  • Health inspectors found roaches and expired chicken at Tarrant County food mart

    [ad_1]

A Sansom Park food mart was temporarily closed after health inspectors found expired chicken among other health violations, according to county data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Tarrant County Public Health has transitioned to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants and other places that serve food scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.

The report includes health violations from Jan .18 through Jan. 31 and 250 restaurant inspections.

Cowtown Mart, at 5509 Azle Ave. in Sansom Park scored 70 and voluntarily closed after health inspectors observed German Roaches throughout the facility, including in the prep cooler on some sausages. The inspector ordered the mart to discard all food from the cooler that was being stored at unsafe temperatures, including expired chicken.

While the food mart passed a follow-up inspection some dead roaches were seen on the floor behind equipment. The store was allowed to reopen with an updated score of 94.

One restaurant received a low score during this inspection cycle.

Tortilleria La Original De Zacatecas, at 7931 Camp Bowie West in Benbrook scored 64.

In addition to Cowtown mart roaches were observed at:

Bigs Bar And Grill / Dough Bros, at 1601 Airport Freeway in Bedford. Health inspectors found three dead American cockroaches underneath the dishwasher during inspection.

Here are the inspection scores and violations for restaurants that Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) inspected for Jan. 18th – Jan. 31st, 2026. TCPH inspects and scores all restaurants in Tarrant County except for those located in Fort Worth, Arlington, Euless and North Richland Hills. Scores are based on a 100-point scale. When the score is below 70, a follow-up inspection is required. To search the restaurant inspections, type in a keyword or restaurant name. You can also sort by score.

16-year-old arrested in Sansom Park shooting robbed victim of gun and marijuana: warrant

Sansom Park police say a 16-year-old suspect arrested in the shooting death of Logan Perkins, 24, robbed the victim of a gun and marijuana from his apartment.

Sansom Park police say a 16-year-old suspect arrested in the shooting death of Logan Perkins, 24, robbed the victim of a gun and marijuana from his apartment.

Sansom Park police say a 16-year-old suspect arrested in a fatal shooting from late February also robbed the victim after killing him, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Logan Perkins, 24, was found shot and unresponsive on Feb. 29 at his apartment in the 3100 block of La Junta Street, according to police. Officers took a 16-year-old into custody Friday in connection to Perkins’ homicide.

According to surveillance video obtained by police, a young man wearing a white hoodie — later identified by police as the suspect — was seen on Feb. 28 physically fighting with an unidentified woman near the apartment complex where Perkins was found.

About a minute later, Perkins was seen arriving at his apartment, and two people — including the teen wearing a white hoodie — later approached the same building, according to the warrant.

Surveillance video further showed that the suspect and Perkins were speaking outside his apartment before they both entered the home. Minutes later, the suspect is seen fleeing from the apartment and a moan is heard from Perkins’ home, the warrant says.

Two other people were also seen approaching the apartment shortly after Perkins was shot, according to police.

The 911 caller is the last person seen on the video arriving at the apartment on Feb. 29, the same time he reported to police that he found Perkins unresponsive.

The caller told police that the suspect told him that he killed Perkins, the warrant states.

The suspect also told the caller that he shot the victim three or four times, took a handgun from Perkins, and took marijuana from his apartment, according to the warrant.

The cause of Perkins’ death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the death was ruled a homicide by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Due to his age, no other information will be released regarding the suspect’s identity.

FOREST HILL, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) — A Sansom Park police officer is in critical condition after reportedly getting shot during an active shooter training session at an elementary school Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 2:12 p.m. Nov. 5, Forest Hill police received a call that an officer was down during a “training accident,” Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer said.

Spencer said the officer was shot with a live round and then taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital where she is in critical but stable condition. Her identity has not been released at this time.

The session was put on by a third party training provider at David K. Sellars Elementary in Forest Hill, Spencer said. Several other agencies, including the Sansom Park Police Department, also participated in the training.

Spencer said the third party provider supplied the equipment used and that there was no plan for there to be any live fire training.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Rangers are currently investigating the incident.

Spencer said he is unsure if anyone has been placed on administrative leave at this time.

Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham has since asked the community to send prayers and condolences to the family of the officer.

“We would just like to send our prayers and condolences to the family of the officer that was shot. Also, we ask for the same for our officers here in Forest Hill, as well as all officers that were attending this training,” Boardingham said. “Please help us to pray for the officers, and for everyone who is conducting the investigation so that we can all get through this.”
