    Jennifer Lawrence is always one to watch, but she’s demanded extra attention lately because of her new collaboration with stylist Jamie Mizrahi. The actress stepped out at the London premiere of her latest film in a stunning sheer gown with appliqué from Dior’s Fall 2023 collection. She paired the dress with A+ accessories, including opera-length leather gloves, classic Manolo Blahnik heels, and dazzling jewelry.

    While we weren’t surprised to see Lawrence wearing the designer label (she’s been a brand partner since 2012), we didn’t expect this relatively demure take on the sheer trend. Instead of opting for a look that’s almost 90% nude, Lawrence revealed only her strapless black bra, allowing the gown to be elegant and alluring all at once. 

    We definitely plan to steal Lawrence’s tricks for styling this sheer dress (although we’re always inspired by her looks). And, even though we’re not on Dior’s VIP list, we can definitely get our hands on an excellent black strapless bra.     What bubbles to the top of your mind when you think of summer trends? So often, this time of year is associated with specific trend categories—e.g., sandals, swimwear, and dresses. And while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to know what the coolest shoes for the summer are, in a rush to focus on those more seasonal trends, we often forget that there are other fundamental wardrobe items worth our attention (ahem, tops). Don’t get me wrong; I love an outrageous trend just as much as the next girl. But I also know that the key to building a solid wardrobe, saving money, and being more sustainably-minded lies in investing in pieces you’ll wear daily. 

    If you clicked on this story, you have also realized that no trend is worth adopting unless you can style it with the staples already in your closet. And that’s even more true when thinking about top trends for the summer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought a cute top for the summer, only to realize it’s challenging to style, can’t be worn to work, or will likely be out of style by next summer—it’s not a great experience. So to prevent it from happening again (for myself and others), I’ve done hours of research to identify the six best summer top trends.

    To put it plainly, 2022 was the year of the cutout, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the various iterations from Jonathan Simkhai’s iconic waist cutouts to Euphoria-esque G-string pants. This year, what the cutouts reveal is just as important as the cutouts themselves—hence I dub the evolution of this trend “negative space.” While cutouts imply something being taken away, the negative-space trend focuses on what fills the void. Whether it be vignettes of the human form or an interesting web of shapes created via layering techniques, this trend plays tricks on the eyes, often leaving you with more questions than answers. 

    Many refer to this evolution of cutouts as subversive, drawing on the tradition of Rick Owens and others who subvert the industry’s notions of beauty to create something beautiful themselves. It feels very continuous in this tradition while also extending the field of market options to include traditionally pretty versions of the trend too, so there’s truly something for everyone.
