14 Items I Tried On That’ll Have People Asking, “Wait, That’s From Abercrombie?”

    [ad_1]

Welcome to Let’s Get a Room, a series where editor Eliza Huber heads to the dressing room to try on pieces from your favorite retailers, buzzy items, and new collections. Think of this column as a detailed guide to the pieces that are actually worth buying and the ones that, unfortunately, looked better online—no returns necessary.

When I really think about it, I’m 99% sure that Abercrombie was the first store I ever went in on my own. I’m 100% sure of the first piece I ever bought there, 1. because I wore it at least four times a week for years, and 2. because it was my first time ever buying a clothing item with my own money. They were dark-wash skinny jeans with zippered hems from the Kids store at my local, suburban-Chicago mall. I saved up for them for weeks.

For the next half a decade or so, I was obsessed with Abercrombie, wearing it from head-to-toe every time I had a casual-dress day at my elementary school (we wore uniforms) and in pieces once I got to middle school and was allowed to dress as I pleased. By the time I entered high school, though, my interest in the brand’s signature aesthetic had waned as I started wanting to look older and more like the models I saw in fashion magazines and designer advertising campaigns. In turn, I stopped visiting its stores. In fact, I didn’t step foot in one for close to ten years.

Given my childhood infatuation, my excitement couldn’t be contained when I started noticing that Abercrombie was going in a different direction a few years back—a more timeless, elevated, and style-forward direction. It grew even more when I was invited to preview its new New York City flagship store, positioned on Fifth Avenue, adjacent to Ferragamo, Cartier, and the Museum of Modern Art. (Chic, I know.) Like a kid in a candy store, I immediately started grabbing pieces that unlike the ones I remembered from my tween days, looked utterly sophisticated and grown up. Below, check out all 14 of the ones I brought into the dressing room. I promise, if you too haven’t immersed yourself in the Abercrombie world since you were young, you won’t believe that these are from the same brand.

If The Row Is What You Want, Buy These COS, Massimo Dutti, and Zara Finds ASAP

    [ad_1]

Because The Row is such a minimalist brand, you’d think successfully achieving the “The Row look” would be quite simple. Throw on an oversize button-down shirt with a turtleneck underneath, and pair the duo with belted slouchy, pleated trousers. Done. But there’s a reason why people—including Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, and Kendall Jenner—will spend thousands on a single item from the brand. Every single piece that The Row debuts, no matter how understated it is, has a subtle twist that makes it stand out as significantly more elegant than all of the other seemingly similar basics that are out there.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to try to convince you to buy up a ton of The Row pieces. (Though, if you want to, I’ll support it and be jealous.) What I will do, though, is share mine and every quiet luxury–loving fashion editor’s secret to mastering the brand’s aesthetic for a whole lot less than four digits. Well, it’s really three secrets, and their names are Zara, COS, and Massimo Dutti. From handbags to tailored suiting to basics that’ll become the backbone of your wardrobe for the rest of time, these retailers have The Row’s look down pat. To prove it, I looked through every item on all three websites and found the 37 pieces that fit the brand’s vibe the most. Scroll down to dive in.

Reformation’s Sale Is Finally Here—8 Marked-Down Items I Tried On and Loved

    [ad_1]

Out of all the sales that have come and gone this summer, only a handful really standout as being elite and worthy of some serious set-aside time. There’s Nordstrom’s iconic Anniversary Sale, Zara’s mind-boggling everything-must-go sale, and, of course, *the* SSENSE sale. But none get whispered about among fashion girls quite like Reformation’s once-yearly sale, which, as luck would have it, started today

Every year around this time, Reformation secretly launches a mega round of discounts, with the date and time always changing slightly to surprise the brand’s biggest fans. People plan for weeks leading up to it, hoping the items they’ve been eyeing will get the markdown treatment. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s time to check your shopping carts for 30%-off prices. That, and tell you exactly what it is that you should buy now that red slashes have been dealt out.

To prepare for the annual shopping event, I stopped into SoHo’s store ahead of the sale and got a sneak peek at some of what it would eventually include, from floral dresses and sets to tank tops and denim. I even got to try some on. Below, see the items I took into the dressing room with me and shop more of my finds from Reformation’s just-launched 30%-off sale.

  • Prediction: These Pieces Will Be Center Stage On the Fashion Month Street Style

Prediction: These Pieces Will Be Center Stage On the Fashion Month Street Style

    [ad_1]

With fashion month kicking off in New York in less than a month, our editors have been buzzing about the upcoming runway shows that are confirmed on the S/S 24 schedule and the newness that is in store. They have also been discussing the street style looks that are in store as well as the new-season trends and exact pieces we’re expecting to see on the fashion set. While there are plenty of just-dropped items from the F/W 23 collections that are sure to be in heavy rotation, there are some buzzy finds I’m predicting will be heavily in demand and center stage on the fashion month street style scene.

My shortlist includes pieces such as Prada’s white flower-adorned heels and skirts, Tory Burch’s two-tone chiffon skirts, Alaïa’s laser-cut Mary-Jane flats, and The Row’s knit cotton gloves, among many others. Ahead, shop the pieces I already know will be in heavy rotation on the street style scene next month.

Alaïa’s the Goal, $150’s the Budget—31 Chic Nordstrom and Zara Items That’ll Do

    [ad_1]

From its viral fishnet flats to its celeb-packed spring 2024 show (which was casually set on a footbridge overlooking the Seine in Paris), there’s no question that Alaïa is the brand on the tip of the entire fashion industry’s tongue right now. Founded in Paris in the late 1970s by Tunisian couturier Azzedine Alaïa, the house is most known for its clingy, form-fitting silhouettes—the designer was nicknamed in the media the “King of Cling” during his heyday in the ’80s and ’90s—and laser-cut accessories, from corset belts to handbags.

Today, a new designer sits at the helm of the brand, creative director Peter Mulier, but while his unique design style is certainly apparent, Alaïa’s enormous legacy remains fully in tact, with his signature cling and cuts continuing to act as symbols of the house. And with the return of ’80s trends like cuff bracelets, nipped-in waists, sculptural shapes, and more, a perfect storm’s been brewing for Alaïa’s biggest moment yet.

Unfortunately, as much as I’d like to line the racks of my closet with hooded body-cons and netted footwear, doing so isn’t always realistic when you’re shopping on a budget. That’s why I went ahead and rounded up 31 under-$150 pieces that’ll get you the Alaïa look for less from Nordstrom and Zara.

These Nordstrom, J.Crew, and H&M Finds Are Giving Wealth for Less Than $150

    [ad_1]

As much as I’d like to fill my wardrobe with best-of-the-best designer pieces, that’s not always (aka rarely) a viable option for a 27-year-old like me who simultaneously lives in Manhattan with a shoe addiction and a tendency to buy multiple coffees a day. And yes, I am pretending I don’t splurge on a salad and fries every Saturday afternoon like clockwork. But since crafting a closet that allows me to put together outfits on the fly that always appear elegant, timeless, and chic is my ultimate goal in life, I’ve had to find ways to cut corners, sourcing pieces that aren’t necessarily priced like designer but look the part nonetheless.

Since I’m currently laser-focused on adding some necessary fall pieces to my rotation before the season begins, I thought I’d share the wealth by offering up a few of the items that, due to their on-budget prices but outside-of-budget appearances, are high on my shopping list. From ivory blazers and pastel button-downs to trench coats and Mary Janes, scroll down for 36 of the most impressive and most expensive-looking fall finds I’ve added thus far, all of which just so happen to be from J.Crew, H&M, and Nordstrom.

I Scout Trendy Items For a Living—29 I Found Hiding In Nordstrom’s Sale Section

    [ad_1]

I’m on the lookout for trendy, of-the-moment items 24/7, whether I’m sitting at my desk or laying in bed and scrolling on my phone. It’s more than a job for me—it’s a lifestyle. So, you can bet that when Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year kicked off earlier this month, I quickly got to work devouring it, searching for the absolute coolest, most on-trend pieces included in the offering. But actually, I’ve been to the NYC flagship already four times since the sale started to scout pieces and likely rummaged through the online selection a dozen times if not more.

Fortunately, it wasn’t all for nothing, because this year’s sale section is overflowing with finds, from the forever-necessary AllSaints leather jacket that’s haunted me ever since I worked at the SoHo store the summer after my sophomore year of college to the sunglasses that Olivia Wilde’s been wearing for a majority of 2023. But neither come close to competing with the under-$150 Miu Miu–esque buckle motorcycle boots that I discovered. All of the above and so much more are just a click away when you scroll down and through my hand-picked curation of the most impressive buys from Nordstrom’s epic Anniversary Sale, which ends on August 9.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is arguably the shopping event of the summer. There are tons of amazing discounts on everything from contemporary labels like Cult Gaia and Coach to classic brands like Levi’s, New Balance, Ray-Ban, and so many more. My jewelry go-tos like Jenny Bird and Monica Vinader also have stunning creations included in the sale.

When you start looking under the Anniversary Sale tab on the site, though, the realization that there are over 2000 items to sort through in a limited time—prices go back up on August 7—can be more than a little bit overwhelming. After all, a proper deep dive into this year’s offering could take hours. Lucky for you, I spent my time sifting through the discounted lot to bring you 32 of the best pieces from the sale. What can I say? I take my responsibility as a fashion editor very seriously.

Ahead, find everything from under-$100 picks to Nordstrom stylist faves, but be warned: Things tend to sell out extremely fast. Keep scrolling for some seriously standout finds and get ’em before they’re gone.

I Really Should Gatekeep These 36 Summer Finds, But I Won’t—You’re Welcome

    [ad_1]

As it’s my job to sort through every clothing item, shoe style, and accessory on the market and dig out the best ones, gatekeeping isn’t really an option. It would go against everything I was hired to do. But that doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes want to keep a very small (but mighty) number of items to myself—not only so that they don’t sell out before I break myself down and buy them but also so that I know I’ll be the first person to wear them. Alas, wanting to do something and actually doing it are two very different things, which is how this curation of should’ve-been-gatekept pieces came to be.

Below, you’ll find a treasure trove of fashion finds that I’ve come across and considered hiding away in the last few weeks. I have high standards, so you know they’re good. Whether it’s an on-sale discovery that shouldn’t be as cheap as it is or a soon-to-be-viral item that’ll be gone in weeks or maybe even days, the pieces featured in the list below should not be slept on for one more day. Don’t make me regret sharing them. It took a lot, so I expect all of you to react accordingly.

8 Fall Runway Trends I’m Shopping Early and On Sale At Nordstrom

    [ad_1]

At last, Nordstrom’s long-awaited Anniversary Sale is here and while it’s certainly tempting to only buy things that fit your exact needs right now, I want to challenge you to think ahead. As someone who has shopped this sale (and many, many others) for over a decade, I’ve made every discount-related mistake in the book. From said mistakes, though, I’ve also learned the right way to approach them. And the lesson I follow most is to go into sales with the following season in mind rather than the current one. That way, when you buy something, you have months to break it in instead of mere weeks.

Since the Anniversary Sale arrives at the tail end of summer, fall—often regarded as the best fashion season of all—is our primary focus. Fortunately for anyone needing a bit of inspiration before tackling its endless array of red-marked shelves and/or pages, there’s no shortage of fall 2023 runway imagery to influence your purchases. So, before your dream fall wardrobe gets snatched up by someone else with the right idea in mind, scroll down to discover all of the fall 2023 runway trends that are available shopping early and on sale at Nordstrom until August 7.

  • According to Madewell’s Creative Director, These Fall Items Can’t Be Missed

According to Madewell’s Creative Director, These Fall Items Can’t Be Missed

    [ad_1]

As we inch closer and closer to August, the unofficial end of summer (at least in my eyes), there is one thing to look forward to—the arrival of fall collections. In the fashion world, autumn is believed by many to be the supreme season for style, with all sorts of layering possibilities coming out of the woodwork after a season that makes wearing, well, anything (apart from tank tops, linen trousers, and denim shorts) nearly unbearable. So, when fall pieces begin to drop, we all get a little bit too excited, even if it does mean summer is coming to a close.

One brand that recently debuted its fall offering for 2023 is Madewell. The laid-back sister brand of J.Crew is most known for its stellar denim and unbeatable basics. This season’s collection is full of easy yet elevated pieces that can be worn repeatedly in new ways.

“For fall, we were focused on creating signature, high-quality pieces that lend themselves to endless occasions, integrating our take on nostalgic collegiate, playing with proportions and details to update our denim dressing, refining utilitarian styles through elevated fabrications and details, and modernizing our leather accessories,” Joyce Lee, Madewell’s creative director, tells Who What Wear ahead of the launch of the fall collection. “This collection was rooted in the concept of creating a capsule of high-rotation pieces designed to serve as elevated and timeless wardrobe foundations, all rooted in denim,” she continues. According to Lee, denim is always her team’s number one priority. “We always start with the denim silhouettes we’re most excited about, and then we build the pieces around them to complete the wardrobe,” she says. “We play with an evolving color palette, proportions, textures, and pieces that bring modernity and functionality. And [we] always consider design details.”

This season, the design team is most excited about the launch of the ’90s Straight Jean and the Low-Slung Straight Jean, as well as the extended offering of the popular Harlow Wide-Leg Pants, which will now come in nine new color options. According to Lee, though she’s smitten with the entire fall collection, the ’90s Straight Jeans are the one piece she recommends most: “They’re sure to become a mainstay.”

The Official Dos and Don’ts of Black-Tie Attire for Women

    [ad_1]

If you’re headed to a formal event that calls for a strict dress code, you’ve landed in the right spot. Cocktail attire, semi-formal, white-tie attire—ring any bells? While all the aforementioned dress codes read “fancy,” what’s really the difference between them all? Are there strict rules? If so, what are they? Well, today, we’re here to take a deep dive into one dress code, in particular, and that would be black-tie attire for women.

To get a second opinion on the matter, we reached out to celebrity stylist Sarah Nearis for her expert opinion. Let’s be honest: If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about formal dressing, it’s her. “Some people dread black-tie events, but they are my favorite because it gives me an excuse to go all out. I love the opportunity to get glammed up, but there are some dos and don’ts when it comes to black-tie events,” says Nearis. We’re curious to discover what they are. Read on as she walks us through her official dos and don’ts on appropriate wedding black-tie attire for women. Take notes, people—we promise this will come in handy one day.

Wealth’s the Word: 37 Items That Don’t Shout But Scream Expensive

    [ad_1]

It was once far too easy to spot a non-designer item in a sea of designer ones, but these days, designers have gotten quite good at whipping up pieces that would leave even the most advanced luxury experts stumped. Under-$100 tops, shoes, and dresses can appear just as pricey as over-$1000 ones, if not more, making it significantly easier to build a wardrobe of both designer and non-designer items that blend seamlessly together.

As a fashion editor who wants to look expensive but can’t afford to buy only designer pieces, there’s hardly anything that brings me more satisfaction than discovering these sartorial anomalies. Because of that, I decided to turn my obsession into work by going through all of my favorite retailers—from Nordstrom and Moda Operandi to H&M and J.Crew—and plucking out shockingly expensive-looking and actually expensive pieces that go together like two side-by-side pieces of a puzzle. A perfect fit.

Yep, These Are the Only Leggings You’ll Wear for the Next 3 Months

    [ad_1]

As we’re now in the midst of summer, the weather continues to warm up, and working out seems more and more uncomfortable thanks to the heat. It can already be difficult to motivate yourself to get to your HIIT class or go on a run, never mind when you have to consider the thought of pulling on a pair of thick, sweat-inducing leggings. Sadly, unless you’re planning on going to a naked-yoga class, your options remain leggings or shorts, and personally, I’m not trying to sport a pair of teeny, butt-hugging spandex shorts while I burpee and squat-jump my way through my workout.

The solution? Lightweight leggings that can take you from hot yoga (clothes included) to an outdoor run without turning up the heat more than necessary. The key is to look for breathable, quick-drying fabrics like nylon or polyester (there are sustainable options in this category!) and design elements like mesh panels and lace-up detailing. Whether you’re looking to get active or just prove that leggings are, in fact, pants, we’ve rounded up the 20 best leggings for summer below.

7 Tricks to Clean Your Suede Bag

    [ad_1]

If you’re anything like me, you likely have one of your beloved designer bags tucked away in your closet. For me, it’s the Chloé Faye Bag I eyed forever and then finally sealed the deal on. However, that beautiful suede work of art rarely sees the light of day as I save it for “special occasions”—days when there is neither a drop of moisture in the air nor snow on the ground. Suede is one of the more delicate bag materials; once you’ve gotten it dirty, there’s no going back. Or so I thought.

Upon recently experiencing the nightmare of getting a stain on my suede bag (I live in New York—it was bound to happen eventually), I frantically scoured the internet for tips and tricks to restore my baby to its pristine condition. It turns out that cleaning a suede bag is not as difficult as I once thought. It simply requires specific, precise steps and tools (you may already have them in your kitchen!) and the know-how to treat the material properly.

With the following tools and tips, you can easily bring your suede bag back to its former glory—or ensure your currently clean carry-all maintains its perfect condition for years to come. Keep reading to find out how to clean a suede bag and remove everything from dirt to stains and even gum.

  • Yes, That’s From Madewell—18 Items I Tried On That Could Easily Be Designer

Yes, That’s From Madewell—18 Items I Tried On That Could Easily Be Designer

I’ll admit, I’m new to the Madewell bandwagon. But after spotting a slew of pieces that I straight up couldn’t believe were from the affordable denim brand and not a designer ready-to-wear label, I figured it was about time I stop sleeping on its offerings and finally give the retailer a proper IRL test-drive. And since a brand-new location just opened on the Upper East Side in Manhattan and I myself am an uptown newcomer, I practically had no choice but to stop by and set up shop in the dressing room for a few hours.

To say that my expectations for the selection were exceeded wouldn’t even begin to describe the situation at hand. As an extremely picky fashion editor, getting pieces to impress me online is already rare. For them to win me over in person is a whole other, far more strenuous feat. And yet, from linen trousers to basic tanks, pretty much everything I brought with me into my dressing room at Madewell came home with me.
