    The Forest Hills, Shelley Duvall’s Final Film, Gets a Bloody Trailer

    This past summer, movie fans mourned the death of 75-year-old actor Shelley Duvall. Best known for The Shining, Time Bandits, and plenty of other movies, she began to distance herself from acting in the early 2000s before famously retiring altogether after the 2002 independent film Manna from Heaven. But in 2022, she stunned everyone with the news that she’d come back to the screen once more in what’s now to be her last role ever.

    That movie is The Forest Hills, which recently dropped its first trailer ahead of its early October release. In the film, Chiko Mendez plays Rico, a camper in the Catskill mountains who takes a blow to the head and ends up with weird, creepy visions he just can’t get out of his head. Eventually, his friend Billy (Edward Furlong) gets into Rico’s head that he might actually be turning into a werewolf, and it’s possible he’s not the only one that’s happening to. While grappling with the idea of that, Rico also has to confront his past, chiefly his strained relationship with his mother, played by Duvall.

    Initially, Duvall was only meant to appear via a small flashback cameo, a la Pamela Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th. But as writer/director Scott Goldberg tells it, she talked about working with other actors on camera, so her role was beefed up as a result. “Being able to finally work with Shelley and be there in person, and actually film with her — she’s kind, sweet, gentle, and such an amazing actress,” he recalled. “Shelley was an amazing actress to work with, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to direct her.”

    The Forest Hills will hit select theaters on October 4, followed by streaming on October 8.

    Dr. Phil McGraw is speaking out about the backlash that ensued following his widely panned 2016 interview with actor Shelley Duvall.

    Appearing on CNN’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” last week, the host of CBS’s “Dr. Phil” stood by his decision to conduct the televised interview with Duvall, who acknowledged having a mental illness on air.

    “I don’t regret what I did,” McGraw told Wallace. “I regret that it was promoted in a way that people thought was unbecoming.”

    He went on to note: “We worked with her family. We worked with her for over a year, off-camera, after that fact, providing her opportunities for inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. I can’t tell you the extent we went through.”

    During her interview with Dr. Phil, Duvall claimed that her former “Popeye” co-star Robin Williams, who died by suicide in 2014, was still alive and a shapeshifter.

    “I’m very sick. I need help,” said the actor, best known for her portrayal of Wendy Torrance in “The Shining.”

    Not surprisingly, the episode was met with widespread condemnation from Duvall’s fans as well as mental health advocates. Among those who spoke out was Vivian Kubrick, the daughter of “The Shining” director Stanley Kubrick, who blasted the “exploitative” interview as “appallingly cruel.”

    In his chat with Wallace, McGraw suggested that many of his critics would’ve been better served by attempting to intervene on Duvall’s behalf directly.

    “The people that were critical of it, nobody ever asked them what they ever did to try and help her,” he said. “And the answer is not a damn thing.”

    In 2021, Duvall appeared to regret her “Dr. Phil” appearance, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I found out the kind of person he is the hard way.”

    Duvall recently returned to acting after a 21-year hiatus in “The Forest Hills,” an independent horror film. Speaking to People in March to promote the movie, she said she enjoyed the experience of being on set once again and hinted that she plans to pursue more acting projects in the future.

    “[Jessica Tandy] won an Oscar when she was 80,” she told the publication. “I can still win.”

    Shelley Duvall is returning to the big screen, 20 years after her last film role.

    Duvall, 73, is in the upcoming horror movie “The Forest Hills,” which follows a man named Rico, played by Chiko Mendez, who goes on a dark journey in the Catskills. Duvall plays his mother.

    Duvall’s fame skyrocketed after sge starred in another thriller, Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film “The Shining.”

    She last acted in 2002’s “Manna From Heaven,” and then announced she would be retiring from Hollywood.

    The cast of “Forest Hills” also includes “The Howling” star Dee Wallace and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” star Edward Furlong.

    The movie is written and directed by Scott Goldberg.

    Shelley Duvall is making a comeback, more than 20 years after her last movie role.

    According to Deadline, the star of such big-screen hits as “The Shining” and “Nashville” has joined the cast of “The Forest Hills”, an indie horror-thriller from writer-director Scott Goldberg

    Also starring Edward Furlong, Chiko Mendez and Dee Wallace, the film is about “a disturbed man who is tormented by nightmarish visions, after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains.”

    Duvall will play the mother of Rico (Mendez), the disturbed man at the centre of “The Forest Hills”.

    “We are huge fans of ‘The Shining’ and it’s honestly one of my favourite horror movies of all time, up there with John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ and George A. Romero’s ‘Day of the Dead’ with the dark tones they delivered in their movies, along with perfect scores and elements that make them my personal favourites,” Goldberg said in a statement. “Shelley contributed to ‘The Shining’ being an absolute masterpiece by giving her all, and performing in a way that really showcased the fear and horror of a mother in isolation.”

    During her heyday in the 1970s and ’80s, Duvall starred in such films as “McCabe and Mrs. Miller”, “Thieves Like Us”, “Annie Hall”, “Three Women”, “Time Bandits”, “Popeye” and “Roxanne”, and has won a Peabody Award, the Cannes Film Festival’s prize for Best Actress, two Emmy nominations and a BAFTA nomination.

    In 2002, Duvall made her final film appearance in “Manna From Heaven”, starring alongside Louise Fletcher and Cloris Leachman, before announcing that she was retiring from acting.

    In 2016, Duvall made a controversial appearance on “Dr. Phil”, revealing her struggles with mental health. “I’m very sick,” she said at the time, adding, “I need help.”

    In a subsequent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Duvall admitted she regretted her “Dr. Phil” appearance, and appeared to agree with critics who blasted host Dr. Phil McGraw for allegedly exploiting her during a low point in her life.
