  • Scary Movie 6 Cast Adds SNL Stars, More Returning Actors

    The cast of the upcoming Scary Movie 6, titled Scary MoVIe, has grown, with a handful of returning stars and past Saturday Night Live alumni joining the upcoming film.

    Who has joined the Scary Movie 6 cast?

    According to a new report from Deadline, Damon Wayans Jr. and Kim Wayans will be joining the cast of the upcoming movie. Alongside them, past SNL stars Heidi Gardner, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott are also joining the movie. Elliott and Oteri are both making their returns to the franchise with the casting, although it’s unclear if either will reprise older roles in the Scary Movie franchise they’ve played.

    Anna Faris and Regina Hall will also reprise their respective roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks in the new Scary Movie. Marlon Wayans will also reprise his role as Shorty Meeks, per Entertainment Weekly. “I just lost 20 lbs busting my behind every day ’cause I didn’t wanna show up to set as Shorty buff at 225,” Wayans said. “That’d be lazy of me. I wanna do the work, I wanna look like Shorty. So when I’m able to [in his Shorty voice] have fun and s—, people are able to laugh at me, son.”

    Plot details are being kept under wraps at this point, though Marlon has previously said that some horror movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, and Sinners may have some references or nods in Scary MoVIe.

    The Wayans Brothers are producing the project alongside Alvarez, while Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Lowey, and Thomas Zadra serve as executive producers. Tiddes previously made the feature films 2013’s A Haunted House, 2014’s A Haunted House 2, 2016’s Fifty Shades of Black, 2017’s Naked, and 2019’s Sextuplets.

    Scary MoVIe is scheduled to be released in United States theaters on June 12, 2026, from Paramount Pictures.

  • ‘Scary Movie 6’ Will Make Everyone the Butt of The Joke

    Marlon Wayans has been talking up what’s in store for Scary Movie 6, and according to him, the series’ trademark crass humor will target any and everyone.

    Talking to Entertainment Weekly, he hyped up the upcoming horror-comedy flick as a “no holds barred and equal opportunity offender. We just want to make everybody laugh, and we don’t care if you’re sensitive. Even sensitive people need to laugh at themselves.” While skewering well-known movies like The Exorcist and War of the Worlds, earlier installments had jokes you probably felt bad about laughing at back then (if you did laugh). This is, after all, how the Wayans got popular back in the day, something he noted by highlighting White Chicks making fun of “Black people, white people, [and] Hispanic people. That’s just what we do.”

    If that has your hackles raised, don’t worry: Wayans insisted it’s all the jabs have been done with love, and hoped the jokes in Scary Movie 6 reflect how comedy has evolved in the time since the movies first came out, and acknowledged not every joke is going to totally land. Still, he argued “you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted,” he explains. “I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. […] Just know that we’re not just laughing at you, you get the chance to laugh at others.”

    Mainstream goofy comedies got a resurgence with the success of The Naked Gun back in August, and Wayans is hopeful Scary Movie 6 can continue that trend while working as “a great conversation piece that [lets us] sit down and laugh together, over three generations of people who haven’t had great comedy in a long time.”

    Scary Movie 6 hits theaters on June 12, 2026.

    Halloween is a great time of year for tricks and treats…but if a little marijuana is your treat, maybe you should watch true horror movies.

    October is the month of Halloween and horror movies. Movie marathons and film festivals abound along with special screenings in movie theaters. But, it might not be the thing for growing mainstream who are embracing cannabis.  Maybe you shouldn’t watch horror movies while high. Horror is the fastest-rising film genre, having doubled market share from 4.87 percent in 2013 to 10.08 percent in 2023, While the Conjuring universe, Us, Talk to Me and more might grab the imagination, the effects of marijuana on the mind might give you pause.

    The first horror movie is widely believed to be the 1896 short film Le Manoir du Diable, The House of the Devil. This 3-minute short film was created by French filmmaker Georges Méliès, who is also credited with inventing many filming techniques and tricks.

    Watching horror movies while under the influence of cannabis can lead to a uniquely intense experience, but it often comes with significant drawbacks. Here are several reasons why you might want to reconsider this combination.

    The Shining

    Cannabis can amplify feelings of anxiety and paranoia, which are already prevalent in horror films. The suspenseful music, sudden scares, and disturbing imagery can become overwhelming when paired with the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Many viewers report a heightened state of awareness which can transform a thrilling scare into a panic-inducing moment, making the experience far from enjoyable.

    When stoned, perception of reality can shift dramatically. Horror movies often blur the lines between fiction and reality. Under the influence, this distortion can feel even more pronounced. This heightened sense of immersion might lead to confusion or fear of what is happening on screen could somehow affect you in real life. For instance, films like The Thing and Hellraiser are particularly noted for their ability to evoke intense feelings of claustrophobia and dread, which can spiral into a bad trip when viewed while high.

    Certain horror films are notorious for inducing “bad trips,” especially for those who may already be predisposed to anxiety or have had negative experiences with substances. Movies that delve into psychological horror or body horror—like Tusk or The Trip—can trigger distressing thoughts or feelings that linger long after the film ends. Experts advise avoiding these films if you’re not in a stable mental state.

    There is a case for a few exceptions. Comedy or old school horror can be fun. The original Frankenstein or Young Frankenstein can be great. Some of the 1970s sexy campy horror can be enjoyable and interesting.   Also, Scary Movie, The Cabin in the Woods, Trolls, Little Shop of Horrors.

    Here’s What Was Reported About The ‘Scary Movie’ Franchise & Its Return

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount unveiled its plans for the franchise’s return at CinemaCon on Thursday, April 11. The company has reportedly teamed up with production and distribution company Miramax for the “new take on the franchise.”

    Additionally, the outlet reports Miramax “will finance” the franchise’s sequel while “Paramount will distribute.”

    Furthermore, the outlet adds that Neal H. Moritz, the producer for the ‘Fast & Furious film franchise, will produce the latest ‘Scary Movie.’

    Lastly, it remains unclear whether the sequel will feature the franchise’s original stars, have an entirely new cast, or a mix of original and new actors. PEOPLE notes that the franchise’s initial film, which was released in 2000, starred actors such as Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans.

    Paramount reportedly did not share a release date for the sequel, per The Hollywood Reporter. However, the latest installment in the ‘Scary Movie’ franchise is expected to be released sometime in 2025.

    Reboot Reports About THIS Television Show Also Surfaced Earlier This Month

    Fans of the television series and movies from the early 2000s also received more good news earlier this month. As The Shade Room previously reported, production company 51 Minds revealed its plans to reboot the former competitive dating series, ‘Flavor of Love.’

    The show aired between 2006 and 2008 and has spawned viral, meme-able moments that still keep the internet in a chokehold to date.

    Ultimately, the company revealed that production is working with the show’s former bachelor, Flavor Flav, to “reimagine” the series.

    “We’re in the process of working with Flavor Flav to reimagine what Flavor of Love can feel like in this in this decade, which is very different. The project is really fun, a comedy in the dating space,” Julie Pizzi, President of Bunim/Murray Productions and 51 Minds, explained to Deadline earlier this month.

    However, they are adding a twist this time around.
