  • You’re Not Using Your LinkedIn Profile Correctly

    [ad_1]

LinkedIn is not just for job seekers. If you are in sales, your profile can be one of the most powerful tools to build your brand, credibility, and revenue. But to make it work, you have to approach LinkedIn differently.

The goal here is not to attract recruiters. It is to attract clients. Your profile should make someone want to spend time with you, believe that you add value, and ultimately decide you are worth meeting.

First impressions matter more in sales

Think about what happens when you send a LinkedIn message. On mobile, your prospect will only see your name and that you sent them a message. On desktop, they will see your photo, your name, and your headline. If it’s an InMail, they will immediately know you are not connected to them and will assume you want something.

That means before they even read your note, they are already deciding whether to engage. What do they have to go on? Only three things:

If you do not get these three right, your message will likely go ignored. And the reality is, even with all three, you may still get ignored. But without them, you have no chance. Here’s how to approach it.

Step 1: Get the photo right

Your photo should be professional, friendly, and approachable. It should be visible to everyone, not just your connections. You want your prospect to feel like you are credible but also someone they could talk to.

Step 2: Rewrite your headline to sell value, not your job title

This is where most salespeople get it wrong. If your headline just says “vice president at ABC Company,” it does nothing for your prospect. They already know you want to sell them something. What they are asking themselves is, Why should I meet with you instead of ignoring you like I ignore the dozens of other sales messages I get each week?

Less than 10 words of your headline will show on the screen. Make those words count. Focus not on what you sell, but on why someone would want to meet with you.

    For example:

    • Instead of “VP at ABC Investments,” try “Helping executives get 2x returns.”

That line alone is more likely to get your message opened.

Step 3: Make your profile prove your credibility

Once you get their attention, prospects will often click into your profile to see if you are real, credible, and worth their time. What are they looking for?

    • Your About section: This does not need to be your job-seeker elevator pitch. Instead, use it to demonstrate credibility. Make it clear that you have the expertise, background, and track record to be trusted.
    • Your company history: Prospects want to see stability. How long you have been at your current company, what companies you have worked for, and do you look reliable.
    • Featured section: Turn this on. Showcase awards you won, articles you wrote, or major wins that build credibility.
    • Recommendations: Strong recommendations create the same effect as referrals in sales, as they give your prospect fear of missing out if they don’t meet with you.

    Why sales is different

For job seekers, LinkedIn is about telling a story of career progression. For recruiters, it is about matching keywords. For salespeople, it is about one word…credibility.

You want your profile to answer one simple question for your prospect: “Is this person worth a meeting?”

When your photo is approachable, your headline sells value, and your profile proves credibility, the answer will almost always be yes.

  • How Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming Prospecting

    [ad_1]

Entrepreneurs and sales teams waste countless hours chasing cold leads. Inboxes are crowded, buyers are skeptical, and manual outreach doesn’t scale. Traditional prospecting often relies on volume, sending out hundreds of messages and hoping a few stick, instead of precision.

But in a world where everyone’s inbox is full and attention spans are shrinking, the traditional approach is broken. Today’s buyers expect personalization, relevance, and value from the first touch.

    AI changes the game

Artificial intelligence is automating research, targeting, and outreach—typically the parts of prospecting that slow teams down. With AI, businesses can identify who’s most likely to buy, not just who fits a demographic. Instead of replacing salespeople, AI amplifies them. It gives humans superpowers in personalization and timing.

Machine learning models now analyze buyer behavior, engagement history, and even the tone of previous messages to predict which leads are most likely to convert. The result: more focus, less guesswork, and higher-quality conversations.

LinkedIn: The frontline of AI-powered prospecting

Nowhere is AI’s impact more visible than on LinkedIn. The platform has quietly become one of the most powerful ecosystems for AI-driven sales. Tools like Sales Navigator, AI-powered outreach assistants, and smart content analytics help entrepreneurs and sales reps find and connect with the right people faster.

AI can write personalized messages, schedule follow-ups, and even prioritize which leads are most likely to respond. This means less time spent researching profiles and more time building relationships. For small business owners, it levels the playing field, giving them the same prospecting power as enterprise sales teams.

Beyond LinkedIn: Where AI is going next

AI prospecting doesn’t stop with LinkedIn. AI-powered CRMs now score leads automatically based on engagement signals and buying intent. Predictive analytics forecast when prospects are ready to buy. Email tools use natural language models to draft, test, and optimize outreach messages in real time.

What used to take hours of manual effort researching, writing, and following up can now happen in minutes. This shift allows founders and sales leaders to spend more time on what actually matters: human connection, problem solving, and closing deals.

    How entrepreneurs can take advantage

You don’t need a massive tech stack to benefit from AI in prospecting. Start small and stay strategic:

    1. Automate the tedious, not the human: Let AI handle data entry, follow-ups, and research, but keep your outreach authentic.
    2. Use data to refine, not overwhelm: Focus on insights that help you prioritize the right prospects.
    3. Experiment and iterate: Combine AI tools with your own voice and style to create messaging that feels personal.

When used wisely, AI doesn’t distance you from your prospects; instead, it brings you closer by freeing up your time to focus on real conversations.

AI is the infrastructure that makes it possible to scale. Businesses that learn to blend automation with empathy will dominate the next decade of sales. The future of prospecting won’t be about sending more messages. It’ll be about sending smarter ones.

    And it’s already happening.

The early-rate deadline for the 2026 Inc. Regionals Awards is Friday, November 14, at 11:59 p.m. PT. Apply now.

  • Nordstrom’s Early Black Friday Sale Has Reformation & Baccarat Rouge 540 for an Extra 30% Off

    [ad_1]

All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, StyleCaster may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.

As a shopping editor who’s lived through several Black Fridays, it seems like brands start earlier and earlier each year. Retailers and brands want to ensure they gain a head start against competitors, while shoppers simply want to save as much money as possible and minimize day-of chaos. It’s beneficial for both parties, which is probably why Nordstrom just dropped its early Black Friday deals.

Nordstrom Early Black Friday Deals at a Glance

I scoured through the over 56,000 discounts, and trust me, they’re something to write home about. Instead of wimpy 20% or 30% discounts, a lot of items are over half off. In fact, the steepest markdown on this list of editor-approved picks is an impressive 76% (it’s this pretty Reformation dress for only $68). That should be proof enough that Nordstrom‘s early Black Friday deals are worth shopping as soon as you can. Keep scrolling for what we know about the sale, a shopping editor’s favorite clearance items, and additional product links you’re going to be tempted to check out with.

When is Nordstrom’s 2025 Black Friday sale?

While official 2025 dates have yet to come out, Nordstrom’s 2024 Black Friday sale started on November 21, 2024 at 12:01 a.m. PST and ended on November 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Discounts climbed to as high as 60% for last year’s Black Friday, and the unbeatable deals continued through Cyber Monday. We expect 2025 to have similar dates and discounts.

When is Nordstrom’s 2024 early Black Friday sale?

Nordstrom’s 2025 early Black Friday deals run from November 2, 2025, at 9 p.m. PT through November 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT. This is your time to save an extra 30% on clearance items (and 15% on fragrances), which include top brands you already know and love. Think Reformation, New Balance, and Jo Malone, among others. And need I remind you that the 30% clearance discount is on top of its existing markdown (that’s how the Reformation dress is a whopping 76% off right now).

Ahead, find everything you need to know about Nordstrom’s early Black Friday sale, along with a shopping editor’s product recommendations across fashion, beauty, and home.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Nordstrom is a STYLECASTER sponsor, however, all products in this article were independently selected by our editors. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

  • Teaching Your Audience Beats Selling to Them

    [ad_1]

Many service-based businesses invest in their growth strategy the same way: chasing the bottom of the funnel. They’ll pour money into ads and push out endless content in the hopes of getting the right people to click. But the truth is that while awareness matters, it doesn’t always translate into the kind of qualified leads that sustain a business.

At Prepory, we learned that the best way to attract clients wasn’t shouting louder, but getting people to take something away from what we were actually saying. It turns out our most effective lead gen strategy has been education itself.

    Why education beats awareness

In an effort to pivot away from bottom of the funnel ads, we decided to start offering free webinars on the college admissions process to give families clarity and direction at a time when the process feels overwhelming. These sessions weren’t meant to be sales pitches, but they ended up outperforming our other marketing strategies as a lead generator.

Families who attended our webinars didn’t just walk away with knowledge, they often came back for more. Webinars became a multi-touchpoint tool, creating consistency in how we educate rather than just a one-off sales pitch. By the time these families reached out, they weren’t passive scrollers browsing their options. Before ever speaking to our sales team, they were able to come in as warm leads who had already engaged with our resources, understood the value of expert guidance, and were prepared to invest.

This taught us something important: Informed consumers become better clients. When people truly understand the problem, they can see the value of a solution more clearly.

    Double down

That insight drove one of our most strategic decisions. If education was the best lead generator, how could we scale it?

Our answer was an AI-powered admissions tool we launched earlier this year. This tool, Rory, leverages AI technology to make expert admissions guidance more accessible to students and families rather than hiding behind a paywall or initial consultation.

And while it’s easy to dismiss yet another AI tool on the market, the key is that Rory isn’t made to be a replacement for our service. Its deeper purpose is to inform and that informed consumer becomes a warmer lead.

Rory helps families get their bearings by organizing the admissions process and showing them what the journey looks like, step by step. It makes the scope clear and highlights where roadblocks often arise. The payoff is that this clarity changes the conversation. By the time families connect with us, they don’t need to be convinced of our value because they’ve already seen it. What they want is a trusted service that solves their problem.

Without a single ad campaign, Rory is on track to become our strongest lead engine. Its traffic has grown organically because it solves a real problem.

    Rethink the funnel

Most businesses think of the funnel as a numbers game. Fill the top, and hope enough trickle to the bottom. But in consultative sales processes common in the professional services industry, volume hardly guarantees quality leads.

Instead of fighting for attention, we’ve seen greater success by informing consumers. By the time they reach our sales team, they aren’t just curious, they’re ready.

Rory represents this shift. It’s not just a new tool. It’s a new way of thinking about growth where you invest in making people smarter, not just making them notice you.

The future of lead generation won’t be decided by who buys the most ads. It will belong to the businesses that best inform their prospective consumers.

In an AI age, the opportunity isn’t to automate trust. It’s to accelerate it. If you can educate your audience at scale and meet them with expertise when it matters most, you won’t just generate more leads. You’ll generate better ones.

  • The No. 1 Hire You’re Overlooking

    [ad_1]

Many business owners have an executive assistant. It’s simply common sense.

As the primary driver of your business, your time is best spent on high-payoff activities like participating in leadership meetings, improving processes that ripple through the company, and networking—not on low-payoff activities like expense reports or managing your inbox or calendar.

That’s why many business owners have an executive assistant who takes routine tasks off their plate, enabling them to grow their businesses.

So it’s surprising more companies don’t embrace departmental assistants.

A departmental assistant is essentially an executive assistant who supports an entire department—whether that’s marketing, sales, finance, or any other cohesive team in your business.

Let’s look at why this role is worth considering, and the potential payoff.

The rising need for departmental assistants

According to Gallup, 64 percent of employees were given additional job responsibilities last year, while 42 percent of companies reported budget cuts.

When teams are pushed beyond capacity, it results in missed opportunities, slipping client expectations, and top performers starting to look elsewhere. This is backed up by another Gallup poll, citing 68 percent of U.S. workers are either unengaged or actively disengaged.

Traditionally, businesses might respond by adjusting their targets and dialing back their goals. Of course, that could have a negative ripple effect across the organization.

Or, they could try adding more key hires to the team. But that approach often adds a significant expense that compresses already pressured margins.

Forward-thinking business owners are taking a different route: supporting overloaded teams with a shared departmental assistant.

Research shows knowledge workers spend 41 percent of their day on low-payoff activities. If a departmental assistant could take even a fraction of that —let’s say 1-2 hours a day—off your team members’ plates, imagine the time they’d gain for business-driving activities that move the company forward.

    Departmental assistants in action

One reason I have so much enthusiasm for this strategy is that we implemented it in my business, WorkBetterNow.

Our sales team was at maximum capacity, and the need for a new hire was imminent. That would have been costly, time-consuming, and the ROI wouldn’t be realized for months.

While we waited to make that hire, we hired Paola to serve as our sales department assistant, taking over important but low-payoff activities so our sales reps could focus on driving revenue. The results have been outstanding.

Freed from low-payoff tasks, our reps had more time to follow up with clients, reducing our sales cycle by 21 percent. Further, we were able to hold off on hiring a new sales rep for 6 months due to Paola’s support of our team. And not surprisingly, the timeliness and accuracy of our data and reporting has improved by having a detail-oriented administrative professional handling those duties instead of our sales team.

Ultimately, we accelerated revenue and delayed additional costs, while also keeping our salespeople happy—a win-win all around.

Another example of departmental assistants fueling growth is at Eastman Cooke, a full-service NYC-based commercial construction firm. On a recent episode of my podcast, Great Talent, Great Business, their CEO Peter Morandi told a story about how his estimating department doubled their output.

The construction projects they do typically cost millions of dollars. Each proposal involves multiple phases, subcontractors, and detailed material estimates for each proposal, and the margins are razor-thin. An inaccurate estimate could wipe out their profits on a project completely.

Facing increased demand on their estimating department in 2023, Peter added assistants to their estimating department—freeing estimators to ensure the company is putting out winning and profitable bids. Further, estimate accuracy has improved to the point that they’ve almost eliminated nonbillable change orders—safeguarding their margins and reputation.

    Take action

    So, where do you begin?

Start with one department that’s under the most pressure. For us and many other companies, that would be sales. A departmental assistant gives your sales team more time for revenue-generating activities without adding a new sales rep.

On the other hand, there could be departments in your business, like finance or operations that are creating costly bottlenecks. Wherever your team is buried in admin, a departmental assistant can relieve the burden and boost performance.

If it sounds like a high-risk experiment, it doesn’t have to be. In each case I shared above, the departmental assistants were remote nearshore professionals—proving you can access highly skilled support that helps your business grow without breaking your budget.

Sometimes, the smartest move you can make as an entrepreneur isn’t a dramatic restructure. Rather, it’s a simple shift in how your team is supported. Adding a departmental assistant could be the hire you’ve been overlooking, but one that could drive significant impact.

  • How Sales Navigator Turns LinkedIn Into a Growth Engine

    [ad_1]

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional database, with over 1 billion members. That’s right, 1 billion. This essentially makes it a directory for the professional world. No matter the industry, job function, or experience level, everyone with a career should have a LinkedIn profile. Sales Navigator turns this raw data into an actionable prospecting tool.

Every entrepreneur and every sales rep has the same challenge: They need more meetings with the right people. Sales Navigator helps you find and reach those people faster.

    The overlooked advantage

Too many businesses still rely on referrals, cold calling, or massive email blasts. The problem is that buyers today expect personalization. Sales Navigator makes that possible by offering precision targeting. You can search decision makers by role, industry, company size, geography, or even keywords in their profile. This makes your outreach warm, because you already know who you’re speaking to and why they matter to your business, giving your sales team control and power over their prospecting process.

    How to leverage Sales Navigator

Here are five practical ways to put Sales Navigator to work:
    1. Build laser-focused lead lists: Create lists that match your exact buyer persona instead of guessing and find every single potential buyer of your product in the world.
    2. Use alerts and insights: Get notified when prospects change jobs, get promoted, or post updates—perfect moments to reach out.
    3. Warm introductions: Most people prefer referral business. With Sales Navigator, you can see mutual connections and ask for introductions, cutting through the noise of cold outreach.
    4. Engage with content first: Like or comment on a prospect’s post before sending a message, building rapport before you even reach out.
    5. Message with context: Reference something from their profile or a recent post so your outreach feels personal, not automated.

    Scale your business with it

Sales Navigator is more than a sales tool. It’s a top-of-funnel growth engine. This is how different stakeholders can use it.

Entrepreneurs: It’s a cost-effective way to generate deal flow without a large sales team.
Sales reps: It shortens the sales cycle and there are no gatekeepers.
Business owners:  It can identify new partnerships, investor opportunities, and even talent to recruit.

No matter what stage you’re in, Sales Navigator scales with you.

    The takeaway for entrepreneurs

Cold outreach is dead. I see prospects starting to turn away from referral business, and move towards value-based relationships.

Personalized, targeted outreach is what wins in today’s market. Sales Navigator doesn’t just give you data, it gives you the ability to build relationships with anyone at scale. If you’re not using Sales Navigator, you’re leaving opportunities on the table.

  • Which Is ‘Better’? 4 Things Science Says Most People Don’t Understand About Introverts and Extroverts

    [ad_1]

I was surprised when Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett told me, “I’m a complete introvert. It’s very hard for me to enter certain social situations.”

“You’re able to stand onstage in front of tens of thousands of people,” I said. “That doesn’t sound shy to me.” (In short, how could he not be a total extrovert?)

“That’s different,” he said. “There I’m totally comfortable and in the moment, because it’s like I’m in a little bubble, playing music with my friends.”

Should I have been surprised Kirk is introverted? (Or that Richard Branson is introverted? Or Warren Buffett, he of the five-hour Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting Q & A sessions?)

Nope: being introverted or extroverted has little to do with what you do, especially in public.

Here are few other things conventional wisdom gets wrong about introverts and extroverts.

    1. Extroverts are better suited to be leaders than introverts.

Yeah, no. According to multiple studies, there’s no difference in the effectiveness of introverted leaders and extroverted leaders in terms of overall team and company performance.

Except in certain circumstances: as Adam Grant notes, extroverts are more effective leading employees who tend to seek guidance, direction, and motivation, and introverted leaders are more effective leading employees who tend to take initiative and work well without supervision.

The best leaders? Whether introverted or extroverted, they adapt to the individual needs of each employee. The key is what you do with who you are, and what you believe.

    As Simon Sinek says:

These are phenomenal, phenomenal leaders who are all introverts. The one thing they have in common, whether you’re extroverted or introverted, is undying belief in your cause.

The charisma is not how much energy you have. The charisma is how much you’re willing to devote to that. And if it’s all of it, you have charisma. You have leadership capacity.

If you’re an introvert, one of your strengths is the ability to assess, analyze, evaluate, and make considered, thoughtful decisions. So is the willingness to back your decisions — and your goals — with determination, effort, and persistence.

Both of which are qualities of a great leader.

    2. “Extroverts like to spend time in the outer world of people and things, introverts in the inner world of ideas and images.”

The above quote comes from the folks at Myers-Briggs, early popularizers of the “E” and “I” in the MBTI personality test.

Science shows that’s really not the case, though. A study published in Personality and Individual Differences found that introverts tend to spend the same amount of time with people, and doing things, as extroverts do. (And they’re just as happy as extroverts when they do.)

study published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that extroverts get energy from talking and interacting with other people, but so do introverts; in fact, both extroverts and introverts said their energy levels were highest when they interacted with other people, whether at work or in their personal lives.

Whether you’re introverted or extroverted, you like to spend time in the outer world, interacting with people and doing things.

The only real difference in extroverts and introverts is their sensitivity to outside stimulation. I’m introverted, so after a while I need a little quiet time to recharge. My brother-in-law is extremely extroverted and never seems to need quiet time; to him, more interaction provides even more energy.

    3. Extroverts are better at sales than introverts.

Actually, neither extroverts or introverts are better. A study published in International Journal of Selection and Assessment found no correlation between extroversion or introversion and sales performance.

The real winners? Ambiverts, the people who tend to fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum — and as a result, can more easily adapt their approach depending on the individual needs of potential customers. According to the authors of a study published in Psychological Science:

Because they naturally engage in a flexible pattern of talking and listening, ambiverts are likely to express sufficient assertiveness and enthusiasm to persuade and close a sale but are more inclined to listen to customers’ interests and less vulnerable to appearing too excited or overconfident.

Turns out the same is true for being a great leader and a great salesperson: your personality matters a lot less than your willingness and ability to adapt to the needs of other people.

    4. Extroverts perform better in public situations than introverts.

Extroversion and introversion have little to do with social skills. Plenty of introverts are engaging, and plenty of extroverts are socially awkward.

The situation also matters. Some extroverts love interacting in a group, but struggle with one-on-one conversations.

The best meetings I ever attended were led by an introvert. He wasn’t loud, or talkative, or charismatic, or any of the stereotypical signs of extroversion. When he spoke, it was to the point. When he listened, he really listened. He had figured out how to use what he did best to his advantage.

Research bears out that approach; a Carleton University study found that performance is mitigated by psychological coping style. If you’re shy, coming to a meeting prepared will help you feel comfortable speaking up. If you’re outgoing and gregarious, reminding yourself to listen more than you speak — or even to make sure you speak last — helps ensure other people feel listened to and valued.

And gives you the opportunity to learn whether your assumptions or “just thinking out loud” opinions are wrong.

The opinions expressed here by Inc.com columnists are their own, not those of Inc.com.

  • Amid ‘uncertainty and chaos,’ Montgomery County examines the health of retail – WTOP News

    [ad_1]

Montgomery County’s retail sector remains stable but faces growing uncertainty, according to Planning Board Division Chief Carrie McCarthy. With over 68,000 retail jobs and $13 billion in projected household spending, the county continues to attract businesses despite challenges like federal job losses and shifting consumer habits.

Carrie McCarthy, a division chief at Montgomery County’s Planning Board, described the current retail climate as “stable but softening.”

McCarthy told the Montgomery County Council Economic Development Committee on Thursday that while there are some weak spots, the county’s reputation as a wealthy D.C. area suburb still makes it an attractive location for retail. But, she added, “there’s a lot of uncertainty and chaos out there.”

“Consumers are still spending, but cautiously,” McCarthy said of retail nationally.

She added that in Montgomery County, the retail industry employs over 68,000 people, mostly in food services and grocery stores. There’s about 3,400 retail establishments in the county.

According to McCarthy, residents spend most on food and beverages, entertainment, clothing and child care.

“Montgomery County households are expected to spend about $13 billion on these retail categories,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy noted that child care might not seem like a part of the retail sector, but the market is changing what we think of a retail consumer, and child care businesses can be a “good occupier of ground-floor retail space.”

The development of online shopping and the impact of the pandemic led some to make predictions that brick and mortar retail outlets were doomed, but McCarthy told the council committee that businesses that started as e-retailers “do often find that they want a brick and mortar location.”

McCarthy also said that retail outlets make communities “lovable as well as livable.”

“People have their neighborhood market, their neighborhood restaurant — it’s a private sector vehicle for supporting social connections,” she said.

Vacancy rates for retail vary across the county, ranging from 31% in the Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights area to 10% in downtown Silver Spring, according to data supplied by McCarthy.

Noting the impact that federal job losses have had in the county, along with tariffs that affect businesses, McCarthy said retail has taken some hits, but it will bounce back. She said in these times, it’s about supporting businesses and helping them change their business plans as needed.

Geoff Sharpe, vice president of creative planning and development for Federal Realty Investment Trust, told the committee there are a number of ways the county can assist retailers.

He listed pilot programs, community improvement districts and property tax abatements as “tools that could be employed to foster retail development.”

Sharpe also talked about how online shopping has changed the way brick and mortar outlets operate. He referred to “BOPIS,” or the “buy online, pickup in store” model that many retailers have added.

“For retail businesses to have successful BOPIS, you need to have circulation patterns that make sense. You need to be able to offer short-term parking that’s proximate to the store,” Sharpe said.

Across the country, localities have been faced with what to do with shuttered large retail outlets or even shopping malls. Sharpe said even in smaller spaces, a retailer will have to redevelop the space to adapt to modern shopping preferences.

“Minimizing the time and the cost of making those changes is really important so that we can accommodate those retail businesses in Montgomery County,” he said.

An updated report from Montgomery County Planning is expected by spring of 2026.

On October 1, the Washington, D.C-based business unveiled four new designs of pink, red, and orange roses, mums, and calla lilies that each come with a custom tarot card.

    Photo: Courtesy Urban Stems

UrbanStems CEO Meenakshi Lala knows that most people “don’t wake up in October and say, ‘Hey Halloween is coming. I should be sending flowers to mom,’” but she is betting on a shift in spooky season spending. As more consumers shell out for gifts and home decorations, instead of just candy and costumes, UrbanStems is offering a limited-edition collection of moody florals.

“Halloween has grown far beyond the trick or treating,” says Lala. “It’s become, I think, one of the biggest cultural moments of the year.”

She is not the only executive making that calculation. This Halloween, candy companies, chocolate makers, and all the usual pumpkin spicers will not be the only businesses angling for boost. Plenty of other businesses have found ways to channel the macabre and capitalize on the holiday fervor. The founders and CEOs of these unlikely holiday beneficiaries say Halloween has become a multi-billion-dollar opportunity to drive sales with limited-edition products and boost brand recognition with Instagram-able moments.

This boost could come at a particularly beneficial time. Shoppers have grown increasingly sour about higher prices from tariffs and a weaker job market. Last month, consumer sentiment fell near a record low. After the University of Michigan released its latest survey, Elizabeth Renter, a senior economist at NerdWallet, wrote in an analysis, “You have to go back to the Great Recession to see economic vibes this bad.”

Despite the foul mood, Halloween remains a bright spot that consumers are willing to open their wallets for. Americans are expected to spend a record $13.1 billion on Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. That’s up from $11.6 billion last year. More than half of people said they planned to decorate their home or yard, and a quarter said they will be attending a haunted house.

Some of those thrill seekers will be driving through one in Rockaway, New Jersey where Streamline Car Wash hosts its annual “Screamline Haunted Car Wash” The small business’s Halloween tradition started five years ago and has grown to include more than two dozen actors, animatronics, fog machines, and a light show. Last year, people drove from as far away as Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, says co-owner Adam Gilbert. The event even attracted a few influencers, whose videos racked up millions of views and hundreds of thousands of shares.

“It was crazy,” recalls Gilbert, who says about 1,000 cars turned out in a single night last year with the line stretching into two neighboring towns. This year, to better handle that level of demand, Streamline is offering timed tickets for $40, not including fees.

While the car wash turns a profit on its haunted house (Gilbert declined to specify how much), the biggest benefit has been exposure. Plenty of those visitors return for actual car washes, adds Gilbert, who typically sees an uptick in sales and unlimited memberships in the months following the haunted house

“It’s our biggest advertisement of the year,” he says.

Coconut water brand Vita Coco is also thinking beyond its core products this Halloween. The New York City-based company dropped mystery kits filled with Halloween costumes for Labubu dolls. The free perk for loyalty members prompted more than 4,000 people to join the brand’s loyalty program and sold out within less than a minute.

    Photo: Courtesy Vita Coco

“We noticed people on social talking about dressing up their Labubus for Halloween, so we figured, why not create some costumes ourselves?” Vita Coco chief marketing officer Jane Prior wrote in an email to Inc. “The response blew us away.”

Still, founders and CEOs should remember that moments like Halloween “are not dollar for dollar instant gratification,” says Lala. “You have to continue winning that customer back with every transaction.”

That’s why UrbanStems is already working on a new seasonal floral drop for Thanksgiving.

I’m not a huge eucalyptus girlie, but I am definitely a fan of the brand’s Rum fragrance. My friend gifted me the Rum Hand + Body Wash
a while back, and I was always so excited to rinse off in the shower because of it. In fact, I tried to use it sparingly so I could savor the scent for as long as possible. I guess that just means it’s time for me to finally splurge on another bottle (or two), but while it’s 15% off for Prime Day, of course. This lather should smell similarly to the brand’s Dark Rum fragrance, which has bergamot, plum, and anise top notes, leather, rum, and vanilla middle notes, and patchouli, amber, and milk base notes.

Murad’s Deep Relief Blemish Treatment is an Amazon best buy this Prime Day. Acne can really get you down, impacting your happiness and your confidence, but this spot treatment has been applauded countless times on TikTok for tackling cystic acne.

It’s formulated with ground cherry extract, a ‘phytosteroid’ that works in a similar way to what hydrocortisone does. Said to be very effective for even more severe breakouts, the treatment reduces pain and swelling, while calming the body’s inflammatory response.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

I was also delighted to see Elizabeth Arden’s famed Eight Hour Cream on sale – I use it on my lips and my cuticles every night before bed for guaranteed hydration by the time I wake up – and the Medik8 C-Tetra vitamin C serum you can see me testing below.

It has a gentle formulation that’s designed to penetrate your skin deeply to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also shielding it against pollution and other environmental aggressors. Plus, it’s cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and free from artificial fragrances.

  • Use This Blueprint to Turn Prospects Into Customers For Life | Entrepreneur

    [ad_1]

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

Contrary to what you see in pop culture, sales is all about building lasting relationships that create customers for life. Whether you’re just starting out or have been running your small business for years, the road to success can often feel like navigating an uncharted path. But here’s the good news: With the right map, you can make the journey smooth, predictable, and, most importantly, sustainable.

In this article, we’ll walk through the essential strategies every entrepreneur needs to win opportunities and build lasting, profitable customer relationships. Think of this as your sales blueprint — the guide for turning potential leads into loyal customers, while optimizing your time and efforts to focus on what truly matters.

Related: 5 Ways to Master Sales

Step 1: Focus on winnable opportunities

The first step in any successful sales process is knowing where to focus your energy. Not every prospect is an equal fit for your business, and spending too much time chasing leads that aren’t a good fit can waste your time and lead to burnout. That’s why it’s critical to identify and prioritize opportunities that you can actually win.

You might already be familiar with the idea of evaluating prospects based on their needs, but there’s more to it. It’s about assessing the fit between what you offer and what the prospect truly values. A good way to approach this is by regularly reassessing your opportunities, particularly as circumstances change. Sales cycles can evolve, and so can a prospect’s priorities. By staying flexible and adapting to those changes, you can spot red flags early and recalibrate your approach.

For example, maybe you’ve been talking to the manager of a small company who seems interested, but after a few conversations, you realize the decision-maker is absent from the table. Or perhaps you don’t have enough information to quantify the impact of solving their business challenges, or there’s no clear plan in place for moving forward. These are warning signs that something may be missing from the equation — and that’s your cue to re-engage and realign the conversation. If you can’t make progress in key areas like these, it might be time to move on.

Step 2: Use tools to refine what is and isn’t a winnable deal

Once you’ve identified promising prospects, the next step is to assess where you stand. Are there any gaps in your current understanding? Is there something that still needs to be clarified or revisited before you can close the deal?

This is where a proven opportunity assessment tool can work wonders. Think of it like a rearview mirror — an opportunity to look back and assess where you are in the sales process. By reviewing your past interactions and evaluating what’s still needed, you can uncover potential missed opportunities or areas where your pitch may need refinement.

Tools like this allow you to step back, ask yourself the tough questions and make sure you’re not leaving anything to chance. For instance, you might ask:

    • Should they buy? (What is the problem they need to solve, and how will you do it?)

    • Is it worth it? (Is the problem worth solving? What is the ROI?)

    • Can they buy? (Are you talking to the final decision-maker?)

    • When will the purchase happen? (Are you clear on all the steps that need to happen?)

By asking these kinds of questions, you’ll be able to address any gaps and adjust your strategy accordingly. Don’t hesitate to revisit earlier parts of the conversation as needed. Ask open, probing and confirming questions — what we call O-P-C questions — to truly understand your buyer. The more clarity you can provide at this stage, the more likely you are to close the deal.

Step 3: Create a plan with your prospect

To make sure both you and your prospect are on the same page, it’s important to establish a clear and actionable plan. This mutual plan should align both parties around what needs to be done and when.

A solid plan is built around the prospect’s timeline. By setting expectations for when and how decisions will be made, both you and your prospect can work towards a shared goal without any confusion. It’s essential that this plan is flexible, allowing for adjustments, but also structured enough to maintain momentum.

Remember, the plan should not only focus on closing the deal but on ensuring a successful partnership beyond the sale. What steps need to be taken to deliver value after the agreement? How will you maintain communication moving forward? These are all crucial aspects of building a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.

Step 4: Manage yourself for success

Finally, don’t forget to manage yourself throughout the process. Successful entrepreneurs know that it’s all about how you approach your day, your mindset and how you stay focused on your goals. Staying organized and maintaining a clear vision of what success looks like will help you navigate challenges more effectively.

Being proactive, setting realistic goals and continually reflecting on your progress are all key to keeping momentum. Sales can be a rollercoaster ride with plenty of highs and lows, but by keeping yourself grounded and organized, you’ll be better equipped to handle whatever comes your way.

Following your blueprint for successful sales

Take the guesswork out of selling: By following a clear, structured process — from identifying winnable opportunities to closing deals and managing ongoing relationships — you’ll not only win more business, but you’ll also build a reputation for delivering real value. Keep your eyes open for gaps, revisit your opportunities regularly, and don’t shy away from creating a detailed plan that aligns both you and your prospect toward mutual success.

Building customers for life means creating meaningful connections and delivering solutions that truly make a difference. So, take these steps to heart, create your sales blueprint, and watch your entrepreneurial journey thrive.

Contrary to what you see in pop culture, sales is all about building lasting relationships that create customers for life. • A Ton Of Nintendo Switch Games Are Really Cheap Right Now – Kotaku

    [ad_1]

We’re about to get a ton of new games coming out this fall, but if you want to catch up on older stuff you already missed, a recent sale on physical Switch games is a great place to start. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and more are all decently discounted right now.

The sale is going on at the Amazon-owned daily deals site Woot which frequently unloads extra inventory of physical video games at cheap prices. The current sale is especially good, with just about ever major first-party Nintendo Switch game being $15-20 below the standard sticker price (which the company notoriously never lowers no matter how old the game is).

Here are some of best deals:

    • Super Mario Party Jamboree – $44 (27 percent off)
    • Luigi’s Mansion 3 – $43 (28 percent off)
    • Super Mario RPG – $35 (42 percent off)
    • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening – $47 (22 percent off)
    • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – $44 (27 percent off)
    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – $46 (23 percent off)
    • Animal Crossing: New Horizons – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Super Mario Bros. Wonder – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Super Mario Odyssey – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Metroid Dread – $47 (22 percent off)
    • Splatoon 3 – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Mario & Luigi: Brothership – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Pokémon Shining Pearl/Brilliant Diamond – $45 (25 percent off)
    • Pokémon Scarlet/Violet – $47 (22 percent off)

If you already own a Switch 2, this is a great opportunity to snag any of these games you might have missed last generation. Not only do they work thanks to backwards compatibility, many of them even play better on the new, more powerful hardware. Super Mario Party Jamboree has an upgraded version on Switch 2 with new DLC for $80, so with this deal you can effectively save $16 off that completely new release. Unfortunately, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which both look outstanding on Switch 2, aren’t part of the current sale.

Mario Kart World is already on sale for $10 off

It’s also worth noting, for anyone who didn’t get the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle, that Nintendo’s newest racer is part of the current Woot sale. It’s currently $70 for the physical edition, which doesn’t feel like saving much, but hey, welcome to the world of $80 games. Of course, if you were somehow coming to the Switch ecosystem for the first time and had to choose between either Mario Kart World or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I would definitely recommend the latter. It’s cheaper and it feels like a more classic Mario Kart experience that benefits from years of post-launch updates and support, including dozens of extra characters and tracks in the form of a paid DLC add-on.

    Go buy Xenoblade Chronicles X

Monolith Soft’s remaster of the Wii U open-world RPG only came out earlier this year and the Woot discount is its cheapest price yet. It’s $47 for a physical copy (the international version) which is 22 percent off the standard $60 price. It’s the definitive version of a great game that belongs in every RPG lover’s Switch collection. I suspect physical copies of it will become harder and harder to find, too. The soundtrack is great, the mechs are fun, and the world is sci-fi as hell.
