Not just once, but twice in a single week, Kendall Jenner has been spotted wearing outerwear with cape-like details. Last week, during a shopping trip in West Hollywood, she wore a leather jacket with an attachable scarf from Phoebe Philo, styled with white jeans, a boxy bag, and kitten heels. Just a few days later, Jenner wore a wrapped leather trench coat that debuted on the Bottega Veneta S/S 24 runway with sheer tights and pumps. Other fashion insiders and celebs, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, have been spotted wearing the silhouette—solidifying it as a key outerwear trend to know for 2024.
Over the last few years, we have seen the rise of blanket coats with built-in scarves from brands including Toteme and Tove. The more heavily-draped, cape-like versions endorsed by Bottega Veneta and Phoebe Philo are pushing the trend forward and we’re already expecting it to be the #1 coat trend in 2024. Ahead, see how celebs are wearing the cape outerwear trend and shop pieces inspired by them.
If you’re at all interested in fashion (which is expected given what you’re reading RN) and were anywhere near Instagram last week, I assume your feed was as inundated with pictures of Phoebe Philo’s debut collection—full of scarf coats, cow-hide tote bags, hand-combed trousers, and oversize eyewear—as mine was. After nearly six years of waiting, no one in the industry seemed able to control their excitement over the former Céline designer’s comeback.
Even with the extremely high price point of Philo’s first drop, most of it sold out in a matter of hours, pretty much guaranteeing that the brand’s first street-style sightings were imminent. Now, just over a week later, they’ve arrived, and no, they absolute did not disappoint. From Netherlands-based influencer Anouk Yve’s handbag styling to former Victoria’s Secret Angel turned quiet-luxury style maven Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s haul, the first glimpses of Phoebe Philo in the wild are yours for the taking below.
You’re a content creator praised for your elegant style and founder of the skincare line, Marie Louise Cosmetics. What was the inspiration behind the brand?
I launched it during my junior year of college at Howard as a pre-med student. I pivoted after its launch and came back to L.A. (where I’m from), to focus on the brand full time. This was during the boom between 2013 and 2015 when everyone on Youtube was doing DIY skincare, and I was completely obsessed with it!
I have really dry, eczema-prone skin, so I was making face masks and creams to try, and one of the girls on my dorm floor asked if I was selling it. The premise of the brand is reviving older beauty rituals of the past in new, fun, and fresh ways for Gen Z and young millennials. It’s taking all the things we loved about the beauty rituals the women of our family taught us and re-engineering those for the future.
Recently, there’s been an uptick in searches for the quiet luxury aesthetic among social media users (especially TikTok). What is your definition of the term and how, if at all, does it apply to your lifestyle?
I think it’s interesting because I was in no way intentionally trying to jump on the quiet luxury trend. My wedding just happened to be at a time that was really popular on social media! I think the wedding was grouped into people’s idea of what quiet luxury is, whether that’s their definition of what a luxury-driven wedding would look like compared to something else, or the style of dress. Certain beauty products and brands have definitely played a role in the aesthetic since people will select what they think pertain to it.
Right now, I like to think of it as valuing quality over quantity. It may not be the amount of something you show, but more highlighting or prioritizing one of something that is super special. My personal idea of luxury still goes back to quality. But anything can be luxurious. Having access to water bottles is luxurious for some, while going to the mall on a Monday and having a solo lunch can be luxurious to others. For me, something doesn’t have to be designer or expensive to be luxurious.
Goyard bags are prized in part for their exclusivity. And because they can only be purchased at certain places, they tend to be priced even higher when sold secondhand. So as far as an investment bag goes, it’s a pretty safe bet as long as you take care of it.
That said, determining the value of a bag is different for merchants and buyers. While the quality construction and materials used in Goyard bags are superb, it’s also important to consider other factors: How often will you wear the bag? Will the color work with the rest of your wardrobe? Does this particular style feel timeless to you?
Also, higher-end bags that tend to be custom creations can also be of different value to the buyer and seller, particularly on the secondhand market. Does the bag have personal details that are meaningful, such as a monogram, or other embellishments? Rare bags that are unique but not overly personalized tend to carry the highest value in the resale market but may be priceless to their owners.
So while we say yes, it is worthwhile to buy a Goyard bag, ultimately, the decision is a personal one that must factor in material, design, price, color, and utility. Hopefully, any bag purchased will be enjoyed and admired no matter the final cost.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez are among the celebrity fans of maxi dresses and skirts, and now you can add Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to the list. In a mirror selfie on Instagram, she showed off her pitch-perfect outfit consisting of a top and skirt by The Row, a bracelet by Tiffany & Co., and a belt by Déhanche to tie it all together.
Not many of us have a shopping budget that allows for The Row purchases, but that’s okay. After some aggressive online searching, I found the perfect alternative to her trendy full-length skirt: Mango’s Slit Long Skirt ($70). Not only is the price tag appealing, but the sleek, minimalist silhouette is calling my name. Scroll down to re-create Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s newest outfit.
Not too long ago, there was a time when your brows needed to be filled in, perfectly arched, and blocky to prove you were up to date on the latest eyebrow trends. Bold brows were everywhere, with multi-step brow routines inspiring a boom in the creation of brow pomades, gels, pencils, and powders.
However, in recent years, makeup trends have evolved toward a more natural-looking approach. Eyebrow trends have followed suit, with fluffy, brushed-up (verging on unruly) brows dominating both the catwalks and our Instagram feeds. “I’ve definitely been using less in my brows, and I know my clients have too,” says makeup artist and brow specialist Lucy Hart. “Brows are definitely a lot softer compared to previous years, and I think for 2023, fluffy, natural brows are here to stay.”
Some pieces are just so good they’re worth the splurge. And while this off-the-shoulder Khaite top favored by both Meghan Markle and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is undoubtedly one of them, we’re not trying to spend our entire spring shopping budget on just one piece.
Fortunately, for those of us that have a duchess-level taste on a commoner’s budget, there’s always Reformation. The brand’s Ezlynn Knit Top evokes similar vibes to the Khaite design, including a lightweight jersey fabric and a beautiful portrait neckline. Plus, it comes in white, black, and gray-blue, so you could buy all three for less than the cost of the original design… just saying.
Ahead, compare the $890 Khaite top with the $78 dupe, plus seven more cute tops under $100 from Reformation available now. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with these spring-friendly finds.
Supermodel, style icon, mom, founder of clean, sustainable beauty brand Rose Inc—Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is about as busy as one can be. And while she could no doubt create a dramatic, runway-worthy makeup look in minutes, it makes sense that her regular aesthetic is more laid-back (but just as gorgeous).
“I would describe my everyday eye-makeup look as effortless and effective,” says Huntington-Whiteley. “To achieve it, I use Rose Inc Satin & Shimmer Duet Eyeshadow, a pair of pigment-rich eyeshadows—one cream, one pressed—that visibly smooth the skin while delivering multidimensional looks.”
And what’s an eye-makeup look without mascara? “Then I use the Rose Inc Ultra-Black Lash Lift Serum Mascara.” Like all products in the line, the innovative formula features proprietary, bioengineered botanical ingredients like a plant-based version of squalane. Huntington-Whiteley describes it as “a rich, glossy mascara that lengthens, lifts, and fortifies lashes.”
If you’re wondering if you have to actually be Huntington-Whiteley for your makeup to look as good as hers, the answer is—thankfully—no, because she’s spilling all her best tricks.
Use the right tools.
Huntington-Whiteley stresses that her biggest eye-makeup trick is using the correct tools for the job. “I always have a few small brushes on hand that allow me to be precise along the lash line and get into the crease of my eye with ease.” She starts with the Rose Inc Number 7 Fan Eyeshadow Brush. “It has a small, flexible shape that forms to the upper eyelid,” Huntington-Whiteley explains, adding that the unique shape helps effectively “sweep shimmer shadow over the lids” for the finishing touch. The Number 8 Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Brush is another go-to, thanks to its densely packed bristles that work with all shadow textures.
For lashes, there’s her not-so-secret weapon: “Of course, an eyelash curler makes all the difference when doing any makeup look.” If you’ve had issues with eyelash curlers in the past, fear not, because Huntington-Whiteley says the Rose Inc Eyelash Curler allows for added control: “Its thoughtfully designed curve adapts to every eye shape, targeting even hard-to-reach lashes with one squeeze.”
Focus on the two Ls—lighting and layers.
Like the supermodel she is, Huntington-Whiteley knows how to find her light. “Good lighting is the key to an effective eye-makeup application,” she says. (Natural lighting is always, always, always best!) She also notes that doing your makeup in layers makes a difference to the final look. “Stepping back between layers is crucial so you don’t lose perspective on what you’re doing—it’s easier to add more than to remove product!” she says.
Pay special attention to the lashes.
Swipe on a little mascara and call it a day? Not for Huntington-Whiteley. Post-curling, she has a special method of applying the Ultra-Black Lash Lift Serum Mascara: “Starting with the shorter side of the brush, I like to load up the root of my lashes before flipping the wand over to the longer, curved side to lengthen and pop the lashes up,” she says. And then there’s that all-important mascara wand itself: “I love how the curved dual bristle delivers a clean, defined finish and a natural curl that lasts.”

It’s not Haute Couture Fashion Week without a Valentino show. And it’s not a Valentino show without an absolutely stacked front row.
The house hosted its Spring 2023 haute couture debut below Paris’ iconic Pont Alexandre III along the Seine on Jan. 25. While gigantic ribbon bows, delicate feathers and sequins galore turned the runway into a sight worth waiting for, the A-listers made the presentation that much better.
Anne Hathaway arrived in a mini leopard-printed dress with matching tights, while Charli XCX wore a cropped black top with high-waisted trousers. Dove Cameron stunned in an elegant red ensemble, as Beatrice Gannò of “The White Lotus” repped the brand in an all-over logo print. BTS’ Suga made his first-ever appearance at a Valentino show as a brand ambassador in a monochromatic brown suit over a creamy camel blouse from the Unboxing Valentino collection. Doja Cat turned up the glam, of course, in an oversized rosette blazer — her third stop of the day, after appearances at Viktor & Rolf and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

Leave it to celebs to be fashion’s earliest adopters. Sure, we may still only be at the crack of 2023 but our favorite A-listers are already testing out one of next season’s most notable emerging trends: over-the-knee boots. Now, knee boots have reigned supreme for several seasons but based on our evidence, spring 2023 is when our staple boots will start creeping ever higher over the knee.
They’ve been making a big impact on recent runways, too, cameoing at Diesel, Fendi, Jil Sander, and Bottega Veneta, just to name a few and while our initial reaction was one of hesitation since OTK boots are notoriously tricky to style, we’re positive that they’ll become the biggest boot trend of spring 2023 after seeing how celebs are wearing them.
From Rihanna to Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa to Margot Robbie, the sheer number of celebrity outfits we’ve spotted with over-the-knee boots have us questioning whether they’ll replace our knee boots for good. All the proof your need is up ahead.
