  • Shaq just rolled out new snacks at Publix and 7-Eleven, and they involve dunks

    Shaq is into the snack.

The former Miami Heat star and South Florida reserve police officer is the face behind a line of snacks and candy that just launched a new variety.

Shaquille O’Neal announced this week that the new year brings Shaq-a-licious SLAMS snacks to South Florida Publix, Walmart and 7-Eleven stores. They’re modeled after basketball hoops.

“People always told me, ‘Don’t play with your food.’ ” O’Neal, 53, said in a statement. “With SLAMS, I’m telling everybody: Go ahead and play with your candy.”

Shaq partnered with candy company Hershey in 2024 to release the first variety of Shaq-a-licious fruit snacks as a Walmart exclusive. He even returned to South Florida to promote the launch at the store.

MORE: Shaq returns to Miami to share his new brand of snacks

The latest Shaq SLAMS snacks consist of Shaq-a-licious gummy pieces in orange, strawberry and watermelon flavors coated with sweet, crunchy candy. Mango-flavored hoops are included to “dunk” the gummy pieces into, just as Shaq used to dunk basketballs.

O’Neal has become as famous for his business acumen as he is for his Hall of Fame pro basketball career. The seven-foot-one Shaq played with the Heat 2004-08 and won an NBA championship with Dwyane Wade in 2006. Shaq also could be seen around town as a reserve police officer for Doral, Golden Beach and Miami Beach.

Now, O’Neal is a philanthropist, TV pitch person — and candy man.

In addition to stores, the Shaq-a-licious snacks are available online at hersheyland.com/shaqalicious.

  • Jared Dudley has played with and coached countless superstars. His mission in Denver? Protect Nikola Jokic defensively

Jared Dudley’s second career had already started before his first one was over. He just needed time to realize it.

Winning a championship with LeBron James helped him get there. By then, Dudley had been bouncing around the NBA for more than a dozen years. The LeBron- and Anthony Davis-led Lakers were his seventh team. “When you can sit in a room and watch film with LeBron, AD and (Rajon) Rondo and call them out,” he says, “it’s something that very few coaches have the guts to be able to do, the credibility.”

Dudley felt perfectly comfortable doing that. Enough to begin to recognize a knack for leadership that could serve him beyond his playing years, which were numbered anyway. “It’s like I’d been coaching my last four or five years in the NBA,” he realized.

In 2021, he was planning to prolong his time on the Lakers’ roster as a veteran bench presence — he and James had developed a close friendship — but a new opportunity beckoned. Former Lakers assistant Jason Kidd took over as head coach of the Mavericks, and he had a staff opening ready for Dudley.

The beloved longtime role player took the leap directly into coaching. Four years later, he’s ascending the ranks. Nuggets coach David Adelman kicked off his regime this summer by hiring Dudley to oversee Denver’s defense, which ranked 21st in the league last season.

“Word of mouth,” Adelman said. “A lot of people told me great things about him, and in this league, sometimes it’s not who you know; it’s what you hear from other people you respect and trust.”

A coaching lifer, Adelman wanted to make sure he built a staff that included former players to introduce a healthy range of perspectives. In the 40-year-old Dudley, he landed someone who brought not just schematic creativity, which has already been on display early this season, but a candid demeanor and clear understanding of NBA locker room dynamics.

“Just because you were a player doesn’t mean you can relate,” Dudley told The Denver Post in an interview this week. “It takes all those different experiences on my journey as a player to be able to know how to talk to them, when to talk to them, when to come at Jamal (Murray), when to come at (Nikola) Jokic, when to call other players out.

“… That’s what I’m trying to do (for) a team that struggled on defense but has a historically good offense. Make this team above-average defensively to give us a chance to win a championship.”

Dudley didn’t always have the “guts” to speak up as audaciously as he did late in his playing career. But that’s how it should be, he thinks. Confidence and privilege come with age in a league where status matters. When Dudley was young, observing and adapting meant survival.

“My mom always taught me a good player is one that listens. So I never had a problem,” he said. “Steve Nash told me one time, ‘When I pass you the ball, I’m passing you the ball with an advantage. So if you don’t have an advantage, pass me the ball back.’ When he says that, OK, I remember that. I believe in a hierarchy where there’s different levels, and superstars get different treatment and can say different things. I believe in that.”

Few people in the league today have worked alongside as many superstars as Dudley. He was traded to Phoenix in 2008 as a second-year bench player, teaming up with Steve Nash, Grant Hill and Shaquille O’Neal. He played with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin on the Lob City Clippers, then with a young Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, John Wall in Washington, Devin Booker in Phoenix, LeBron and AD in Los Angeles. He coached Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson and Kyrie Irving in Dallas.

He tried to absorb something from each experience. Nash’s instructions on what to do with the ball as a role player were a north star. Dudley also partially attributes the length of his career (14 years) to lessons learned from Nash about taking care of his body — “all the stuff he did pre and postgame: IVs, acupuncture, working on your core.” O’Neal taught him in those early years how to balance seriousness and light-heartedness.

Dudley built a reputation with his IQ despite his awkward body type. He played a bit of power forward at Boston College, was drafted as a small forward, then he transformed himself into a starting two-guard with the Suns. He monitored league trends, such as the emergence of Draymond Green and downsized lineups. In Milwaukee, he asked to play the four after Jabari Parker tore an ACL. “I saw the defenses weren’t evolving fast enough for the small-ball four,” Dudley recalled. “I got ahead of it. … You have to evolve — 90% of the league is role players.”

That’s the ethos he’s trying to bring to the Nuggets, a team with a similarly heady identity. Aaron Gordon, in particular, outfitted his game to complement Jokic in 2021 when he was traded to Denver — a reinvention that echoes how Dudley changed his game to function with an all-time great passer in Phoenix.

When Dudley traveled to Denver for his interview in July, he arrived with a film project, exploring zone options and how the staff could limit Jokic’s defensive workload this season. “Even though it might be word-of-mouth,” he said, “you’ve still gotta impress.” He and Adelman had dinner together for more than four hours, talking scheme for about 35% of it (in Dudley’s estimation) and life for the other 65%. Adelman didn’t need much time to deliberate.

Shaq Refused To Pay $80,000 For Security And Made A Surprising Choice. He Invested In A Company Bezos Later Bought For $1 Billion

Shaquille O’Neal is known for his dominance on the basketball court, but his business moves off the court are just as impressive. One of the most surprising stories about Shaq isn’t about a slam dunk or a championship win — it’s about how he turned a simple home security issue into a multi-million-dollar investment.

    Don’t Miss:

Shaq has three homes in Atlanta, where he’s lived for years, and he needed a new security system for one of them. When he contacted a security company, they quoted him $80,000. Even though he’s worth millions, Shaq knew that price was way too high. So, he did what many of us would do and looked for a cheaper solution. While shopping at Best Buy, he spotted some Ring cameras and decided to buy one.

“The crazy thing about it is I hooked it up myself,” Shaq said, clearly proud of his DIY skills. He installed the camera, and then, while traveling in China, he realized just how powerful the system was. He could see and talk to someone at his front door from halfway around the world. That’s when it clicked for Shaq — this wasn’t just a good product but a game-changer.

Trending: If there was a new fund backed by Jeff Bezos offering a 7-9% target yield with monthly dividends would you invest in it?

Excited about what he had discovered, Shaq decided to take things a step further. He tracked down the company’s booth at a tech conference and made a bold offer to the CEO. “I said, ‘Hey, my name is Shaquille O’Neal. I want to invest in your company, and you’re going to pay me to do commercials, and then whatever happens happens,’” Shaq recounted. The CEO agreed, and Shaq became an early investor in Ring.

A few years later, Jeff Bezos bought Ring for $1 billion. Shaq’s decision to invest in this still relatively unknown company saved him money on his home security and made him a lot of money in return. How much exactly? He never disclosed.

Trending: These five entrepreneurs are worth $223 billion – they all believe in one platform that offers a 7-9% target yield with monthly dividends

But this wasn’t Shaq’s first smart investment. In 1999, while still in his NBA prime, Shaq’s agent introduced him to Ron Conway, a top venture capitalist. During a lunch at the Four Seasons, Conway pitched him on investing in a little-known company called Google. Shaq invested $250,000, which grew significantly as Google became a tech giant.

He said, “We had a meeting with them and it looked good, and I put some money in and forgot about it.”

Shaq’s portfolio doesn’t stop there. He’s also invested in companies like Lyft, Apple and Vitaminwater. With Lyft, he jumped in just a year after it was founded, and when the company went public in 2019, it was valued at $22 billion.

  • Charles Barkley says he will not retire and remain with TNT Sports even if they don’t have the NBA

Charles Barkley says he will not retire and remain with TNT Sports even if they don’t have the NBA

Charles Barkley intends to remain with TNT Sports through the remainder of his contract.

The Hall of Fame player announced Tuesday that he will not retire next season, reversing the announcement he made in June during the NBA Finals.

Barkley said at the time that the 2024-25 season would be his last on television, no matter what eventually happened with the NBA’s media deal negotiations. He signed a 10-year contract extension with TNT Sports in 2022.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT Sports, has sued the NBA in New York state court after the league did not accept the company’s matching offer for one of the packages in its new 11-year media rights deal, which will begin with the 2025-26 season.

“I love my TNT Sports family. My (number one) 1 priority has been and always will be our people and keeping everyone together for as long as possible. We have the most amazing people, and they are the best at what they do. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with them both on the shows we currently have and new ones we develop together in the future. This is the only place for me,” Barkley said in a statement. “I have to say … I’ve been impressed by the leadership team who is fighting hard and have been aggressive in adding new properties to TNT Sports, which I am very excited about. I appreciate them and all of my colleagues for their continued support, and most importantly our fans. I’m going to give my all as we keep them entertained for years to come.”

ESPN/ABC, NBC and Amazon Prime Video were expected to try to court Barkley before Tuesday’s announcement. “Inside the NBA” host Ernie Johnson has also said he intends to remain with TNT but the futures of Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith remain uncertain.

Barkley joined TNT in 2000 and has been a part of the iconic “Inside the NBA” show, which has won 21 Sports Emmy Awards and has been a model for studio shows. Barkley took home his fifth Sports Emmy for Outstanding Studio Analyst in May.

What Barkley’s future looks like if TNT does not have the NBA remains to be seen. Turner has had an NBA package since 1984 and games have been on TNT since the network launched in 1988.

However, the relationship started to become strained when Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said during an RBC Investor Conference in November 2022 that Turner and WBD “don’t have to have the NBA.”

TNT Sports also carries the NHL and NCAA men’s basketball tournament with CBS. It recently has added the College Football Playoffs, Big East basketball, NASCAR and the French Open.

“Charles is one of the best and most beloved sportscasters in the history of television. I know I speak for all the members of the TNT Sports family when I say we are incredibly thrilled to share this mutual commitment to continue showcasing Charles’ one-of-a-kind talents and entertain fans well into the future,” TNT Sports Chairman and CEO Luis Silberwasser said in a statement. “We continue to add to the breadth and depth of our sports portfolio and it’s fantastic to have Charles for this journey as we develop new content ideas and shows for our fans.”

Barkley was the co-host of “King Charles,” a weekly talk show on CNN with “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King. But the limited-run series ended in April after six months.

  • Google Him! Shaq Reads Shannon Sharpe DOWN For Saying He Lacked Work Ethic In The NBA

Google Him! Shaq Reads Shannon Sharpe DOWN For Saying He Lacked Work Ethic In The NBA

Shaquille O’Neal admits he made time to address Shannon Sharpe‘s “clickbait” comments! On Thursday, Shaq flexed on Shannon via Instagram, telling the fellow retired athlete to “Google” him.

O’Neal popped off on Sharpe via Instagram. He was responding to a viral clip of Sharpe arguing that Shaq is “envious” about not being a basketball “Goat.” The conversation took place on Sharpe’s ‘Night Cap’ podcast with Chad Ochocinco and Gilbert Arenas.

“You’re never going to see another guy Shaq’s size, with his athleticism that was as dominant as him. Shaq should have had five MVPs…but see when you’re historically great, they talk about you as a basketball legend, the goat, and Shaq is never brought up. And I think a part of him is envious of that,” Sharpe said. Doubling down with, “It’s hard for me to put somebody in the goat conversation with one MVP. Regular season,” Shannon said.

He continued, saying that if Shaq had had his “work ethic, he would’ve had 40,000 points.”

Shaq Says Shannon Is “Trying To Stay Relevant By Gossiping”

Shaq didn’t hold back on Shannon Sharpe, clapping back in multiple posts on his Instagram feed. He accused him of saying “anything to get clicks,” denied being jealous, and ran down his stats.

“If you ain’t ranked in the top ten in your profession, then you can’t speak on Me. Don’t forget I know what you did to get where you are. me jealous, lol sounds like you are jealous. I know you tryna stay relevant by gossiping on your podcast. we don’t believe you. you need more people and in case you forgot. 4 rings, three finals, MVP top 50, and top 75. google me. and to b quite frank all this new success you got, you still under me. u don’t kno my work ethic. but according i work less than you but im worth more than you. make it make sense. love you too.”

Shaq also told Sharpe that there are “better ways” to get his bread up than “gossiping.” As far as being a “goat,” O’Neal wrote, “Never wanted to be the goat I wanted to be who you should greet me as THE MOST DOMINANT EVER.”

Sharpe Reacts To Shaquille O’Neal’s Drag

It looks like Shannon caught Shaq’s clapbacks and proceeded to double down on his “GOAT” opinion. Sharpe pointed out that the former Magic player has admitted to not working, eating, or training as hard “as well as he should have.” He said Shaq always brings up a former MVP loss when someone wins the award.

Shannon said that he has no problem giving other athletes their flowers because he succeeded at “maximizing” his ability.

“You know why I have no problem giving other people credit? Because I got everything I could out of my God-given ability. God gave me the ability to do what I can do, but he gave me discipline, he gave me dedication. The way I train, the way I ate, that way I slept, so this was all I could get. So I would’ve felt this way if I got these numbers and I half-a*ssed it, but I never half-a**ed it.”

Sharpe admitted that his NFL career is not the equivalent of Shaquille’s NBA stats. However, he added that he “maximized” what he had to get what he got!

He admitted that Shaq will always have more and be more than him in the public light. “But no one will ever say I cheated myself,” Sharpe added.

Shaunie Henderson Says “Trust” Let Her Know Pastor Keion Was The One

Shaunie Henderson says she knew her new hubby, Pastor Keion, was the one because of the “trust” factor.

According to Atlanta Black Star, ‘The Basketball Wives’ executive producer admitted she’s experiencing feelings that she never has before.

On her pastor husband’s YouTube series, ‘Not Your Typical Bible Study,’ she expressed how she knew he was the one God chose for her.

How Shaunie Knew Pastor Keion Was The One

Past Keion asked Shaunie, “How do I know when I meet somebody, ‘that’s my person?’… you know like when the Lord showed you.”

She responded that trust played a major role. In addition to being challenged, which is something she didn’t feel prior to their romance.

“I have an answer for that, ’cause I knew this question,” she said.

“So trust was one. I could trust you. You challenged me and I received the challenge, I wasn’t like rebelling the challenge. I didn’t combat the challenge, I take on the challenge. And that was something that I didn’t feel before…”

What Shaunie Loves About Her New Marriage

In addition, Mrs. Henderson added, she enjoyed how they both sought to understand each other’s love language. It was also an element that was missing in previous relationships.

Shaunie and Shaquille O’Neal were married for nine years. The retired NBA player admitted he was unfaithful. Their marriage ended for this reason.

“I would fight for this relationship. I wanted to understand how you recieved love and you wanted to understand how I received love that’s…that was brand new to me too, to acutally take the time to learn how somebody receives love isn’t just loving them,” she explained.

Furthermore, the former basketball wife appreciates that they are each other’s biggest fan and how they can just hang out and be content.

“I can just be with you and do nothing and that’s important because when you love somebody you gotta love being with them,” she added.

The Hendersons tied the knot in Anguilla in 2021. After she married, Shaunie sent her last name O’Neal to the left.

In her upcoming memoir, ‘UNDEFEATED: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms,’ she addressed her past. However, the reality star was careful not to slam her ex-husband, Shaq.

She told People, “I always had a fear of sharing too much and of telling my story that involved anybody else.”

“I didn’t want to disrespect someone else’s story, even if it was a part of mine, but as I get older and do more things in the entertainment industry, I found that people have a misconception of who I am,” she added.

Shaunie’s book will be released in May 2024.

  • Shaquille O’Neal Reminds Everyone He’s the Best NBA Rapper to Ever Do It, With An Assist From Rick Ross and Meek Mill

Shaquille O’Neal Reminds Everyone He’s the Best NBA Rapper to Ever Do It, With An Assist From Rick Ross and Meek Mill

Rap and basketball are inextricably linked—the majority of entertainers in both fields typically hail from the same communities and grew up in the same culture. It’s more than likely that if you made it doing one, you probably had dreams and aspirations of doing the other too. As such, crossover is inevitable and endless. J. Cole’s recent stint as a pro player is an echo of the real run Master P tried to go in in the late ‘90s. Everyone from Kobe to Allen Iverson has a rap song or five to their name if not a whole project. Kevin Durant executive produced the latest Drake album. LeBron James, one of our most important music critics, also invented the deluxe track. The list goes on, but one take is universally held as fact: if we’re talking crossover success stories, Shaquille O’Neal is the Gold Standard. And he just hit everyone with a big reminder last night.

First, let’s back up: Rick Ross and Meek Mill are releasing a new album, called Too Good to Be True. The title is an accurate description of most collab projects, but this is a big deal—Ross and Meek’s reunion is as close as we’ll get to the halcyon early 2010s of Maybach Music Group, when they were one of, if not the hottest label squads out, with Ross’s roster spearheaded by Meek and DC rapper Wale minting club hits, street bangers and radio smashes with ease. It was a time when every Meek verse sounded like he needed to be extinguished after leaving the booth, Wale churned out melodic radio hits like it was nothing, and people of taste knew there was a real, credible argument to be made for Ross’ lifelong friend Gunplay being one of the best rappers out. French Montana, also at his peak, was a close family friend despite being formally beholden to Bad Boy Records. Even bemusing decisions like signing Omarion yielded an undeniable track or two (and later, in true Ross fashion, A1 punchlines admitting it didn’t work out.)

Alas, all good crews come to an end. Ross and Meek had a brief (and thankfully never that serious) period of estrangement, Wale has since departed for Def Jam, Gunplay is in and out of trouble and endorsing Donald Trump amongst other problematic behavior, and so on.

All of that is to say, while Ross and Meek have been no stranger to featuring on each other’s albums still, it’s a thrill to see them really back together, trading verses over a mean, gritty beat for “Shaq and Kobe,” mean-mugging in a music video that feels like Michael Mann directing Bad Boys 4 and in full album rollout mode up at radio stations with Funk Flex like it’s 2011 again. They kept the momentum going with an only slightly-less-hard album cut that flips Jay-Z’s classic “Lyrical Exercise.” And last night was their biggest coup yet, with a “Shaq and Kobe” remix that gets one of its namesakes back in his rapper bag. (The original song, save a “hustling 24 hours” double entendre, is light on overt NBA references and moreso just alludes to the duo’s historic dominance. Rap and ball, linked as ever.)

Nineties babies and NBA/hip-hop fans alike are all too familiar with Shaq’s rap career, which began not long after his 1992 draft to the league, peaked with his 1996 album You Can’t Stop the Reign, and petered out right before the start of the new millennium. The annals of rap history are littered with aspiring-rapper-athletes—All-Stars who despite their achievements on the court couldn’t resist the urge to be an entertainer of a similar but different cloth. Most of the music merits participation trophies at best; few ballers came as correct as Shaq did in the 90s, with albums graced by production from the likes of RZA and Erick Sermon and features from the hottest singers and rappers of the moment. Who else can boast having the first track with Jay-Z and Nas together (in ‘96 no less, what taste) or delivering a true-blue rap classic alongside prime-era Notorious B.I.G. with the titanic yet still smooth “You Can’t Stop the Reign.” It’s not even a case of letting the smooth beat ride out until you get to Frank White’s verse—Shaq is actually spitting. (Extra Credit homework: the late, great DJ Kay Slay’s underrated 2006 flip with Shaq, Papoose and Bun B.)

  • Shaquille O’Neal announced as president of Reebok Basketball division, Allen Iverson named vice president

Shaquille O’Neal announced as president of Reebok Basketball division, Allen Iverson named vice president

Retired NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has been named Reebok’s first president of basketball, the company announced Thursday.

The company also announced that former NBA great Allen Iverson would be joining O’Neal’s efforts as the brand’s vice president of basketball.

The newly created position is part of Reebok’s attempt to reenter professional performance basketball, the company said.

“We are thrilled to be expanding upon our partnership with Shaquille with this historic appointment,” said Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky. “With the combination of his deep-rooted history with Reebok and reigning influence he’s made on the game, there is no one better than this guy to take the helm and lead our brand back to reclaiming its rightful place and dominance in basketball.”

O’Neal has been a Reebok partner for decades — he signed with the shoe brand ahead of his rookie season back in 1992, which, at the time, was the company’s biggest endorsement deal ever, the statement read.

In his new position, the hall-of-famer will lead Reebok’s basketball strategy and “cultivate partnerships” with teams and athletes to help the brand pick up new relevance and dominance in the professional sport, as well as new brand deals with current players, the news release explained.

In response to the announcement O’Neal simply said in a statement, “We’re back, baby! Get ready.” It’s unclear how involved O’Neal, who is also a full-time host on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” will be in the new role.

Iverson has also been a longtime partner of the shoe company, and in his new role, is expected to “drive player recruitment, grassroots and community-based initiatives, and athlete activations like the Iverson Classic.”

O’Neal, considered one of the most dominant centers in NBA history, played 19 years in the league, winning four titles, three with the Los Angeles Lakers and one with the Miami Heat. He was named the league’s most valuable player in 2000.

Iverson, one of the most revolutionary scoring guards to play the game, spent the majority of his 14-year career with the Philadelphia 76ers, leading them to one NBA Finals appearance, which they lost to O’Neal’s Lakers in 2001, the same season he was named NBA MVP.

This year’s gala will be hosted by Actor, Comedian, and Host Joel McHale, and will feature an all-star music and comedy line-up, including performances from EGOT-winning singer-songwriter John Legend; GRAMMY-winning country-pop duo Dan + Shay; 8x GRAMMY award winner DJ Pee .Wee (aka Anderson .Paak) spinning an all vinyl set; EGOT Award-winner Jennifer Hudson; and Emmy Award-winning comedian Ray Romano. Returning for his third year as Music Director is GRAMMY and Emmy Award winner Adam Blackstone.

The Event is the primary fundraiser for The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, established by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal. The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation aims to create pathways for underserved youth to help them achieve their full potential. In doing so, they have partnered with two organizations close to Shaquille’s heart – Boys & Girls Clubs and Communities In Schools.

Tickets to the public concert are available and on sale now via AXS.com. Prices range from $50 to $250. The evening will also include a private cocktail reception, dinner, and live auction followed by the public performance. Table sponsorships for the private event are available ranging from $15,000 to $100,000. Additional details about The Event and ticket or table options can be found at shaqfoundation.org.

“We raised the bar last year, and The Third Event promises to do the same,” O’Neal said. “I’m so grateful to our entertainers who are once again donating their time. I know they will create a night of incredible music and comedy in a true testament to the power of unity to make a difference in kids’ lives. I’m also excited to see familiar faces and new supporters alike, joining hands in the spirit of compassion to give back to the community. Let’s make this another night to remember!”

The Foundation focuses on serving children in Las Vegas and Atlanta. To date, The Event has raised more than $6M, providing key support for the Shaquille O’Neal Boys & Girls Club of Henry County, the construction of youth athletic courts and fields, Shaquille’s annual Shaq-a-Claus holiday program, and more. This year’s proceeds will continue to support similar efforts, including the construction of a new joint facility which will house a Boys & Girls Club and a Communities In Schools Alumni Center in Las Vegas.

“We are proud to partner again with The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation to support our communities in need,” said Kent Montgomery, SVP, Industry Relations and Multicultural Development, PepsiCo. “Our goal is to bring smiles and support to historically underserved communities, and this partnership supports our shared vision to drive equity and help truly make a difference.”

Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen among celebrities sued over FTX crypto collapse

After months of evasion, basketball star Shaquille O’Neal has been served in a case involving collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX. The legal documents, served Tuesday, were delivered to the former athlete and current “Inside the NBA” analyst during the broadcast of a Miami Heat-Boston Celtics playoff game in Miami, plaintiffs’ attorney Adam Moskowitz said.

The complaint is part of a class-action lawsuit alleging O’Neal and other celebrities defrauded FTX investors by appearing in advertisements for the crypto-trading platform. O’Neal “hid” from process servers for months before being tracked down at the Kaseya Center, formerly called the FTX Arena, Moskowitz told CBS MoneyWatch.

A process server filmed the event to make sure there wouldn’t be “any problem” moving the case forward, Moskowitz said. Shaq ordered the process server to be ejected from the arena after the service, he added.

“They gave video of most of the service —not all, so we would be shocked if they raise any problems,” Moskowitz said. “We also now served a copy on his lawyer Bobby Martinez, so there can be no doubt he is served!”

Process servers thought they had successfully served the Hall of Famer in April. However, O’Neal earlier this month filed a request to dismiss the lawsuit, alleging that he had never actually received the legal papers.

“This purported ‘service’ is inadequate,” O’Neal’s attorneys said in a court filing. “It should be quashed, and the claims against Mr. O’Neal dismissed.”

According to federal law, a complaint must be served in person or through mail. If the individual being served does not receive the papers, the case can be delayed or dismissed.

In March, Forbes reported that Moskowitz’s firm had enlisted four different companies to hand O’Neal the complaint after months of failed attempts to serve the former athlete.

During the Tuesday night game, O’Neal was also served a second complaint alleging he and his son promoted an NFT project called ASTRALS before abandoning it, according to Moskowitz.

O’Neal’s lawyer, Roberto Martinez, did not immediately reply to CBS MoneyWatch’s request for comment.

“The irony here is that Shaq claimed no experience in crypto but this new class case for the NFT Astrals proves the opposition — he, his son and his business partner, all planned to make many millions odd dollars based solely on his involvement,” Moskowitz said.

Shaq Served in FTX Lawsuit Allegedly ‘Hiding’ for Months | Entrepreneur

Basketball legend and businessman Shaquille O’Neal was served legal documents on Sunday in the FTX lawsuit, after allegedly dodging the paperwork for months. The lawsuit is targeting FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and the company’s celebrity endorsers for defrauding investors.

Adam Moskowitz, co-counsel for investors on the FTX class action suit and partner at Moskowitz Law Firm, said that Shaq was “hiding and driving away from our process servers for the past three months,” per Coindesk.

“Plaintiffs in the billion $ FTX class action case just served @SHAQ outside his house,” the Moskowitz Law Firm tweeted. “His home video cameras recorded our service and we made it very clear that he is not to destroy or erase any of these security tapes, because they must be preserved for our lawsuit.”

Prior to the update on Sunday evening, Moskowitz Law Firm tweeted at Shaq on April 13th saying that “all other FTX celebrities have agreed to receive their complaints,” and called on the NBA Hall of Famer to have “courtesy and honor” in allowing the lawyers to deliver the papers.

The FTX class action lawsuit claims Bankman-Fried and other public figures defrauded investors by promoting the cryptocurrency in what ultimately was a “Ponzi scheme,” per court documents. Other celebrities implicated in the lawsuit are Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, Stephen Curry, and Kevin O’Leary.

Shaquille O’Neal served in FTX lawsuit, lawyers say

Shaquille O’Neal has been served in a class-action lawsuit against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and multiple celebrity spokespeople, a lawyer for the plaintiffs said in a statement Sunday night. The announcement came several days after a Florida judge denied a motion to allow the NBA legend to be served electronically after allegedly dodging service for months.

“I wanted you to know the good news that we just served personally Shaquille O’Neal outside his house in Atlanta,” Adam M. Moskowitz, the attorney leading the lawsuit, said in a statement. “The good news is his home video cameras recorded our service and we have made it very clear, he is not to destroy and/or erase any of these security tapes, because they must be preserved for our lawsuit.”

Moskowitz and his law firm had been given a deadline of Monday to serve O’Neal, who Moskowitz said had “been hiding and driving away from our process servers for the past 3 months.”

O’Neal, who currently serves as an analyst for “Inside the NBA,” was the final defendant in the lawsuit to be served, according to the motion asking to serve him electronically.

The motion claimed that a process server had attempted to serve O’Neal dozens of times at his Texas and Georgia residences, and via mail to both the residences and his offices in Atlanta, where “Inside the NBA” is broadcast from.

Attorneys alleged in the motion that after an attempt to serve O’Neal in Texas, the process server “was sent an ominous and threatening text message by O’Neal or someone acting on his behalf.” The text message also claimed O’Neal lives in the Bahamas, which the law firm then determined to be untrue, the motion states.

The lawsuit accuses Bankman-Fried, O’Neal and other celebrity spokespeople, including Tom Brady and Larry David, of defrauding FTX investors.

“Mr. O’Neal will now be required to appear in federal court and explain to his millions of followers his ‘FTX: I Am All In’ false advertising campaign,” Moskowitz said Sunday night.

The four-time NBA champion has denied being involved in FTX beyond his sponsorship deal.

“A lot of people think I’m involved, but I was just a paid spokesperson for a commercial,” he said in an interview on CNBC after the lawsuit was filed.

FTX, which collapsed late last year, shuffled customer money between affiliated entities, using new investor funds and loans to pay interest on old ones in an attempt “to maintain the appearance of liquidity,” Moskowitz told CBS News in an email.

“FTX were geniuses at public relations and marketing, and knew that such a massive Ponzi scheme — larger than the Madoff scheme — could only be successful with the help and promotion of the most famous, respected, and beloved celebrities and influencers in the world,” he said.

  • Shaq can’t be served electronically in FTX class-action lawsuit, judge rules

Shaq can’t be served electronically in FTX class-action lawsuit, judge rules

Shaquille O’Neal cannot be served a summons electronically for a class-action lawsuit brought against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and a host of celebrity spokespeople, a Florida judge ruled Tuesday. The plaintiff’s attorneys have unsuccessfully attempted to serve O’Neal in person for several months, court documents allege.

O’Neal is the only defendant in the class-action lawsuit who has not been served, attorneys alleged in a motion requesting permission to serve the “Inside the NBA” analyst electronically. The motion claims that a process server has attempted to serve O’Neal dozens of times at both his Texas and Georgia residences, and via mail to both the residences and his offices in Atlanta, where “Inside the NBA” is broadcast from.

Attorneys allege that the last time the process server attempted to serve O’Neal in Texas, he “was sent an ominous and threatening text message by O’Neal or someone acting on his behalf.” The message also claimed O’Neal lives in the Bahamas, which the law firm determined to be untrue, the motion states.

Attorneys requested they be allowed to serve O’Neal via direct message on his Twitter and Instagram pages, claiming that Texas law allows for electronic service in certain circumstances. But on Tuesday, District Judge K. Michael Moore, of the Southern District of Florida, denied the motion.

“Plaintiffs could, but did not, move to serve Defendant O’Neal under Florida law,” Moore wrote in his decision, adding that “Plaintiffs cite two cases, neither of which are binding in this district, where a court permitted service under the laws of another state.”

An attorney for the plaintiffs said in a statement Wednesday, “We have process servers right now, outside the TNT studios in Atlanta and they are trying to get to Shaquille O’Neal, but security is not letting them in. We will try every avenue to get Shaq served, while he broadcasts the playoffs this week. We take his veiled threats on our process server very seriously.”

As noted in the motion to serve O’Neal electronically, the four-time NBA champion has denied being involved in FTX beyond his sponsorship deal.

“A lot of people think I’m involved, but I was just a paid spokesperson for a commercial,” he said in an interview on CNBC after the lawsuit was filed.

The lawsuit, filed in the wake of the collapse of FTX, accuses Bankman-Fried, O’Neal and a host of other celebrities, including Tom Brady and Larry David, of defrauding investors.

The exchange shuffled customer money between affiliated entities, using new investor funds and loans to pay interest on old ones in an attempt “to maintain the appearance of liquidity,” Adam Moskowitz, the attorney leading the class action, previously said in an email to CBS News.

“FTX were geniuses at public relations and marketing, and knew that such a massive Ponzi scheme — larger than the Madoff scheme — could only be successful with the help and promotion of the most famous, respected, and beloved celebrities and influencers in the world,” he said.

Shaquille O’Neal buys customers’ meals at Houston deli on Christmas Eve

Customers of a Houston deli and restaurant got an early Christmas present this year – getting their Christmas Eve meals paid for by basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal.

Kenny and Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen, co-owned by a third-generation Hungarian deli owner, posted about the encounter on Facebook, saying, “You never know who will walk into Kenny & Ziggy’s.”

“Our friend Shaq paid us a visit today. This was his first time at the new store, and loved it!” the post says along with a selfie Shaq took with one of their employees. “He is such a Men[s]ch – he bought everybody’s meal in The Schmooze Room! What a great guy.”

You never know who will walk into Kenny & Ziggy’s. Our friend Shaq paid us a visit today. This was his first time at…

Posted by Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen on Saturday, December 24, 2022

The Schmooze Room, according to the deli’s website, is the restaurant’s “large private room” used for functions and meetings. It’s not clear how many people were in the room at the time, but it has space to hold up to 75 people.

O’Neal’s gesture at the Houston deli was commended by many in comments on the post, including people who shared their own past positive experiences with the NBA legend.

Houston has become a familiar destination for O’Neal, as his son Shaqir attends and plays basketball for Texas Southern University. Shaq, who went to high school in the state when his father was stationed at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, moved to the Dallas area earlier this year.

Soon after moving into his home in June, he was seen buying a family a new washing machine and a 75-inch television at a local Best Buy, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
