But I can’t blame myself for wanting to try the latest trends—I am a fashion editor, after all. That said, I’ve turned over a new leaf in recent times, as I’ve grown tired of finding myself retiring items I’ve only worn once or twice.     Myer’s Brisbane CBD store is giving customers the chance to save big, offering huge discounts ahead of its closure next month.

    The Queen St location will be dropping prices across the board each week in the lead-up to its final day of trading on July 31.

    Already reduced stock is currently discounted by 30 per cent and will increase to 50 per cent off in the coming weeks.

    Full price items will be heavily discounted closer the store’s final day.

    Myer Brisbane store manager Lee Dougan said the mammoth sale was a way to say thank you to its loyal customers.

    “After 35 years of serving our loyal customers at our Queen Street store, to say thank you to them, we are clearing all stock with rare savings on huge brands that you just won’t see anywhere else,” he said.

    “So in the lead up to the end of the July, make sure you get into store to take advantage of offers that simply won’t be repeated anywhere else, and that are only while stocks last.”

    Three locations in the CBD have been shortlisted for a new Myer store and the existing centre on Queen St will rebrand on July 1.

    Everyone has had a questionable online shopping moment: It’s late at night, you’re having fun with your friends, things go a little too far, and before you know if you’re calling up Cameron Crowe to see if he’s ever considered following up We Bought a Zoo with a sequel called We Bought a Decommissioned Staten Island Ferry Boat and Oh My God Now What?

    Pete Davidson has (kind of) explained the purchase he and Colin Jost made with comedy club owner Paul Italia by saying that “we were very stoned” when they bought the allegedly roach-and-asbestos-infested boat for $280,100 back in January 2022.

    Speak for yourself, Jost recently added, with what we imagine was the deepest of sighs.

    “Is it worse that I was actually stone-cold sober when we bought the ferry?” he asked in an Instagram post on Wednesday that featured a headline referencing Davidson’s explanation.

    Honestly, the vibe is that in his heart of hearts, he knows the answer to the question. Colin, do you need a hug? A nice glass of cold seltzer and a quiet place to sit for a few minutes?

    While Davidson seems to be actively praying for someone to sink the behemoth boat he and Jost bought and then christened Titanic 2, Jost, in his caption, said, “We’re excited to prove the non-believers wrong. You’re going to be BEGGING to get on this ferry in two years. Mark my words.” In the past, the pals, who worked together on Saturday Night Live, have mentioned plans to turn the ferry into a floating comedy venue. They have also mentioned that this would be very expensive, to say the least. 

    So it makes sense that Jost’s third item on the Instagram caption agenda reads, “UNRELATED I’m going on a Ferry Money Tour this week and next week.” He helpfully designed a poster for the mini-tour, featuring the bright-orange boat in the same carousel, then later shared a more tasteful fan-made poster for the shows. Graphic design does appear to be his passion. Sorry, comedy, and big ups to “izzy whoever you are.”

    Since our last coverage of the only ship more delightful than friendship, where Davidson admitted he had no idea where the ferry was currently moored, multiple Staten Island locals have reached out to offer boat intel, telling us that it is at a boat repair place along the island’s Kill Van Kull, and it has not yet sunk. A big thank you to our ferry godparents: Pete may not know where his boat is, but now we do.

    Visibility has always been a double-edged sword. On one side, it’s been incredible to witness how the world, and by extension, the fashion industry, has begun to advocate for change. From the call to action to support LGBTQ+ brands to ensuring the next generation of talent has a chance to get in the door, the industry has made immense strides in the right direction over the past few years. But on the flip side, there’s the boom of often inauthentic marketing tactics for Pride Month. Every brand wants to stay relevant, so they’re willing to drop rainbow-adorned pieces to be a part of the conversation without making regular contributions to organizations such as The Trevor Project and ACLU or supporting legislation that protects our civil liberties.  

    Don’t get me wrong. I love a color moment just as much as the next person and will always be an ally waving that flag. So what’s the best way to actually support the community? In my mind, there’s no chicer way to do so than by first making regular donations to organizations and then supporting LGBTQ+ fashion designers. You don’t have to buy another cliché T-shirt (unless you want to); there are so many fabulous designers creating great pieces that can be worn and shopped year-round.

    This is personally my absolute favorite setting spray. My skin is soooo so oily some days it looks like I rubbed Popeyes chicken on my face. This spray keeps me matte and keeps my makeup in place ALL 👏 DAY 👏. Like, even after brunch in DC (if you’re from DC you know brunch is an all day event) my makeup looks absolutely perfect.     Reviewers swear these don’t even have a break-in period, making them a great pickup for that last-minute outdoorsy trip where hiking and rough terrain are on the docket. Note that it’s recommended to go up a half size in these boots to accommodate thicker hiking socks, and I found that to be true when I picked up these shoes myself — I’m normally an 8 but found an 8.5 in these to be totally comfortable. I also found that they hold up well even on my first hike — though I did admittedly still have some soreness around my heel area, this was after a hard, 7+-mile hike with lots of rocks and climbing, so I don’t blame the shoes. They felt comfortable right out of the box and super supportive when I was clamoring over rocks and rough terrain. And though I only stepped in water a couple of times briefly, my socks stayed dry, too. I got the brown color with red laces as pictured above, and they’re even cuter in person, which is just another plus.

    I spend a lot of my time shopping in New York City, but there are certain stores I have to keep myself from stepping foot inside in order to keep my bank account in the green. One such place is Saks Fifth Avenue, a staple of the NYC shopping scene where finances go to die, not necessarily because everything’s pricey, but because it’s all utterly irresistible. Alas, sometimes you have to break your own rules. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself given that I did, indeed, walk into Saks this week and subsequently spent a total of three hours scouring the store’s seemingly endless offering. 

    Naturally, with a selection as good as the one at Saks, I couldn’t possibly just look at my favorite pieces from the bunch. I had to try them on, too. So, to make the damage more worthwhile, I decided to turn my shopping experience into the latest installment of my monthly column Let’s Get a Room. That way, I can use work as an excuse for my reckless behavior and everybody wins.
