Prince William Thinks Kate Middleton Is “Crazy” for Swimming in Cold Water

    [ad_1]

Kate Middleton continues to back up her Sporty Spice reputation, revealing that she is fiercely competitive and that she has at least one fitness passion that husband Prince William thinks is “crazy.”

Back in September, Princess Kate, William, and Princess Anne sat down with Mike Tindall, husband of Zara Tindall, Anne’s daughter, for an episode of his podcast The Good, the Bad, and the Rugby.

“I really generally love all sports,” the Princess of Wales told Tindall, a former professional rugby player. “Personally, I love swimming. I absolutely love it. The colder the better. I absolutely love it. Slightly to the point where William says, ‘Catherine, you’re crazy.’”

And, as Tindall revealed, she gets others to go along with her on her polar bear swims.

“It’s dark and it’s raining and I’ll go and seek out cold water,” Kate said of her hobby.

She and William are also wildly competitive in athletics, including when they’re playing against one another.

“I don’t think we’ve managed to finish a game of tennis, the two of us,” Kate said. “It becomes a mental challenge between the two of us.”

“I’m not going to say you’re uber competitive, but…” Tindall said, laughing. “I’ve seen her play beer pong!”

She also revealed that she and William have “recently got into playing paddle tennis.”

As it turns out, paddle tennis (also called padel) is a close cousin of, you guessed it, pickleball. Very on trend for the young royals.

Dave Chisnall: “I’m playing some good darts. I think I played better yesterday than I did today, but luckily for me I got away with a few games early on and did the job”

    Last Updated: 02/11/23 9:35pm

Dave Chisnall proved too strong for Jim Williams in Thursday’s Players Championship 30, triumphing 8-4

Dave Chisnall claimed a fifth ranking title of 2023 as the ProTour season concluded with Players Championship 30 in Barnsley on Thursday.

Morecambe-based Chisnall has enjoyed a superb year on the circuit, winning three European Tour events and September’s Players Championship 23 in a memorable campaign.

He added a further title to end the Players Championship season in style on Thursday, overcoming Jim Williams 8-4 to scoop the £12,000 top prize.

Chisnall warmed up for the forthcoming Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts and Cazoo Players Championship Finals in style with seven superb victories in Event 30, with the highlight being a 111.35 average in a 6-2 quarter-final win over Scott Waites.

Chisnall also averaged over 105 in his Last 16 win over Jamie Hughes, and averaged at least 92 in each of his other five wins, which included early round defeats of Jeffrey Sparidaans and Irish duo Dylan Slevin and Steve Lennon.

He followed up his super-show in the quarter-finals by overcoming Winmau World Youth Championship finalist Gian van Veen 7-4, opening up a 4-1 lead before holding out for victory.

Chisnall then proved too strong for Williams in the decider, with a devastating six-leg burst seeing him open up a 6-1 advantage over the Welshman.

Williams won two of the next three to maintain his hopes, but Chisnall followed up a 167 checkout in leg ten with a seventh 180 of the contest as he closed out victory – going one better than on Wednesday when he was the runner-up to Gerwyn Price.

“I’m playing some good darts,” said Chisnall. “I think I played better yesterday than I did today, but luckily for me I got away with a few games early on and did the job.

“I know I can play the game, I’m playing well and it shows – it’s a good job there was no Gezzy here today to stop me!

“If I can keep winning these, it keeps me up the rankings. If I put some time in, I’ll definitely be better – I’m alright at the moment.”

Williams’ run to the final was his best result on the circuit this year – bettering his semi-final appearance in Players Championship 25 – as he won through to the decider.

His best display statistically came in a Last 16 victory over Mario Vandenbogaerde, where he averaged 105.27, in a result which was sandwiched between averages of 99 and 98 in wins over Josh Rock and Danny Noppert respectively, while he saw off Damon Heta 7-5 in a see-saw semi-final.

Heta was a semi-finalist for the 12th time on the PDC ProTour this year, seeing off World Champion Michael Smith in another strong day of darts.

Van Veen, meanwhile, followed up last weekend’s run to the semi-finals of the Machineseeker European Championship by reaching the last four of a third Players Championship in his breakthrough year.

Smith, Noppert and Waites were joined in the quarter-finals by youngster Cam Crabtree – who won through to the last eight for the second time on the ProTour but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Players Championship Finals.

Former Grand Slam champion Waites needed to reach Thursday’s final to snatch qualification for the Players Championship Finals, and defeated Krzysztof Ratajski and Ross Smith in his valiant run to the last eight, meaning that he also missed out on a spot in Minehead later this month.

Ricky Evans held on to claim the 64th place in the Players Championship Finals on a memorable day which saw him land a nine-dart finish in the second leg of his first round win over Callan Rydz – taking just 36 seconds to complete a perfect leg!

European Championship winner Peter Wright headlined the stars who missed out on qualifying for the Players Championship Finals following his first round exit on Thursday.

Former finalist Mervyn King, World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall and Mensur Suljovic will also miss the Minehead event, which features the top 64 from the Players Championship Order of Merit following this year’s 30 events.

Welshman Price, who won four of the last eight events he competed in during 2023, topped the final Players Championship Order of Merit, ahead of Gary Anderson, Heta and Chisnall.

England vs Canada: Changes made to women’s rugby will ‘help the game grow’ says Louis Deacon

England got their WXV campaign off to a winning start beating Australia 42-7 last Friday; They come up against Canada on Friday in the second of their three games in New Zealand

    Last Updated: 25/10/23 2:16pm

England Women’s will take on Canada on Friday after winning both games against them during pre-season

England Women’s interim head coach Louis Deacon has praised the changes made by the World Rugby Council saying it will help the women’s game grow.

The transformational reforms for the women’s game mean there will be no overlap between international and club fixtures for the first time from 2026.

It will allow for clearly defined global and regional player release periods in the women’s game which will promote opportunity and growth ahead of an expanded 16-team Rugby World Cup in 2025.

“This is massively exciting for the women’s game that these things have been put in place, really positive, it shows that it is continuing to grow and it will mean the players can solely focus on international periods or domestic periods,” said Deacon.

Red Roses captain Marlie Packer echoed this sentiment saying it will allow players will benefit from a schedule which should see less fixture congestion.

“The players will get a proper rest period so we can come into our pre-season ready to do,” Packer said.

“Calendars won’t be overlapping with each other which means seasons can be prolonged or extended or we have a quick turn around of tournaments.

“It’s about the welfare of the players and I think it’s a really good thing that will happen to the game.”

The Red Roses will continue their inaugural WXV campaign this Friday when they take on Canada after kicking off the tournament with an emphatic 42-7 victory over Australia last Friday.

England have made nine changes to their starting line-up for their second match of the WXV 1 tournament against Canada on Friday.

Canada also began their WXV campaign with an impressive 42-22 win over Wales, but lost to England in their two pre-season matches, albeit the scoreline becoming tighter each time.

“Canada are a very athletic side, and their set-piece is very good. For me the standout player is Sophie de Goede, she can make anything happen. The way she plays the game and sees the game is exceptional,” said Packer.

Canada captain De Goede scored the opening try within four minutes and added six conversions in her side’s opening game against Wales.

England got their WXV tournament campaign off to a winning start with a 42-7 victory over Australia

England got their WXV tournament campaign off to a winning start with a 42-7 victory over Australia

During England’s game against Australia, Packer scored two tries and keeps her place in the side while full-back Ellie Kildunne – who has three tries in her last two outings against the Canadians – and wing Claudia MacDonald return to the back three, alongside Abby Dow.

Helena Rowland switches to outside centre where she will join Amber Reed in midfield, with scrum-half Natasha Hunt named as Holly Aitchison’s half-back partner.

“When you have got a squad of 30 players, you need to have players that are adaptable. In our first game it was about giving people opportunities and that was one of the combinations we looked at,” said Deacon.

“Players need to be versatile when you have 30 available, so that’s why we’ve moved Helena around.”

A fresh front row sees Mackenzie Carson, Lark Atkin-Davies and Sarah Bern start, while Cath O’Donnell is back in the second row beside Zoe Aldcroft.

Morwenna Talling is selected at blindside flanker as captain Marlie Packer and Alex Matthews continue at openside flanker and No 8 respectively.

“Every player will be ready for the game, just because we have played Canada twice won’t make us any less aware of what we’re going into and we have to put a good performance in,” said Packer.

“We’ve been training with each other and there’s been a lot of time to discuss things but whatever 15-players go out there, I know they will do the job.

“We’re striving to be the best version of ourselves and it doesn’t matter about who has started and who hasn’t.”

Red Roses line-up: 15. Ellie Kildunne (Harlequins), 14. Abby Dow (Trailfinders Women), 13. Helena Rowland – vice-captain (Loughborough Lightning), 12. Amber Reed (Bristol Bears), 11. Claudia MacDonald (Exeter Chiefs), 10. Holly Aitchison (Bristol Bears), 9. Natasha Hunt (Gloucester-Hartpury)
