BBC makes big change to show – one year after Michael Mosley’s death

Over a year on from Dr Michael Mosley’s tragic death aged 67, the BBC have announced it will be bringing back one of his popular TV programmes. The organisation has confirmed that rather than replacing Dr Michael with a sole presenter, three separate names will be hosting Just One Thing.

The series, which started as a podcast, focuses on Dr Michael’s theory that altering a single part of your life can have a huge impact on your health and wellbeing, from ingesting more beetroot to getting more sunshine. Only two episodes of the show were recorded before Michael who was found dead in June last year in a rocky area of Agia Marina.

The stars who will be hosting the programme are BBC Radio 1 Breakfast host Zoe Ball, Mastermind star Clive Myrie, and The One Show’s Roman Kemp. Each presenter will lead four episodes, and the show will see them travel to a different part of the UK to test ideas with individuals and communities. They will test out evidence-based advice, such as laughing to boost brain health and gardening to help your gut.

Lindsay Bradbury, commissioner for BBC Daytime, told The Sun: “This new series of Just One Thing builds on the legacy of the brilliance of Michael. It will offer very surprising takeaway tips on how we can try and improve our lives with minimum input for maximum rewards.”

A heartbreaking loss

One year on from his death, Dr Michael’s family described the past year as “the hardest of our lives.”

“It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since we lost Michael,” his widow Clare wrote on Instagram. “Not a day goes by without thinking of him – his warmth, his laughter, his endless curiosity about the world, and his deep love for our family.

This past year has been the hardest of our lives. Navigating the loss of someone so central to our hearts and our home has changed everything. We have missed him in the big moments and the small ones. But we have also felt incredibly supported.”

She added that the “outpouring of love, stories and memories from so many of you” online had “meant more than we can ever say. We have taken real comfort in knowing just how many lives Michael touched – not only through his work, but through his kindness, humour, and deep desire to help people live well for longer.”

Dr Michael’s legacy

Despite his passing, Michael’s family have been passionate about continuing Dr Michael’s legacy. In May, they announced a new Michael Mosley Memorial Research Fund, to help to appoint a dedicated research scientist to help improve the metabolic health of the nation.

A clinical research fellowship will be established to honour his memory in partnership with King’s College London and the Chronic Disease Research Foundation.

The family statement continued: “We are trying, as a family to look forward. To carry on the work Michael was so passionate about. To live with purpose and joy, as he would have wanted us to.”

In their one-year anniversary message, Mrs Mosley and her family thanked “everyone who has reached out, shared their grief, and carried us with their compassion.” They noted: “Your messages, letters and acts of remembrance have helped us through the darkest days.”

Roman Kemp reveals secret battle with heartbreaking health condition: ‘I don’t want to live like that’

Roman Kemp has spoken candidly about the long-lasting emotional toll of his early modelling career, revealing how it left him struggling with body dysmorphia and deep insecurities that still affect him to this day.

Before making a name for himself on Capital FM and The One Show, Roman headlined campaigns for Topman and ASOS. But the modelling world took a serious toll.

Roman Kemp opens up about struggle with body dysmorphia

“When I was 19, I was the massive billboard on Topman at Oxford Circus. But it was horrendous, Absolutely awful,” the 32 year old revealed on his You About? podcast. “It is genuinely the most soul-crushing thing you’ve ever done.”

Roman described humiliating casting calls where models were made to strip in front of emotionless panels.

“You’d walk into these rooms with a piece of card the size of a birthday card. It would have your picture and measurements. You’ve got a group of fashionistas who do not acknowledge you. They barely even look at you. Then the person running it would go: ‘Take your top off.’ You’re just stood there in your boxers while they pass your card around.”

He said the lowest moment came when you’d wait to see if they’d “keep your card”.

Roman admitted that even now, years after leaving the industry, those experiences haunt him. He still avoids mirrors and can’t watch himself on TV.

“I can’t look at a picture of myself if it’s on the day. It will upset me for the rest of the day.”

He added: “Even with The One Show, they’ll throw to a video tape of me. Everyone will go: ‘You should watch it.’ I have to avoid the screen. I cannot look at it because it will put me off. I’ll be judging everything. It won’t be about what I’m actually doing, it’ll be about how I look. I don’t want to live like that.”

He also described how he actively avoids looking at his body in shop changing rooms.

‘The pressure is horrendous’

The Capital FM host now recognises he’s been living with undiagnosed body dysmorphia.

“I guess maybe I do have… that type of body dysmorphia, but I do everything I can to avoid it.”

According to the NHS, body dysmorphia is a mental health condition where someone becomes obsessed with perceived flaws in their appearance, even if these flaws are invisible to others.

Roman added: “Weight in our our world is a massive [problem]. I feel horrendous for the pressure that they put on us, especially women.”

The presenter has long been open about his mental health. In November, he revealed he had stopped taking anti-depressants for the first time in 17 years.

“It’s been four months since I stopped taking anti-depressants,” he wrote on social media. “Something I’ve taken since I was 15 years old.”

He added that he was learning to navigate emotions without medication.

“I’m still learning why I suddenly want to cry more and may get snappier at my friends. But I’m excited to understand what the emotional side of me is really like.”

Since the death of his best friend and radio producer Joe Lyons, Roman has campaigned for mental health awareness.

Through sharing his personal battles, he continues to break the silence around male body image and mental health.

Martin Kemp steps into the ring with son Roman for epic battle: ‘He put up a good fight’

Father and son duo Martin and Roman Kemp have gone head-to-head in a battle of skill.

In a duel not seen since the likes of Rocky versus Apollo (sort of), the pair faced off in a show of gaming prowess peppered with smack-talk as they took to the ring for a fierce competition.

Thankfully, no physical blows were exchanged. Instead Martin, 62, and son Roman, 31, got down to business in an intense competition to become the OREO x PAC-MAN Playoff Champion.

OREO and PAC-MAN have come together in an unlikely but iconic cookie and gaming collaboration to offer fans a chance at winning once-in-a-lifetime prizes. That’s if they can beat the duo’s top scores.

There was no way I was going to take it lying down.

“Whilst Dad was around in the 1980s for the original PAC-MAN, I definitely brought my A game. I’m happy with my score,” Roman said.

While his dad Martin added: “I loved playing PAC-MAN in the 80s, that’s nearly 40 years of this game in my life. There was no way I was going to take it lying down. Even if he has had video games his whole life. He put up a good fight. But we can’t have these young ‘uns beating us in the game of our generation.”

All the stars who could take over on Tipping Point as Ben Shephard joins This Morning

Tipping Point star Ben Shephard has been confirmed as the new host of This Morning and will be joining the show full-time next month.

However, this has left question marks over his future on Tipping Point, which he has hosted since it launched in 2012.

Who could host Tipping Point if Ben Shephard leaves?

Whilst Ben or ITV haven’t said that he’s leaving the hit gameshow, his exit from GMB will spark questions over whether he’ll leave Tipping Point too.

ED! has contacted Ben’s reps, as well as ITV for confirmation over the 49-year-old’s future on the show.

If he were to leave, here are some stars who we believe could take over…

Roman Kemp

Roman recently announced he’d be leaving his role at Capital Radio after almost a decade at the station.

He confirmed the news in a statement earlier this week. “This is going to be my last few weeks on Capital. Having spent nearly 10 years with this company it’s not a decision that just happened overnight. And it’s not one that I’ve found easy at all,” he said in a statement.

“Capital is my family. You as the wonderful listener have been there for me at my best, and you’ve been there at my absolute lowest to pull me back to happiness,” he then said.

“Capital and Global Radio helped make me the man I am, it is all I know. But I know it’s now time for me to leave.”

Jordan North will be replacing him. With The One Show host Roman’s schedule freeing up a bit now he’s left, could he become the new host of Tipping Point?

At one point it seemed as though Josie was pretty much nailed on to be the new permanent presenter of This Morning.

However, this eventually didn’t come to pass, with Cat Deeley bagging the role instead.

But, Josie still remains a fan favourite and a continued hit with viewers, as proven by her impressive stint on I’m A Celebrity.

It’s about time Josie fronted her own show – the Tipping Point job is practically screaming for her.

Could the 39-year-old take over from Ben should he leave? Viewers would tune in in their droves, that’s for sure.

Another fan favourite, Craig‘s stardom has exploded over the last few months, thanks to his frequent hosting stints of This Morning.

Some fans were gutted that he didn’t land the gig full-time, with many hoping he and Josie would host full-time together.

What better way for ITV to curb fans’ dissapointment by appointing him as the new host of Tipping Point?

Who could replace Ben Shephard on Tipping Point? – Olly Murs

Olly was a judge on The Voice for five years between 2018 and 2023. However, last year it was confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning to the show this year.

It has since been revealed that LeAnn Rimes and Tom Fletcher will be joining the show following his exit.

“I’m gutted. I got the call last week to say I won’t be back on the show, and it’s a bit of a shock, to be honest. I didn’t really expect that to come. But I don’t want to sit here like other artists might, and shine and gloss this up and say, ‘It was my decision’. I don’t want to do that,” he told The Sun at the time.

If the Tipping Point job does come free, could we see Olly land himself another TV gig by replacing Ben?

Another fan favourite, Dermot O’Leary could be a popular option to take over as Tipping Point host.

The This Morning star will continue to host the show on Friday’s alongside Alison Hammond.

That leaves some time in his schedule to potentially take over as host of Tipping Point!

Sam Thompson to replace Ben Shephard on Tipping Point?

I’m A Celebrity champion Sam Thompson gained a whole new fanbase from winning the hit ITV show last year.

Since winning, he’s hosted some segments on This Morning, and has even appeared on the Loose Women panel.

The star has made no secret over the fact that he wants to work in TV, so could he land the Tipping Point gig if Ben leaves?
