    Vaya Space, the vortex-hybrid engine rocket company and emerging leader in sustainable space access, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded two patents to the Company on its breakthrough vortex-hybrid propulsion technology. 

    Privately held Vaya Space, with operations in both the U.S. and Brazil, has recently emerged as one of the leaders in the space industry and small satellite launch sector. The Company took a technology-first and different approach than many of its well-funded competitors, and as such has recently gained credibility from numerous industry leaders through recent agreements with NASA and major satellite customers that have selected Vaya Space as their launch provider for their constellations.   

    The Company’s first patent was awarded for its unique production process of its 3D-printed fuel grain that enables higher performance through uniform burn throughout the entirety of the engine. The second patent protects Vaya’s vortex flow field injection system design. The vortex flow of liquid oxygen through the 3D lathe printed rocket engine combines with Vaya’s other technologies to deliver more than 110 kN of thrust per engine, up to 350 seconds of ISP, and eliminates the instability and other issues that have plagued hybrid engines of the past decades.

    Vaya’s rocket engines are produced using more than 20 metric tons of recycled thermoplastics and deliver industry-leading payload performance at a substantially lower cost than competitors. Vaya’s engines have zero TNT explosive equivalency and utilize materials that are non-toxic, non-hazardous, and require no special handling, storage or transportation. Vaya’s rocket engines use substantially fewer components resulting in improved reliability, are far less costly to produce, and operate with substantially lower emissions.

    a.i. solutions® has been named the Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the Agency’s 2021 Small Business Industry Awards (SBIA) program. 

    This award recognizes the high quality of the company’s ongoing work at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), where a.i. solutions’ engineers and technicians provide support to NASA’s Launch Services Program (LSP). It is one of four awards given annually in contractor categories among companies nominated by each of NASA’s individual flight centers and research labs. The other three Agency award categories are Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year, Small Business Subcontractor of the Year, and Mentor-Protégé Agreement of the Year. The award marks the second receipt of the accolade for a.i. solutions, who had previously been a recipient of the award in 2018, as well as a recipient of the 2018 NASA KSC Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year, and in recent history, was the recipient of the 2014 NASA Agency Small Business Prime Contractor Award for its work at NASA KSC and the 2010 NASA Agency Small Business Prime Contractor Award for its work at Goddard Space Flight Center.

    Zero 2 Infinity, a company specialized in Space transportation systems, successfully launched its first rocket from the Edge of Space on March 1st.

    Part of the Zero 2 Infinity team sailed a few miles off the Spanish coast to launch the balloon carrying the rocket. After soaring to 25 km (more than twice the cruising altitude of commercial airplanes), the other part of the launch team gave the order of the controlled ignition of the first Bloostar prototype from the facilities of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) in El Arenosillo (Huelva, Spain).

    The goals of the mission were: (i) validation of the telemetry systems in Space conditions, (ii) controlled ignition, (iii) stabilization of the rocket, (iv) monitoring of the launch sequence, (v) parachute deployment, and finally, (vi) sea recovery. All these goals were achieved in full.

    This mission is part of the development of Bloostar, the first small satellite launcher to use a stratospheric balloon as a first stage. By initiating the rocket ignition from above  airspace, the targeted orbit can be reached with expediency and efficiency.

    This patented technique is less risky than any systems used until now. The rocket-powered phase starts already from above 95% of the mass of the atmosphere, getting there with no polluting emissions. Besides the environmental angle, this new method lets Zero 2 Infinity launch satellites with more flexibility (2 weeks notice), at a drastically lower cost and more often than ever before.

    From the day it was presented, Bloostar has attracted the attention of the leading satellite companies around the world. Zero 2 Infinity already has gathered upwards of 250 million euros in Letters of Intent for future launches.

    The Space sector has become more open to private initiatives and is nowadays living a revolution. From global communication services to meteorological predictions, interconnection of machines through the Internet of Things and even the possibility of having a daily picture of the entire Planet. These advances have paved the way for the creation of hundreds of companies that need efficient and safe transportation services like the ones Zero 2 Infinity is offering and developing.
