Wheel of Fortune fans are definitely into the new emcee: the 42nd season of Wheel of Fortune with Ryan Seacrest averaged its best premiere month audience in three years, making it the No. 1 series on TV, according to Nielsen results from Sony Pictures TV.
The premiere month (Sept. 9 through Oct. 6) reached 40M total viewers and viewership grew by 12% vs the same period last season. Viewership was up 12% vs. last season’s premiere month.
As the No. 1 entertainment program across TV, it’s averaging 7.99M total viewers STD, beating every series in primetime during the month of September across broadcast, cable and syndication. WoF is also up 3% in the A25-54 demo in the first month of season 42 vs. the first month of last season.
WoF is in its 42nd season in syndication, with Seacrest as host alongside Vanna White.The showis produced by Sony Pictures Television, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Company, and executive produced by Bellamie Blackstone.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Ryan Seacrest celebrated 20 years at KIIS FM by going on a “Thank You” tour Thursday and he even handed out prizes to his loyal followers.
It was cheers and smiles for Seacrest as the host greeted a waiting crowd at the final stop of the tour in Burbank.
“I remember on the first day I was terrified,” he told Eyewitness News. “I was so nervous, filling some very big shoes on such a legendary radio station, and to be able to do it 20 years later is incredible. I love coming to work.”
The day-long “Ryan’s Riding O.C. to L.A.” tour made various stops throughout Southern California, like the Disneyland Resort.
The day wrapped up at a Shell gas station on Hollywood Way in Burbank – just steps away from Seacrest’s previous apartment building. Fans were excited for free gas cards and a $1,000 raffle for bill money.
A lucky fan from Van Nuys walked away the winner, but meeting Seacrest was enough for others eager to meet the host.
“Ryan Seacrest is my inspiration. He’s the reason I left my job. I want to be an on-air host,” Ricardo Horna of West Hollywood said. “I also just admire everything that he’s done – how relatable he is, how personal he is when he meets people.”
One 9-year-old fan from Long Beach couldn’t get enough and saw Seacrest at various stops.
In between selfies and hugs, Seacrest even graciously shared a prediction about his other hosting gig, “American Idol,” ahead of the upcoming finale.
“I can’t wait for this season to run its course, and then we’re going to get excited about a new season,” he said. “I don’t know who’s going to fill Katy Perry’s seat, but we’re going to have to make an announcement soon.”
HOLLYWOOD — After thousands of hopefuls, and hundreds of young singers making their way to Hollywood… “American Idol” has named its Top 10.
“It will be difficult from here on out,” said host Ryan Seacrest.
“American Idol” had to say goodbye to Jayna Elise and Roman Collins to say hello to this season’s Top 10. And now that they’re here, the judges say they’ve got more work to do to stay here!
“Now it has to be individuality. In other words, it has to be where you actually stand out as the artist,” said Lionel Richie.
“It’s all about the strategy now and anyone that’s standing still, even if they’re playing an instrument, it’s not going to work anymore,” advised Katy Perry.
Luke Bryan agrees. “They’ve got to re-invent themselves and just get creative on how they stand out and catch America’s eyeballs.”
Those who made the top 10 reflected on their journey.
“I don’t think I’m the best person in this competition at all. Definitely should not win but, like, if they want to put me in another round, like, that’d be cool,” said Kayko.
“The sky is the limit, you know? Just standing here being surrounded by so many talented people is already reaching heights that I never imagined I could reach,” said Mia Matthews.
15-year-old Triston Harper isn’t sure why fans have taken a shine to his talent. “I don’t know. I reckon it’s just because I’m just this little Oklahoma boy who’s got this cute little accent or that Alabama smile.”
“American Idol” is back on Sunday, April 28, on ABC with Shania Twain as the guest mentor.
LOS ANGELES — What does it take to be an “American Idol?” The judges are weighing in.
“They just got to have the star ‘It’ factor, the magic,” said country superstar and judge Luke Bryan.
For Lionel Richie, all he thinks about is “instant identity.”
“In other words, five seconds into your voice, can I remember your voice?” he said.
“It’s intense. It’s exhausting for them,” said Katy Perry.
The three star judges along with host Ryan Seacrest are reflecting on Season 22’s contestants who have made it through to Hollywood Week.
“They just can do it, and you’re sucked into what they’re doing,” said Seacrest. “You don’t feel like they’re thinking so much about it when they’re performing. That’s power.”
Bryan said the first thing they see when they meet a contestant is innocence, youthfulness and hope.
“… and drive and determination,” he said. “And to get to where we have, you got to have all of that.”
Richie said every contestant that performs is 100% ready for what’s to come.
“That reminds me so much of us,” he said. “Me especially, because when I was 19 … The Commodores … we’re ready. Let us go. It was seven years later, we made it, you know, in terms of the hit, but they all think right now, today, ‘I just left my bedroom. I’m ready to kill it.’”
Perry doesn’t care what contestants choose to sing – it’s all about their spirit.
“They can sing one of our songs and make it sound like they wrote it, so if they embrace it, I’m in,” she said. “Really delivering it with their heart. It doesn’t matter if they get a little pitchy or if they don’t do it perfectly. If they connect emotionally, I think they win.”

“Home” will be one of the big themes for Season 22 of the reality competition series, as the show will visit hometowns of past winners like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. But in the end, all the contestants are hoping to hear one special phrase:
“It’s one of the great moments that every contestant wants to hear,” said Seacrest. “It is….”
“You’re going to Hollywood!” cheered Bryan, Perry and Richie.
“I say that in my sleep now,” laughed Perry.
These three judges are back for their seventh season on “Idol.” Seacrest has been at the helm as host since the beginning of the competition series.
Do they have fun? No doubt. However, they also know that for many of the contestants there is something much deeper going on here.
“Sometimes we’re kind of investing in the future too. These kids come from these backgrounds that nobody ever helped them in their music journey,” said Bryan.
“Or in life,” said Richie.
“So we like to, sometimes, roll the dice on somebody to see how they grow,” said Bryan. “It’s just magic. They create magic and you can’t take your eyes off of them.”
“We want the best for them and you know we are going to put them through their paces because we want them to win but yeah I know like, I can read the room anywhere I go that’s like my little special intuitive skill,” said Perry.
“I know that they don’t understand the journey that we have the ability to take them on. And so I’m sitting there, holding in our collective hands here, an opportunity for them to go forward,” said Richie.
Seacrest told us what we can expect from this season’s contestants: “Great stories, great voices. We think every time, you know, I talk about it, what’s gonna be out there? What’s left to find? What can we mine from this great nation? Well, a lot. And they did it.”
“American Idol” returns Sunday, Feb. 18 on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.

Pamela Bradshaw of North Carolina sure did when Ryan Seacrest announced that she had become the first Powerball millionaire of 2024.
After the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Rockin Eve, Seacrest revealed that one of five people were about to become $1 million richer in a second chance drawing. A bunch of red balls were scrambled in a see-through container, before one dropped that revealed Bradshaw was the winner.

Ryan Seacrest — a Hollywood staple on red carpets and behind the mic — will be the next host to take control of the famous wheel.
Sajak, 76, announced his retirement earlier this month, after 40 years on the syndicated game show.

Seacrest will take over duties in the 2024-25 season.
“I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White,” the American Idol host wrote on Twitter, sharing that one of his first-ever jobs was hosting a Merv Griffin gameshow called Click.
In a statement to People magazine, Suzanne Prete, the executive vice-president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, said Sajak will stay on in a three-year stint as a consultant for Wheel of Fortune.

Sajak has been the Wheel of Fortune host since 1981. The following year, his iconic co-host Vanna White joined the production to operate the gameshow board and reveal letters as they’re guessed by contestants.

White has one more year remaining on her current contract.
In an interview with Good Morning America in 2019, Sajak discussed a health scare that ruined his perfect attendance record for gameshow tapings. Though a blocked intestine and low blood pressure kept him from filming Wheel of Fortune at the time, Sajak said he’d like to remain the game show’s host for as long as he can.
“I’ve gotta do this until — you know — I’m doddering,” he said. “I think I still do it at a high level. But you know, I can’t do it another 40 years, I know that, because I’d be 110, and that would be a record.”

Seacrest ends a six-year run alongside Ripa. His replacement will be Ripa’s real-life husband, Mark Consuelos, and a frequent guest host. The show will be rebranded as “Live with Kelly and Mark.”
“I’m going to miss my work wife and all the laughter we share,” Seacrest wrote on Instagram. “When I signed on to host ‘Live’ in 2017 it was meant to be for three years, but I loved the job and working with Kelly so much that I extended my time and last year I made the decision to stay on for one more final season.”
Seacrest said he’ll stay busy shooting the new season of “American Idol,” his radio show on KIIS-FM and hosting “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
“Goodbyes are never easy, but we look forward to welcoming Ryan back regularly with open arms. As a fan-favorite guest host for years, Mark is no stranger to the ‘Live’ family. Having him join the show is so special for us and we’re sure that viewers will feel the same,” Michael Gelman, executive producer of “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” said in a statement.
“Live with Kelly and Ryan” on ABC is the No. 1 daytime talk show per household and in total viewership. Ripa has hosted “Live” since 2001, first with Regis Philbin and later with Michael Strahan.
“I’m so grateful to have spent the last six years beside my dear friend of too many decades to count and will miss starting my days with Ryan,” said Ripa in a statement. “Ryan’s energy, passion and love for entertainment is one-of-a-kind.”
After six years of co-hosting the titular “Live! With Kelly and Ryan,”Ryan Seacrest announced on Thursday that he will be departing the New York-based talk show in pursuit of moving back to Los Angeles to focus on other endeavors.
“This is something that [Kelly] and I have been talking about for a long time, and it was a tough, tough decision,” Seacrest told viewers. “Last year we spoke, and I made the decision to make this my last season as co-host.”
The TV personality and producer told fans he plans to move back west to focus on hosting the upcoming season of “American Idol,”the TV show that first made Seacrest a household name when he became host in 2002.
He will also continue to work with ABC hosting “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve.”
“You are a gem, you are one of my best friends and the greatest part of this entire experience has been that you’ve gone from being a friend to a family member,” Ripa emotionally told Seacrest during Thursday’s broadcast before joking that Seacrest had originally only agreed to do the show for three years.
Seacrest will be replaced by Ripa’s longtime husband, actor Mark Consuelos, and the show will be rebranded to “Live! With Kelly and Mark.”
Ripa called Consuelos “an extension” of Seacrest and one of the only people that she deemed “capable of holding [Seacrest’s] torch.”
“I can’t wait to watch,” Seacrest said excitedly.
Seacrest also shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post alongside a photo of him and Ripa.
“I’ve been grateful to be able to share a cup of coffee with our viewers everyday, one of the best parts of the gig,” he penned. “I’m looking forward to coming back to guest host in the future and Kelly, I promise to forever share my food photos, chicken eggs, and olive oil with you.”
In 2020, amid the pandemic, rumors had circulated that Seacrest suffered an on-air stroke during a broadcast where his speech appeared slurred and he jumbled his words.
His representative denied the health allegations but noted Seacrest would be slowing down after he did not appear on air the following day.
“Ryan did not have any kind of stroke last night. Like many people right now, Ryan is adjusting to the new normal and finding work-home balance, with the added stress of having to put on live shows from home,” the rep said at the time. “He has been juggling three to four on-air jobs over the last few weeks and he’s in need of rest.”
Seacrest’s net worth is an estimated $450 million.

The most well-known of the New Year’s Eve broadcasts starts at 8 p.m. ET. This is the 18th consecutive year Seacrest has been the master of ceremonies and this year’s event will originate from Times Square, Disneyland, Los Angeles and New Orleans. It will be broadcast over the air, but if you’re not near a TV, you can watch the coverage on network’s website, ABC.go.com. You will, however, need a cable subscription to watch on that platform.
Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party (NBC)
Miley Cyrus and her godmother (yes, really) Dolly Parton will lead the charge for NBC. This is the second year in a row Cyrus has overseen hosting duties. It begins airing at 10:30 p.m. ET with an array of musical and other guests. You can watch either over the air or, if you have a cable/satellite subscription, on NBC’s website, NBC.com/live or the Peacock app.
New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash (CBS)
CBS opts to boot scoop into the new year for the second year in a row with this country music-themed show. Airing from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m.- 1:30 a.m. ET, this celebration will include performances by artists including Brooks & Dunn, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Zac Brown Band. Free options to view it include the CBS Website and Paramount+.
New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen (CNN)
The cable network pairs its best-known anchor with the Bravo host for the sixth year in a row starting at 8:00 p.m. ET. A livestream will be available on CNN.com’s homepage and on mobile devices via CNN’s iOS and Android apps. It can also be viewed on CNNgo and the CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast and Android TV. The show will broadcast from Times Square.

Disney+
Disney’s bundle of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ no longer has a free trial, so you’ll have to pay $13.99 per month for all three combined (or $19.99 per month for no ads on Hulu). Including Live TV in the bundle bumps the price to $70 per month ($76 with no ads).

The implication is that Cohen will likely reel it in, too, or at least that’s how Seacrest seems to have interpreted it, even though Cohen has gone on record saying he intends to “party harder.” The clean-cut host told EW that he likes to stay sober when on the air. “I don’t know [when drinking during the broadcast] started as a tradition, but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN,” he said, adding, “I think they had something to say about my show at one point, which was I’m sure from the alcohol because I don’t think they would say what they said about our performers if they weren’t drinking. But, you know, I think our show’s a bigger, broader show and we will not drink until 1:05 in the morning.”
This is a specific call back to last year, when Cohen ranted about the guests on the ABC show, heckling “Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers!” while the legendary band Journey belted out a live version of the arena rock and/or insurance commercial staple “Any Way You Want It.”
Later, Cohen lost it, disrespecting vocalist Arnel Pineda, suggesting that any Journey lineup without Steve Perry was a fraud.

Cohen texted an apology to Seacrest, according to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He called the incident “an offhanded comment about nothing that really had to do with him. It was about Journey. I was really going after the current iteration of Journey. Because I’m a big Steve Perry fan.”
But anyone still miffed about the journey to the current position has a little bit of a point: In reality, Steve Perry was not even one of the founding members of Journey. Duran Duran, fresh off an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, will play from a catalogue that includes hits like “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “The Reflex” and “Rio.” R&B and pop group New Edition will celebrate their 40th anniversary by performing a medley of chart-toppers and solo hits like “Rub You The Right Way,” “My Prerogative,” “Poison,” “If It Isn’t Love,” and “Cool It Now.”
J-hope, South Korean songwriter and member of BTS, will play a medley of his “= (Equal Sign),” “Chicken Noodle Soup” and the band’s “Butter.” And Tik-Tok star Jax will sing pop hits “Victoria’s Secret” and “90s Kids.” Singer and rapper Farruko will perform from Puerto Rico.
Actress and producer Liza Koshy will return as co-host alongside Seacrest, actor-singer Roselyn Sanchez will co-host from Puerto Rico and Billy Porter will be back in New Orleans for the Central Time Zone countdown.
There will be pre-taped performances in Disneyland from Aly & AJ, Bailey Zimmerman, Ben Platt, Ciara, Fitz & The Tantrums, Halle Bailey, Lauren Spencer Smith, Maddie & Tae, Shaggy and TXT. And from Los Angeles, there will be performances by Armani White, Betty Who, Dove Cameron, Finneas, Nicky Youre and Wiz Khalifa.
Seacrest, inheritor of ABC’s legendary “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” from Dick Clark, reached 19.6 million viewers between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., last New Year’s Eve, according to Nielsen. During the 15-minute interval where the ball dropped in New York’s Times Square, his audience jumped to 24.2 million people.
