.

S’mores are classic in the summertime, and thankfully, an easy dessert that always seems to please a crowd. Toasty marshmallow and melted chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers. But what if you could kick it up a notch? What if you added a Reese’s peanut butter cup? Better yet, what if you grill that peanut butter cup over the fire?

Now before you tell me that this is impossible because the chocolate will, in fact, melt, just wait. This clever trick makes it easy to get a toasted marshmallow and chocolate peanut butter goodness without too much of a mess over the open flame.

This hack comes from @onesweeetmama on Instagram. Instead of roasting a marshmallow and placing it on a cold peanut butter cup, she spears the side of the peanut butter cup with two long steel pokers and dips half of it in marshmallow fluff. She then holds it over the fire for a few seconds, just long enough for the marshmallow fluff to heat and melt. She then smooshes the warmed marshmallow peanut butter cup in between two square graham crackers, now melted from the fire, making for the perfectly grilled s’mores treat.

S’mores (and peanut butter cup) lovers such as myself are absolutely loving this dangerously delicious trick and sharing their thoughts in the comments of this post. “That is amazing,” one foodie writes. “Doing this ASAP!” another writes. Even Hersheyland’s Instagram account commented on this post, saying “new method unlocked” with a heart-eye emoji. I certainly agree. It’s brilliant, and I will absolutely be testing out over the Fourth of July.

Not a fan of peanut butter cups? We have a feeling you’ll love trying out these campfire banana boat s’mores instead!

  • People Are Just Discovering How to Use a Cheese Grater the Right Way, and I Can’t Believe I Didn’t Know About It Sooner

People Are Just Discovering How to Use a Cheese Grater the Right Way, and I Can’t Believe I Didn’t Know About It Sooner

    [ad_1]

We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.

I know that grating a block of cheese is preferred compared with buying a bag of shredded cheese. Pre-shredded cheese is bagged with an additive that helps prevent the cheese from clumping and sticking together, making it easy to sprinkle onto your dishes. However, those additives can slightly alter the texture of what you’re eating, which is why many cooks prefer to freshly grate their cheese.

But having to grate a block of cheese is, to be honest, kind of the worst. It’s tiring on the arms and can easily make a mess. So when I recently came upon a cheese grating hack on Instagram, I was instantly intrigued. Could this solve all of my cheese grating woes?

Here’s how it works: Instead of holding the handle of the vertical cheese grater at the top and covering the bottom with a cutting board or bowl to catch the grated cheese, turn it over on the side. Hold the handle of the grater near you and grate the cheese away from you. The inside of the grater will still catch the cheese without it getting anywhere, then you can carefully transfer it to a bowl and empty it.

I’m particularly a fan of this way of grating cheese because of how much easier it is on your arm. It also makes for a mess-free transfer, and you don’t have to hold a bowl steady or anything as you grate the cheese vertically.

While many people have their own opinions on how you should grate cheese, I agree with the sentiment that this way of grating cheese is far better than others. “I have a better grip and better pressure on the block/piece of cheese,” one foodie comments. “I started doing this, much easier!” another writes. I couldn’t agree more!

Michaels might be the store you go to for all of your crafting supplies, but secretly, it’s also the best spot to get the cutest home decor — especially when you get a look at its Italian Kitchen collection! From charming baskets and wall decor to jars that look like tomato-sauce cans and tomato-shaped bowls, the collection is not one you’re going to want to miss. While everything is utterly adorable, it’s the pasta plates that we can’t seem to get enough of — and neither can other Michaels shoppers.

Michaels is now selling assorted ceramic pasta plates at $6.99 a piece, and they’re perfect for snacks and dips, or hey, even your favorite pasta dish. There are three different plate shapes to choose from: bow tie (which seems to be the most popular), ravioli, and macaroni. Each of these plates are around 5.5 inches in width. Keep in mind if you decide to grab one (or all three), these dishes are hand-wash only and are not advised to go in the microwave, oven, or dishwasher. So treat them with the care they deserve.

Shoppers are ecstatic about these new plates. “OMG stop, I’m running there tomorrow,” writes one shopper. “The pasta plate is serving,” jokes another. These plates are available in store only, but you can check the Michaels website to see if they are available for store pickup near you.

Along with these pasta plates, Michaels is also selling adorable shallow pasta bowls for those bigger dishes, like caramelized tomato paste pasta or asparagus pasta with lemon and Parmesan. They’re sold at $12.99 a piece, made of ceramic, white on the inside and yellow on the outside. But it isn’t the simplicity of the design that shoppers are loving; it’s the cute graphic inside the bowl that really makes it adorable. Each bowl features a fork swirling pieces of spaghetti wrapped around the utensil, which drags off to the bowl’s edge. The store is also selling cute tomato-shaped plates that are perfect for summer and available to ship.

Needless to say, this Italian Kitchen decor might inspire you to have an Italian-themed summer party, with all of your favorite pasta dishes (or a fried ravioli appetizer!) served in pasta bowls. How on theme!

After almost nine years of working on a merger, it seems Dollar Tree is thinking about cutting ties with Family Dollar. Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling made a recent statement that the company will be hosting a formal review of the businesses and considering the possibility of putting Family Dollar up for sale.

After purchasing Family Dollar in 2015 for more than $8 billion, Dollar Tree has made the decision to explore putting the chain retailer up for sale. Around 8,000 Family Dollar stores across the United States serve lower-income households with products sold at reasonable prices of between $1 and $10. However, after closing more than 900 stores last year — with plans to shut down even more — Dollar Tree’s CEO made a statement that the “unique needs” of the two different stores are difficult to manage, and that the possibility of a sale is on the table.

This announcement comes after Dollar Tree acquired the leases for 170 different 99 Cents Only stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas. The retailer plans on transforming those locations into Dollar Tree stores and selling its own products, effectively ending 99 Cents Only stores. Dollar Tree also announced its plans to expand in-store offerings and elevate its prices, with items costing up to $7, including products in the refrigerated and frozen food section, pet food, and hygienic supplies.

As of May 4, Dollar Tree and its expanded locations with Family Dollar, operate over 16,000 stores across the United States in Canada. According to a statement, Dollar Tree has not set a deadline or a timetable for the “thorough review” it plans on having for its merger to see if it is worth keeping Family Dollar or selling it off. The company is also considering other options, including a spin-off or another disposition of the business.

Sometimes you don’t always have the time to run through a Walmart Supercenter. While having all of those options can be beneficial for a shopper looking for a one-and-done shopping experience, having to make your way through those massive aisles to find the one or two things you need doesn’t make Walmart the most time-efficient store. Even Walmart understands this, which is why the store has 150 Neighborhood Markets across the United States, offering a smaller number of items — like groceries and pharmacy items — for shoppers who need to quickly grab and go. Nevertheless, these stores are still significantly small, which is why Walmart has made the decision to make them a smidgen bigger.

Walmart will expand its Neighborhood Markets by 17,000 square feet, providing customers with an even larger assortment of items they will need. This expansion will create a total selling space of 57,000 square feet and gives the retailer the opportunity to add even more emphasis on its bakery offerings, as well as fresh produce, meat, dairy and hot case options. This new concept is already in the works at two Neighborhood Market locations in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, as well as the Vine City neighborhood in Atlanta. Walmart plans on making these changes to the rest of its Neighborhood Markets within the next five years.

Doesn’t this defeat the purpose of having a smaller store, though? While this change does give these stores a larger footprint, they are still significantly smaller than the average 182,000 square feet of a typical Walmart Supercenter.

According to Walmart’s press release, the vision behind the news is to not only expand its offerings in the fresh departments but to also give shoppers more space to shop with wider aisles. This expansion also allows for dedicated space for pickup and delivery orders, with room for refrigerated goods so the associates can work at a faster pace. Plus, with more options to choose from, this makes the Neighborhood Markets even more desirable for shoppers to go to when running a quick errand for a grocery item.

Now through May 27, Solo Stove’s Memorial Day sale features discounts up to 30% off sitewide. The one fire pit we’ve got our eyes on is the best-selling Bonfire 2.0, down to just $229.99 from the original $299.99 price tag.

The smokeless fire pit is safe for decks, patios, driveways, and even the beach, although you should always take necessary safety precautions and never leave it unattended. The Bonfire comes with a removable base plate and ash pan for convenience and easy cleanup, as well as a carrying case for portability. The fire pit comes in a stainless steel version, which is also the least expensive, as well as a handful of saturated colors, all of which are currently discounted.

While the Bonfire is still an investment on sale, it’s been a worthwhile one for a few editors here at The Kitchn. Former Deputy Editor Kelly Dawson has the Bonfire 2.0 and loves how it amps up the coziness factor in her outdoor space. Contributor Stephanie Ganz has an earlier edition of the Bonfire (aptly called the 1.0) and has been using it for about four years now. She writes that the fire pit has changed how she uses her backyard, especially during spring and summer when she and her family are eating and hanging outside often. Homemade pizza, s’mores — you name it, she’s made it over her Bonfire.

My Saturday mornings always consist of the same routine: Sleep in, pour myself a cup of French press, and make pancakes. Pancakes on a Saturday morning was a tradition in my house growing up, and I honestly have a hard time picturing my weekends starting any other way. However, while it is delightful to make pancakes from scratch, I do find myself reaching for those easy-to-make pancake or waffle mixes you see in stores, especially if they come in different fun flavors. So you can only imagine my excitement when I found out that Trader Joe’s is now selling a Strawberries & Crème Pancake & Waffle Mix to kick off summer at just $3.99 a box.

This Strawberries & Crème Pancake & Waffle Mix makes it easy to whip up a tasty breakfast to serve with all of your freshly picked strawberries this summer. The mix is made with sweetened dried strawberries and white chocolate chips to give it that mix of tangy, creamy flavor. Buttermilk powder is added to make those pancakes and waffles extra fluffy. Vegetable juices are used to give this mix that aesthetically pleasing hint of pink. To whip up this breakfast, all shoppers have to do is add milk, eggs, and oil to this mix, then flip or fry away. Each box will make up to 7 servings, or 14 pancakes with a 4-inch diameter.

While these pancakes would already be tasty with the classic toppings of butter and maple syrup, you can serve a number of other delectable dishes with this mix. Keep it on theme with billowing homemade whipped cream and either fresh or canned strawberries. Trader Joe’s says a waffle sandwich with fried chicken is also particularly delicious with this mix.

Shoppers are already looking forward to stocking their pantries with this new delectable breakfast item. “NEED that waffle mix,” writes one shopper on @traderjoesobsessed’s latest Instagram post. “Oh my gosh yum!” writes another.

Be sure to stock up, though; Trader Joe’s is only offering this Strawberries & Crème Pancake & Waffle Mix for a limited time.

I have a spice rack in my kitchen that I am very, very proud of. All of the little jars are the same size and shape, with matching labels on the lids that make it easy to spot and grab whatever spice or seasoning I need. While this certainly is aesthetically pleasing, the real reason I set up this rack is because I truly hate the plastic bottles that your seasonings come in. They don’t make for a pleasant user experience, and when you go to shake them while you cook, nothing really comes out — or you end up with a huge mess. So I quit the battle and made my own setup. Yet now, after finding out this clever spice jar trick, I’m wondering if all my work to make the perfect spice rack has gone to waste.

Here’s the hack: Instead of shaking that seasoning or spice jar on top of your plate, pot, or pan, twist the lid back and forth. Yes, just like you would with a pepper mill or a salt grinder; you pinch the plastic perforated top with your thumb and pointer finger, gently twist, and the seasoning will come out effortlessly and evenly.

This tip was shared on Instagram by Aaron Turk from @fatsdabarber, who hilariously seasons an empty plate with dried herbs and spices and continues to repeat, “I just learned this today,” as he twists different jars with wide, exasperated eyes. “You could have been twisting the top this whole time,” he says, his voice full of shock and joy.

Fellow home cooks are sharing how “mind-blown” they are in the comments of Turk’s post. “You mean to tell me all that splashing I’ve been doing all these years of cooking, I could have saved myself all the cleaning around the stovetop counter? Oh crap, it works, just tested it,” writes one follower. “I’m sorry for all the mean things I’ve said to my spice jars,” jokes another.

Needless to say, if you’ve been getting arm cramps every time you shake your seasonings and spices — and end up with a messy countertop because of it — we apologize that you only just had to learn this today.

If you’re a frequent Aldi shopper, then you are probably well aware that it’s German week at the discount grocer: The shelves are stocked with all kinds of delicious German goodies. From classics like Bavarian soft pretzels to German-style red cabbage — there’s a lot of new stuff to try over at Aldi this week. But out of all of these treats, we can’t help but drool over one dessert that makes us want to run to the grocery store ASAP: apple strudel!

Now available in the frozen section at Aldi, you can pick up a box of Deutsche Küche Strudel for $3.29 for a box of two strudels. This dessert comes in two flavors: Fruits of the Forest Strudel made with apples and a selection of tart berries, and Apple Strudel filled with apples, raisins, and cinnamon. Each strudel is wrapped in a traditional German flaky puff pastry. They’re perfect for a dessert during date night at home! Just don’t forget to grab a carton of ice cream to pair with it. Or better yet, make your own no-churn ice cream.

Strudel isn’t all Aldi’s German kitchen is celebrating. You can also buy Peanut Butter Puff snacks (shoppers rave about these!) as well as frozen pork and chicken schnitzel, and cheese spaetzle.

If chocolate dessert is more of your thing, you can grab boxes of Strawberry or Orange Jaffa Cakes, bags of Hazelnut Biscuits, boxes of shortbread cookies and chocolate wafers, and Doppel Keks and Doppelinos (sandwich cookies with chocolate in the middle). For more sweets in the frozen section, Indulgent Cakes are also an Aldi frequent favorite, and they come in two flavors: Donauwelle (a “snow white” cake with vanilla, chocolate, and tart cherries) and Bienenstich (a “bee sting” cake with caramelized almonds and vanilla).

So if you’re ready for Oktoberfest in May, Aldi has you covered.

When it comes to dessert, Trader Joe’s always knows how to deliver. Just look at the Chocolate Lava Cakes, Double Chocolate Croissants, and Mini Ice Cream Hold the Cones — the sweet treats at Trader Joe’s do not miss. So, of course, I squealed with joy when I learned about the chain’s latest dessert innovation: a Japanese Soufflé Cheesecake!

Now sold in the freezer section at TJ’s, you can buy a two-pack of Japanese Soufflé Cheesecakes. These crustless cheesecakes are “airy and moist,” making them the perfect light dessert when you want something sweet but not too heavy. They’re made with a mixture of sweet condensed milk and cream cheese, combining to create a light yet rich and creamy texture.

Preparation only requires one step: Thaw the cheesecakes for three hours in the refrigerator. That’s it! Pull them out of the fridge, and voilà! Dessert is served. You can take them to the next level by topping them with homemade blueberry compote or even a salted honey sauce.

You can buy this two-pack of Japanese Soufflé Cheesecakes for $3.29 in the freezer section, but move fast! Trader Joe’s is only offering this dessert for a limited time. If you’re anything like me and love to stock up on your favorite foods before they sell out, I have a feeling you’ll want to make some freezer space to pull out these cheesecakes on those days when you’re craving a little something sweet.

Trader Joe’s shoppers are already stocking up on this sweet treat for later and raving about how good it is over on a @traderjoesobessed Instagram post. “Looks amazing! Can’t wait,” writes one shopper. “OMG I’M RUNNING TO GET THEM,” enthusiastically writes another. “TJ’s did it again,” says a shopper. What else can I say? We’re getting closer and closer to grilling season every day, which means it’s time to start stocking up on all of our favorite grilling essentials. Costco always has my back when it comes to getting my freezer stocked with all of the summer dinner essentials I need, and the store’s latest product drop is one that I absolutely can’t wait to buy: elote-inspired chicken burgers.

Now available at Costco, Amylu is selling their Elote Recipe Charbroiled Chicken Burgers made with roasted corn, jalapeños, and quesadilla cheese. These chicken burgers don’t have any nitrates, they are gluten-free, and are made with chicken that have been raised with no antibiotics. Each pack comes with 10 burgers, and are sold at $13.99. That’s only $1.40 a burger!

We have a feeling these burgers are exactly the kind of thing you’re going to want to have on hand when the summer rolls around. Grill these burgers (or pan-fry them) and slide them onto a brioche bun with fresh veggies and this copycat Big Mac burger sauce. Or keep it on theme and add your favorite elote-inspired ingredients to this sandwich, with a homemade crema and cotija cheese. Feta cheese or grated Parmesan also work well here! And of course, you can’t go wrong with a side of grilled corn with your burger — and a spicy margarita!

If you’re a frequent Costco shopper, then you’re likely already aware that Amylu has quite the selection of products to choose from that make cooking up dinner (and breakfast!) even easier. Throughout the month of May they are putting their iconic Caramelized Onion & White Cheddar Burgers on sale for $14.99 a box. They also sell a variety of chicken sausage and chicken meatballs with a variety of flavors, like Hot Honey meatballs and Apple & Gouda sausages. Their Taco Seasoned Chicken Crumbles are also a Costco shopper-favorite! You can find out if your local Costco (or other retailers!) sells these delicious chicken products on Amylu’s store locator.

I’ve always been a big seafood person; growing up along the coast will do that to a girl. Clams, oysters, lobster, crab, shrimp, scallops…I’m all for it. However, seafood isn’t always the most cost effective protein to buy compared to something like chicken or beef, so I tend to not buy it as often. So when I find a tasty seafood find at a great cost (and requires minimal effort for me to prepare) I can’t help but snag it, and the latest Trader Joe’s frozen Shrimp Scampi is one I’m loving right now.

Sold at $8.99 a box, this Shrimp Scampi is seasoned with garlic and mixed with a lemon butter sauce, made with white wine, lemon juice, and grated Romano cheese. Each box comes with 13-ounces of cooked shrimp that is easy to prepare on the stove top. Technically the box includes three servings of shrimp, but you can easily turn it into a meal for four by adding it with other sides to make it a little more filling. My seafood-loving heart certainly wouldn’t mind eating this Shrimp Scampi on its own, but I also think it will taste great tossed with long pasta like spaghetti or linguine, top it on rice (or maybe this cheesy Parmesan risotto), or serve it with salad and a side of crusty garlic bread. Top it with some fresh parsley and you have yourself a gourmet seafood dinner under $10. I couldn’t ask for anything better, honestly.

We also think this Shirmp Scampi will taste delicious with their limited time organic lemon torchietti pasta, sold at $2.99 a box. To make your weeknight meal even easier, you could toss everything together with the lemon pesto from Trader Joe’s as well. But be sure to stock up now; these items are seasonal and likely won’t be on the shelves for long!

Costco may be known for selling bulk food items at majorly discounted prices, but true Costco shoppers know the store is also the best for finding affordable kitchen needs, such as a double-sided grill and griddle. Needless to say, we’re always on the hunt for the latest Costco kitchen find, and we’re pretty sure the most recent one Costco dropped is one you’re going to want to get your hands on ASAP: a set of beautiful ombre-colored mixing bowls.

These gorgeous ombre bowls come in a set of four with matching lids. (That’s right, lids! It’s already a steal.) They are different shades of blue and come in four different sizes: 1.7-quart, 2.4-quart, 3.6-quart, and 5.1-quart. These BPA-free bowls are made out of 100% melamine, a type of heavyweight durable plastic material. They are dishwasher-safe on the top rack, but are not recommended to use in the microwave or oven. The bowls can nest together for easy storage so they don’t take up too much space in your cabinet. This set is sold for just $18.99.

Not feeling the color blue? Costco is also selling the same set in an ombre of white and gray to blend in with whatever color scheme you have going on in your kitchen right now. Similar to the ombre blue set, the gray set has a darker smaller bowl and each bowl gets lighter in color as they get bigger.

Can’t find this set at your local Costco? Don’t worry, your favorite big-box retailer is also selling these ombre melamine bowl sets online. However, keep in mind the prices may vary and could be more expensive than in the stores; right now we’re seeing $26.99. Also, Walmart has a bowl set that is currently available online so that’s an option as well!
