The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner isn’t focused on his ex speaking out about the ups and downs of their nearly three-year relationship.
“My only response is that I have so many positive things in my life right now,” Turner told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday, November 30, when asked about the recent report regarding his previous relationships. “I have the wonderful love of Theresa, my partner. I don’t have time to reflect on comments like this. I’m happy to look forward.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Turner dated a handful of women after his wife, Toni, died in 2017. One of those women, referred to by the name Carolyn in the story published on Wednesday, November 28, claimed that Turner once fat-shamed her before joining him at his high school reunion.
“I’m not taking you to the reunion looking like that,” Carolyn, who told the outlet that she had recently gained 10 pounds due to stress, alleged Turner said while pointing to her body. The comment served as the catalyst for their January 2020 breakup.
From breakups to makeups and everything in between, Bachelor Nation has seen it all — and it hasn’t always been pretty. Loyal fans of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette often put in the work to uncover secrets from contestants’ pasts as they search for love on the ABC reality franchise. During Matt James‘ historic season, […]
Turner subsequently asked Carolyn to move out of his Indiana lake house and while packing, Carolyn told the outlet that she fell down the stairs and was taken to the ER, something she says Turner believed to be an excuse to delay her move and sue him for the injury. As a result, Turner asked her to leave the property one week earlier than planned and stay in a hotel.
“I really wish this would’ve worked out,’” Carolyn claimed Turner told her as he helped her to her car with her walker. “Call me when you get to your hotel, so I know you made it safe.”
Carolyn, who is 14 years Turner’s junior, met the Bachelor Nation star while working at the Vera French Mental Health Center in Iowa and claimed they began dating him one month after Toni’s death. Their relationship is contradictory to Turner’s claims on The Golden Bachelor that his love life had been on pause since his wife’s passing.
“The idea that I’d go out with a recent widower just mortifies me,” she told the outlet. “I just didn’t see it. Until I went back and looked at my text messages, I never realized Gerry’s texts had turned hot and heavy so relatively soon.”
The Golden Bachelor’s debut season has brought out every emotion in Bachelor Nation — including relief that Gerry Turner will find love. Fans watched leading man Gerry begin his journey to find love after loss when the show premiered in September 2023. He kicked things off by opening up about his 43-year marriage to his late […]
She also alleged that Turner repeated sweet comments to his Golden Bachelor contestants that he previously said to her. Carolyn further alleged that he lied about not having been kissed in six years. “And I’m like, ‘What?’ He’s got to know that people are paying attention to this show,” she stated. “I’m just flabbergasted.”

Us Weekly has reached out to ABC for comment.
The outlet’s report came one day before Turner’s Golden Bachelor journey came to an end on ABC. After weeks of romantic dates and heartfelt moments, Turner chose to spend the rest of his life with Theresa Nist. A live wedding special is set for January 4.
Jamie Foxx has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while dining at a NYC restaurant in 2015.
According to documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday, November 22, an unnamed woman is suing Foxx, 55, and Catch NYC & Roof restaurant for compensatory and punitive damages, claiming she had to undergo medical treatment and suffered pain and emotional distress as a result of “sexual assault, abuse, assault and battery.” Representatives for Foxx have not yet responded to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
In the lawsuit, the woman claims that Foxx began touching her inappropriately after she asked him to take a photo with her inside the restaurant. Foxx, who she says was sitting one table away, allegedly agreed to the snap before telling the woman she had a “supermodel body’ and smelled “so good,” per TMZ.
As they posed for the picture, Foxx allegedly started touching the woman by putting both hands on her waist and moving them under her top to rub her breasts. She claims several people saw what had happened but turned the other way despite noticing her trying to break away from the actor.
While Hollywood may appear to be all glitz and glam on the surface, the industry has seen its fair share of scandals through the years. The New York Times and the New Yorker first published investigative pieces in 2017 that accused disgruntled movie producer Harvey Weinstein of decades of sexual assault and harassment. Soon after, Weinstein stood trial and was […]
Foxx then allegedly slid his hands into the woman’s pants and put his fingers on and inside her vagina and anus. The woman claims that the alleged assault stopped once her friend came to check on her and saw what was happening.

BALTIMORE — A federal judge has denied a compassionate release request filed by a former Baltimore police officer convicted in 2018 as part of the department’s Gun Trace Task Force corruption scandal.
Daniel Hersl, the oldest member of the deeply corrupt and now-disbanded Baltimore police unit, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars after a jury found him guilty of racketeering and robbery.
Last month, he filed the request for release, saying he was recently diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes, liver, lungs and more. He said a prison doctor concluded he has less than 18 months to live, and asked for home detention.
Hersl, 53, was one of eight indicted members of the once-lauded Gun Trace Task Force, which was created to get illegal guns off the streets of a city plagued by violent crime. But instead, members robbed drug dealers, planted narcotics and firearms on innocent people and assaulted random civilians. More than a dozen officers have been convicted in the scandal since 2017. Hundreds of cases that hinged on their testimony were later dropped.
Prosecutors said Hersl “devalued” people he dealt with as an officer and “abused his power to prey on them.” They said he also ripped off taxpayers by committing rampant overtime fraud, including an entire month that he spent refurbishing his house while on the clock.
In his order Monday denying Hersl’s request, U.S. District Judge George L. Russell III noted the seriousness of the ex-detective’s crimes, saying they “irreparably damaged … the reputation of the Baltimore City Police Department and all of the many law abiding public servants therein.”
“A message certainly needs to be sent that if you commit criminal conduct or otherwise engage in a racketeering conspiracy you will be held accountable and punished,” Russell wrote.
In a last-minute court filing Monday, Hersl’s attorney, William Purpura, quoted recent emails from Hersl in which he complains of “constant pain” and says he hopes to “make the trip home to spend time with my son & family before my days are done.”
Russell said the federal Bureau of Prisons will continue to manage Hersl’s medical care and allow him visits with his family during his ongoing incarceration.

Chris Lopez held nothing back while sharing his thoughts about pregnant ex Kailyn Lowry in a lengthy social media rant.
“Bro, ain’t nobody more miserable than my baby mama, bro. My first baby mama, Kail Lowry,” he claimed in an Instagram Story video posted on Monday, November 20. “Ain’t nobody more miserable than that chick.”
He went on to accuse Lowry, 31, of “holding” their kids from him while “passing them on to motherf–king nannies” at the same time. “[The] kids [are] on Thanksgiving break and you ain’t gonna let the kids be with their dad, but it’s technically dad’s week?” Lopez stated. “You need to grow the f–k up, seriously, and stay the f–k off your back.”
Lopez and Lowry dated off and on from 2016 to 2020, during which time they welcomed sons Lux, 6, and Creed, 3. Lowry also shares son Isaac, 13, with ex Jo Rivera, son Lincoln, 10, with ex-husband Javi Marroquin, and son Rio, 12 months, with boyfriend Elijah Scott. She is currently pregnant with her and Scott’s twins.
Teen Mom 2 viewers have been following Kailyn Lowry’s love life for nearly a decade on MTV. The Pennsylvania native rose to fame on a 2010 episode of 16 & Pregnant. During the episode, Lowry and her high school boyfriend, Jo Rivera, welcomed son Isaac, who was born in January 2010. Their relationship didn’t last, […]
In a follow-up video, Lopez alleged that Lowry has been “lying and manipulating” people to make it difficult for him to spend time with their kids. “Y’all thinking I’m f–king lying and s–t? What do I got to lie for?”
According to Lopez, tension between the twosome came to a head on Monday after Lowry allegedly interfered with one of their son’s parent-teacher conferences.
“I just left my son’s parent-teacher conference. When I signed up for my son’s parent-teacher conference, his mother was not signed up at all,” he explained. “Now, it’s ironic that I mention that I’m gonna be at my son’s parent-teacher conference today, and then, all of a sudden, the teacher just mentioned, ‘Oh, yeah, she just signed up for a parent-teacher conference, so I can’t give you the papers now.’ Cool, alright.”
Courtesy of Chris Lopez/Instagram
Lopez wrapped up his rant by saying “thank you” to Lowry, noting, “This whole thing today had just made me realize I’m gonna beat the dogs–t out of my opponent on December 8.” He was seemingly referring to an upcoming court battle with Lowry, but Us Weekly couldn’t confirm that the duo have any legal proceedings scheduled for the near future.
The former couple have been through several ups and downs since calling it quits. Last year, Lowry revealed via Instagram that it can be “super challenging” to coparent with Lopez. “The boys only have two parents, and when one is falling short, I have to pick up the slack and fill in the gaps emotionally, physically and financially,” she wrote in March 2022. Lopez did not respond to Us‘ request for comment at the time.
Kailyn Lowry is a proud mom and loves showing life with her little ones on social media. The MTV personality became a mom in 2010 when she and her then-boyfriend, Jo Rivera, welcomed son Isaac. While the high school sweethearts split shortly after, the former couple continue to coparent. Rivera said during a November 2020 episode […]
Earlier this year, Lowry called her time with Lopez her “most tumultuous and toxic relationship” on a May episode of the “Dumb Blonde” podcast. In addition to accusing Lopez of cheating on her with multiple women and choking her while holding their son, she claimed that he once tried to smother her on a couch.
“I don’t know what took over me but I fought for my f–king life,” she recalled of the alleged incident, which she said occurred while she was pregnant with Creed in 2019. “I just remember just turning my head a certain way and being able to, like, gasp for air. I still did not want to call the f–king police. I was so just, like, ‘I want you to choose me, I want you to get better.’ You know? It was sick.”
Days later, Lopez denied trying to “kill” Lowry in a TikTok Live video, but he admitted to committing acts of domestic violence against her, including attempting to smother her. Lopez was arrested in January 2020 for violating an order of protection previously granted to Lowry in October 2019 after he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and punched her in the stomach.
A team effort! When it comes to raising their little ones, many Teen Mom stars have chosen to put their kids first by coparenting with their exes. Working together after a split isn’t always easy — and Jenelle Evans gave fans of the MTV show a glimpse of that when she called Nathan Griffith out […]
Lopez was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor offensive touching and one count of not complying with a bond order in August 2020. His two-year prison sentence was suspended and he served a probation sentence and was required to undergo domestic violence classes.

An Irish businessman who survived a kidnapping by the IRA and triggered a scandal that shook Ireland’s politics has died
ByThe Associated Press
November 19, 2023, 12:16 PM
LONDON — Ben Dunne, an Irish business tycoon who survived a kidnapping by the IRA and later triggered a scandal that shook the cozy world of Ireland’s politics, has died. He was 74.
Dunne’s son Robert confirmed his death to the news website Extra.ie. Irish media reported that the elder Dunn died of a heart attack Saturday during a trip to Dubai. Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of the sudden death of an Irish citizen in Dubai and was providing consular assistance.
The Cork-born retail baron’s name was one of the most ubiquitous in Ireland thanks to the supermarket chain Dunnes Stores, founded by his father, and the Ben Dunne Gyms fitness centers.
In 1981, masked gunmen from the Irish Republican Army kidnapped Dunne as he was on his way to open a store in Northern Ireland. He was released a week later, reportedly after a ransom was paid.
In 1992 he was arrested in Florida after threatening to jump from a 17th floor hotel balcony in Orlando and charged with cocaine possession.
His sister took over the family business and commissioned an accounting review that uncovered details of Dunne’s payments totaling millions of dollars to politicians, including former Prime Minister Charles Haughey. The revelations caused a huge scandal and inspired mammoth state probes into the scale of under-the-table lobbying in Irish politics.
Ireland’s current prime minister, Leo Varadkar, said Dunne “really was larger than life.”
“He led a life less ordinary and in turn he made some mistakes in life,” Varadkar said. “The best people do. He never allowed that to defeat him or hold him back. He touched the lives of tens of thousands who will mourn his loss.”
Dunne’s son Robert said: “Overall, in the final analysis, he was a good and decent man.”
Dunne is survived by his wife, Mary, and their four children.

Tristan Thompsonis finally ready to take responsibility for the role he played in his relationship with Jordyn Woods.
During a new episode of The Kardashians, which started streaming on Thursday, November 16, Tristan, 32, told Khloé Kardashian he had major regrets about his past infidelity. More specifically, the athlete had time to reflect on how his makeout with Jordyn, 26, affected not just Khloé, 39, but her family as well.
“If someone told me, do you think Kylie [Jenner] misses Jordyn? I’d probably say yes. And I feel bad about that. Especially me being the older one,” he said. “I should have handled it differently. I should have handled it more as the older person. As the wiser [person].”
Tristan admitted that it took time for him to realize his mistakes, adding, “Sometimes for men they don’t realize until they are 40 or 50 when the train is already gone. Hopefully, my train hasn’t left.”
Tristan Thompson‘s dating life has made headlines over the years, and not only because of his high-profile relationship with Khloé Kardashian. The athlete dated Jordan Craig from 2014 until 2016. Following their split, Craig discovered she was expecting a child. The exes welcomed son Prince in December 2016. Us Weekly confirmed that the professional basketball […]
After initially staying together, Khloé and Tristan called it quits in February 2019 when he kissed Kylie’s former best friend Jordyn. (Jordyn was 21 and Tristan was 28 at the time.)
Us Weekly confirmed in August 2020 that Khloé and Tristan were giving their romance another chance. Less than one year later, they split again. The pair briefly reconciled in late 2021 before ending it for good.
News broke in December 2021 that the athlete was being sued by Maralee Nichols for child support. One month later, Tristan acknowledged that he is the father to the fitness model’s son, Theo, after requesting genetic testing. It was later revealed that Khloé and Tristan’s surrogate was pregnant at the same time, giving birth to their son, Tatum, in summer 2022.
The former friends reunited on multiple occasions earlier this summer. Before Jordyn and Kylie publicly crossed paths, Tristan sat down with Khloé’s youngest sister to finally address the drama.
Keeping up with the drama. Tristan Thompson’s life in the limelight has been filled with controversy — from cheating scandals and paternity claims to high-profile breakups. The Sacramento Kings player joined the NBA in 2011, but it wasn’t until he started seeing Khloé Kardashian in August 2016 that his personal life became so public. Thompson’s […]
“It really bothers me because we had such a dope relationship. But everyone got affected differently. You were affected the most by the situation,” he told Kylie in Thursday’s episode. “You lost Jordyn who was a big part of your life. I know how much she meant to your life and your connection. You were two peas in a pod so the fact that I put myself into the situation wasn’t right and wasn’t smart.”
Tristan continued: “I want to say I am sorry. I feel bad about it. … The fact that I came with my poor decisions and being a f—king idiot who was young and stupid, I wanted to say I am sorry again for that.”
“I think I was so codependent with Jordyn that I could never imagine my life without her. We would have probably still been living together. She needed to grow without me and I needed to grow without her,” she added. “Jordyn and I are cool. We still talk and catch up. We are good.”
Tristan subsequently asked Kylie to “relay” his apology to Jordyn as well before hitting the next stop on his apology tour. His trip to Kourtney Kardashian‘s house started off a little awkward when Tristan ran into 11-year-old daughter, Penelope. (Kourtney, 44, revealed in an episode from earlier this month that her dislike for Tristan rubbed off on her daughter.)
“I was cheating for an action or for a feeling. But it also came down to not really knowing how to love. That’s the way I grew up,” he noted. “With therapy, I realized my childhood upbringing, I saw how my dad would treat my mom. As a kid when you see that, the trauma where you can’t protect your mom because you’re so young, you numb your emotions. It’s my defense mechanism.”
Tristan went on to share how therapy has allowed him to address his mistakes. “I never understood how to feel pain or emotions because the most important person in my life — even if she was treated terribly — was always happy,” he continued. “I have never seen a man treat a woman good. I have never seen a man not cheat on a woman. I have never seen a good husband.”
In response, Kourtney made it clear that she was still upset with Tristan for hurting Khloé.

“I don’t think you deserve Khloé. The actions that you have done is not something she deserves,” the Poosh founder said before a “To Be Continued” message appeared at the end of the episode.
Hulu releases new episodes of The Kardashians every Thursday.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing, a parody show inspired by the trial, will open at the U.K.’s Pleasance London Main House Cabaret on December 13 and run through December 23. Created by British theater group Awkward Productions, actors Linus Karp and Joseph Martin will star as Paltrow, 51, and optometrist Terry Sanderson, respectively.
“She’s the Goop-founding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously-uncoupling Hollywood superstar. He’s a retired Optometrist from Utah. In 2016, they went skiing,” reads a description of the musical shared via Instagram. “On the slopes of Deer Valley, their worlds collided and so did they — literally. Ouch. In 2023, they went to court. Double ouch.”
The show’s official poster features Karp as Paltrow dressed in winter attire and holding a candle that reads, “This smells like a lawsuit,” poking fun at Paltrow’s infamous “This Smells Like My Vagina” Goop candle. Martin’s Sanderson, meanwhile, stands in the background with a black eye and crooked glasses.
Getting in on the action. Gwyneth Paltrow‘s ski crash trial has inspired tons of memes since it began on March 21 — and her fellow celebrities can’t help sharing their own jokes about the court proceedings. “Well, we lost a half day of skiing,” Busy Philipps wrote via Instagram on March 25, sharing a selfie […]
Gwyneth Goes Skiing is not the only project based on the trial in the works. Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland announced in July that the case would be turned into a docuseries titled Gwyneth vs Terry: The Ski Crash Trial.
Sanderson, 76, sued Paltrow in January 2019 for allegedly crashing into him while skiing in Deer Valley, Utah, three years prior. In court docs obtained by Us Weekly at the time, Sanderson claimed that he suffered “a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries” after Paltrow lost control on the slopes and hit him in the back. He asked for more than $3 million in damages.
Sanderson also claimed that Paltrow’s ski instructor “failed to send help” after the incident and “filed a false report to protect his client.” Paltrow, for her part, responded to the accusations in a statement to Us, noting, “This lawsuit is completely without merit and we expect to be vindicated.” She filed a countersuit in February 2019, claiming that she sustained a “full body blow” after Sanderson “plowed into her back.”

While testifying on the third day of the trial, Paltrow claimed that she initially thought the crash was a sexual assault. “I was skiing and two skis came between my skis forcing my legs apart and then there was a body pressing against me and there was a very strange grunting noise so my brain was trying to make sense of what was happening,” she said. “I thought, ‘Is this a practical joke? Is someone doing something perverted? This is really, really strange.’ My mind was going very quickly and I was trying to ascertain what was happening.”
Courtroom chic? Gwyneth Paltrow has put on quite the fashion show while in Utah for a civil trial. The Shakespeare in Love actress, 50, has looked calm, collected and stylish while defending her name following a 2016 skiing accident. Paltrow is being sued by optometrist Terry Sanderson for allegedly crashing into him on the slopes […]
While Sanderson’s daughter, Shae, testified in favor of her father on March 24, Paltrow’s daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 17, vocalized their support for their mother. Moses, for his part, stated in his deposition that he “briefly” witnessed “the collision” while skiing with Paltrow’s instructor. Apple claimed that she had “never seen my mom shaken up like that and she was very clearly visibly upset and she had some sort of pain.” (Paltrow shares her children with ex-husband Chris Martin.)

Paltrow ultimately won the case on March 30 after the jury found her not liable. She received $1 in damages. According to Extra, Paltrow told Sanderson, “I wish you well,” before exiting the courtroom, to which he replied, “Thank you, dear.”
In Goop we trust? Gwyneth Paltrow has courted controversy since launching her wellness and lifestyle brand, Goop, in 2008. What started as a weekly newsletter from the Clean Plate author, grew to an expansive website that spawned a fashion line, wellness products, recipe portal, podcast, magazine and health summit, among other projects. “We operate from […]
Last month, Paltrow reflected on the “weird” legal drama, telling The New York Times that she wanted to move forward. “I don’t know that I’ve even processed it. It was something I felt like I survived,” she said. “Sometimes in my life it takes me a long time to look back and process something and understand something.”
Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz opened up about how the public’s strong reaction towards Scandoval affected them.
“It’s a weird thing to be publicly shamed,” Schwartz, 41, exclusively told Us Weekly on Friday, November 3, following the Vanderpump Rules panel at BravoCon. “I was guilty by association or however they want to frame it, but it was very bizarre at times. I could appreciate the absurdity of it, but other times it was very sad and kind of terrifying.”
Schwartz teased that at some point in the future, he and Sandoval, 40, will be able to “go back and look” at all the DMs they received at the height of the scandal.
Earlier that day, Us confirmed that Sandoval was repeatedly booed during the reality series’ panel during the first day of BravoCon in Las Vegas — which goes until Sunday, November 5. While on stage, moderator Karamo Brown asked the cast — which included Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney, Lala Kent, James Kennedy and Scheana Shay in addition to Schwartz and Sandoval — if anyone was nervous to be there. Sandoval subsequently raised his hand, leading to a negative reaction from the crowd.
Gabe Ginsberg/Getty Images Bravo made sure to “mention it all” at BravoCon 2023, dropping show teasers and more bombshell revelations. The third annual convention kicked off in Las Vegas on Friday, November 3, with more than 150 Bravolebrities appearing at Caesars Forum throughout the weekend. “I predict chaos. I predict people overdrinking and being overserved […]
While the panel ultimately went how Sandoval expected it to go, he joked to Us that it “felt great” to get booed by the audience.
“It gives you a little dose of reality [for] lack of a better term really,” Sandoval exclusively told Us. “Sort of keeps you grounded. I dunno.”
Rich Polk/Bravo
Sandoval cemented himself as a reality TV villain earlier this year when news broke in March that he was having a months-long affair with costar Raquel Leviss while he and Madix, 38, were dating. Sandoval and Madix called it quits after nine years in the wake of the scandal famously dubbed Scandoval.
The public scrutiny was so bad that Sandoval confessed to Us that he thought about not returning to VPR after he wrapped up season 10 but ultimately decided to stay on the series for the next season.
Tom Schwartz found himself on the receiving end of ex-wife Katie Maloney’s fiery quips during BravoCon’s Vanderpump Rules panel — but Tom Sandoval got most of the heat. “Hi Katie, you look fabulous,” Schwartz, 41, told Katie, 36, while on the Golden Stage at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas on Friday, November 3. Katie didn’t […]
“I think as time went on when I get to times where I find life really hard to deal with, I think it’s good to challenge yourself,” he explained. “Do what’s hard, you know what I mean?”
“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative,” Lisa Marie wrote in a 2022 email to Coppola, 52, which was obtained by Variety on Thursday, November 2. “As his daughter, I don’t read this and see any of my father in this character. I don’t read this and see my mother’s perspective of my father. I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why?”
In a second email, Lisa Marie told the director that she would “be forced to be in a position where I will have to openly say how I feel about the film and go against you, my mother and this film publicly” if Coppola went ahead with the project. The messages were sent four months before Lisa Marie died in January after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest at the age of 54, according to the outlet.
Priscilla — which is written, directed and produced by Coppola and stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi— tells the story of Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s romance, which began when they were 24 and 14, respectively. The film pulls inspiration from Priscilla’s own 1985 memoir,Elvis and Me, recounting the twosome’s — at times tumultuous — relationship from her young perspective.
Baz Lurhmann’s Oscar-nominated Elvis Presley biopic took the world by storm — but now it’s time for Priscilla Presley to shine. After Elvis dominated the 2022 awards season, Priscilla — which is written, directed and produced by Sofia Coppola — takes a different approach to Elvis and Priscilla’s love story. Premiering in November, the film […]
The movie was an official selection of this year’s Venice Film Festival earlier this year, garnering critical praise and earning Spaeny, 25, a best actress prize.
When it comes to how Priscilla, 85, feels about the film, she told audiences in Venice that Coppola “did an amazing job” and “really put everything out for her that I could.” Lisa Marie, however, shared in her emails that she feared her mother “isn’t seeing the nuance here or realizing the way in which Elvis will be perceived when this movie comes out.”
“I feel protective over my mother who has spent her whole life elevating my father’s legacy,” she wrote. “I am worried she doesn’t understand the intentions behind this film or the outcome it will have.”
Lisa Marie praised Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis biopic, which she called “a break from suffering and a ray of light that hit us last year” that made 15-year-old twins Harper and Finley Lockwood “so proud and honored to be his granddaughters.” (Lisa Marie shared Harper and Finley with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. She was also mom to daughter Riley and son Benjamin, whom she shared with ex Danny Keough.)
“It made them feel blessed for a moment and less cursed in life,” she said. “It made us all so proud because it was a true depiction of who he really was.”
Lisa Marie noted that Harper was sent a trade announcement about Priscilla going into production — and that her family was going to “have to endure another hit” in their lives from a “movie about her grandfather that is going to try to make him look really, really bad but it’s not true.”
“I had to explain that her beloved grandmother is supporting it,” she continued. “These two little girls have been through so much in the past 7 years, enduring my divorce and horrific custody battle and then losing their brother. We’ve all been drowning.”
A24 Films
She added that she did not understand Coppola’s “need to attempt to take my father down on the heels of such an incredible film” by ” using the excuse” of telling her mother’s story from Coppola’s “very dark and jaded reality.”
Coppola, for her part, revealed how she responded to Lisa Marie’s claims through a statement to Variety from her rep on Thursday. “I hope that when you see the final film you will feel differently and understand I’m taking great care in honoring your mother, while also presenting your father with sensitivity and complexity,” she wrote, per the outlet.
While Lisa Marie noted in her emails that Coppola should “understand” how she feels due to her own famous family — she is the daughter of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola — Sofia previously shared that her connection to the material is actually what inspired make Priscilla in the first place.
Elvis Presley was a music icon through the years, and his family became just as legendary. The “Jailhouse Rock” crooner, who rose to fame in 1950s, died in August 1977 at the age of 42. His only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, had been the one to discover his passing before calling his ex-girlfriend Linda Thompson. […]
“I was struck by how much I connected with it emotionally. I thought it was just going to be a fun adventure, and I was surprised by how relatable her story was,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in August. “And I always like themes about finding one’s identity and teenage girls growing into adulthood.”
Sofia added that coming of age in the shadow of a public figure felt relatable to her own experience. “I know from my family what it’s like to be inside a show business family. I know that growing up, people are looking at you in a different way.” she said.
Over the years, the California native has appeared on her fair share of shows at the network. She rose to stardom playing Sam Puckett on iCarly from 2007 to 2012. After the show ended, McCurdy continued to explore Sam’s story in the spinoff series Sam & Cat. The series focused on a crossover between Sam and Victorious’s Cat Valentine, who was played by Ariana Grande.
During her time at Nickelodeon, the former actress also made small appearances in Zoey 101, True Jackson, VP, Fred: The Movie, Big Time Rush and Victorious.
Since her departure from the industry, McCurdy has discussed how her tumultuous relationship with her mother, Debra McCurdy, influenced her acting career. Following her mom’s death in 2013, Jennette chose to move on from acting to explore other opportunities.

In August 2022, Jennette detailed her difficult past as an actress in her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. “My whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited,” she told The New York Times at the time. “It still gives my nervous system a reaction to say it. There were cases where people had the best intentions and maybe didn’t know what they were doing. And also cases where they did — they knew exactly what they were doing.”

During a new episode of The Kardashians, which started streaming on Thursday, November 2, Kourtney, 44, told her 11-year-old daughter, Penelope, that Khloé Kardashian would pick her up from their Palm Springs home.
“P, [Khloé] is going to come grab you on the golf cart. Tristan is with them. Is that OK?” she asked Penelope, who responded, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Kourtney elaborated on why Penelope might not want to spend time with Tristan, 32, telling the cameras, “I feel like she gets it from me. I told her — on the first day of school — [that] I was so triggered by him. I don’t know why.”
Big things in store! While making their mark on the entertainment and business world, the Kardashian-Jenner clan are raising the next generation. Kourtney Kardashian was the first of Kris Jenner’s children to have kids of her own. The Poosh creator and Scott Disick welcomed their eldest son, Mason, in December 2009, followed by daughter Penelope […]
“I feel like we all brush it off and are fine. I was just so triggered and I was like, ‘I just can’t do it anymore. I just can’t,’” Kourtney recalled. “Tristan has made horrible decisions and choices with my sister. There’s times when I am so triggered by him that I cannot be around him. Then there’s times where I just let it go because we just want harmony. He’s the father of my niece and nephew.”

Tristan spoke with Penelope when he arrived at Kourtney’s house with Khloé, 39. Penelope, however, offered a greeting to Tristan before turning away in the other direction.
Us confirmed in August 2022 that Khloé and Tristan welcomed their second child, son Tatum, via surrogate. They started planning the process before Tristan’s personal life made headlines.
In the aftermath of the drama, Tristan received praise from Khloé’s loved ones, including mom Kris Jenner and sister Kim Kardashian.
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats? Khloé Kardashian has not held back when it comes to her relationship with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Tristan Thompson. Two days before the reality star gave birth to daughter True in Cleveland on April 12, 2018, footage surfaced of the NBA star kissing and cozying up to […]
“Khloe and Tristan have definitely worked out this rhythm. Wherever he is needed, he is running the kids around and he is doing the errands,” Kris said on the October 12 episode of The Kardashians. “We know Tristan has made some mistakes. I know he is really sorry for the way he hurt Khloé. And I am sure he regrets all of those mistakes every single day.”
“I know guys are gonna hate me for this and you’re gonna hate us and you’re gonna think Khloé is whatever,” Kim, who shares North, 10, Saint, 7, Chicago, 5, and Psalm, 4, with Kanye West, said on the Hulu series. “It’s so crazy because he’s such a good friend and he’s such a good, like, Dad, but he just couldn’t get it together in that area of, like, being a faithful boyfriend.”
Later in Thursday’s episode, Khloé made it clear she supported Penelope’s lukewarm reaction to Tristan.
Keep your friends close … but your exes closer? The Kardashian-Jenner family is known to stay on good terms with their exes. Kris Jenner seemingly set the precedent when she stayed friendly with ex-husband Robert Kardashian Sr. before his 2003 death. “It took me a couple of years after Robert and I got divorced, but […]
“I am really proud of myself for where me and Tristan are and how I am able to allow him to be the father he wants to be. But where I am at with Tristan has nothing to do with what I expect my family members to do,” the Good American cofounder said in a confessional. “If Penelope has her feelings about Tristan, then rightfully so. And good for you, girl.”
“I want Penelope to have these feelings, and I don’t want to talk her out of them. I don’t want this behavior to be something that I am validating or I am justifying,” she continued. “I want her to know that how she is feeling is the right way to feel. We shouldn’t accept someone treating us like this.”
Hulu releases new episodes of The Kardashians every Thursday.
“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done,” Hampshire, 42, wrote in a statement shared via Instagram on Wednesday, November 1. “For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.”
She continued: “I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe. Domestic abuse is never, ever funny. These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future I will do better. I’m so sorry.”
Hampshire deleted photos of herself dressed as Depp, 60, complete with drawn-on tattoos and accessories that referenced the actor’s 2022 defamation case against his ex-wife Heard, 37. Hampshire’s pal feigned tears in the snaps and donned a white top reminiscent of the one Heard wore when she cried on the stand in May 2022.
When it comes to celebrity Halloween costumes, not every idea is a winner — and some outfits result in major backlash from fans. Julianne Hough received mixed reviews when she dressed up as Uzo Aduba’s Orange Is the New Black character, Crazy Eyes, in 2013. Hough donned an orange jail jumpsuit and Crazy Eyes’ iconic […]
A plastic turd could be seen in Hampshire’s jacket pocket, a nod to Depp’s claim that he discovered “human fecal matter” on his bed in 2016 following a fight with Heard. The Canadian actress also posed with a bottle of wine, which some social media users interpreted as a reference to Heard’s claim that Depp sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle in 2015.
“Wow. This is obviously in poor taste but the wine bottle prop? Gross,” one Reddit user wrote.

Others felt that the time for the controversial costume had come and gone as a jury ruled in favor of Depp in June 2022, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
“It really is a special kind of depraved to keep the costumes going a full year and a half later. @emilyhampshire clearly felt the need to rise to the task,” one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were married for less than two years, but they’ve weathered a ton of ups and downs since their 2016 split. The Oscar nominee and the Aquaman star met on the set of the 2011 film The Rum Diary, which began production in early 2009. At the time, Depp was in […]
Another person shared a similar sentiment via Reddit. “Well, this is insanely disappointing. Also, even if it weren’t offensive, this costume is so late to the party,” they wrote.
Depp first sued Heard, whom he was married to from 2015 to 2017, in February 2019 over her December 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post. Heard described herself as a domestic violence survivor in the piece, but didn’t mention Depp by name.
After the jury ruled in Depp’s favor, the actor shared a lengthy statement noting that he was “truly humbled” to have his “life back.” He concluded the message with, “Truth never perishes.”
Looking back. Johnny Depp has had several high-profile relationships and breakups throughout the years, which have remained poignant memories for many of his famous exes. “The first big thing I acted in was Cheers – and my first love, little Johnny Depp, was waiting outside the door,” Sherilyn Fenn — who dated the Pirates of the Caribbean star between […]
Depp’s legal victory came three years after a judge ruled against him during his 2020 libel lawsuit against The Sun. (Depp sued the U.K. publication over an April 2018 story which cited allegations Heard had previously made detailing 14 different instances of abuse.) The judge ruled in October 2020 that The Sun’s claims against Depp were “substantially true.”

Depp and Heard officially settled their defamation lawsuit in December 2022, which the Aquaman actress called “a very difficult decision” in an Instagram statement at the time.
“It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed,” Heard wrote, calling “the vilification [she] faced on social media” an “amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimised when they come forward.”

Robert De Niro’s girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, was not a fan of his relationship with his former assistant Graham Chase Robinson.
De Niro, 80, testified against Robinson, 41, in a New York City court on Monday, October 30, four years after Robinson accused the actor of being an abusive boss during her time working for him from 2008 to 2019. According to the Associated Press, during his testimony, De Niro said Chen was suspicious of Robinson. The AP reports that it was suggested that Robinson acted like De Niro’s wife and had “imaginary intimacy” with him.
“She felt there was something there and she may have been right,” De Niro said of his girlfriend’s observations. Chen and De Niro met on the set of 2015’s The Intern and began dating in 2021. The couple welcomed their first child together — De Niro’s seventh — daughter Gia, in April.
Robinson’s attorney, Andrew Macurdy, denied any romance speculation between his client and De Niro, stating, “There was never anything romantic between the two of them.” Macurdy subsequently alleged that Chen became jealous of De Niro’s reliance on Robinson to do multiple tasks such as decorating his Christmas tree, acting as his emergency contact, writing greeting cards for his children and transporting him to the hospital after he cracked his back in 2017.
Offscreen love. In addition to his prolific acting career, Robert De Niro has welcomed six children and adopted one more with several different partners over the years. The Raging Bull star wed actress Diahnne Abbott in 1976 after meeting her on the set of his film Taxi Driver. That same year, the twosome welcomed son […]
In the lawsuit, Robinson accused De Niro yelling at her, calling her names and making sexist remarks. Since Robinson quit her job in 2019, Macurdy said his client has been unable to find work and is afraid to leave her home. She is suing for $12 million in emotional damages and harm against her reputation.
De Niro reportedly appeared aggravated during Monday’s trial and raised his voice twice during his testimony, per the AP. When asked whether he thought Robinson was a good employee, he responded, “Not after everything I’m going through now.”

The Killers of the Flower Moon star shouted again while discussing putting Robinson in charge of some of the preparations of a five-bedroom NYC townhouse he bought for himself and Chen. “It’s not like I’m asking for her to go out there and scrape floors and mop the floor,” he stated, adding, “So this is all nonsense!”
De Niro’s attorney, Richard Schoenstein, described him as a “kind, reasonable [and] generous” boss and told jurors that employees of De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, would prove that in their upcoming testimonies. Schoenstein claimed that Robinson “always played the victim” and described her as “condescending, demeaning, controlling [and] abusive.”
Full house! While Robert De Niro is one of Hollywood’s most esteemed actors, he also takes pride in his role as the father of seven. The Oscar winner became a parent in 1976 when he welcomed son Raphael with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, whom he married after working on the film Taxi Driver together. […]
In her October 2019 lawsuit, obtained by NBC News, Robinson stated that some of the “demanding duties” that she did for De Niro included buttoning his shirts, scratching his back and cleaning his apartment. Regarding his sexist comments, Robinson called her former boss “someone who has clung to old mores,” adding, “He does not accept the idea that men should treat women as equals. He does not care that gender discrimination in the workplace violates the law.”

Robinson also alleged Canal Productions underpaid her due to her gender. In a countersuit, Canal Productions sued Robinson for allegedly spending thousands of dollars of the company’s money, binge-watching Netflix on the job and transferring hundreds of thousands dollars in airline miles to her personal account, among other allegations, according to The New York Times.
Following the initial news of the lawsuit, lawyer Tom Harvey called Robinson’s allegations against De Niro “beyond absurd” in a statement to Us Weekly.
Fox, 37, tagged the official SAG-AFTRA Instagram account while showing off her outfit via social media. She dressed as the assassin Gogo Yubari, played by Chiaki Kuriyama, while Kelly, 33, went as Uma Thurman’s character, the Bride.

Prior to Halloween weekend, SAG-AFTRA released guidelines regarding how striking actors can dress up for the holiday without crossing the picket lines.
“This Halloween, we wanted to make sure our members don’t inadvertently break strike rules, and have put together some quick tips on the dos and don’ts for costumes,” the notice shared via the official SAG-AFTRA strike website on October 18 read. “Check them out and have a spooktacular Halloween!”
One tip noted that actors can “dress up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV show.” However, they should not “post photos of costumes inspired by struck content to social media” — which appears to be the rule that Fox broke.

In her social media post on Sunday, Walter explained that “no one cares about kids’ costumes,” noting that the SAG-AFTRA’s concern is with “high pros at fancy parties. Like Megan.” (Ryan Reynolds previously poked fun at the guidelines and how it would impact his and Blake Lively’s kids’ costumes, joking that he’d be “screaming ‘scab’ at my 8 year old all night” while trick or treating.)
Actress Paige McGarvin also spoke out in the comments section of Fox’s social media post.
“You look amazing but i wish you didn’t post this,” she wrote. “I totally understand if you disagree with sag and want to voice that privately / to your inner circle, but using your massive platform to undermine the union and sow seeds of division in an incredibly public way does nothing but hurt our leverage with the amptp.”
The members of SAG-AFTRA have been striking against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) since July — two months after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike started in May — with their biggest points of contention being additional compensation for actors due to the success of streaming services and the use of AI in Hollywood.
After meeting with the CEOs on October 11, SAG-AFTRA released a statement noting that proposals had been “rejected” and further talks have been put on hold.
“It really came as a shock to me because what does that exactly mean and why would you walk away from the table?” SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher said during an October 13 appearance on the Today show about ending the strike. “It’s not like we’re asking for anything that’s so outrageous.”
“Hog for a night. Dawg for life. #truelove,” Robach, 50, captioned an Instagram photo on Friday, October 20, of her and Holmes’ reserved seats at the college. Holmes, 46, meanwhile, uploaded snaps from his morning run around Arkansas as the pair prepare for the upcoming New York Marathon.
Courtesy of T.J. Holmes/Instagram
Holmes also reached a social media milestone on Monday, October 23, by sharing photos of him holding hands with Robach while at a football game. This marks the first time Holmes posted Instagram photos of him and Robach since their scandal broke last year.
A newsworthy relationship. GMA3 cohosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ reported romance made headlines in November 2022 when the TV personalities — both married to other people — were photographed getting cozy on various outings throughout the month. The pictures, first published by the Daily Mail, showed the pair holding hands in a car, laughing […]
In November 2022, the former Good Morning America cohosts were spotted getting cozy outside of the office on numerous occasions. At the time, Robach had been married to Andrew Shue since 2010. Holmes, for his part, filed for divorce from wife Marilee Fiebig one month after news broke about his affair. Robach and Shue, 56, are also going through divorce proceedings following the drama.

“During the holiday season and in light of the challenging times, Marilee’s sole focus has remained on the overall best interest of her 9-year-old daughter,” her attorney Stephanie Lehman told Us Weekly in a January statement. “To that end T.J.’s lawyer and I have been working together to move their divorce forward privately, expeditiously and as amicably as possible. Notwithstanding, we continue to be disappointed by T.J’s lack of discretion, respect and sensitivity toward Marilee and the party’s daughter. Marilee has been touched by the outpouring of support and looks forward to a new beginning in this new year.”
From coworkers to more? Good Morning America cohosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes sparked plenty of questions about the status of their relationship despite both being married to other people. The ABC personalities raised eyebrows in November 2022 when they were caught getting cozy in photos published by the Daily Mail. According to the outlet, […]
Holmes’ divorce from Fiebig was settled earlier this month per court records seen by Us. According to the online documents, their settlement and proposed judgment have been filed but are still pending.
More than meets the eye? Amy Robach and Andrew Shue had a seemingly wholesome marriage before the TV reporter was spotted getting cozy with her Good Morning America coanchor T.J. Holmes. Robach and Shue tied the knot in 2010, two years after her divorce from Tim McIntosh. The former couple, who were married from 1996 […]
“Marilee and Amy haven’t spoken since news of the affair broke,” an insider shared days after the settlement. “Amy wants to find a solution so she and Marilee can be at peace with each other. She knows she will have to coparent with T.J. and Marilee, so she wants to be able to coparent in a healthy way and to coparent in their new normal. Amy doesn’t want it to be perceived as her against Marilee.”
According to the insider, Robach is looking forward to her future with Holmes after being declared legally single in April. “Amy is happy they are both finally divorced,” the source added about Robach, who shares two daughters with ex-husband Tim McIntosh. “It was such a traumatic experience for them as well, so they’re happy it’s over and to finally be together in a better place and that it’s no longer considered an affair.”
“I mean he definitely cheated on me with [Bush] in, like, a pretty egregious way,” Erin, 41, said to sister Sara Foster during the Thursday, October 19, episode of their “World’s First Podcast” show.
The sisters were discussing how their love lives — specifically Sara’s “one date” withRyan Gosling and Erin’s relationship with Murray, 42 — had been a topic of conversation on the celebrity gossip page Deux Moi. “Deux Moi, they don’t lie,” Sara, 42, said. “That’s what happened.”
Erin noted that the pair were “living together” at the time, before adding with a laugh, “I’ve moved on though, I’m over it. Just barely.”
Erin and Murray started dating in 2001. He later moved on with Bush after the pair met on the set of their CW series in 2003. They wed one month before the season 3 finale aired in April 2005.
Just five months later, they announced their separation — just as their characters reignited their on-screen romance — among rumors that Murray cheated on Bush withParis Hilton while shooting their film House Of Wax. Their divorce was finalized in December 2006.
Murray and Bush continued to work together for three more seasons of OTH before Murray’s departure in 2009. During a January 2014 interview with Andy Cohen, Bush opened up about the difficulties of filming a TV show alongside her ex-husband.

“At the end of the day we’re grownups, and I actually think what’s interesting about it is that when people split in a way that’s unpleasant, they usually just go on quite literally hating each other — or the person in my situation hates the other person, whatever — but when you have to work with somebody for another half a decade, you kind of have to deal with it,” Bush explained. “Because for me, at the end of the day, my job is my priority. And so I think at the end of it, it really let me just let go of it.”
After the breakup, Bush and fellow costar Austin Nicholshad an on-and-off relationship for six years before Us Weekly exclusively confirmed their split in February 2012. She tied the knot with Grant Hughes in June 2022 before filing for divorce just one year later. She is now reportedly dating soccer player Ashlyn Harris.
Murray, for his part, ended his engagement with Kenzie Dalton — an OTH cheerleader extra — in September 2013 after seven years together. He tied the knot with wife Sarah Roemer in January 2015 and the pair share three children.
Looking back. It’s hard to look back at teen dramas without remembering One Tree Hill. Between the relationships, the friendships and the shocking deaths and dramas, it has become one of the most memorable in history. The series, created by Mark Schwahn, aired for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012. It premiered on The WB […]
Foster went on to marry Simon Tikhman in December 2020, just four months after getting engaged. “I got to marry the love of my life, and hopefully will never have to look at a seating chart again for as long as I shall live,” Erin wrote via Instagram at the time. A-listers like Katharine McPhee — who is married to Erin and Sara’s father, David Foster — along with Kate Hudson and Jonah Hill were all in attendance for the big event.
Us Weekly has reached out to Murray and Bush’s reps for comment.
Jussie Smollett made headlines in 2019 after he claimed to the Chicago police that he was the victim of a homophobic and racist attack.
Investigators searched for the perpetrators of what was initially described as a “possible hate crime” before ultimately accusing the actor of staging his own assault.
A major development in the case came that same month, when police arrested two possible suspects, but they were released soon after without charges. Multiple reports later surfaced accusing the actor of staging the attack with the help of Abimbola “Bola” Osundairo and Olabinjo “Ola” Osundairo, which he repeatedly and vehemently denied.
Nearly a year later a special prosecutor Dan Webbindicted Smollett again, renewing the divisive case. The February 2020 indictment against Smollett stated that he “knew at the time” that there was no crime when he reported to the police that he had been assaulted.
Russia and China have done it for their heads of state. Now some International Olympic Committee members want to change term-limit rules and norms to keep their long-time leader in office.
IOC president Thomas Bach was urged by several members Sunday to change Olympic statutes on term limits and seek four more years as president through 2029.
Bach’s presidency is due to end in 2025 – a 12-year maximum agreed in anti-corruption reforms passed after the Salt Lake City bid scandal broke in the 1990s.
However, citing the recent years of global crises, several of the 99 International Olympic Committee members opened their annual meeting Sunday suggesting they needed more of Bach’s leadership that started in 2013.
The Olympic movement needed “to go through this period of torment with a president who has proved his mettle,” African sports leader Mustapha Berraf said.
“We really need to be able to rely on the leadership you have shown,” said IOC member Luis Mejia Oviedo of the Dominican Republic.
Though Bach has never publicly sought a term limit-busting third mandate, the option has been spoken of in international sports circles since he was re-elected in 2021 at a meeting held remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The IOC gives its president a first term of eight years.
“I cannot hide how that went straight to my heart,” Bach told IOC members of their praise at its meeting being held in Mumbai.
Bach cautioned the presidential term limit is enshrined in the IOC’s book of rules and principles.
“I’m very loyal to the Olympic Charter,” the German lawyer said. “Being a co-author of this Olympic Charter drives me to be even more loyal.”
Extending Bach’s term would need a proposal submitted ahead of an annual meeting, known as the Session. The next is scheduled in July in Paris on the eve of the 2024 Summer Games.
Only one IOC member has publicly spoken about a possible leadership bid: World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, a two-time Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters, head of the 2012 London Olympics organizing committee and a former elected lawmaker in the British parliament.
Coe turns 70 in September 2026, the year his IOC membership should expire, and a 2025 election should be his only option.
Bach turns 70 in December, though as an IOC member since before the Salt Lake City reforms — he was elected in 1991, 32 years ago — he can stay until he turns 80.
A diplomatically expressed counter to extending Bach’s presidential term was suggested by gymnastics federation president Morinari Watanabe, who has been speculated as a possible IOC leadership candidate.
“You guided us all that sports organizations must follow rules and have high integrity under good governance,” Watanabe suggested. “Sports demonstrate discipline and the spirit of fairness to society.”
“I love you, Mr President Thomas Bach,” the Japanese official said, “because I believe you are a correct person.”
Bach replied: “Thank you for your love.”
Bach won a six-candidate contest in 2013 to be elected by his fellow IOC members in a second round of voting. He was unopposed for re-election in 2021.
The IOC contest in 2013 saw little public campaigning and a vote behind closed doors.
Speculation on other candidates to succeed Bach has included two of the IOC’s four vice presidents, Nicole Hoevertsz of Aruba and Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. of Spain, plus Zimbabwe sports minister Kirsty Coventry, who is widely seen as a favored protege of Bach.
Samaranch’s father was IOC president for 21 years from 1980 until 2001. He was succeeded by Jacques Rogge of Belgium, who had the maximum 12 years allowed under the post-Salt Lake City reforms.

TOKYO — An executive at Japanese publishing house Kadokawa was found guilty Tuesday of bribing a former Tokyo Olympics organizing committee member.
Toshiyuki Yoshihara, charged with paying 69 million yen ($463,000) to Haruyuki Takahashi, was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years. That means he avoids prison, as long as he doesn’t break the law in the next four years.
Tokyo District Court Presiding Judge Yoshihisa Nakao said Yoshihara wanted Kadokawa to have an edge in becoming a sponsor, which he believed would enhance its brand power.
“The belief in the fairness of the Games has been damaged,” Nakao said, stressing Yoshihara knew the payments were illegal and sought to disguise them as consulting fees.
The punishment was suspended because Yoshihara had expressed remorse, and his wife had promised to watch over him, Nakao said.
Yoshihara said, “Yes,” once, in accepting the verdict, but otherwise said nothing, and bowed repeatedly as he left the courtroom.
The verdict for Yoshihara, arrested last year, was the latest in a series of bribery trials over sponsorships and licensing for products for the Tokyo Games.
Kadokawa Group was chosen as a sponsor and published the Games program and guidebooks.
The ballooning scandal has marred the Olympic image in Japan, denting Sapporo’s bid for the 2030 Winter Games.
An official announcement on the bid is expected Wednesday, after the mayor meets with Japanese Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita, a judo gold medalist and IOC member, a Sapporo city official said.
At the center of the scandal is Takahashi, a former executive at advertising company Dentsu, who joined the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee in 2014, and had great influence in arranging sponsorships for the Games. Takahashi says he is innocent. His trial is yet to begin.
Fifteen people at five companies face trial in the bribery scandal. The other companies are Aoki Holdings, a clothing company that outfitted Japan’s Olympic team, Daiko Advertising Inc., Sun Arrow, which made the mascots, and ADK, an advertising company.
An official at a consultant company called Amuse was given a suspended sentence in July after being convicted of helping Takahashi receive bribes in return for a part of the money.
Given the various allegations, the money that went to Takahashi totaled some 200 million yen ($1.3 million).
In Tuesday’s trial, Yoshihara was accused of working with Tsuguhiko Kadokawa, a top official at Kadokawa, the son of the founder and a major figure in Japan’s movie and entertainment industry, as well as with Kyoji Maniwa, another senior official at Kadokawa.
Maniwa, accused of depositing the money to Takahashi’s account, was given a suspended sentence in June. Tsuguhiko Kadokawa also faces trial.
In April, Aoki’s founder Hironori Aoki and two other company officials were convicted of handing 28 million yen ($188,000) in bribes to Takahashi and received suspended sentences.
In July, the former head of ADK, Shinichi Ueno, was given a suspended sentence after a conviction of paying 14 million yen ($94,000) to Takahashi.
The organizing committee members, as quasi-public officials, are forbidden from accepting money or goods from those seeking favors. Those receiving bribes are generally given harsher verdicts in Japan than those paying them.
The Tokyo Games were postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

JACKSON, Miss. — The deposition in the civil lawsuit against retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre surrounding Mississippi’s welfare scandal has been pushed back at the request of the athlete’s attorneys, a court document shows.
Favre is set to answer questions under oath about misspending federal welfare money in Mississippi, where about $77 million in public funds intended to help some of the nation’s poorest people were used to fund pet projects Favre and other well-connected people are accused of supporting with the money. The Pro Football Hall of Famer is among more than three dozen defendants in a lawsuit the state Human Services director filed to recover some of the welfare money.
Favre has denied wrongdoing, sued the state auditor who investigated the misspending for defamation and said he paid back misspent welfare funds.
A notice of deposition filed in Hinds County Circuit Court by attorneys for Mississippi’s Department of Human Services said Favre was scheduled to give sworn testimony on Oct. 26 at a hotel in Hattiesburg. A subsequent court document filed Friday shows the hearing has been rescheduled for Dec. 11 based on a request by Favre’s lawyers.
Instead of going to needy families, about $5 million in welfare funds helped pay for a volleyball arena that Favre supported at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, investigators said. Favre’s daughter played volleyball at the school. Another $1.7 million went to develop a concussion treatment drug investigators have said Favre supported.
No criminal charges have been brought against Favre, although a former welfare department director and other people have pleaded guilty to their part in the misspending.
