  • Fire at San Jose home displaces 6 and injures multiple people, including firefighter

    A fire at a single-story home in San Jose has left six people displaced and three people injured, fire crews said Sunday evening.

    The San Jose Fire Department responded to Endfield Way, located off Story Road near S White Road, for a second-alarm fire at a one-story single-family home. 

    The fire caused major damage to the home and an adjacent home sustained exterior heat damage and internal smoke damage.

    Fire crews said one firefighter and two residents were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The residents self-transported and the firefighter was taken to a hospital by fire personnel. Crews added that a dog died. 

    The American Red Cross is assisting the people displaced by the fire.

  • Vacant building in West San Jose goes up in flames, impacting traffic

    Firefighters rushed out to West San Jose Friday evening to battle a fire at a vacant two-story building. 

    Fire crews said the fire was reported at about 5 p.m. near Saratoga Avenue and Lawrence Expressway. 

    Battalion Chief Shawn Tacklind said crews were worried about interior collapses due to the damage from the fire. He said there was a partial collapse on the second story, forcing crews to pull back about 50 feet from the structure. 

    Photos of the scene showed a building in the Kato Business Square producing a heavy black smoke.

    Traffic is impacted in the area as crews battle the fire. People are urged to avoid the area. 

    Saratoga Avenue is closed in both directions between Prospect Road and Lawrence Expressway, crews said. Lawrence Expressway is shut down at Saratoga Avenue.

    It’s unknown what started the fire. No injuries have been reported.

    SAN JOSE — Firefighters battled six house fires that burned in a two-block area of east San Jose Sunday evening.

    The fires were burning homes in an area near Reid-Hillview County Airport near Quimby Rd. and Sand Point Dr. in east San Jose, according to San Jose Fire.
