  • Our Favorite Earbuds for Android Users Are $60 Off

    [ad_1]

Hunting for a fresh pair of earbuds for your Android phone? The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are currently marked down to just $169 at Amazon, a $60 discount from their usual price. I spotted the sale price in three colors, Porcelain, Hazel, and Peony, with Moonstone and Wintergreen already sold out.

    • Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

    • Photograph: Parker Hall

    • Photograph: Parker Hall

The good news is, these sound way better than the previous generation of Pixel Buds Pro, with upgraded drivers and better processing. They have a wide soundstage, particularly for wireless earbuds, that our reviewer Parker Hall says provides an “energetic and joyous listening experience” and handles a variety of genres with grace.

Google made some big improvements to the active noise canceling as well, boosting it to levels that almost match Bose and Sony, the current top tier of ANC. It’s great at filtering out barking dogs and neighbor noises; only high-frequency sounds manage to evade silencing. They have a great transparency mode as well, with a richer sound reproduction than we’re used to seeing on compact earbuds. You’ll get about eight hours of listening with ANC on, and closer to 12 with it off, which beats the Apple AirPods Pro.

While a lot of companies claim to use laser measurements and careful planning on their ergonomics, they often fall short of excellent comfort, but not Google. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are extremely comfortable, particularly for small ears, and have no trouble staying put, thanks to their rounded, flat shape. With an IP54 dust and moisture rating, they’re just as well suited for yoga as they are getting caught in the rain.

They work particularly well with Android phones, which enable a variety of convenience features like easy pairing and multiple connections. All you have to do is open the case near an Android phone and it will ask if you want to pair. The Pixel Buds app provides some extra features as well, but isn’t necessary, particularly since the Gemini AI features are pretty underwhelming.

While these are great for Pixel and other Android owners, there are better options if you have an iPhone, so make sure to swing by our guide and check out our favorite wireless earbuds for other options.

  • Olive green is the colour of the season – here are five stylish ways to wear it

    [ad_1]

If there is one colour that perfectly sums up the relaxed elegance of autumn/winter 2025, it is olive green. Sophisticated, versatile and trendy yet timeless, this shade has become the new neutral of the season. Forget the classic but predictable shades of black or beige, olive green strikes that perfect balance between being low-key and making a statement that makes it irresistible.

Long wool coats, knitwear, leather-effect garments: olive green looks great in any form. Moreover, its ability to adapt to different styles – utilitarian, minimalist or even sophisticated – makes it a safe bet for day-to-day, office or weekend looks.

So, if you were thinking of incorporating it into your closet, here are five very stylish ways to wear olive green, which confirm that this shade is the new must-have for autumn.

    Coats: the smartest investment

This season, the olive green coat has snuck in as the new wardrobe staple. Its neutral tone makes it the perfect garment to pair with other muted but stylish colours: burgundy, beige, off-white, black… This will achieve a sober but elegant result that transcends trends.

Leather (or leather-effect) garments: a modern touch

Olive green leather transforms any outfit into a high-impact look. Leather jackets are the obvious choice, and for good reason. But an olive leather skirt is a strong piece that will add personality. Combined with a shirt or cashmere sweater, these pieces strike a balance between modernity and sophistication.

    Dresses: a low-key style statement

Unsure of what to wear for your upcoming festive season parties? Fear not, an olive green dress will save the day. The colour is rich but not loud, ensuring you look great without risking being overdressed. It’s also a shade of green, which technically makes it appropriate for a Christmas colour palette, just more chic. Combine them with long boots, ballerina flats and everything in between.

Accessories: small details with big impact

If you prefer a subtle nod to the trend, olive green accessories are the perfect choice. Chunky scarves, balaclavas, mittens, bags and knit caps in this shade will add some fun without overpowering the look.

  • I Got Everything I Needed for a Thanksgiving Feast in One Box

    [ad_1]

All of it came shrink-wrapped in its own sections, in little bamboo and/or cardboard boats set into a reusable acacia wood tray. All I had to do was unwrap the sections and arrange the crackers. There are three different board sizes (Classic serves 2-3, Medium serves 4-5, and Large serves 9-10, which I found to be accurate so long as the board is being used as an appetizer and not a meal), as well as holiday themes and customizable cheese numbers and letters. There’s also the option for add-ons like baked brie ($129) or fresh honeycomb ($19). A bargain it is not, but if you’re looking to take some of the stress out of Thanksgiving meal planning, this is sure to be a hit. Kat Merck

More Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Sides and Boxes

We haven’t yet tried the Thanksgiving items below, but these are some options from meal kits I’ve tried and can recommend.

    Courtesy of Green Chef

Organic Thanksgiving: Green Chef (Subscribers Only)

For preorder between October 31 and November 11, Green Chef subscribers can sign up to get organic sides and pasture-raised turkey delivered as à la carte meal kit items. This includes a 10-to 12-pound pasture-raised turkey for $70, or an assortment of sides: cranberry brioche stuffing, orange-cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, maple butternut squash, and broccoli gratin.

À la Carte Thanksgiving: Blue Apron Thanksgiving (Starts November 17, No Subscription Needed)

Blue Apron, one of the OG meal kits in the US, has undergone a wholesale transformation this year. One of the biggest changes is that subscriptions are no longer required, and à la carte meal ordering is possible—indeed, it’s now my favorite no-subscription meal kit offering. What this means is that for this Thanksgiving, you’ll be able to order individual Thanksgiving dishes to prep fresh at home.

WIRED plans to try these meals in advance when available, but individual meal kit delivery dishes will include roasted turkey breast with gravy and fresh cranberry sauce, a rosemary herb stuffing, brown butter mashed potatoes with white cheddar, breadcrumb mac and cheese, and apple crumb pie. Ordering goes live November 17 and runs through December 29.

A Big Thanksgiving Smorgasbord: Marley Spoon (Subscription Required)

You’ll have to sign up for a meal kit subscription (likely at a hefty discount), but Martha Stewart–endorsed meal kit Marley Spoon offers maybe more Thanksgiving items than any meal kit I’ve seen, pickable from the menu as meal kit items. This includes an ungodly array of pies and tarts, viands from ham to duck to turkey to beef roast, an entire Thanksgiving brunch, you name it. Here’s the November 17 advance menu, with 30 Thanksgiving options. Marley Spoon is my favorite meal kit, where cooking and recipe acumen are concerned: I haven’t tried these individual dishes, but if you’re in the market for a home Thanksgiving meal kit, November might be a good time to subscribe.

Another Big Thanksgiving Box, From HelloFresh (Subscriber Only, Starts November 16)

You’ll have to be a subscriber (at least for the week!), but meal plan HelloFresh is offering a Thanksgiving feast that’ll serve eight to 10 people for $180, available through the HelloFresh Market. This will include a whole roast turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy, brioche stuffing with cranberries, apple crisp, ginger-braised carrots with pecans. These dishes are also available à la carte, alongside other sides.

    Prepared Meal Thanksgiving: Factor (Subscriber-Only)

Ready-to-eat meal company Factor offers a fully prepared, ready-to-heat Thanksgiving meal option for two, for couples who don’t want to make a multi-course meal just for themselves. It’ll be available November 22 at a $37 upcharge for existing Factor subscribers. The feast for two offers sliced sous-vide turkey breast, mashed potatoes, mushroom green beans, butternut smoked gouda mac and cheese, and a slice of pumpkin spice cheesecake.

The fall and winter months mean you must get more creative when wearing dresses and skirts. After all, it drops to freezing outside, and your legs will be exposed. The solution is easy thanks to the Joyspun Sheer Fleece Tights at Walmart. They’re specifically designed to keep you even warmer than regular tights.

These fleece-lined tights are available in sizes small to 3XL. They’re made of 89% nylon and 11% spandex, so there’s plenty of stretch. They come in beige and rich tan shades, but both are designed to look sheer. Instead of your legs coming through underneath, it’s really the fleece showing. (Don’t worry! We won’t tell.)

Get the Joyspun Sheer Fleece Tights for $12 at Walmart!

Just like your current favorite tights, the Joyspun pair has a flattering high-waisted design to smooth out your midsection. Plus, the footed design offers a consistent appearance under clothes and shoes to keep everything in place. And when they get dirty, they’re safe to toss in the washing machine for easy cleaning.

Shoppers appreciate these slip-on tights for being stretchy, warm and not too tight. These are only available at Walmart — and you can’t beat the $12 price tag!

“These leggings are nice, thick and cozy!” writes one five-star reviewer. “The fleece is so, so soft and hugs your figure so well! It doesn’t get too hot in it. I love that it covers your toes, since my feet always get cold in the winter.”

“These are very great for fall, and they are very stretchy,” says one happy shopper. “These tights were true to size. I had no problem getting in and out of these. They were very thick and not thin like most.”

The next time you’re getting dressed for a special occasion this season, you’ll be thankful you’ll basically feel like you’re wearing pants for all-day comfort.

  • Live TV Isn’t Dead. These Are the Best Live TV Streaming Services

    [ad_1]

I won’t mince words: Sling TV is confusing. It has, by far, the most confusing lineup of plans and add-ons out of any of the live TV streaming services I tested. There are a handful of core plans, none of which encompass the scale of Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, or DirecTV, as well as about half a dozen add-ons to bring the channel roster up to par. This modular approach is annoying while shopping, though it also means you can save quite a bit of money by only picking up what you need.

The core of Sling is Blue and Orange. The Blue plan focuses on news and entertainment, while the Orange plan cuts news like MSNBC and CNN in favor of an array of ESPN channels. It’s clear Sling wants folks to pick up the Orange & Blue plan that combines these channel lineups. It’s about 30 percent cheaper getting them together than it is purchasing them separately (and about $30 cheaper than most other providers).

The Orange & Blue plan, which I recommend for most people, covers the major bases, but it loses out on some of the secondary channels available elsewhere. For instance, you get ESPN channels and Fox Sports 1, but not Fox Sports 2 or the Big Ten Network. You’ll need an add-on for those.

Most of Sling’s add-ons are $6 extra per month, minus the sports add-on, which is $15. The add-ons fill in the gaps depending on what you’re most interested in. The entertainment add-on includes Cartoon Network and MTV, for instance, while the movies add-on comes with Grit, TCM, and FXX. You can pick up all of the extras for $27 per month with Blue & Orange or $21 per month with other plans. Even with the full package, however, Sling comes in a few dollars below YouTube TV and Hulu Live TV, and there are opportunities to get your monthly price even lower by cutting some packages.

For apps, Sling has just about everything you could want. Roku, Samsung, LG, Apple, and Google TV are all supported, as are boxes from Cox, Xfinity, and even TiVo Stream. Mobile apps are available, and there’s an app for the Xbox (though not the PlayStation 5).

Although not as responsive as YouTube TV, the app felt smooth on my TCL QM8K. You can create profiles, see upcoming games, and favorite channels in the guide so they’re easy to find.

  • The LiberNovo Omni Office Chair Has a Built-in Battery for Motorized Lumbar Adjustments

    [ad_1]

The Omni looks nice. It’s a step up from your average office chair design, with a bit of class and a design language on the backrest that resembles the spine-like look of the Herman Miller Embody. It comes in Midnight Black or Space Gray (creative names), and my unit is the latter. The company says the Omni can support people up to 300 pounds.

I don’t think I’ve sat on an office chair with softer padding than the Omni. The multi-density sponge cushion material of the seat and backrest is plush without feeling like you’re sinking in, because it isn’t super thick. It’s very comfortable, and the softness of the material is still what surprises me the most about the Omni after sitting on it for weeks.

It’ll be interesting to see how the fabric holds up after more than a year of use. So far, it still looks great after close to a month of sitting, though it likes to collect hair. It’s hard to gauge breathability as we’re now in the cooler months, but my back feels a little warm after a few hours on the chair. If you’re in a hot environment, you’ll likely feel sweaty. It’s not as bad as the vegan leather-covered foam on most gaming chairs, but it won’t offer the breathability of a true mesh.

The armrests aren’t much to write home about—you can move them up or down, forward and back, and angle them inward or outward. You can’t push them toward or away from your body like on the Embody, but this is standard for a chair at this price (which is $1,099 MSRP, though the company seems to have a persistent sale of $848). I appreciate that the arms don’t easily shift or slide around, which is a common problem with many chairs. The armrest itself isn’t too hard, and the material feels fairly durable.

    A Battery-Powered Chair

    Photograph: Julian Chokkattu

The Bionic FlexFit Backrest is the Omni’s highlight, which uses the battery-powered ErgoPulse Motor System for configuration. It’s essentially a motorized way to ensure the backrest lines up perfectly against your back; no need to fiddle around with an awkward lumbar support. There are three buttons on the left armrest. The front two shift the backrest support up or down, and the third is a spinal massage function, which I’ll address later.

  • I’ve Tested Every Photo Frame. This Is the Most Realistic-Looking One Yet

    [ad_1]

Aura has been trying for years to get us to mount its frames. The Aura’s first frame back in 2017, the Aura Classic, was wall-mountable, and then Aura’s latest frames, like the Aura Aspen, have had a flat, wall-mountable design. But the downside was the cord running below it for all of these models, which takes away from the clean gallery-wall design it’s otherwise well-suited for, and limits the locations it can be hung.

Now, with the Aura Ink’s truly cordless design, it’s possible to hang it without any cord clutter. The 13-inch screen makes it a little larger than the 12-inch Aura Aspen but smaller than the 15-inch Walden, and is a nice size for hanging. The Ink comes with a little mounting kit of two nails and a small hook that the digital frame clicks into, and it can easily click back off for charging (the charging port is on the side if your hanging spot is near an outlet). I was able to hang it on one of my existing pushpins without issue, and the frame easily blended into my existing gallery wall.

Overall, it’s an impressive feat of technology, though I wouldn’t call it perfect. I’d like to see the front light get a little brighter. It’s considerably more expensive than other digital photo frames, too. But as I look at it on my gallery wall, I have to say that if you didn’t already know it was digital, you’d likely have no idea. If you’re looking for a frame like that for your home, this is the one to get.

  • I Can’t Help Feeling Like a Creep Wearing Meta’s New Gen 2 Glasses

    [ad_1]

As I wore them on one of my walks through San Francisco, on the shore of Ocean Beach, I came upon a dolphin-like fish that had washed up on the sand. Though I got my camera glasses close enough to the thing that I could smell it, Meta’s AI assistant could not tell me what kind of animal it was. It correctly identified that it was very dead and that I should not touch it. It was then able to direct me to a number to call for city animal control services.

Beyond instances like that, I tend to avoid the AI voice interaction because I haven’t gotten to the point where it feels natural. Getting it to search something is usually very quick, but doing so requires you to stop dead in your tracks, stare directly at another person’s purse or something, and say out loud, “Hey Meta. HEY META. Is this bag Gucci?”

The glasses’ AI features are both its best asset and biggest weakness. Features like live language translation and whispered map directions are very helpful. But if you’ve spent any time curating the AI slop out of your Facebook feed lately, you’ll know that Meta just can’t help pack a firehose blast of AI features into everything it does.

The software features are funneled through the same app as Meta’s AI services. That’s where pictures and videos go by default, and sometimes you have to go into the app to import the files from the glasses. There’s a very clear problem with using the app: bad vibes.

    The Vibes Are Off

When you go into the Meta AI app to look at the pictures or videos you’ve taken, the first thing you’ll see is Meta’s terrible new Vibes service. It’s a constant barrage of AI slop videos that Meta just one day foisted upon its app users. Vibes is akin to OpenAI’s dubious Sora app, but somehow even worse quality.

Taylor Swift‘s wardrobe is like a time capsule filled with stylish gems that surpass the seasons. After digging through style archives, we came across a look the Grammy winner styled in 2023 and couldn’t help but swoon over the fisherman-style Mary Jane loafers she wore. Unfortunately, Swift’s $183 G.H Bass Weejun loafers sold out, but we found a pair on Amazon with a similar charm for less.

Fans of chunky dad shoes, your time has come. The Coutgo Slip-On loafers feature a vintage T-strap design for a classic touch. The cut-out design mirrors Swift’s sold-out silhouette. Featuring gold hardware along the strap, these shoes are made from comfy faux leather and have a rubber sole.

She’s actually just an average girl who loves wearing comfy, slouchy jeans. Swift recently strayed from the glitz and glamour of her most recent album in […]

Along with a celeb-approved design, these shoes are ultra-comfy too. With a flat heel sole and round toe design, you’ll feel comfortable styling these shoes when you’re on the go.

Swift styled her look with a puff-sleeve eyelet blouse and a denim mini skort, but there are so many ways to dress these shoes up. Pair them with jeans and a stretchy turtleneck for a casual yet refined outfit. Prefer a look that fits an office environment? Opt for trousers and a collared blouse.

“These Coutgo Women’s Slip On Loafers are a fantastic choice for professional settings where comfort is key,” one five-star fan wrote. “The T-strap design adds a touch of classic elegance, making them dressy enough for the office or business casual events. They’re easy to slip on, saving time, and the overall design is both stylish and practical.”

“These black loafers are a great mix of classic and modern,” another fan raved. “The leather is a matte black, and while I usually prefer a shinier black, the buckle detail gives them a stylish upgrade. The leather finish keeps them looking professional. They’re very comfortable to wear all day, whether with pants or skirts.”

Don’t wait to shop this Swift-approved silhouette. They’re so popular on Amazon that three of the seven shades are currently unavailable! Thankfully, you can still snag them in dark brown, black, brown and wine red in sizes 6 through 11.

  • Here’s Why You Should (or Shouldn’t) Dunk Yourself In a Full Body Ice Bath

    [ad_1]

Cold plunging at the gym or having a chilly shower at home has become a popular practice in recent years. But is all the self-inflicted freezing really that good for you? With the promise of boosting your mood, providing mental clarity, and reducing muscle soreness post-workout, it may sound enticing, but it’s not for everyone. Aside from making your teeth chatter, there are the notable negatives as well as its positives to consider.

Tasked with the challenge of testing the latest cold-plunge pools earlier this year, I reluctantly jumped on the bandwagon. With my adrenaline pumping and my endorphins having a disco post-plunge, I was hooked and have since became an ice bath advocate. But as with every wellness craze, it’s worth keeping up with the ever-changing advice on best practices. Keen to find out more, I asked Gary Brecka, top biohacker and founder of The Ultimate Human, for advice on how to cold plunge for maximum benefit.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newbie wondering what all the fuss is about, take a deep, calming breath and jump right in. Find options for your own ice bath in the WIRED guide to the best cold-plunge tubs, with designs from the likes of PolarMonkeys, CalmMax, Plunge, and more.

    Jump to Section

    What Is Cold Plunging?

Whether it’s in the sea, a lake, or an ice bath at your local gym or at home, cold plunging means immersing your body in water that is 39 to 59 defrees Fahrenheit (4 to 15 Celsius). If you don’t have a gym membership and don’t fancy stripping down to your bathing suit at the local lake, an indoor bathtub filled with icy cold water will do. “You don’t need an expensive set up,” says Brecka. “A bathtub with ice works. A horse trough in the backyard works. Dedicated plunge pools are convenient, but you’ll get benefits no matter how you create cold exposure. It’s consistency that matters more than equipment.”

So how long do you cold plunge and what temperature should a cold plunge be? Brecka suggests two to six minutes as the ideal time. It’s long enough to activate the nervous system and short enough to stay safe. If you’re new to cold plunging, however, under a minute is plenty.

Is Cold Plunging Good for You?

“What are the benefits of cold plunging?” is the million dollar question you’re probably asking yourself, right as you’re staring into the tub (along with “Why don’t you just have a warm cookie and hot chocolate instead?” which is what I often hear my inner child say.) Brecka suggests persevering for maximum benefit.

“We do a plunge because cold exposure activates your nervous system, improves circulation, and helps your body adapt to stress,” he says. “Cold plunging is not about powering through the shock, it’s about letting that shock drive physiological change.”

Some studies show benefits for cold plunging, including from Harvard Medical School. While those studies are encouraging, however, they are not conclusive, and their effects vary considerably across the board.

  • These Korean vitamin C serums plump & brighten without any irritation

    [ad_1]

“I’m a sucker for a formula that targets multiple concerns at once. Apart from its incredibly adorable packaging (signature to the Glow Recipe aesthetic), I was immediately drawn to its clever formulation that combines a trio of brightening and resurfacing ingredients. My skin felt instantly rejuvenated, and I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t result in any inflammation or unwanted sensitivity whenever I was dealing with yet another PCOS-related breakout,” says Primbet.

    6. Best for Dark Spots: Haruharu Wonder 4% TXA Dark Spot Go Away Serum

haruharu wonder 4% TXA Dark Spot Go Away Serum

    • Pros: Features centella asiatica, making it a great option for sensitive skin; a triple mix of tranexamic acid, niacinamide and vitamin C delivers impressive results
    • Cons: Not fragrance-free

Korean skin care truly shines at being gentle yet effective, and this formula from Haruharu wonder is proof. Formulated with potent 4% tranexamic acid, this antioxidant-rich serum is a great option for most skin types, particularly acne-prone skin. This hardworking brightening hero helps fade away post-acne marks and prevents any further inflammation. Apart from tranexamic acid, this formula is also infused with vitamin C and niacinamide to help maximise the brightening benefits and promote a more even-looking skin tone. Complete with centella asiatica (also known as “cica”), this innovative face serum will also soothe the skin and help repair your damaged skin barrier, making it a natural fit for those of us with sensitive skin.

    7. Best Potent Formula: COSRX Pure Vitamin C 23% Serum with Vitamin E & Hyaluronic Acid

Image may contain: Bottle, and Ink Bottle

COSRX Pure Vitamin C 23% Serum

    • Pros: Features a potent 29% concentration of pure vitamin C; feels nourishing on the skin; reveals dewy glass-like skin
    • Cons: May not be suitable for sensitive skin types. The brand specifies that you will need a patch test prior to committing to using it regularly

If you’re someone who’s looking for a stronger, more potent vitamin C serum, look no further than this formulation from Cosrx, a coveted Korean skin care brand that’s widely recognized for its simple yet effective ingredients. Offering a 23% concentration of pure vitamin C, this formula delivers some serious brightening benefits, resulting in a more even-looking complexion and faded hyperpigmentation. Plus, it’s also infused with vitamin E to slow down long-term skin damage as well as hyaluronic acid to ensure lasting hydration and an improvement to fine lines and wrinkles. That said, since it’s a strong formula, the brand does recommend performing a patch test prior to using it regularly as it could also result in irritation or sensitized skin. Use it as part of your morning routine alongside your trusty SPF and a moisturizer.

Your Korean Vitamin C serum FAQs, answered:

What are the benefits of using vitamin C?

“Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) is a powerful antioxidant that is proven to not only protect against skin damage but also reverse some of the existing damage that has already been caused by oxidative stress—the process that damages cells, proteins, and DNA, resulting in premature skin aging, loss of collagen, pigmentation, and the formation of lines and wrinkles,” says Dr. Hall.

Some of its many benefits also include “its ability to brighten skin, even out hyperpigmentation, and stimulate collagen production,” says Cho.

According to Cho, “Vitamin C has been growing in popularity in Korean skin care, but the approach is different from Western formulation. K-beauty has introduced many L-ascorbic (pure vitamin C) acid formulations that are more potent and effective but difficult to stabilise with exposure to light and oxygen. That said, they have made progress on making L-asborbic vitamin C formulations to be more shelf stable in recent years.”

“In terms of formulation, Korean vitamin C serums will be lighter and more hydrating. K-beauty places its biggest focus on the skin barrier—restoring, maintaining, and repairing it—so formulations tend to be gentler. This is achieved through the use of milder, more stable forms of vitamin C,” says Dr. Hall.

How should I use a Korean vitamin C serum?

“Vitamin C is best used in the morning because of its antioxidant properties, which help protect the skin from environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution,” says Cho.

As far as application goes, Dr. Hall recommends using it on freshly cleansed skin or after applying toner (or Korean toner): “Allow a few minutes for it to soak in before applying your other skin care ingredients. Once soaked, vitamin C has been shown to remain active in the skin for between 8 and 24 hours post-application.”

Is there a difference between ampoules and serums in Korean skin care?

“Ampoules are known as boosters and are more concentrated versions of serums: i.e. the amount of active ingredient in the product will be higher. While most serums are designed to be used once (if not twice) a day, ampoule-style products are designed for using once or twice a week, which is why the packaging size will be smaller,” says Dr. Hall.

Cho also points out that “some Korean brands blur the lines between the two,” so it’s important to pay attention to how the product is labeled and take note of the recommended directions in order to avoid overwhelming your skin.

  • The Best Rain Jackets to Help You Brave the Elements

    [ad_1]

Every time I slip on a rain jacket, I give thanks that we no longer have to wrap ourselves in thick, smelly sealskin to stay dry. The best rain jackets today are more comfortable and watertight than ever, thanks to advances in weatherproof textiles and apparel design. But depending on the climate and your level of activity, sorting through different styles, technologies, and waterproof ratings can be confusing.

Every year, I test dozens of rain jackets through the soggy Pacific Northwest winter. I hike, bike, run, and walk my dogs—sometimes I even stand in the shower with my clothes on when the weather isn’t cooperating. I also got advice from Amber Williams, a professor at Brigham Young University who has been an expert on outdoor product design. All to find the rain jackets worth your time and money.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of our outdoor coverage, including the Best Puffer Jackets, Best Merino Wool Clothes, and Best Hoodies. If you want a more in-depth explanation for what these terms mean (like, what’s hydrostatic head?) we have a fabric explainer here.

    Table of Contents

Updated November 2025: We added the Arc’teryx Beta SL, the Lolë Piper 2.0, the Páramo Velez Adventure Smock, the Helly Hansen utility rain coat, the North Face Antora, the North Face Mountain Parka, the Finisterre Stormbird, and the Rab Firewall Alpine and Phantom.

    Best Overall

    Photograph: Adrienne So

Every year, I try to find another jacket that beats the Arc’teryx Beta SL for roominess and dryness, and it’s just impossible. Despite its extravagant price, this is the jacket that I always end up reaching for when an atmospheric river starts pouring through Portland. This is Arc’teryx’s lightest rain shell. It has Gore-Tex’s latest fabric innovation, called ePE (expanded polyethylene)—it’s a breathable, waterproof membrane laminated to a nylon face that’s also free of carcinogenic perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and has a hydrostatic head (HH) rating of 28,000, which is pretty incredible (the standard is around 10,000). When it comes to rainwear, I sacrifice sustainability in favor of not getting wet—being cold and wet really sucks and could be life-threatening in the wrong situation. But this jacket has kept me dry through the bugging-est out, sideways-pouring rain.

Features-wise, the hood is big enough for my hair (or a helmet, if your hair is smaller than my hair), with adjustable cuffs and pit zips (very important for activity!). And unlike many other jackets, the women’s version has plenty of space for my shoulders and arms to move freely for biking, hiking, and moving heavy objects. If you’re only getting one rain jacket, it should be this one.

    Best Rain Jacket for Women

    • Photograph: Adrienne So

    • Photograph: Adrienne So

I love this rain jacket. I was walking in the city with my friend (in the rain) when a truck suddenly went through a puddle right next to us on the road and covered me head to toe, Sex and the City-style. This jacket kept me dry. Its waterproofing specs are average—it uses a carbon-based, durable water repellent and has a HH rating of 10K, which is about half the waterproofing of what some of our other picks have—but I really like its design features.

I’m 5’2″ and it’s long enough to cover my shins. You can button the cuffs to prevent water from running down the sleeves. It has multiple (huge) pockets for all your random walking-around needs, with both zippered and open options. The fit is incredibly loose for layering—why don’t more outdoor brands do this? I’m very small on the bell curve of humanity, but I shouldn’t need to size up to men’s medium to get a size loose enough for layering! Most importantly, it packs up into its own small, self-contained backpack with straps so you can hang it on a wall when you get to the party instead of leaving a giant, soaking garment to hang from a hook and drip all over everything.

★ Alternative: If you’re not trying to stay dry for hours while outside and you also like a feature-rich rain jacket with big pockets, I like the Helly Hansen utility rain coat ($200), which also covers a lot of your body and has a lot of pocket options.

    Best Rubber Rain Jacket

Image may contain: Clothing, Coat, Jacket, and Raincoat

    Photograph: Adrienne So

Since the 1960s, modern rainwear has relied on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), or “forever chemicals”, to waterproof clothing. Modern durable water repellents (DWRs) use PFAS in manufacturing, which then migrate from your clothing into soil and streams as you tromp around outside. Today, many companies are reducing the levels of PFAS in their products, probably because states are banning these chemicals.

The best way to make sure you don’t have PFAS in your coat is to go with a classic rubber raincoat, like Stutterheim’s Stockholm raincoat. Technical rain jacket manufacturers tend to shy away from polyurethane because it’s, well, rubbery. But the material is durable, long-lasting, windproof, waterproof, and PFAS-free. I also prefer rubber rain jackets in damp coastal climates, like the Pacific Northwest. Breathability is less of a sticking point when the air is already humid.

  • Laser Tag! These Powerful Golf Rangefinders Will Put You Back in the Game.

    [ad_1]

Rangefinders can include a slew of features, which makes shopping as a novice confusing. The most important options in our testing include slope measurement (elevation gained or lost), a pinspotter (which zeroes in on the pin when tracking), weatherproofing, tournament mode, a cart magnet, and last but definitely not least, image stabilization.

Other handy options from some of our favorites include an OLED display for a bright targeting overlay, and Bluetooth connectivity to pair with apps or other golf devices, such as a smartwatch for GPS data. The fancier you get, the more features you’ll find, including options like wind speed and direction, element compensation, and more. That said, there is such a thing as too much data, and you’ll usually pay a premium as the feature count goes up.

  • You Can Ride the Lectric XP4 for Over 50 Miles and Fit It In Your Car Trunk

    [ad_1]

    Photograph: Michael Venutolo-Mantovani

Granted, this is probably only the case for big people like me (6’ 4”, 255 pounds, and with very broad shoulders) and it might not even register for average-sized people. In fact, at 6’ 4”, I’m an inch too big for the XP4, at least according to the brand, which says the bike fits riders 4’ 10” to 6’ 3”. But that extra inch feels negligible, as, over my first 150 miles on the bike, my legs have yet to feel hemmed in by my saddle height.

Speaking of that saddle, the bike’s seat post features an integrated suspension coil, offering 40 mm of travel. While, in theory, some rear suspension is welcome, I felt as though, every time the coil compressed, it was actually my seat tube slipping down into the frame. It was a strange sensation and one I must admit that, some 200 miles into riding the bike, I haven’t quite gotten used to.

Something else I don’t love about the XP4 is its old-school, one-sided kickstand. A bike of this heft should feature a motor-scooter-style stand that retracts from beneath the bottom-bracket, giving even support to both sides of the machine. The one-sided kickstand, however, often finds itself (and me!) fighting gravity when I’m trying to lock the bike up on anything resembling an incline.

All told, those very few shortcomings are hardly enough to make me not love the XP4 750, as it’s smooth ride, extra-long range, handsome design, and litany of aftermarket add-ons make this a bike I would commute with for a long, long time.

  • Gear News of the Week: Withings Launches Its Pee Scanner, and Samsung Shows Off a Trifold Phone

    [ad_1]

A few weeks ago, bathroom and plumbing company Kohler debuted the Dekoda, a health and wellness sensor that lives on your toilet bowl and records signs of your gut health and hydration. Now, Withings has launched the U-Scan. First shown at CES in 2023, the U-Scan also sits inside the toilet bowl. A thermal sensor detects when a fresh, er, sample is being deposited. The U-Scan takes a small sample and analyzes it on-site with miniature biochemical sensors inside an interchangeable cartridge.

There are two separate U-Scans. U-Scan Nutrio analyzes your diet, checking for biomarkers like bio-acidity, hydration status, and ketone levels, which shows that you’ve started burning body fat instead of sugar. U-Scan Calci also checks for calcium, which is a sign that you might have kidney stones. Results are then transmitted via Wi-Fi to the Withings app.

The cartridges are replaceable, and the sensor comes with a docking station to clean and recharge the sensor. Purchasing the U-Scan comes with a complimentary subscription to Withings+, the company’s upgraded app, which also includes a free consultation with a nutritionist.

The U-Scan packages start at $380, which comes with one U-Scan, either Nutrio or Calci, one cartridge, and two to four scans weekly (each cartridge lasts about 2.5 months). For more intensive monitoring, the Intensive package includes two cartridges for five to seven weekly measurements. Replacement cartridges are $100 for one cartridge or $180 for two, and Withings sends you the cartridge automatically depending on which package you select. The U-Scan is now available at Withings.com. We’ll be testing it soon. —Adrienne So

Samsung Brings Its Browser to Windows, and Teases a Trifold Phone

Samsung has long offered its own browser on its smartphones—Samsung Internet—but now the app is finally available on another platform: Windows. Considering Samsung makes Windows laptops and Android phones, this move allows folks who use the company’s browser to share their browsing history and bookmarks between phone and laptop, and if you have saved passwords with Samsung Pass, you can use it to autofill passwords on websites.

The company is taking this opportunity to bring some Galaxy AI features over as well, including Browsing Assist, which lets you instantly summarize webpages or translate them to another language. Samsung says its browser also blocks third-party web trackers, and there’s a Privacy Dashboard that lets you see what has been blocked.

Samsung Internet for PC is only available as a beta right now, but anyone in the US or South Korea on Windows 11 or Windows 10 (version 1809 and above) can download it now.

  • The street style set are all wearing this skirt trend for autumn/ winter

    [ad_1]

Yes, fashion trends are fun to follow, but as any seasoned style enthusiast knows, true personal style isn’t dictated by the fleeting rhythm of the runway. It’s about knowing which trends work for you — and effortlessly weaving them into your existing wardrobe. The standout piece for Autumn/Winter 2025? The suede skirt.

If you’re sceptical, just take a glance at the street style from the recent fashion week circuit, where soft, velvety leather skirts — in every shape and shade imaginable — were spied on the chicest of women.

Now, if you’ve been keeping up with fashion’s current obsessions (or frequently find yourself scrolling the new in section of your favourite stores), you’ll know that the love for suede extends far beyond skirts. From jackets to boots to bags, the fuzzy leather fabric is topping the wishlists of stylish women and men across the globe — and selling out at a surprisingly swift pace. In fact, compiling this suede skirt shopping guide was no easy feat; some of the chicest pieces vanished before I could even hit save.

But what is it about suede that’s sparking such attention? For one, it’s a timeless wardrobe investment that will actually last in your collection for longer than one lifetime (a useful thought to keep in mind when choosing which pieces to invest in). And, simply, suede is particularly versatile: warmer than denim, softer than lacquered leather, and endlessly easy to style. Pair it with a fine knit and knee-high boots for day, a crisp shirt and trench coat for office polish, or a buttoned down cardigan and kitten heeled slingbacks for evening. Plus, let’s be honest, no fabric says Autumn/Winter quite like suede.

Interestingly, however, if you scan the Autumn/Winter 25 runways, you won’t find suede skirts dominating the line-ups. Instead, designers including Prada, Miu Miu, Versace and McQueen championed them earlier in the year for the Spring/Summer season, but the cleverest dressers knew to wait. After all, while suede may be timeless, it’s hardly ideal for balmy temperatures — no one wants a sweat-inducing skirt, thank you very much. Now that cooler days have arrived, the moment feels just right.

So, if you’re ready to step into suede season, below you’ll find my fashion editor-approved edit of the best suede skirts to invest in now — from midi to mini to maxi, in pencil, A-line and pleated cuts, across both neutral hues and standout shades. The only question left is: will you be going real or faux?

ICYMI: We’ve also found the best suede jackets, as well as the best suede bags, just in case you’re really feeling the fabric.
