  • Princess Diana’s Niece Lady Amelia Spencer Gets Married in South Africa

Princess Diana’s Niece Lady Amelia Spencer Gets Married in South Africa

    [ad_1]

Nearly three years after announcing their engagement, Lady Amelia Spencer—daughter of Charles, Earl Spencer, and niece of Princess Diana—and longtime boyfriend Greg Mallett were married in a ceremony in South Africa. According to Hello, the ceremony took place on a mountaintop near Cape Town, and was attended by Amelia’s twin sister Lady Eliza Spencer, older sister Lady Kitty Spencer, and younger brother Samuel Spencer.

“It means so much to get married here,” Amelia told the magazine. “Growing up here together for the last 14 years, all of mine and Greg’s happiest times as a couple are here. It’s even more special now.”

The couple met as students at the University of Cape Town. Greg, a fitness and nutrition coach, told Hello, “I’ve been dreaming of watching Amelia walk down the aisle for 14 years.”

Born in London in 1992, Amelia moved to South Africa along with her father, mother Victoria Aitken, and siblings in 1995. Her father returned to the UK after his 1997 divorce from Victoria, who remained in South Africa with their children. According to the Mirror, Charles was not present at Amelia’s wedding or at Kitty’s 2021 wedding to businessman Michael Lewis

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020, after Greg proposed at Cloud Estate, a vineyard in Stellenbosch. In a September 2020 interview with Hello, Greg described the proposal, which took place in a hotel room decorated with rose petals and champagne.

“I had one big pink box, inside which I put in eight smaller boxes, decreasing in size,” he said. “In each box was a photograph of a ‘first time’ The final box contained a note instead of a picture, that said: ‘But most importantly, I know that you will remember tonight as the night that I proposed.’ As Amelia was reading the note, I dropped to one knee with the ring.”

  • David Attenborough Honors Queen Elizabeth By Planting an Oak Tree

David Attenborough Honors Queen Elizabeth By Planting an Oak Tree

    [ad_1]

On Monday, nature icon David Attenborough traveled to London’s Richmond Park to plant an oak tree in honor of his late friend, Queen Elizabeth II. He also led a tree planting masterclass with broadcaster Clare Balding and a group of junior foresters who represent the Queen’s Green Canopy charity, and said a few words about the queen’s natural legacy.

    Twitter content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

“The Queen’s Green Canopy has created an invaluable national legacy for our children, future generations and the planet itself,” Attenborough said, according to The Telegraph. “The late Queen was very fond of the Royal Parks and was a great lover of trees, so this is a fitting tribute to her memory. Its creation also marks the continuing conservation of this protected landscape, and the wonderful wildlife within, so that it can be enjoyed by many generations to come.”

The Telegraph added that Attenborough’s oak was just one of 70 trees recently planted in the park to honor the queen. “They have been planted around a focal point which will later incorporate a seating area for rest and reflection, with the larger canopy trees complemented by smaller native trees and hedging such as hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, elder and dogwood,” they added. “It is hoped it will create a new habitat to support wildlife, including the endangered white-letter hairstreak butterfly and the cardinal click beetle.”

In May 2021, the queen and King Charles III launched the Queen’s Green Canopy by planting their own sapling near Windsor Castle. They were promoting an initiative called Plant a Tree for the Jubilee, which aimed to plant trees across the United Kingdom in honor of the monarch’s 70 years on the throne. The program grew out of a 2015 initiative called the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, where she asked governments in the voluntary group to set aside acreage of native forest in her honor.

The queen celebrated the success of the jubilee plantings with a heartfelt message after its initial planting season. “I am deeply touched that so many community groups, schools, families and individuals have made their own unique contributions to the Green Canopy initiative,” she wrote in March 2022. “I hope your Jubilee trees flourish and grow for many years to come, for future generations to enjoy.” But after her death, the QGC decided to extend the program to the end of March 2023, so that further trees could be planted in her honor.

Attenborough and the late queen, who were born days apart in 1926, shared their love of trees in the 2018 BBC documentary The Queen’s Green Planet, which focused on the work done by the queen’s commonwealth initiative. The pair traveled through a 40-acre royal park, and the queen pointed out a few of the trees that have been planted in honor of members of the royal family’s honor.

  • Kate Middleton Debuts New Task Force Devoted to Early Childhood Development

Kate Middleton Debuts New Task Force Devoted to Early Childhood Development

    [ad_1]

Kate Middleton is continuing her mission to prioritize early childhood development not just within families, but also businesses and the financial community at large.

The Princess of Wales held the first meeting of her new Business Taskforce for Early Childhood on Tuesday morning at NatWest bank’s London headquarters, inviting some of Britain’s biggest business and financial leaders to pitch them on the next stage of her initiative. This latest development comes after the launch of her Shaping Us campaign in January, the goal of which is to take all of the scientific and academic endeavors in this field and turn them into “strategically important” ones. The royal told those gathered that she hopes this Business Taskforce will be essential in helping her change the way society views and prioritizes young children and their environments.

In a speech delivered during the meeting, Kate explained that her mission “is about looking at childhood holistically. Looking upstream in a preventative manner to promote healthy life outcomes for us all. From pregnancy to age five, our brains develop at an amazing rate, faster than any other age. During this time, we lay the foundations and building blocks for life. It is when we learn to understand ourselves, understand others and learn about the world in which we live.” She added that those experiences, “lay the scaffolding for our abilities and capabilities as we grow…This time really is a golden opportunity to transform our future life outcomes.”

She continued, “This however is not just about supporting children in the earliest years of their lives. It is also about building healthy communities in which they can grow. Because the healthy development of our children relies on healthy adults. So this is why we all have a part to play. And that is why I’m standing here in front of you, to ask you, some of Britain’s most influential business leaders, for your support in helping create the societal change that is needed.” The royal noted that she hopes the business world will realize the importance of the role they play in all of this, the same way they have “embraced the net zero target to protect our environmental ecosystems…Building healthy environments both in and out of the workplace is fundamental.”

Kate explained, “I believe therefore that we need two things to really transform society for generations to come. The first is to prioritize creating working environments that provide the support and training your workforce needs to cultivate and maintain its own social and emotional wellbeing…The second is a more concentrated effort in supporting the social and emotional development of our youngest children. Because as with most human development, the key time to build these social and emotional skills in the first place is in the first five years.” She concluded, “I truly believe that by investing in early childhood, with a specific focus on social and emotional development, businesses in turn will see in the future…better communication, better working relationships, improved resilience, employees finding better work–life balance, less stress, more patience and understanding and increased job satisfaction. Not only that, but the societal impact we could have, if we work together on this, could transform lives for generations to come. As the saying goes, it really does take a village.”

Amanda Berry, the chief executive of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales, said in a statement regarding the task force meeting, “We all have a role to play in building a supportive and nurturing world around children and those who care for them, and it is fantastic to see business leaders placing the subject of early childhood at the heart of their organizations. Businesses play a key role within society and with their huge reach to their employees, consumer and the wider community, their involvement can have a transformative impact on the health and happiness of generations to come.”

  • Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Make Multiple Requests Before Agreeing To Attend King Charles’ Coronation: Sources

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Make Multiple Requests Before Agreeing To Attend King Charles’ Coronation: Sources

    [ad_1]

    By Becca Longmire.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly have a few problems with attending King Charles III upcoming coronation on May 6.

The pair’s spokesperson confirmed earlier this month that they’d received an invite to the royal event.

However, they allegedly have a bit of an issue with the fact their children Archie, who turns 4 on the day of the coronation, and Lilibet, 1, weren’t included.

The Times reported Archie and Lilibet have “not yet been invited,” Yahoo! News claimed.

It’s thought Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, who turns 5 next month, who are all older than the Sussex’s children, will be involved.

Another concern is that Harry and Meghan reportedly want Archie to get a birthday shout-out at some point in the day, even if it’s just a quick mention.

A source told OK! Magazine: “Archie’s birthday falls on May 6th, coronation day and the Sussexes want the family to recognize that.

“The Sussexes have asked for some kind of celebration or acknowledgement to be factored into the day’s plans to ensure that his fourth birthday won’t get lost during the momentous day.”

As well as reportedly asking to stay at Frogmore Cottage with Princess Eugenie, a source also said the Sussexes wanted a spot on the balcony.

“This could prove a real sticking point because the Palace have narrowed it down to only working members of the royal family on the balcony,” the source said. “Harry and Meghan are keen that they too should be a part of that special family moment.”

As well as all the above, security is an issue.

“There is still an ongoing legal case between the Sussexes and the Home Office over their security. The couple wants more security while they are in the U.K. and this needs to be ironed out before they attend the coronation,” the source said.

ET Canada has contacted Harry and Meghan’s rep for comment.

  • Princess Kate Celebrates Mother’s Day With a New Portrait of All Three of Her Kids

Princess Kate Celebrates Mother’s Day With a New Portrait of All Three of Her Kids

    [ad_1]

Princess Kate celebrated Mother’s Day in the UK by sharing a new portrait of herself with her three children.

To commemorate the holiday, the royal shared a photo of herself sitting in a tree with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis on her and husband Prince William‘s joint Instagram account on Sunday. “Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours ❤️,” the Princess of Wales captioned the image. For the family portrait taken by photographer Matt Porteous, Kate wore a white button-up shirt, jeans, and white sneakers, while George wore a blue polo shirt and black shorts, Charlotte wore a denim romper, and Louis wore a black-and-white striped polo with jean shorts. In a second image she shared on social media, Kate can be seen cradling her youngest son in her arms as she looks down at him lovingly. Based on their outfits, the pictures appear to have been taken at the same time as the family’s 2022 Christmas card. Those photos showed all five family members holding hands as they strolled down a sunny country lane near their new home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, part of the royal family’s Sandringham Estate.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their children are currently all gearing up for King Charles‘s coronation on May 6, which George, Charlotte, and Louis “are expected to join their parents” for, per The Times. They will all be on “public display” in a horse-drawn carriage as it leaves Westminster Abbey following the crowning ceremony. But according to The Telegraph, William and Kate are still debating whether or not to give their eldest son an official role in the coronation proceedings. During past coronations, the younger heirs to the throne have traditionally remained in the congregation.

However, George might get to take part in a newly televised aspect of the ceremony as there is some discussion of making the previously private moment when the Archbishop of Canterbury rubs the new monarchs with oil under a canopy public. The Sunday Times reported that Queen Consort Camilla would like to include her five teenage grandchildren into the ceremony by having them hold the canopy during this important moment. The outlet added that Charles and Camilla met with Kate and William to discuss the possibility of incorporating George into that element of the ceremony as well. “It sends a nice signal and is quite a bold move,” a source told the outlet. “It is another example of the king and queen Consort being unafraid to shake things up a bit to reflect the realities of modern life, of which a blended family is a central element.”

  • ‘The Crown’: All Hail First Look of Prince William and Kate Middleton in Season 6

‘The Crown’: All Hail First Look of Prince William and Kate Middleton in Season 6

    [ad_1]

The sixth and final season of The Crown is currently underway, and two of its most important subjects have finally been revealed. New photos of Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, who play college-aged versions of Prince William and Kate Middleton, respectively, have surfaced as they film what appears to be the royal couple’s first meeting.

McVey and Bellamy, both relative newcomers, were spotted filming in St Andrews, Scotland, the spot where William and Kate met in 2001 while studying at the University of St Andrews, on March 17. In the photos, McVey’s William inquisitively looks up at Kate as she passes by, hinting that this could be their first moment running into one another.

“When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her, and then I knew there was possibly something I wanted to explore there, but we ended up being friends for a while,” William said during the couple’s 2010 engagement interview with ITV News. “That was a good sort of foundation. I do genuinely believe now that being friends with [each other] is a massive advantage.”

Years before their 2011 wedding at London’s Westminster Abbey, which was watched by some 72 million people, William and Kate “took a break” following graduation. “I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person” Kate said during the same interview. “You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized—I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger—and I really valued that time for me, as well.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s courtship is one of several subjects that will be explored in the final installment of  Netflix’s Emmy-winning series on the heels of the splashy fifth season. Most notably, new episodes will chronicle Diana’s tragic 1997 deathRufus Kampa has been cast as a slightly more junior version of William, who was just 15 years old when his mother died in a car accident. Other storylines may include 9/11; the queen’s Golden Jubilee, celebrating her 50 years on the throne; and the deaths of Princess Margaret and the Queen Mum in 2002.

Returning royal family cast members include Imelda Staunton as Queen ElizabethJonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret.

The Crown’s final season will be released amidst turmoil within the monarchy, including the release of Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare and the death of Queen Elizabeth II. When the monarch died, the series paused production in honor of her. Series creator Peter Morgan also issued this statement about his show’s real-life inspiration: “The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect.”

  • Prince Joachim of Denmark Is Moving to America

Prince Joachim of Denmark Is Moving to America

    [ad_1]

Prince Joachim of Denmark is making a big move overseas.

In an Instagram post on the official Danish royals account, Joachim and his wife Princess Marie announced that they will be moving to Washington, D.C. at the end of the summer. “On 1 September 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Joachim will take up a new position under the Ministry of Defense as defense industry attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C., where the Prince, as Denmark’s representative, will in the coming years help to strengthen the defense industry cooperation with the USA and Canada,” the statement reads.

The couple previously moved to France four years ago with two of their children, and the caption explains, “The reason was that Prince Joachim initiated France’s highest-ranking military training course as a supplement to the Prince’s many years of involvement in the Armed Forces.” The palace continued, “After graduation, both the Prince and Princess were associated with the Danish Embassy in Paris as the Defence Attaché and Special Cultural Representative, respectively.”

This announcement comes after Queen Margrethe revealed last year that she was stripping Joachim’s four children of their prince or princess titles, as well as the “His/Her Highness” styling. Instead, at the beginning of 2023, they all became known instead as simply His Excellency Count of Monpezat or Her Excellency Countess of Monpezat. The change has caused some friction within Denmark’s royal family. Shortly after the queen made that decision, Prince Joachim told the national newspaper Ekstra Bladet he was in total shock at the decision, claiming that he was only given five days notice. “We are all very sad. It’s never fun to see your children being mistreated like that,” he said. “They find themselves in a situation they do not understand.” While the queen has previously said her son had known about this transition for months, he claimed, “In May, I was presented with a plan, which basically stated that when the children each turned 25, it would happen,” referring to his youngest child, he added, “Athena turns 11 in January.” When asked how this decision has affected his relationship with his mother, Joachim paused emotionally before concluding, “I don’t think I need to elaborate here,” and walking away.

Shortly after that announcement, Queen Margrethe issued an apology saying she “underestimated” the impact this would have and “the extent to which my younger son and his family feel affected. That makes a big impression, and for that I am sorry.” But she also went on to call the change “necessary future-proofing of the monarchy.”

  • Princess Kate Unveils Another New Name at the Irish Guards St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Princess Kate Unveils Another New Name at the Irish Guards St. Patrick’s Day Parade

    [ad_1]

Last year, Kate Middleton got a few new titles, including the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. But at a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Aldershot on Friday, Prince William revealed another new name when he called her “Colonel Catherine.” In December, she took over for William as the regiment’s colonel after King Charles III named him the new Colonel of the Welsh Guards.

In a speech at the event, William referenced the handover and his history at the event. “On this, my 13th and final St. Patrick’s Day as colonel, not only am I saddened that I’ll likely fail once again to finish a pint of Guinness… but I am also sad that I won’t in future see more of you, the families, whose unwavering support enables these outstanding men and women to do what they do,” he said. “I may be stepping aside, but in Colonel Catherine, you have a committed, focused, and already incredibly loyal 11th colonel.”

Kate, wearing a turquoise suit by Catherine Walker, also gave some remarks about her new duty. “I really couldn’t be prouder to stand in front of you here today. It really is a true honor to be your Colonel. I am here to listen to you, to support you, and to champion you in all you do – this is a responsibility I do not take lightly,” she said. “I look forward to spending more time with you and your families, seeing your commitment to duty and service in all you do.”

During the event, she also wore a piece of familiar shamrock brooch that represents the royal regiment. According to jewelry expert Maxwell Stone of Steven Stone, the brooch is usually loaned to a royal woman by the Irish Guards. “Believed to have been designed by Cartier, the piece is made from 18 carat yellow gold and features a tiny, single emerald at the center of the textured leaves,” he said.  “Previously worn by the Queen Mother and Princess Anne, Kate has worn the brooch on several visits to Northern Ireland, as well as to St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.”

On March 8, Kate went on her first official engagement as the regiment’s colonel when visited a training center in Salisbury Plain. She even donned a camo suit and joined in the training in the snow. Photos of the engagement were posted to the couple’s Instagram account with a caption reading, “The work of the Irish Guards is as wide-ranging as it is exemplary, from training park rangers on counter-poaching in East Africa to de-mining training for Ukrainian Armed Forces. Fantastic to be with ‘The Micks’ today seeing their hard work (whatever the weather!)”

I recently traveled to Switzerland and came back with a brand-new obsession with watches. It’s kind of like the viral TikTok sound that originally came from The Office: “This is a dream I’ve had since lunch and I am not giving up on it now.” Even though I haven’t owned a watch since I got a Marc by Marc Jacobs watch for Christmas in high school, I’m suddenly interested in all things horological.

Naturally, I found a way to combine my newfound passion with my long-established interest in royals: documenting their watch collections. Kate Middleton Just Gave This Controversial Runway Trend Her Stamp of Approval

    [ad_1]

If, even after spotting peplum silhouettes in nearly every fall/winter 2023 collection throughout fashion month, you’re still not convinced that they’re worth giving a second chance to, the news I’m about to share with you is bound to put you over the edge. After all, I’ve yet to come across a fashion item worn by Kate Middleton that didn’t go absolutely viral, and no matter how controversial peplum is, the hatred around it doesn’t come close to balancing out the influential abilities of the Princess of Wales.

If you haven’t already guessed, Middleton was spotted earlier today wearing a peplum Erdem blazer with a matching printed midi skirt at the 2023 Commonwealth Day Service held at Westminster Abbey in London, giving the once “out” trend a supersized push toward the “in” pile. With the two-piece navy-and-blue set, she wore matching Gianvito Rossi pumps, an Emmy London clutch, and a pair of double-drop diamond-and-sapphire earrings that were once owned by Princess Diana.

Though her entire look was chic and glamorous—like most she’s worn—I can’t help but continue to go back to her peplum top and, more so, what it means for the trend’s fate that she chose it for the occasion. Below, check out Middleton’s take on the peplum look vs. the ways it was styled on the runway this season. My guess? With her royal stamp of approval, peplum’s comeback is going to be bigger and better than anyone could’ve predicted.

King Charles Is Getting A ‘Noble’ New Horse From Canada. How The Royal Tradition Works

    [ad_1]

Britain’s King Charles III has been gifted a new horse, named Noble, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as part of a long-standing royal tradition.

“Noble was selected as the ideal horse for His Majesty because of her size and ability,” Royal Communications said in a statement on Saturday.

Charles met Noble, who was bred and trained in Pakenham, Ont., for the first time earlier this week.

Noble was recognized for her “superior physical and athletic ability, as well as her composed personality,” the palace statement said.

“Her calm demeanor allows her to thrive in the sometimes raucous atmosphere of [an] exciting public event.”

Charles, 74, automatically became king in September on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, who was a keen rider and loved horses.

The official coronation ceremony for him and his wife Camilla, the queen consort, will take place on May 6.

This is not the first time the RCMP has gifted a horse to the British Royal Family.

The long tradition of gifting horses dates back to 1969, when the RCMP presented Queen Elizabeth II with the jet-black horse that would go on to become her favourite — Burmese.

Over the course of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II received eight horses from the Mounties, and she gifted back two from her stables.

One of those is Victoria, a five-year-old mare bred from a Canadian horse named Elizabeth that the RCMP had gifted to the Queen in 2012.

Kate Middleton Wore the Pretty Skirt Trend That’s Ideal If You Hate Miniskirts

    [ad_1]

For the past several seasons, miniskirts have ruled the skirt kingdom. And then last fall, maxi skirts started to fight for attention and a place in our closets. Now, there’s a new skirt trend vying for our love, but like most skirt trends, it isn’t new at all.

The trend is full midi skirts, and I’m actually a bit surprised by it. It’s pretty much the opposite of Y2K inspired, unlike seemingly every trend these days, so it’s quite refreshing. It’s also very appropriate for Kate Middleton’s classic wardrobe (which is unlikely to contain any low-rise miniskirts). Earlier this week, Middleton opted to wear a full midi skirt from Zara, which is now sold out, unfortunately. She paired the tweed black-and-white skirt with a cream turtleneck and coat and black knee boots. It’s the perfect way to style a swingy skirt during late winter, and once the weather warms up, you can take the same skirt. Just swap the turtleneck for a tank top and the boots for sandals.

  • Sarah Ferguson Has “No Judgment” Towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Sarah Ferguson Has “No Judgment” Towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

    [ad_1]

As someone who has felt judged her whole life, Sarah Ferguson said she wouldn’t dream of criticizing another person’s choices.

The Duchess of York revealed that she has “no judgment” towards Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for deciding to step down as senior royals and forge their own path for their family in California. The royal told People in an interview published Thursday, “I don’t believe that any single person has the right to judge another person. I’m not in a position myself to make any judgments. I have been judged all my life, and I have no judgment on the Sussexes.” And she added that, most importantly, “I think that [Princess] Diana would be incredibly proud of her grandchildren. And not just the Sussex grandchildren, but Will’s children.” Harry and Meghan are parents to a 3-year-old son Archie and 1-year-old daughter Lilibet Diana, while Prince William and his wife Princess Kate have three kids of their own, 9-year-old Prince George, 7-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 4-year-old Prince Louis.

This is a sentiment Fergie has expressed in the past. In July 2021, she also told the outlet that the late Princess Diana “would be very proud of her sons and their wives,” adding, “And she would be just like me, obsessed with her grandchildren. Because that’s what she loved.” She explained that the princess, “adored my girls. She adored the boys. This would be her haven. Her heaven. If she were sitting with me right now, I know she would say, ‘I am so proud of both of my boys and the wonderful wives they have chosen.’ Because each has got her own voice.” The duchess went on to explain that the reason she can say all of this about the late royal with such confidence is because “We were best friends from when she was 14 and I was 15.” She continued, “She taught me so much of public life. She was so brave. We used to have the most incredible time together.” And despite the tabloid speculation that they’d had a falling out prior to Diana’s death in 1997, Ferguson claims, “We promised each other we would always be together—there was never any daylight between us. But everybody wanted that, because we were so strong together. People want to break something so strong.”

These days, the royal is enjoying being a grandmother herself as her daughter Princess Beatrice is mother to a 1-year-old daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, and stepmother to her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi‘s 7-year-old son Wolfie from a previous relationship. Her younger daughter Princess Eugenie welcomed her son August in February 2021 with husband Jack Brooksbank and is currently expecting their second child. Fergie revealed that the children “just follow me around like Pete Pan,” joking, “I’m Super Gran Pan!” She concluded, “Everyone says, ‘Oh, has it changed your life?’ And I go, ‘No, because I live [in the mindset of ] 3- to 6-year-olds.’ So I’ve now got another audience that likes me.”

  • Prince Harry Announces Special Discussion of His Memoir Spare with Dr. Gabor Maté

Prince Harry Announces Special Discussion of His Memoir Spare with Dr. Gabor Maté

    [ad_1]

Prince Harry will once again discuss the contents of his memoir Spare, this time with a special guest.

The Duke of Sussex’s publisher Penguin Random House announced exclusively to People that the royal will be sitting down on Saturday with Dr. Gabor Maté for an international livestream event on Vimeo. Maté is a world-renowned speaker and self-help expert specializing in trauma, addiction, and stress, as well as the author of The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture. During their talk, the pair will discuss the difficulties of living with loss, as well as the importance of personal healing before going on to take pre-submitted questions from the audience.

Harry’s memoir has caused much controversy since its release at the beginning of last month, particularly amongst his own family, leading to questions of whether or not the Duke and his wife Meghan Markle will attend his father King Charles‘s coronation in May. But even though there’s been fallout from the publication, Harry told People in January that it was incredibly important to him to share his life story. “My hope has been to turn my pain into purpose, so if sharing my experience makes a positive difference in someone’s life, well, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that,” he said. “This book and its truths are in many ways a continuation of my own mental health journey. It’s a raw account of my life—the good, the bad and everything in between.”

He went on to explain that since stepping down as a senior royal in January 2020 and moving his family to California, he’s found an all-new purpose in life. “A husband and a father–first and foremost–as well as a veteran, environmentalist, and mental health advocate,” he said. “I know that I want to live my life in service of others and that I want to live by example for my kids.” And when it comes to what’s in store for their future, he revealed, “I’m looking ahead and am optimistic for what’s to come. I have a beautiful and blessed life—one that comes with a platform, and with it responsibility that Meghan and I plan to use wisely. I feel I am exactly where I am meant to be and exactly where we [my family] are meant to be. I don’t think I could have written this book otherwise.”

  • Queen Consort Camilla Was Reportedly “Shocked and Dismayed” About the New Roald Dahl Editions

Queen Consort Camilla Was Reportedly “Shocked and Dismayed” About the New Roald Dahl Editions

    [ad_1]

On February 17, The Telegraph ran a splashy exposé documenting the edits and redactions that went into a new edition of the late author Roald Dahl’s books for children. Their articles pointed out that descriptions of characters as “fat” were removed, for example, citing a rhyme in James and the Giant Peach where a character, at first called “terrifically fat,” was instead described as a “nasty old brute.” Though Dahl’s works are not universally beloved, they remain a nostalgic favorite for adults, and that sentiment, along with the implication that the new editions were a form of censorship, inspired an impassioned discourse. On Thursday, Queen Consort Camilla might have entered the fray when she made comments about censorship and the value of imagination during an event.

During a speech at a rescheduled reception celebrating the two-year anniversary of her book club, she implored her audience to value freedom of expression and seemingly referenced the end of Dahl’s The Witches, where the protagonist is transformed into a mouse. “Please remain true to your calling, unimpeded by those who may wish to curb the freedom of your expression or impose limits on your imagination,” she said. “Enough said! Let there be no squeaking like mice about your achievements, but only roaring, like a pride of lions.”

According to the Independent, a source close to Camilla said she was “shocked and dismayed” to hear that Dahl’s books had been altered and thought that the freedom of writers needed to be preserved.

On Friday, Dahl’s British publisher announced that they would continue selling previous editions of the books alongside the newly edited ones. Puffin, a children’s imprint, will sell the new editions, while its parent company Penguin Random House will offer 17 of Dahl’s books in The Roald Dahl Classic Collection. “We’ve listened to the debate over the past week which has reaffirmed the extraordinary power of Roald Dahl’s books and the very real questions around how stories from another era can be kept relevant for each new generation,” said Francesca Dow, Penguin Random House Children’s managing director. “By making both Puffin and Penguin versions available, we are offering readers the choice to decide how they experience Roald Dahl’s magical, marvellous stories.”

The Thursday event was the queen consort’s first public appearance after she tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month. She mentioned her illness during her speech at the event. “Your Majesty, ladies and gentlemen, it is a huge pleasure to welcome you all—writers, publishers and book lovers—to Clarence House. A week late, but COVID-free!” she said. “So thank you for rejigging your busy diaries and coming today.”

Lady Amelia Windsor Is Royally Refreshing

What she does know, however, is that the next big plan involves getting her hands dirty. “What I’m reading about at the moment is gardening. I absolutely love it. I don’t do it enough myself—I have done some volunteer gardening, but I’m a fraud of a gardener because I don’t do it enough. I just love reading about it and try to do it as much as I can,” she says.

Slightly surprised by her admission, I wonder, why gardening? “It makes you so happy. It’s so good for you,” Windsor says. “You are outside all the time. The soil gives you amazing bacteria, gives you serotonin. It’s a way to meet different people if you do volunteer gardening. I’ve met some of the nicest people, and if it’s done sustainably, it can be a great thing for the planet. So it’s a win-win situation.” In fact, it turns out that this grounding hobby is a metaphor for her own life. “It’s just so therapeutic and peaceful, and it’s also just a way of accepting that you just go with the seasons. If something doesn’t work in your garden, it’s like, ‘It’s all right. I’ll try again next time.’ And realizing it’s just a part of nature that things might not grow or something might eat them, you just go with it and just carry on. It teaches you to go with the flow,” she says.

I look out of my window at my dying plants, and I turn to Windsor as my new gardening guru—my millennial Alan Titchmarsh, if you will—and ask her if talking to the plants might resurrect them. “I actually do it with my houseplants a little bit,” she admits, letting me know they are called Geraldine and Esmerelda.

As our chat wraps up, our previous plan of a night out turns to Windsor volunteering to come over to help me with my plants. Always expect the unexpected from this lady.

  • Kate Middleton’s Latest Bag Shows Where She Stands on If Mini Bags Are “Over”

Kate Middleton’s Latest Bag Shows Where She Stands on If Mini Bags Are “Over”

    [ad_1]

Kate Middleton is the ultimate celebrity to look to if your style is classic. Her wardrobe epitomizes a polished, timeless aesthetic, and her chosen accessories only emphasize that. If you look through her outfits, you’ll find that more often than not, she’s carrying a tiny bag with them. In fact, this week, she paired a monochromatic navy outfit and camel coat with a top-handle mini bag that perfectly complemented her look.

So why is this significant now? Well, the general consensus in the fashion world is that the mini-bag trend is being replaced by the oversize-bag trend. (Katie Holmes and Zendaya are on board.) Mini bags have certainly been around for a minute, but I think it’s safe to say that they’re not disappearing anytime soon—especially ones that are big enough to fit your phone.

If you too are still on team mini bag, keep scrolling to shop some of the chicest, most timeless ones on the market. Kate Middleton would surely approve.

  • Princess Kate Celebrates Mardi Gras by Making Pancakes with Nursing Home Residents

Princess Kate Celebrates Mardi Gras by Making Pancakes with Nursing Home Residents

    [ad_1]

Princess Kate went from the height of glamour at the 2023 BAFTA Awards on Sunday to rolling up her sleeves and getting messy in the kitchen.

The Princess of Wales followed her appearance at the award show alongside her husband Prince William with a solo trip to the Oxford House Nursing Home in Slough in Berkshire, England on Tuesday. Once there, the royal met with both staff and residents to learn how the care center is prioritizing the needs of its patients. As it was Mardi Gras, also known as Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day in the UK, Kate also joined some of the nursing home residents in cooking up a stack. However, her pancake-flipping skills proved to be a little bit rusty as her first attempt got stuck to her frying pan and she had to use a spatula to scrape it off before she could flip it over. “I’m sorry,” the princess told her fellow chefs with a laugh in a video shared on Twitter by The Sun‘s Matt Wilkinson. “I haven’t done you justice,” she added.

While she may have struggled with her flip technique, the royal reassured Sheila, one of the residents there, that pancakes have become a signature part of her family’s holiday celebrations. “I either get pancakes stuck on the floor or on the ceiling, but the children are very well and we will be making our own pancakes this evening with the children,” she said, according to a tweet from Isabella Perrin from the Bucks Free Press. While Kate may have downplayed her prowess in the kitchen, in the past Prince William has raved that his wife is a “very good” cook. During a visit to the Together as One charity in January, the royal joined a cooking class teaching young people how to make easy, nutritious meals that won’t break their household budget. During the lesson, the royal was asked about his culinary expertise, to which he replied, “I do a bit of cooking, not much though. Catherine’s very good though.” However, he does have one speciality. “I do a mean steak,” he said, but, “My sauces come out quite dry or lumpy—I’ve got to work on those!”

The royal couple also previously revealed that they spent much of their time in quarantine doing some baking with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. During a stop at family-owned bakery Smiths The Bakers in King’s Lynn in June 2020, the Prince of Wales revealed, “The children have been attacking the kitchen and it’s just been an explosion of flour and chocolate everywhere.” And it’s not just his three children who were using all that time indoors to hone their skills. William admitted that he’s “done a little bit of baking” as well, and “Catherine’s been doing quite a bit of baking.” He concluded that with all the baked goods being consumed in their home, he was worried “about the waistline of the nation.”

  • Prince William And Kate Middleton Are All Smiles As They Attend The 2023 BAFTA Awards

Prince William And Kate Middleton Are All Smiles As They Attend The 2023 BAFTA Awards

    [ad_1]

    By Stacy Lambe, ETOnline.com.

On Sunday, Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the 76th annual BAFTA Awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, marking their first in-person appearance at the ceremony since 2020.

The Prince and Princess of Wales made quite the entrance on the red carpet, with William dressed to the nines in black velvet tuxedo, and Kate in a reworked Alexander McQueen one-shoulder gown and statement black opera gloves. She accessorized the look with large, statement making rose gold earrings and a small black clutch. Kate first wore the Grecian-style gown for the 2019 BAFTAs, with floral detailing on the shoulder.

The couple were all smiles on the carpet, walking side-by-side as they chatted and waved to onlookers before making their way into the awards show.

The last time the royal couple attended the British film awards was in 2020, prior to the pandemic and Prince Philip’s death, both of which prevented them from attending in the years since. During that year’s ceremony, the two spotted laughing at a joke about Prince Harry made by Best Supporting Actor winner Brad Pitt.

Although the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star was not there in person, he still made a memorable impact when his co-star Margot Robbie took the stage to accept his award and read a speech he had written.

“Hey, Britain, heard you just became single, welcome to the club,” she read aloud, before ending Pitt’s speech with a reference to Harry and Meghan Markle‘s exit from the royal family. “He says that he is going to name this Harry because he is really excited about bringing it back to the States with him.”

The camera then cut to William and Kate, who appeared to be tickled by the comment as Robbie exited the stage.

Earlier in the night, Rebel Wilson failed to get the same reaction after she made an awkward reference to both Harry and their disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew. “It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew… uh, Royal Harry, no, at this Royal Palace place,” she quipped while William and Kate remained neutral after being spotted on camera.

The 2023 BAFTAs, meanwhile, are being hosted by Richard E. Grant. Alison Hammond is interviewing the presenters and winners backstage at the BAFTA Studio. The ceremony is available to stream in the U.S. on BritBox.
