In addition, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Allison Janney, Sarah Paulson and Cristoph Waltz also will serve as presenters. Del Toro, who is on the cover of the most recent issue of The Hollywood Reporter, and Waltz are both nominees this year: del Toro for best performance by a male actor in a supporting role for One Battle After Another, which also landed a nom for best performance by a cast in a motion picture, and Waltz for best performance by a cast in a motion picture for Frankenstein.
Harrelson will take the stage to present SAG-AFTRA’s highest honor to Ford during the 32nd annual awards ceremony, which will stream live on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
While Ford and Harrelson have not appeared in a movie together, there is an onscreen connection: The latter co-starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story, a prequel story to Ford’s character, Han Solo.
Kristen Bell is returning as host of the ceremony.
Prior to Sunday’s awards ceremony, Paige DeSorbo and Scott Evans will host The Actor’s Red Carpet: The 32nd Annual Actor Awards Official Pre-Show, streaming live on Netflix at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards were first handed out 30 years ago—a lifetime in Hollywood. It’s only natural, then, for the ceremony to get a little nip and tuck. Vanity Fair can exclusively reveal that, as of this year, the annual awards show honoring performers in film and television will be known as the Actor Awards, presented by SAG-AFTRA.
This major change comes on the heels of several notable shifts for the event, which most people call the SAG Awards. The SAG Awards ditched cable in 2023 to stream live on Netflix’s YouTube channel, moving to the streamer’s actual platform in 2024. Having increased global reach motivated the guild’s leadership to consider a name that felt more universal. “The evolution of this has been a long time coming,” showrunner Jon Brockett tells VF. “We really want the show to grow beyond just a domestic audience, and I think something simple and straightforward like the Actor Awards is a way to identify who we are very quickly and very easily.”
Conversations about a name change have been percolating since at least 2012, when the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) merged to create a single union called SAG-AFTRA. “We were trying to figure out how we now make it clear that our union name has changed, but that we’re still the same show. And the continuity of it is the actor,” says SAG Awards Committee chair JoBeth Williams.
The new name rolls off the tongue a bit more easily, and is also a logical fit for the show’s priorities. This star-studded event allows actors to honor their peers with a handmade 12-pound bronze statuette that’s also called “the Actor.” The statuette, which features a nude male figure holding both a mask of comedy and a mask of tragedy, has been an emblem of the event since its inception in 1995.
The SAG Awards are considered by many actors to be one of the most important stops of the season. The awards’ winners sometimes surge in the acting races, though just as often this voting body’s choices don’t align with those of the Academy in closely contested races. Just earlier this year, for example, Conclave won best ensemble at the SAG Awards, while A Complete Unknown’s Timothée Chalamet won for lead actor; neither was victorious in the corresponding categories at the Oscars.

Universal’s Oppenheimer took took the top prize at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning best cast in a film — while also taking the prizes for lead and supporting actor.
Cillian Murphy won best actor for his role as in the eponymous scientist who led the Manhattan Project’s creation of the atomic bomb. He thanked his costars — his “Oppenhomies,” quoting costar Olivia Thirlby — and the larger acting community. “Twenty years ago, when I was trying to become an actor, I was a failed musician and I felt extremely like an interloper,” Murphy recalled. “But now, looking out at all of you guys here today, I know that I’m part of something truly wonderful.”
Lily Gladstone won best actress for Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and opened her acceptance speech by thanking her fellow SAG members for their solidarity during last year’s strike. “This has been a hard year for all of us — those in this room, those not in this room. I’m so proud that we’ve gotten here in solidarity with all of our other unions,” Gladstone said. She added that acting is, ultimately, storytelling: “We bring empathy into a world that so much needs it. It’s so easy to distance ourselves. It’s so easy to close off, to stop feeling and we all bravely keep feeling. That humanizes people, that brings people out of the shadows — it brings visibility.”
Murphy’s Oppenheimer co-star Robert Downey Jr. won best supporting actor, his second career win at the SAG Awards after winning best actor in a comedy series for Ally McBeal in 2001. “Why me? Why now? Why do things seem to be going my way?” said Downey, who has also won a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award and a BAFTA for his role in the Universal historical epic directed by Christopher Nolan. “Unlike my fellow nominees, I will never grow tired from the sound of my own voice.”
Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph won best supporting actress for the Focus Features film. “How lucky are we that we get to do what we do? Truly, in what other profession are people able to live so many lives and touch so many hearts?” she said. “I wake up every day overwhelmed with gratitude to be a working actor. To be awarded this by my fellow artists is the greatest honor of my career. I also want to take a moment to say that every role that I have ever played has been crafted thanks to those who are nearest and dearest to me — some of the most brilliant actors I know whose talents have yet to be properly acknowledged by the world. For every actor out there still waiting in the wings for their chance, let me tell you: Your life can change in a day, and it is not a question of if but when. Keep going.”
HBO’s Succession won best ensemble in a drama series for its final season — its second win in the category after picking up the prize in 2022. “One last hurrah,” said Alan Ruck. “Right now, you’re looking at some of the luckiest people on the planet and some of the most grateful, because not only did we get to work on one of the best television shows maybe ever — we made friends for life.”
But in the acting categories, Pedro Pascal beat Succession’s awards streak, taking the prize for best actor for HBO’s The Last of Us. Even the star appeared surprised by the win. “This is wrong for a number of reasons — I’m a little drunk,” said Pascal. “I thought I could get drunk!”
Elizabeth Debicki won best actress in a drama series for The Crown’s sixth and final season, her second bout playing Princess Diana. Like Pascal, she also expressed her surprise at winning the award. “The women in my category, I watch with total awe,” she said, “I learn how to do my craft watching you.”
FX’s The Bear took home the top prize in the TV comedy categories, winning best ensemble. The show also won individual awards for actor and actress in a comedy: Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, respectively, with White picking up his second consecutive SAG Award for the series. “I’m so honored to be in this community,” he said. “I’ve wanted to be a part of this community for my whole life. I had no backup plan. I started very young, and I’m just so incredibly touched to be standing in front of you all today.”
“I’m looking out at this room of people whose work moves me and motivates me and makes me feel and laugh,” said Edebiri before announcing she’d butcher a James Baldwin quote she had recently read. “The act of love is just really an act of mirroring, and I think anything that anybody sees in me that’s worth anything is because of the people who love me and support me and it made me who I am.”
Beef stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong won best actor and actress in a limited series. Wong thanked Netflix, noting that the company has supported her since the debut of her 2016 special Baby Cobra, while Yeun recalled in his speech that he earned his SAG card for wiggling in a vat of fake caramel while wearing a speedo for a Milky Way commercial. “Honestly, I felt just as hyped to get that card then as I am to receive this here now,” said Yeun.
In the pre-show, HBO’s The Last of Us won the TV stunt performance category, while Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One win the respective film category.
The Morning Show’s Jennifer Aniston presented the lifetime achievement award to Barbra Streisand, noting that the location of the ceremony — Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium — was the site of Streisand’s first major concert in 1963. Noting that the two-time Oscar winner is a trailblazer for women in the entertainment industry, Aniston said that Streisand “did not just pave the way for us women — she bulldozed the clearing for us.” Joining Aniston on stage, Bradley Cooper also celebrated Streisand, saying, “One might think that an actor who becomes a director has to learn to look at everything in a whole new way to see how everything fits together, to have that 10,000-foot view. But that perspective wasn’t new for Barbara — for her it was second nature.”
“This is such a wonderful award to get because you know in advance … you don’t have to sit there and squirm, wondering if you’re gonna get it,” said Streisand, who noted she’s a six-decade member of SAG. She also recalled going to see Guys and Dolls as a teenager and falling head over heels for star Marlon Brando, knowing then that being in movies was her life’s goal. “That make-believe world was much more pleasant than anything I was experiencing,” Streisand added. “I didn’t like reality. I wanted to be in the movies. Even though I knew I didn’t look like the other women on the screen — my mother said, ‘You better learn to type,’ but I didn’t listen. And somehow, some way, it all came true.”
Michael Cera, Colman Domingo, Hannah Waddingham and Idris Elba kicked off the show with the annual “I am an actor” presentation, sharing personal anecdotes of their career highlights. Elba also introduced the awards show from the stage, noting that for the first time the ceremony is streaming live on Netflix and cursing is allowed — within reason. “Here’s a good rule of thumb: Maybe don’t say anything you wouldn’t say in front of Oprah,” said Elba.
The Hijack star also took the opportunity to address the biggest elephant in the room: last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike. “It is especially meaningful to be here all together for this occasion after going through a very difficult time with the strike,” said Elba. “I want to take this moment to honor and appreciate all of you both here and watching at home who stood up for SAG-AFTRA in solidarity and support.”
Addressing the A-list members in the audience, SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher also reflected on the lessons learned from the 2023 strike. “You survived the longest strike in our union’s history with courage and conviction. The journey was arduous. It came with great sacrifice and unrelenting stress. Your collective dignity and perseverance to stand up and say we deserve better because we are better resulted in an historic billion dollar deal.”
Drescher added that their labor fight has inspired other workforces across the globe. “Your solidarity ignited workers around the world, triggering what forever will be remembered as the Hot Labor Summer,” she said. “You took the heroes journey and stood at the front lines. Strike captains led the march on the picket lines. And we all showed up to the rallies because you understood what our massive contribution means to this marvelous industry.”

Awards Season brings out everyone’s inner critic. Suddenly, we think we know more than the Recording Academy. Every year, there are viral moments and scandalous decisions. Any Kid Harpoon song is a classic, and Cyrus’ return from a brief hiatus from music was met with high marks. It was Spotify’s most streamed song in a week ever, spent time at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, and was the fastest song in Spotify history to reach 1 billion streams.
Album Of The Year: Midnights by Taylor Swift
She’s won this coveted award three times already, and it’s impossible to discredit the year of Taylor Swift. She is on track for the highest-grossing tour of all time with the Eras Tour, Midnights is Apple Music’s biggest pop album of all time in terms of first-day streaming, and the album is the reason she was all 10 of Billboard’s Top 10 Songs (the first time all women have dominated the charts ever). Give Swift her flowers.
Song Of The Year: “A&W” by Lana Del Rey
Another Jack Antonoff production, Lana Del Rey’s album is a spiritual awakening. With an essence of transcendentalism and a hint of gospel, it’s Lana to her core. “A&W” is hailed Song of the Year by many already, and it’s time we recognize her for the artist she is, was, and always will be.
Best New Artist: Ice Spice
I haven’t seen many people rise to the top as quickly as Ice Spice, nor have I seen someone garner such a passionate fanbase. The rapper has hits like “Deli” and collabs with rap queen Nicki Minaj on “Barbie World” and Taylor Swift on “Karma”, not to mention her Munchkin drink at Dunkin Donuts.
Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical): Jack Antonoff
Not only is Antonoff the mastermind behind many Taylor Swift albums, including Midnights, but he has Lana Del Rey’s multi-nominated album, “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard?,” under his belt. He can’t miss, and for that, he wins.
Best Pop Solo Performance: “What Was I Made For? [From The Major Motion Picture Barbie]”
This song is stunning, productionally perfect, and sonically flawless. Billie and Finneas continue to grow as an unstoppable singer-songwriter duo who can make any song fit any moment.
Best Pop Vocal Album: GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo wanted to have fun with her sophomore album following the immense pressure and success of her debut, SOUR. With GUTS, we had viral singles yet again that promise Rodrigo is here for the long haul.
Best Dance/Electronic Recording: “Strong” by Romy + Fred again…
Developing a cult following in the electronic music world, Fred again… is one of the hottest house dance artists in the world right now. Following a successful bout of live shows and reaching fans on almost every platform imaginable, “Strong” is a winner.
Best Pop Dance Recording: “Rush” by Troye Sivan
Troye Sivan understands how to make out-of-the-box pop music, and seals it with one hell of a dance number. He’s the embodiment of a popstar, and “Rush” was just an example of the high precedent he’s set.
Best Rock Performance: “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius
Compiled of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus, boygenius is a supergroup showing the world how to rock again. “Not Strong Enough” showcases what each member brings to the group in one sound synergy.
Best Rock Album: Starcatcher by Greta Van Fleet
Hailed as The Next Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet brings you on a journey with their Starcatcher album. Each song a delight, Greta Van Fleet has developed their sound and found their stride.
Best R&B Performance: “Kill Bill” by SZA
SOS is one of the best albums of the year, and while I don’t see it winning in the Big 4 due to competitors like Swift, I still think it wins in general. “Kill Bill” was one of the biggest songs and continues to be one of the most viral.
Best Rap Performance: “Rich Flex” by Drake & 21 Savage
The saying “I like what Drake likes” holds true for many…and the collaboration album, Her Loss, with 21 Savage was one of the biggest of the year. “Rich Flex” makes sense for two of the biggest rappers out there right now.
Best Rap Album: Heroes & Villains by Metro Boomin’
Metro Boomin’ is the rapper and producer responsible for countless hits like Migos’ “Ric Flair Drip”. His Heroes & Villains album is a masterclass for high quality rap, intricate detail in production and songwriting, and straight up hits.

When Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Squid Game debuted on Netflix in 2021, it took the world by storm, literally. The story follows 456 financially struggling competitors – especially gambling addict Seong Gi-hun – who use strategy and luck to compete in common South Korean children’s games for 456 billion won 45.6 (that’s $38.2 million USD). The twist? If you fail a game, you die, and only one person can win.
Squid Game quickly became the platform’s most-watched series – nominated for 14 Primetime Emmys. And actors O-Yeong Su, Lee Jung-Jae, and HoYeon Jung received SAG and Golden Globe awards for their performances. Despite being a fully-subtitled show, it had such a cultural impact that Mr. Beast created his own live Squid Games (sans death)…and then, Netflix of course couldn’t resist releasing Squid Game: The Challenge.
456 contestants come together to compete for $4.56 million reward in iconic challenges like Red Light-Green Light, carving a shape out of dalgona (honeycomb candy) without cracking it, marbles, and jumping over the Glass Bridge. It’s the largest cash prize in gameshow history, enough to make people do the unthinkable. And while I wasn’t sold at first, the controversy surrounding the show is enough to get me to tune in.
Controversy Behind Squid Game: The Challenge
Now that players have been eliminated from the games, we’re getting the bigger picture of what went on during production. Contestants reported eating under 1,000 calories per day, which makes sense considering the one meal we saw them eat was a leftover-sized container of rice and egg. Temperatures were so cold that one contestant suffered from hypothermia, while others were using lubricated condoms in lieu of chapstick.
The iconic green tracksuit uniforms (which must be returned to producers after elimination) were not enough to keep the competitors warm, especially during Red Light-Green Light…where they filmed over nine hours, staying frozen in place for up to 45 minutes at a time. Time goes much quicker when you watch, which is why one contestant caught fire for not being able to hold a squat (now we know she is a modern-day warrior.)
The editing of the show itself has caused its own issues. And thanks to social media, contestants are sharing their own version of Squid Game: The Challenge. While a series villain like Ashley may have appeared selfish for refusing to step forward during Glass Bridge for Trey, reports have indicated that Trey blindly jumped tiles on his own accord.
It’s a dystopian show – inherently creepy in its message that people will quash any natural, nurturing instincts just to achieve financial freedom. You slowly watch these people go insane, building mistrust amongst themselves and against the producers, the all-knowing Big Brother voice, and eerily always-in-character guards. And now that we’re taking a peek into what it’s like inside the Games, you can understand how someone would lose their mind.
I can confirm that this gameshow is the ultimate entertainment for viewers, and the controversy behind the conditions only fuel the fire. This show has everything: betrayal, likable characters, despicable characters, and moments that will make you hold your breath and scream at your television like it’s the Super Bowl.
Who Will Win Squid Game: The Challenge?
It’s the season finale of the games tonight, December 6, when we find out which of the three finalists – Player 287, Mai; Player 451, Phill; or Player 16, Sam – will win the coveted cash prize.
It’s also been reported that the show has been renewed for a second season, so you know we’ll be tuning in.
Sally Field’s son, writer Sam Greisman, may not have been able to attend the SAG Awards, but he was certainly there in spirit — or at least in the Twitterverse.
Greisman shared his thoughts about the show in a series of tweets on Sunday night. He posted a photo of Austin Butler onstage with his mother, who received this year’s SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
Butler escorted Field to the stage to accept the award, but Greisman suggested that her interaction with the “Elvis” actor may have been a prize enough.

Greisman also took notice of the admiration and love Andrew Garfield showed his mom during the night, tweeting his disappointment about missing Garfield at the award show days prior.

Garfield presented the lifetime achievement award to his “The Amazing Spider-Man” co-star. During his speech, he called Field a “titan of acting” and a “north star.”
He later crashed Field’s interview with Entertainment Tonight to ensure she was doing OK, telling the interviewer that Field is “some kind of surrogate something in my life.”
Greisman joked that Garfield’s affection might have upstaged his family’s treatment of Field.

The two-time Oscar winner received wide praise for her SAG Awards speech, in which she noted her white privilege in her journey in the film industry.
“I was a little white girl with a pug-nose born in Pasadena, California,” Field said onstage. “And when I look around this room tonight, I know my fight ― as hard as it was ― was lightweight compared to some of yours. I thank you, and I applaud you.”
Let’s talk about your look for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
What I loved about that look is that it tells a story of sensuality that I like because it’s not upfront. It’s reserved, but it’s there. So sometimes through the gap of the dress, you can see my leg, but sometimes, you don’t. I love this kind of way of telling a story of sensuality. But also, I loved it because it is, in my opinion, what Italian fashion is, what it always was. So it’s chic but minimal but very definite and very strong. It doesn’t need that much—it’s there. I tend to have a very soft energy, so something that makes me feel more strong, it was just perfect.
Was it one that you tried on and instantly knew “This is the one,” or did you try many options?
I tried many looks from many brands, but for some reason, my eye would always go back to that one because that dress was one that we tried, but it didn’t fit. It was the most complicated one, but I kept going back to it.
You had such cool hair and makeup. What was the inspiration behind your glam look?
I think that we were going for more of a natural look for the makeup. And then for the hair, we wanted a wet look, which is something I’d never done before and was exciting. The glam team was so talented. Peter Gray did the hair, and it was so good. And also the makeup artist Karoline Karakeosian works with Valentino Beauty. With makeup, I don’t like to have too much on. I always love a natural look, but this was the idea to create a sort of wet effect.
“We created a soft monochromatic look inspired by the silk roses in the gown,” celebrity makeup artist, Raoúl Alejandre, shared in a press release. “Draping has been a staple in my beauty work for some time, but I went a step further to create a fresh take on my technique by working with iridescent and satin pastel tones to create a highlighted fresh look. This technique creates an inverted sculpted effect. I pared the romantic pastel eyes with a mod spikey top and bottom lash. The lip was also carefully thought out and rather than going for a cool tone we decided to clash and finish off the look with a neutral liner and a peachy centered lip for warmth.”

But the clearest result of the SAG Awards was the overwhelming success of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s madcap multiverse tale, which has now used its hotdog fingers to snag top honours from the acting, directing and producing guilds. Only one film (Apollo 13) had won all three and not gone on to win best picture at the Oscars.
After so much of the cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once had already been on the stage to accept awards, the night’s final moment belonged to 94-year-old James Hong, a supporting player in the film and a trailblazer for Asian American representation in Hollywood. He brought up the ignoble yellowface history of the 1937 film The Good Earth.

Hong added that the cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once wasn’t all Chinese, though he granted Jamie Lee Curtis had a good Chinese name. Curtis’ win was one of the most surprising of the night, coming over the longtime favourite, Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), who had seemed to be on a clear path to becoming the first actor to win an Oscar for a performance in a Marvel movie.

A visibly moved Curtis said she was wearing the wedding ring her father, Tony Curtis, gave her mother, Janet Leigh.
“I know you look at me and think ‘Nepo baby,’” said Curtis, who won in her first SAG nomination. “But the truth of the matter is that I’m 64 years old and this is just amazing.”
The actors guild, though, lent some clarity to the lead categories. Though some have seen best actress as a toss-up between Yeoh and BAFTA winner Cate Blanchett (Tár), Yeoh again took home the award for best female lead performance.
“This is not just for me,” said Yeoh, the first Asian actress to win the SAG Award for female lead. “It’s for every little girl that looks like me.”
Quan, the former child star, also won for best supporting male actor. The Everything Everywhere All at Once co-star had left acting for years after auditions dried up. He’s also the first Asian to win best male supporting actor at the SAG Awards.
“When I stepped away from acting, it was because there were so few opportunities,” said Quan. “Now, tonight we are celebrating James Hong, Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Hong Chau, Harry Shum Jr. The landscape looks so different now.”
Some online commentators suggested there was irony in Mark Wahlberg, who presented best ensemble, handing out the night’s final award to a film with a predominantly Asian and Asian American cast. In 1988, a 16-year-old Wahlberg attacked two Vietnamese men while trying to steal beer near his home in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Wahlberg, who said race wasn’t a factor in the assault, served 45 days of a two-year sentence. Wahlberg also announced the film Women Talking as “Women Are Talking.”

Best actor has been one of the hardest races to call. Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale) and Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) have all been seen as possible winners. But it was Fraser who went home with the SAG Award for his comeback performance as an obese shut-in in The Whale.
“Believe me, if you just stay in there and put one foot in front of the other, you’ll get where you need to go,” said Fraser, who anxiously eyed the actor-shaped trophy and left the stage saying he was going to go look for some pants for him.
The SAG Awards are considered one of the most reliable Oscar bellwethers. Actors make up the biggest percentage of the film academy, so their choices have the largest sway. A regal and unbothered Sam Elliott, winner for male actor in a TV movie or limited series for 1883, spoke well past his allotted time. The show sped through early winners, including awards for Jean Smart (Hacks), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and Jason Bateman (Ozark).

The White Lotus also took a victory lap, winning best ensemble in a drama series and another win for Jennifer Coolidge, coming off her wins at the Emmys and the Golden Globes. A teary-eyed Coolidge traced her love of acting to a first-grade trip to see a Charlie Chaplin film. She then thanked her date, a longtime friend, the actor Tim Bagley.

The ceremony’s first award went to a winner from last year: Jessica Chastain. Sunday’s ceremony doubled as an unofficial “Parks and Recreation” reunion when Amy Poehler and Adam Scott, who co-starred on the NBC comedy series from 2009 to 2015, took the stage to present the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
Before announcing Jean Smart as the winner for her performance in “Hacks,” the two actors engaged in a playful feud that harkened back to their “Parks and Rec” characters, who were a married couple.

“I just want to say I’m thrilled to be here,” Scott, a nominee for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Mark S. on “Severance,” deadpanned.
Poehler, however, didn’t miss a beat, suggesting that her former co-star would be better off if he’d “go smoke cigarettes and wear a leather jacket with all the drama people.”
After Scott zinged Poehler back, she pulled out a classic Leslie Knope line.
Poehler and Scott weren’t the only “Parks and Recreation” actors in attendance at the SAGs this year.
Prior to the start of the ceremony, Poehler posed on the red carpet with Aubrey Plaza, who played April Ludgate on the series.

Interestingly, there have been a number of “Parks and Rec” cast reunions this year. In January, Plaza and Poehler reprised their iconic characters for a “Weekend Update” segment on “Saturday Night Live” that poked fun at the pros and cons of local governments.
And earlier this month, the two women met up with Kathryn Hahn and Rashida Jones, who played Jennifer Barkley and Ann Perkins, respectively, for a “Galentine’s Day” celebration.

It’s official: Jennifer Coolidge is now a Screen Actors Guild Award winner. On Sunday, “The White Lotus” star took home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her performance in the second season of the hit HBO series.
“It’s been a very special year and you know, overwhelming,” Coolidge said while delivering another memorable speech following wins at the 2022 Emmys and 2023 Golden Globes. “And ‘White Lotus’ and Mike White writing me this great part that went on for two seasons, and just HBO giving me the thumbs up to let me to it.”
“I just want to say,” she continued before getting emotional. “I want you all to know that I’m just so grateful. So grateful, because this could be it.”
Next up, Coolidge thanked the show’s creator, Mike White, for changing her perspective, telling the crowd and White directly, “Mike White — you can give money to friends and do nice things for them, and people love money, and I do — whenever I can. When your friends are broke, you can give money and stuff, but the best gift you can give someone is to change someone’s perspective for the better, and view life in a different way, and that’s what Mike White did for me.”
In addition to thanking White, Coolidge also went on to thank her parents for exposing her to the art of acting from a young age.
“What I really want to say is, I have these amazing parents. And they had this incredible gift, it was impossible for them to lie. They just couldn’t do it — never. Never. They just never lied,” she said before revealing the one exception. “My father, one day, the school principal came to my first grade class and said that I needed to be called to the office. And I went to the office, and she said, ‘Your father’s here.’ And my father was standing there, and he goes, ‘Yeah Jenny, we have to go,’ and the principal said, ‘Get well,’ and I didn’t know what that meant.”
She continued, ‘And I got in the car with my dad, and he was driving, and he said, ‘I’m never gonna tell a lie again, but we’re going somewhere really cool. And he drove me to this place, and it was this flooky thing in Massachusetts. It was the Charlie Chaplin film festival. He got me out of first grade class to do it, and I swear to God, seeing Charlie Chaplin for the first time and having that experience, my love of film, my love of actors — all of that came from my first grade.”

Coolidge also thanked her date, her friend of 20 plus years, and fellow actor, Tim Bagley.
“My wonderful date, Tim Bagley is my date tonight. He’s my best bud for like, 20 years. Thank you, you’re a wonderful date tonight. I can’t wait till we get home,” Coolidge quipped.
Her SAG Award win extends her career comeback another year after collecting a number of accolades in 2022, including a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for season 1 of The White Lotus.

The 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards kicked off on Sunday night in Los Angeles as the city recovered from historic weather with high winds and hail, raging rainstorms and rare blizzard warnings rocking Southern California over the weekend.
Despite the snowfall and chilly temperatures, attendees were likely just grateful to be able to appear at the show in person for the second year in a row, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the SAG Awards to shorten its normal ceremony to a one-hour, virtual pretaped special in 2021.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” are expected to take home top honors at the ceremony, as both movies dominated SAG nominations, which were announced in January.

The event is special for all who are nominated, as the SAG awards are the only show in which nominees are chosen by actors’ peers (the members of the Hollywood actors guild, SAG-AFTRA). It’s also an early look at who might take home the top honors at the Academy Awards, which will take place on March 12.
Christina Applegate, who is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her work on Netflix’s hit show, “Dead to Me,” previously told the Los Angeles Times that this year’s ceremony will be an especially “big deal” for her.
The entertainer revealed that this could be her “last awards show as an actor,” as she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2021.
