American Express is planning to refresh the Platinum card soon. Part of the refresh is new benefits ($600 hotel credit, $400 Resy credit, $300 Lululemon credit) and an increased annual fee. The first rumor we received was regarding a mirror finish on the card and American Express has released a teaser of what that will look like along with a “coming soon”.

There is a rumor circulating that the American Express Platinum will add two new credits:
American Express already leaked that the Platinum card will have a new $600 FHR credit ($300 semi annual). There has also been rumors that the Platinum annual fee will increase to $895 and have a mirror finish. I suspect the Lululemon & Resy credits would replace Saks and Equinox credits, but that is just speculation on my part. These new credits with the FHR credit would turn this into a keeper card for me assuming the $895 annual fee is accurate, hopefully it launches with a large sign up bonus/no lifetime language.

It’s possible this will coincide with the launch of the U.S. Bank Smartly card. Previously the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve card stopped accepting applications for a few months before returning. I have no idea how reliable this rumor is at all.

There is currently a qwww link (American Express often tests things here first before launching) showing an annual fee on the American Express Gold card of $325. Currently the annual fee is $250 and it was increased from $195 in 2018. There doesn’t seem to be any other benefits that have changed, but that doesn’t mean that will be the case if/when the annual fee is increased (in fact I’d be surprised if they don’t make some changes).
