Man pulls gun on officer during retail theft operation in Sacramento Target

    [ad_1]

(FOX40.COM) — A man pulled a loaded gun on an officer during the process of being arrested for retail theft at Target, according to the West Sacramento Police Department.

Earlier this week, officials said that Target Assets Protection contacted the West Sacramento Police Department (WSPD) about a shoplifter and an accomplice who was in the store “concealing merchandise” in a bag.

Upon arrival, officers said that one person suspected of retail theft exited the store and attempted to hide in the grass on the Clarksburg Trail. He was arrested and taken into custody.

A separate WSPD officer entered the Target store to contact the accomplice who was reportedly seated in the Asset Protection office. When the officer attempted to handcuff the accomplice, he allegedly began to fight the officer. During the altercation, police said the suspect removed a loaded Glock handgun from his backpack which was later confirmed to be stolen.

The suspect dropped the gun during the fight, and a Target Assets Protection team member kicked the gun out of the way, according to police. The officer eventually handcuffed the suspect.

Republican Tom Silva wants to represent the Sacramento area in Congress

ACCOMPLISHMENTS. WELL, IN THE RACE TO REPRESENT THE SACRAMENTO REGION IN CONGRESS, ONE REPUBLICAN SAYS HE’S UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. KEEP IN MIND DEMOCRATS MAKE UP MORE THAN HALF OF CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT SEVEN, BUT U.S. ARMY VETERAN AND FORMER GALT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT TRUSTEE TOM SILVA SAYS HE’S READY TO REPRESENT ALL VOTERS IN THE DISTRICT. KCRA 3’S ASHLEY ZAVALA SAT DOWN WITH HIM. I REALLY DO BELIEVE THAT REPRESENTATION MATTERS. TOM SILVA IS THE SOLE REPUBLICAN RUNNING TO REPRESENT THE SACRAMENTO AREA IN CONGRESS. THE AVID CYCLIST AND FATHER OF TEN SAYS HE’D BE THE FIRST PERSON FROM GALT TO RUN FOR A SEAT IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. GALT IS ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF SACRAMENTO COUNTY. WE OFTEN FEEL NEGLECTED WHEN IT COMES TO RESOURCES AND REPRESENTATION, AND I JUST FELT LIKE I NEED TO SPEAK UP FOR THE PEOPLE OF GALT TO STAND UP, TO BE SEEN AND TO BE HEARD. SILVA SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 33 YEARS AND WAS DEPLOYED TO IRAQ IN THE EARLY 2000. WHEN YOU’RE BUILT TO SERVE, THERE’S NO OFF SWITCH. SO ONCE I RETIRED FROM THE ARMY, I CONTINUED TO GET INVOLVED. I GOT INVOLVED IN MY COMMUNITY. I GOT INVOLVED IN MY CHILDREN’S SCHOOLING IN THEIR EDUCATION. I SERVED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMMITTEES. ULTIMATELY, I ENDED UP ON THE SCHOOL BOARD IN GALT. SILVA SAYS VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EDUCATION ARE TWO ISSUES. HE’D WANT TO BE THE MOST INVOLVED IN IF ELECTED TO CONGRESS. HE SAYS TO ADDRESS THE STATE’S HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS CRISIS, HE’D START WITH THE PUSH FOR MORE RESOURCES TO ADDRESS SUBSTANCE ABUSE. WHAT DO YOU THINK REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL TO HELP THIS AREA? I THINK WHAT AMERICANS WANT RIGHT NOW MORE THAN ANYTHING IS ACTION. AMERICANS ARE FRUSTRATED. THIS IS ON RECORD. THIS IS THIS IS ONE OF THE LEAST ACTIVE CONGRESSES THAT HAS SAT, YOU KNOW, IN TERMS OF IN TERMS OF ACTIVE LEGISLATION, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY THAN THE REPUBLICANS CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE HOUSE? SO REALLY, I DON’T WORK FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. I DON’T WORK FOR A PRESIDENT. I WORK FOR THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA DISTRICT SEVEN. AND IF THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA DISTRICT SEVEN TELL ME THIS IS WHAT WE WANT, THIS IS WHAT’S BEST FOR US, THEN THAT’S WHAT. THAT’S HOW I WOULD ACT. THAT’S HOW I WOULD VOTE. IS DONALD TRUMP SOMEONE THAT YOU WOULD SUPPORT IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION? WELL, FIRST OF ALL, HE HASN’T WON THE NOMINATION OF MY PARTY YET. SO THERE IS THAT ANSWER. BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS. I’VE VOTED FOR THE REPUBLICAN NOMINEE IN EVERY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION SINCE I CAST MY FIRST VOTE FOR RONALD REAGAN. SO IT SHOULDN’T BE ANY SURPRISE WHO I’M GOING TO VOTE FOR COME NOVEMBER. SILVA SAYS HE’S A MODERATE REPUBLICAN WHO IS PRO-LIFE. HE ACKNOWLEDGES CALIFORNIA VOTERS HAVE ENSHRINED THE RIGHT TO AN ABORTION. WOULD A NATIONAL ABORTION BAN? IS THAT SOMETHING THAT YOU WOULD VOTE FOR IF YOU BECAME A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE TO BE HONEST, I’M NOT PREPARED TO MAKE A DECISION ON THAT EITHER WAY. SILVA SAYS HE BELIEVES IT’S TIME FOR SOMEONE NEW TO REPRESENT THIS AREA IN CONGRESS. DEMOCRAT DORIS MATSUI HAS HELD THE SEAT FOR TWO DECADES. WHAT DO YOU FEEL THAT SHE’S NOT DOING THAT YOU COULD DO BETTER? WHEN YOU LOOK AT A SPAN OF, YOU KNOW, 20 YEARS IN CONGRESS, WHAT HAS SHE ACCOMPLISHED FOR US? WHAT IS SHE CONTINUING TO ACCOMPLISH? YOU KNOW, BECAUSE, AGAIN, THE ECONOMY IS NOT WHERE IT SHOULD BE. WE DON’T HAVE THE BORDER SECURITY UNDER CONTROL. YOU KNOW, WE’RE NOT PASSING LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT UKRAINE. On Friday, the team announced that it will begin its U.S. Open Cup journey in the Round of 32, the same round the team was eliminated in during 2023’s tournament.

The tournament begins on March 19, but Republic FC won’t hit the field until either May 7 or 8, the club said. An announcement concerning ticketing information for members and fans of Republic FC will come once the team learns about its opponent and venue for the Round of 32.

Other USL Championship teams that will be participating in the tournament include the reigning champions Phoenix Rising FC (the team that recently eliminated Sacramento in the Conference Championship), the Charleston Battery, Orange County SC, San Antonio FC, and more.

(FOX40.COM) — The season’s heaviest snowfall is coming to California in the next few days, and Sacramento is doing its part to protect its residents.

Video Above: Heavy snow headed to the Sierra, here’s how long the storm is expected to last

Sacramento County’s weather center will be opened at the Warren E Thornton Youth Center, 4000 Branch Road.

“Walk-ups will be accepted, with the OEC able to accommodate up to 50 guests as part of its weather-respite activation. The center has storage available for personal belongings if needed and will accept pets,” the city said on its website.

SacRT, as it typically does during inclement weather, will provide free rides to and from the OEC as long as this flyer, or a screenshot, is presented.

Weekend storm in Northern California brings downpour of rain, snow, winds for days to come

    [ad_1]

(FOX40.COM) –A beneficial storm that includes soaking rain, some snow, and gusty winds is making its way to Northern California, according to FOX40’s chief meteorologist, Adam Epstein.
First of two storms to hit Sacramento area on Saturday

“A weak atmospheric river will impact our area on Saturday. It will begin with showers in the morning, then heavier rain in the midday/afternoon,” Epstein said.

The heaviest rainfall is forecast from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday followed by tapers overnight.

Epstein said there will be a “solid soaking of rain, but no flooding concerns,” with an estimate of .25 – .75 inches of rain forecast to fall on Saturday, however, things change on Sunday.

Gusty winds are also in the forecast.

“It will be breezy, but gusts should remain below a damaging threshold,” Epstein said. “Gusts will be near 30 mph.”

A more impactful storm is forecast to last from Sunday to Tuesday. Showers are expected to return Sunday afternoon with heavy rain possible on Sunday evening, according to Epstein. A flood watch will be in effect for Sunday’s storm.

Periods of heavy rain are also forecast for Monday which will likely be accompanied by thunderstorms in the Valley and Foothills. One to three inches of rain is forecast in the Valley and two to five in the Foothills.

For those in the Sierra, light snow is forecast to fall on Saturday.

“Snow totals won’t turn many heads. I’m forecasting a modest two-eight inches of snow,” Epstein said. “There’s a ‘Winter Weather Advisory’ in effect above 6000 feet from 10 a.m. on Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, indicating difficult travel in that window.”

A stronger snow storm will arrive late Sunday and last through Tuesday, according to Epstein. One to three feet of snow is forecast to fall from 4 p.m. on Sunday to 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Snow level begins high near 7000 feet Sunday night and Monday morning,” Epstein said. “Drops to 5500 feet by the end of Monday and lingers near there through Tuesday.”

(FOX40.COM) — A man from Sacramento has been arrested and placed into a Sacramento County jail after he shot at another vehicle while driving on Interstate 5, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP said it believes that the incident was fueled by road rage and that the man, 27, is facing several charges, including attempted murder.

On December 30, the 27-year-old man was driving north along I-5 near Twin Cities Road, which is located in the southern part of Sacramento County. CHP officers said that the man shot five times at another vehicle.

No injuries were reported, but officers said that the shots “narrowly missed” an empty child car seat. “Thankfully, there were no injuries, but the potential for tragedy was unmistakable,” CHP said in a Facebook post.

Upon completing its investigation of the suspect, CHP found an unserialized short-barreled AR-15-style rifle, ammunition, and evidence of identity theft.

“This incident underscores the dangers of road rage and the lengths to which CHP will go to ensure the safety and security of our communities,” the agency’s post read.
