  • Robert Pattinson Remains the Funniest Person Alive | The Mary Sue

    You wouldn’t lie to Zendaya, right? Every interview with Robert Pattinson is weirder and more revealing than the last, and the actor’s recent discussion with his The Drama co-star for Interview Magazine definitely takes the cake… until, of course, the next one.

    This is the first interview that the two have done for the upcoming A24 film from director Kristoffer Borgli. Since it’s about the trials and tribulations of a newly engaged couple, it’s befitting that their first interview is with each other. At least, that’s what The Drama is about as far as we know. There’s been an ominous hush surrounding the dark twists and turns this film might take. In the Interview interview, however, Zendaya describes the film as “romantic dramedy?” News to me! I was not expecting to laugh.

    Maybe I should have, given Zendaya and Pattinson’s capacity for charm and humor. One of my favorite things about this interview, which you really should read in full, is how Zendaya wants us to know that Pattinson is being funny. Tone doesn’t always come as intended in print interviews. Nor does a dry humor, or humour since we’re specifically talking about the British variety here. Pattinson’s droll demeanor + accent is certainly part of how he’s been able to get away with straight-up lying in interviews before. (Fun fact: The Drama actually lets him use his natural accent, which is randomly rare.)

    There are so many gems in this new interview for The Drama

    “I went to therapy once and the therapist asked me if I was on drugs because they couldn’t understand what I was talking about,” Pattinson says in Interview after realizing that a rant he’d just completed, all about pushing against the perception that he was like Edward Cullen IRL after Twilight and his own fluctuating sense of identity, didn’t make sense. “I was like, ‘I’m trying my best.’”

    Thanks to Zendaya’s framing, this actually isn’t the zaniest Pattinson interview. She points out that it’s hard to tell when he’s being serious, and that she and Tom Holland have discussed his sense of humor. But it’s still very funny. He starts the interview by saying he’s caffeinated and “ready to jam,” which is so millennial cringe (says a cringe millennial herself). But don’t tell him that. He self-labels as Gen Z, after all. He laments his own inability to be mysterious. “I’ve learned again and again that if you just don’t speak,” he says, “people are like, ‘Wow. You’re really intimidating,’ but I just can’t fucking maintain it.”

    Pattinson complains a lot, actually. He also laments his ability to be as eloquent as an auteur director on a podcast. “I felt inspired by thinking that eloquence is a kind of classist act,” he argues. “I was like, there’s something honest about not being able to express yourself. It’s proletarian to not be able to say anything.” He claims that he can no longer knows anybody at parties. Pattinson says “I’m always knocking at the door like, ‘Hey, guys. Where the party at?’ And everyone just gets younger and younger.”

    At the end of the day, it really is hearting to see Pattinson, who along with the equally renegade Kristen Stewart was put on such a specific Hollywood heartthrob path following the Twilight saga, continue to defy and surprise us in so many ways. Heartening might not be the right word. Invigorating? Reassuring? The point is, he’s a weirdo! He’s funny! Pattinson has too much personality for a Teen Beat Q&A. He’s working with interesting directors and making movies that defy description.

    Zendaya, a former Disney kid, is effectively avoiding this path as well. It’s hard to glean a ton of information about the film from this interview. They definitely had a lot of fun prepping and making it. Pattinson actually wants to rewatch it. But what is the drama in The Drama? TBD! This hilarious back and forth honestly raises more questions than it answers. Even the photoshoot that accompanies the interview certainly has a psychosexual tone that the actors knew wouldn’t match their conversation as they were having it. “The theme was I don’t know,” Zendaya jokes.

  • Dune 3: Robert Pattinson Raves About ‘Absolutely Incredible’ Filming Experience

    Robert Pattinson recently teased his “incredible” experience filming Dune 3.

    Pattinson is one of the stars of Dune: Part Three, the final chapter in Denis Villeneuve‘s acclaimed sci-fi trilogy. Pattinson’s role remains under wraps. However, he is rumored to be playing Scytale, the film’s villain.

    While he remained silent on his role, Pattinson raved about the unique opportunity he experienced on the set of Dune 3.

    “You’ll never experience these things in any other profession,” Pattinson said to GQ. “I mean, literally, I was experiencing things which hardly anybody in history has or will ever experience, and it’s just absolutely incredible.”

    One of Pattinson’s co-stars is Zendaya, who returns to play Chani. Pattinson also worked with Zendaya on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama. While working on Zendaya, Pattinson recalled the moment when it finally kicked in that he was on a Dune set.

    “Being out in the desert shooting Dune, it’s weird,” Pattinson recalled. “I remember shooting a scene with Zendaya, the first scene we shot together out in the desert, I’m like, ‘Oh! We’re, like, in Dune!’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah . . . we’re doing a Dune movie.’ But it really was like, ‘It really feels like you’re in a Dune movie.’ It was really, really fun.”

    In Dune: Part Three, Timothée Chalamet reprises his role as Paul Atreides. The movie will jump ahead 15 to 20 years into the future from when we last saw Paul. Dune 3 also stars Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides.

    Villeneuve directs Dune: Part Three from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. The movie is based on Dune Messiah, a 1969 novel by Frank Herbert.

    Dune: Part Three is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.

  • 4 Twilight Movies Find New Streaming Home Today

    Four of the Twilight movies have found a new streaming home.

    Based on the popular book series by Stephanie Meyer, the Twilight Saga film franchise began in 2008. There are five films that are part of the series in total, including 2008’s Twilight, 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon, 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 2011’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, and 2012’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

    Where can four of the Twilight movies now be streamed?

    The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 have all found a new streaming home, as they’re now all available to stream on HBO Max.

    The first Twilight movie, meanwhile, is available to rent or purchase on digital streaming services such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and more.

    The series stars Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Billy Burke as Charlie Swan, Peter Facinelli as Carlisle Cullen, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme Cullen, Ashley Greene as Ashley Cullen, Kellan Lutz as Emmett Cullen, Nikki Reed as Rosalie Hale, and Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Hale.

    The Twilight movies were hugely popular, as they collectively grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide. The first movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, while Chris Weitz helmed New Moon. David Slade directed Eclipse, while Bill Condon then made Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Breaking Dawn Part 2. All five movies were distributed by Summit Entertainment.

    There’s been some talk about rebooting the Twilight franchise, with Lionsgate Television having announced that a TV show is in early development in 2023. There hasn’t been much news about the project since then, however, though it is worth noting that Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment recently released all five Twilight movies in theaters this past fall.

  • What to Stream: ‘Stranger Things,’ ‘Mickey 17,’ Kevin Hart and ‘A Grand Ole Opry Christmas’

    Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17,” a new batch of “Stranger Things’” final season and Kevin Hart debuting a new comedy special on Netflix are some of the new television, films, music and games headed to a device near you.

    Also among the streaming offerings worth your time this week, as selected by The Associated Press’ entertainment journalists: “Everybody Loves Raymond” gets a 30th anniversary special on CBS, the Hallmark’s special “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas” with Brad Paisley and Mickey Guyton, and a new Beatles documentary series hits Disney+.

    New movies to stream from Nov. 24-30

    —Taiwanese filmmaker Shih-Ching Tsou, known for collaborating with and producing several Sean Baker films including “Tangerine” and “The Florida Project,” makes her solo directorial debut with “Left-Handed Girl,” about a single mother and her two daughters who return to Taipei to open a stand at a night market. Netflix acquired the film after it was warmly received during the Cannes Film Festival and Taiwan has already selected the film as its Oscar submission. It begins streaming on Netflix on Nov. 28.

    —Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” arrives on Prime Video on Thursday, Nov. 26, for some dystopian holiday viewing. In her review for The Associated Press, Jocelyn Noveck praised Robert Pattinson’s performance (or, rather, performances) as an expendable who is constantly being reprinted anew. She writes, “It’s his movie, and he saves it from Bong’s tendencies to overstuff the proceedings. In an extremely physical, committed, even exhausting performance, Pattinson takes what could have been an unwieldy mess and makes it much less, well, expendable.”

    —OK, “The Last Duel,” streaming on Hulu on Sunday, Nov. 30 might be four years old but it’s a far better option than, say, “Flight Risk” (on HBO Max on Wednesday). Ridley Scott’s medieval tale, written by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Nicole Holofcener, is a brilliant spin on the historical epic told from three different perspectives, Damon’s Jean de Carrouges, Adam Driver’s Jacques Le Gris and Jodie Comer’s Marguerite. In his review for the AP, film writer Jake Coyle wrote that it “is more like a medieval tale deconstructed, piece by piece, until its heavily armored male characters and the genre’s mythologized nobility are unmasked.”

    New music to stream on Nov. 24-30

    — In 2021, over Thanksgiving, Disney+ released Peter Jackson’s six-hour “The Beatles: Get Back” to its streaming platform. The gargantuan project provided fans with a deep-dive into the band’s “Let It Be” sessions – including footage of their entire rooftop concert, shared in full for the first time. It was an ideal release date, to say the least. After all that delicious food, who doesn’t want to settle in for a lengthy journey into one of the greatest musical acts of all time? Well, in 2025, there’s yet another reason to be grateful: Starting Wednesday, “The Beatles Anthology” documentary series hits Disney+. That’s nine episodes tracing their journey. Lock in.

    — ’Tis the season for Hallmark holiday films. And for the country music fanatic, that means “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas.” The film follows a woman forced to confront her musical past and heritage in the esteemed venue – and there may or may not be some time travel and Christmas magic involved. Stay tuned for the all-star cameos: Brad Paisley, Megan Moroney, Mickey Guyton, Rhett Akins, Tigirlily Gold and more make an appearance. It starts streaming on Hallmark+ Sunday.

    New series to stream from Nov. 24-30

    — It’s hard to believe that “Everybody Loves Raymond” has been off the air for two decades. The multicamera sitcom starred Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton as Ray and Debra Barone, a young married couple whose daily lives are interrupted regularly by Ray’s meddling parents, played by Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who live across the street. CBS recently taped a 30th anniversary special to air Monday which will also stream on Paramount+. Hosted by Romano and creator, Phil Rosenthal, it recreates the set of the Barone living room and features interviews with cast members including Romano, Heaton, Brad Garrett and Monica Horan. There will also be a tribute to Boyle and Roberts who died in 2006 and 2016, respectively. It’s fitting for the special to come out around the holidays because its Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes were top-notch. All nine seasons stream on both Paramount+ and Peacock.

    — ” Stranger Things” is finally back with its fifth and final season. Netflix is releasing the sci-fi series in three parts and the first four episodes drop Wednesday. Millie Bobby Brown says fans will “lose their damn minds” with how it ends.

    — Also Monday, Kevin Hart debuts a new comedy special on Netflix. It’s called “Kevin Hart: Acting My Age.” The jokes center around, you guessed it, aging.

    — A new “Family Guy” special on Hulu pokes fun at those holiday movies we all know, love and watch. It’s called “Disney’s Hulu’s Family Guy’s Hallmark Channel’s Lifetime’s Familiar Holiday Movie” and pokes fun at the commonly-used trope of a big city gal who ends up in a small town at Christmas and falls in love. It drops Friday, Nov. 28 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

    New video games to play from Nov. 24-30

    — Artificial intelligence: friend to all humanity or existential threat to the planet? In A.I.L.A, Brazilian studio Pulsatrix leans toward the latter. You play as a game tester who’s asked to try out an AI-created horror story. But while you’re busy fighting off ghosts, zombies and ax murderers, the AI may be up to something more nefarious in the background — which could be bad news if you own a smart refrigerator. It all has the potential to be very meta, whether or not you welcome our new robot overlords. It arrives Tuesday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S and PC.

  • Jennifer Lawrence Doesn’t Judge Robert Pattinson for Having Zero Oscars, Really

    JLaw and R.Pat are one delightful duo. Die, My Love stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson recently participated in an especially entertaining edition of Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, where they chatted about rapping, former roommates, reality television, and having (or not having) Oscars.

    Those who have been paying attention should have seen this coming: Lawrence told Las Culturistas hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers that she specifically wanted to do a Lie Detector Test with Pattinson. When Lawrence’s wish was granted, she made Pattinson strap in for the polygraph first. Pattinson, who has a known history of telling tall tales during interviews, was visibly nervous before Lawrence began grilling him. Her first one for Pattinson: “You once said you wanted to be a rapper named Big Tub. Do you want to be Big Tub instead of being an actor?” Ultimately, Pattinson agreed it was too late to pursue his rapping dream—and acknowledged that he hadn’t yet chatted with fellow rapper turned actor Timothée Chalamet about his musical aspirations.

    Lawrence later asked Pattinson if he’s jealous that she has an Oscar and he does not. “I’m not jealous of your specific one. I’m glad you have one,” he said after careful consideration. “I wouldn’t want to take it off you and have it for myself.” So diplomatic. Further into the questioning, Pattinson joked that he would return for another Twilight film because he likes taking roles from younger actors—and maintained that he is a member of Gen Z. When Lawrence called him out—Pattinson is, in fact, a 39-year-old millennial—Pattinson dug his heels in further. You’re only as old as you feel.

    Soon, it was Lawrence’s turn in the hot seat. She, too, was nervous: “I guess I never realized how much I lie in interviews,” Lawrence said. She was apparently truthful while saying that she still believes everyone hates her—“I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t”—and when calling Emma Stone her best friend. (No wonder the two are reportedly producing a Miss Piggy movie together.) Lawrence also admitted she’s jealous of Stone for having two Oscars, while Lawrence only has one—which doesn’t mean Lawrence judges Pattinson for having none. “You deserve many,” she added.

    An avid reality television watcher, Lawrence admitted that she has fallen off on The Kardashians, but that didn’t stop her from having strong opinions about the family anyway. After revealing that her favorite is Khloé Kardashian, Lawrence laid in a bit on Kourtney: “Kourtney is more annoying than ever,” she said. “She drives me nuts. Everything has to be an announcement. ‘I’m not going to wear outfits anymore.’ Just wear whatever you want. Don’t make an announcement about it. Or like, ‘I don’t have a TV in my room.’ Just don’t watch TV. Stop announcing it. Just shh.”

    It seems like Lawrence got away with at least one lie during the test, when Pattinson asked her if she thought The Hunger Games was cooler than Twilight. “No,” she said convincingly, prompting the analyst to confirm that she was being truthful. “Breaking news: This machine is broken,” Lawrence then said. It’s true: Katniss Everdeen could take Edward Cullen any day of the week.

  • Why Robert Pattinson Says He Found Desert Heat “Relaxing” While Filming ‘Dune: Messiah’

    While some may find the intense desert heat grueling, Robert Pattinson actually found it “relaxing.”

    During a recent interview for IndieWire, alongside his Die My Love co-star Jennifer Lawrence, the actor shared his experience shooting Denis Villeneuve‘s upcoming Dune: Messiah.

    “When I was doing Dune it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything,” he recalled. “And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: ‘Whatever you want!’

    While details surrounding Pattinson’s character in the third installment of the sci-fi franchise have been kept under wraps, sources previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the Twilight alum would likely be playing the chief villain in the film.

    Pattinson isn’t the first Dune star to open up about filming in the desert elements. Zendaya, who plays Chani, previously told W Magazine that she got heatstroke while filming Dune: Part Two in Jordan because she wasn’t drinking enough water.

    “It was very hot, and I remember thinking, ‘Oh, man, the bathrooms are so far away,’ because we had to hike to the locations,” she recalled. “If you have to pee, you need at least 10 minutes to get out of the costumes. I was like, Damn, I don’t want to drink too much water. I had such a fear of peeing myself or shitting myself, honestly, in the suit on set.”

    Zendaya continued, “One day, I didn’t drink enough and I had a heatstroke. I felt so barfy. I remember calling my mom on the bathroom floor, saying, ‘I feel terrible.’ She was like, ‘Did you drink water today?’ I said no. I thought I was being smart, but you can’t do that. So, lesson learned.”

    Austin Butler, who portrayed villain Feyd-Rautha in the second installment, also previously shared his experience working in what he described as an “uncomfortable environment.”

    “It was 110 degrees and so hot,” he explained to Entertainment Weekly. “I had the bald cap on, and it was between two soundstages that were just these gray boxes of 200-foot walls and sand. It became like a microwave. There were people passing out from heatstroke. And that was just my first week.”

    Dune: Messiah is set to be released on Dec. 18, 2026. Returning castmembers include Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson and Anya Taylor-Joy.

  • Lynne Ramsay Recalls Meeting “Totally Terrifying” Joaquin Phoenix: “I’ve Never Worked With Such an Exciting Actor in My Life”

    Die, My Love director Lynne Ramsay was hosted by the BFI London Film Festival on Saturday and reflected on filming with A-list stars Joaquin Phoenix, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.

    The Scot’s latest feature — following Lawrence as Grace, a new mother who finds herself spiraling into the depths of psychosis — had its U.K. premiere Friday night at London’s Royal Festival Hall, with Ramsay going into more depth about the filming process at a Saturday Screen Talks session with fellow industry execs and creatives.

    Known for her movies Ratcatcher (1999), Morvern Callar (2002) and We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), Ramsay discussed getting to know Hollywood heavy-hitters and recalled meeting Phoenix, star of her 2017 neo-noir psychological thriller You Were Never Really Here. The film follows Phoenix as a traumatized mercenary named Joe, who is hired by a politician to rescue his kidnapped daughter in New York.

    “He’s amazing,” began Ramsay, “I mean, he’s totally terrifying. He’s a beast, you know? When I first met him, I was like — oh, my God, I think I said something really stupid like, ‘Are you left-handed or are you right-handed?’”

    She went on to explain the lengths that Phoenix, an Oscar winner for his performance in Joker, would often go to on set. “He would just never do the same thing twice, he’d just surprise you,” she continued, remembering one unscripted take where Phoenix purposely fell down some stairs. “Everyone’s running, going, ‘What’s happened to Joaquin?!’” said Ramsay. “He just thought, ‘I’ll try this and see if it works.’ […] Honestly, I’ve never worked with such an exciting actor in my life,” she added. “He’s phenomenal and he wants to just get on with it — he’s not into all the paraphernalia and these bullshit things… I feel bad for telling you that story because he’ll kill me!” When filming wrapped, Phoenix suggested they take the same crew and make another film straight away.

    Ramsay delighted the BFI LFF audience with a couple of anecdotes about You Were Never Really Here, including one on a French financier who was desperate for it to go to Cannes. “He was obsessed with Cannes,” recalled the celebrated filmmaker. “He wanted to see a cut every week… [I said], ‘You can wait until you get the director’s cut. But he persuaded me into it. And then [he said], ‘This is shit, this is shit’ for the rest of the edit, which was actually so soul-destroying.”

    When the movie finally nabbed a spot on the 2017 Cannes lineup, there were still scenes to shoot and Ramsay was left with a week to get the film ready. It later won best actor for Phoenix and best screenplay at the prestigious festival, but it was “the nuttiest film I had ever been on,” according to its director.

    When asked about bringing music into her films, Ramsay admitted it was only after working with Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood on You Were Never Really Here that she had enjoyed hiring composers. “I never used music unless it was in the scene. And then the more and more I worked on features, and especially after I worked with Jonny Greenwood, whose work really enhanced my film, I changed my mind,” she said. “Because I feel that music can tell you so much about character.” She added that receiving files from Greenwood, who recently composed the score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s buzzy thriller One Battle After Another, was like “getting a Christmas present… I was just blown away by the music.”

    Towards the end of the session, Ramsay was nervous to reveal too much about her latest film with Lawrence and Pattinson. “Jennifer Lawrence was just in a permanently bonkers situation,” she did tease, before going into depth about the characters of Grace and Jackson. “She does the most outrageous things, but he still loves her, you know?”

    “But she kind of takes it to the limit,” continued Ramsay. “It’s also about her marriage and whatnot, and she feels a bit invisible… There’s all that hope moving into a new house, there’s wild sex and then a baby comes in and he doesn’t want sex with her anymore. Those kinds of things that happen in relationships are in the film as well as elements of [postpartum depression].”

    The BFI London Film Festival 2025 runs Oct. 8-19.

    This movie is as close to perfect as a movie has ever been. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman light up on screen and bring such warmth and whimsy into the film. This movie features the best song placement in our memory with ‘This Kiss’ by Faith Hill, and features a quote we have lived by ever since. So remember, always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can.

    A murder mystery featuring Chris Evans as the villain, Daniel Craig as the detective, and a career-high performance from Ana de Armas? Count us in! This movie does a perfect job at keeping you guessing, yet if you watch it again, you will see each clue that led up to the reveal clear as day. It’s the ideal fall family watch with a star-studded cast.

    Beetlejuice (1988)

    Beetlejuice is synonymous with the spooky season. Like clockwork, the calendar turns to October and we are set ready to sing along to some Harry Belafonte and remember what sparked our love for obscure art and tiny replicas. Beetlejuice has become a cultural mainstay; you can’t go into any Halloween section without seeing the face of Michael Keaton looking back at you, as it should be.

    Twilight (2008)

    It is officially Twilight season! We have ‘Eyes on Fire’ by Blue Foundation on repeat, we are relishing in the rainy days, and we are falling right back into a time when the only choice we had to make that held weight was if we were Team Edward or Team Jacob. This movie launched the careers of some of the best working actors today, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, so technically, we have Stephanie Meyer to thank for the best Batman movie!

    Hocus Pocus (1993)

    We know we said Beetlejuice is synonymous with spooky season, but Hocus Pocus gives it a run for its money! From the endless quotes that have become a normal part of the cultural zeitgeist to the Sanderson Sisters being on every piece of merch imaginable, there is no escaping what a timeless film Hocus Pocus has evolved into.

    Scooby-Doo (2002)

    Scooby-Doo may just be the best casted movie of all time. They nailed every single role and crafted the world of Spooky Island in a way that made it feel real. We still think not making Spooky Island into a real amusement park was a miss of epic proportions. We actually are going to go watch this movie right now, and relish in what masterpiece it is.

  • ‘The Batman II’ Should Be Out This Weekend. Why Do We Care?

    In another life, we’d all be talking about The Batman Part II this weekend. The sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 hit was first meant for October 3, 2025, only to be repeatedly put off by the Hollywood strikes and other woes. It’s now coming October 1, 2027, and whether it lands that release date or not, fans are waiting with bated breath to learn anything they can about the film. Will it introduce Robin? Are the Court of Owls the villain, or is it Mr. Freeze? Will the powers that be make Robert Pattinson the Batman of the newly launched DC Universe?

    Demand for answers escalated to the point DC boss James Gunn has played defense for Reeves a handful of times, at one point telling people to leave the man alone as he works on the script.

    Rampant speculation and anticipation have always been part of fandoms, particularly for superheroes. But it’s safe to say it’s grown into a larger beast over the years thanks to leaks and rumors from scoopers implying or outright stating what they’ve learned on social media, rarely with anyone official pushing back on what’s going out and being shared by those eager to hear any and everything related to their favorite thing.

    Some discoveries end up being true, others wildly incorrect. Either way, they do their job keeping something in the conversation when the official channels aren’t doing what some would consider their due diligence and providing a frequent stream of updates. Any silence that lasts longer than a couple of days is a sign that the upcoming project is washed and its creators have lost their spark or that it’s been quietly canceled.

    There’s no point in pretending The Batman Part II or Insomniac’s Wolverine game—which similarly went without years of any news before being officially unveiled in late September, following the studio being hacked in 2024—would face quiet ends. WB and Sony are loud companies, and if something of that stature had been gutted, we’d have known about it by now.

    But the fear of them going away exists thanks to both companies (and plenty more) killing off projects like Batgirl, Naughty Dog’s multiplayer-focused Last of Us spinoff, and too many more to count. Depending on who you ask, the fear of not knowing something is coming is worse than knowing it’ll never come, as made clear by Hollow Knight: Silksong becoming a meme thanks to its dubious existence from 2018 up until this past August.

    After years of what fans would consider a feast of great IP works—and the occasional nibble on decent enough ones—this string of cancellations in recent years has left a sense of resentment and betrayal in their wake. It’s one thing to see Leslie Grace in Batgirl’s Burnside costume and hear that movie was basically done before its untimely end. It’s another to get vague ideas of what a game’s developer is intending or see minutes’ worth of footage at a major showcase, as we saw with Monolith’s Wonder Woman and The Initiative’s Perfect Dark.

    Between cancelled movies and games, news of the latter stings so much more thanks to the layoffs that follow in the immediate aftermath and the post-cancellation news revealing development was rough in some shape or form, or the developer’s parent company wasn’t willing to see the project through to the end. All the fan love in the world can work wonders, but it can’t do anything against “market conditions,” crunch, or corporations’ growing interest in AI.

    At the end of the 2010s, io9 wrote about how fandoms became gradually intertwined with the corporations that own the IP they love. Five years into the ’20s, and fandoms are now seeing the backlash of that synthesis by being cursed with knowledge. Many fans have taken it upon themselves to know everything about a game, movie, show, or artist and end up spiraling should news not emerge or arrive with potentially worrying implications. They have to know who’s involved with the project from top to bottom and how it’s progressing so they know which creatives to rally support or disdain for, or if they need to, shake those creators back to life if their pulse starts to fade.

    The fixation on the things to come, like The Batman Part II and Wolverine, will not end. We’re already seeing this with a TikTok creator’s alleged trip to Scotland to demand Rockstar North give more info, put out a new trailer, and say something about May 2026’s Grand Theft Auto 6: to be a fan of something is to constantly want something, then look forward to the next big thing on the horizon.

    In that respect, Reeves and company should take as much time as they need on Batman II—unless something catastrophic happens, it’s not like this epic crime saga is in danger of truly losing its momentum or place in the superhero landscape.

  • Five Years Ago, ‘The Batman’ Made Its Brutal, Moody Debut

    On August 22, 2020, Warner Bros. held its first-ever DC FanDome, a weekend-long virtual event meant to make up for that year’s San Diego Comic-Con, which was canceled due to the pandemic. If you’ve ever followed big industry events like the Game Awards or… well, Comic-Con, you know they often come with a big trailer or two that’s meant to make it all worth it. And for WB, the big showcase for its inaugural, short-lived event was the very first look at Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

    Trailers for superhero movies have gradually become more and more of a big deal, whether they’re telegraphed in advance, leaked, or appear just out of the blue. The Batman already caught the internet’s eye with casting Twilight alum Robert Pattinson in the lead role, and excitement truly began to grow once Reeves showed the actor in his Batsuit and the most car-looking Batmobile in years.

    It also didn’t hurt that this was the first solo Bat-movie in nearly a decade and technically the true start of WB’s plans to dabble around with a cinematic multiverse that kept this Batman in his own world away from other goings-on at the time.

    Within 24 hours, that teaser amassed over 31 million views, and while those numbers are short in the grand scheme, it did its job in getting people talking about Batman again. If online circles weren’t discussing its darkness in comparison to the Nolan films, they were gushing over Colin Farrell’s makeup job as Penguin or listening to Nirvana’s “Something in the Way” on repeat. For a movie that was openly marketing itself back then as still in the works, it won enough of the internet over right away that they were willing to follow Reeves to hell if it meant getting to see this on the big screen.

    Had things gone to plan, The Batman would’ve come out in June 2021, but the pandemic forced a readjustment. The Batman was a quarter into production when it was indefinitely paused for most of 2020, during which the film’s dialect coach Andrew Jack passed away from covid and Pattinson himself tested positive just days after work resumed again. As a result, things were basically radio silent until late 2021, when the film basically reintroduced itself with a new trailer that kept the mood and song but featured more bombast and a great idea of what the movie would be about. On just one of WB’s YouTube accounts, it’s gotten over 65 million views and closes on a shot that’ll likely define Reeves’ entire Batman tenure. If there were any doubts that people lost interest in this movie because of the pandemic, that second trailer sure proved that wrong.

    Since that first trailer came and went, The Batman (which hit theaters March 4, 2022) has continued to have a hold on the internet, which has been waiting impatiently for its sequel. Like its predecessor, The Batman Part II has had no shortage of production problems and delays, to the degree that DC Studios head James Gunn politely (but firmly) told people to back off Reeves. The second movie isn’t due for another two years and change and only recently entered pre-production—but when the first proper look at that one hits, expect comparisons between it and its predecessor’s first trailer as fans once again prepare to fall in love with Reeves’ interpretation of DC’s ever-brooding leading man.

    The album itself deserves its own listen, but “Mindless Creatures” is a great start for those who want to get to know Dayglow. It’s feel good, introspective, and nostalgic music. A great response to his mega-hits like “Can I Call You Tonight” and “Hot Rod.”

    In new album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin, her single “Model, Actress, Whatever” is a commentary on her life right now. As a new mother alongside Robert Pattinson, a talented actress, model, and singer, Waterhouse seems to have it all going on. But she warns you to F*** what you heard.

    Cloonee, Andruss- “Pegao”

    Collaborators Andruss and Cloonee hit the mark with “Pegao,” a high energy, exciting track that stays dynamic throughout its entirety. Rising star Andruss is keeping the momentum strong with another single with the potential to be a major club hit…and of course, Cloonee, with his signature ability to make any track of his an EDM hit.

    The pair make sense while working together: with Andruss’ explosive vocals and lyricism, and Cloonee’s solidified approach to making a banger. “Pegao” just continues another big year for both Andruss and Cloonee alike.

    JVKE, Nick Jonas- “this is what forever feels like”

Suki Waterhouse opened during the fifth night at Wembley Stadium, and Hayley Williams has given her and her fiancé Robert Pattinson a warm welcome. “Did you see Suki earlier? Suki fucking killed it! But I’d like to dedicate this next song to Mr. Waterhouse. He has the skin of a killer, Bella,” exclaimed Williams as they began to play their song“Decode” from Twilight. In case you were wondering how we got here, people used to know Twilight so well— Mr. Waterhouse was Edward Cullen himself. Fast forwarding a few years, Pattinson and Waterhouse have been together since 2018 and have a daughter (not named Renesmee). There is no word yet on if the baby has sparkling skin but she does have a 50/50 chance of it. If not, surely a Swiftie nearby would have plenty of glitter to share.

    Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are eyeing a new feature from filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

    A24 is set to finance and produce writer-director Borgli’s movie The Drama, which hails from Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen’s production company Square Peg. The stars are in early talks for the lead roles in the film from Borgli, who previously wrote and directed A24’s 2023 feature Dream Scenario that starred Nicolas Cage.

    Plot details have not been shared, but The Drama is said to involve a couple whose romance changes dramatically before their big day. Aster, Knudsen and Tyler Campellone serve as producers for Square Peg.

    Other collaborations between A24 and Square Peg include the forthcoming films Death of a Unicorne, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and the Aster-directed Eddington that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler. The two companies were also behind Dream Scenario, Hereditary and Midsommar.

    Zendaya is a two-time Emmy winner for her role on HBO’s Euphoria. She has seen her star power continue to grow in recent months with the 2024 features Challengers and Dune: Part Two.

    Pattinson, who played the title role in 2022 superhero movie The Batman, stars alongside Steven Yeun and Mark Ruffalo in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, hitting theaters early next year. He is also set to star in director Parker Finn’s remake of the 1981 horror flick Possession.

    Borgli’s Dream Scenario hit theaters in November and garnered a Golden Globe nomination for Cage. The dark comedy also starred Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera and Tim Meadows.

    Deadline was first to report the news of Zendaya and Pattinson circling The Drama.

    While the DC fans have had a fabulous experience watching The Batman, they might not get to see the highly anticipated Arkham Asylum TV series. A few new reports suggest that the series is not moving forward at Max. 

    Arkham Asylum would have been set in the same universe as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

    Arkham Asylum not moving forward

    The fans of Detective Comics were eagerly waiting for a new TV series that brought tales from a very famous place in the world of Batman. The Arkham Asylum show that made headlines in 2022 is now being reported to have been canceled.

    According to reports published by Variety in October 2022, Antonio Campos was chosen to work on the series as a writer and showrunner. However, the same publication has now reported that Campos’s version will not move forward, according to a source close to the development of the series at Max.

    The same source, however, has noted that a new project might eventually focus on the infamous Gotham City asylum.

    The Arkham Asylum series that was in talks for a while until now was supposed to be set in the same world in which Matt Reeves’ The Batman took place.

    About Arkham Asylum

    Primarily, the show was announced in July 2020, but at that time, the series focused on the storyline of Gotham PD that was seen in 2022’s The Batman. Back then, Terrence Winter was chosen to write the series and was also set to act as an executive producer for the planned show.

    However, creative differences led to his exit from the series in November 2020. Later, Joe Barton, the creator of Giri/Haji, came on board to write for the series, but Warner Bros. decided to part ways with him as well.

    In an interview that took place in 2022, Matt Reeves stated that the Gotham PD show had been canceled and that a story was in process for the Arkham Asylum series.

    At that time, the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director mentioned that the series would be like a “horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham.”

    Robert Pattinson’s last space sci-fi film saw the actor playing a prisoner made to serve his sentence on a shuttle hurtling toward a black hole (among other human-rights offenses, including really messed-up sexual harassment). His next space drama? Mickey 17, a Bong Joon Ho joint based on the novel Mickey7, by Edward Ashton, which tells the story of an employee on an expedition to colonize an ice world — but he’s doing it only for the check. He is cloned so he can continue the dangerous mission, and the number 7 is a reference to how many times he dies. Bong — who wrote, directed, and produced the film — explained the title change via an interpreter at CinemaCon. “I killed him 10 more times!” he said, per Variety. The Oscar-winning Parasite director said that Pattinson was perfect for the part because “he’s got this crazy thing in his eyes,” adding that he believed the actor had the creativity to play all the different variations of the character. Meanwhile, Pattinson — who called Bong his “hero” — said he was told the part was “impossible” when he first got the script, which excited him.

    A press tour has been a long time coming for this Warner Bros. film, which was originally set to hit theaters on March 29, 2024 and was later delayed indefinitely. According to Variety, the movie needed more time to finish after the Hollywood strikes and other production shifts. It finally received a release date, and is now set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.

    Not much has been said about the script, but the first look at the film depicts a comatose Pattinson emerging from sleep in what appears to be a cryogenic freezer in what seems like a tricked-out MRI machine in a long, sparse room. Steven Yeun (Minari), Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance With Somebody), Toni Collette (Hereditary), and Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk) round out the cast. If Bong’s previous films are anything to go by, Mickey 17 is likely shaping up to be another social thriller. We just hope it’ll thaw on schedule.

    The CW’s Arrowverse was once the talk of the superhero town, and arguably DC’s more successful live-action venture in the 2010s. But in recent years, the network’s superhero outings have all been shuttered, with Superman & Lois standing as the last Arrowverse hurrah for one more season.

    Sean Gunn on Working With His Brother

    In a recent interview with TheWrap, CW’s entertainment president Brad Schwartz and overall company president Dennis Miller talked about keeping some shows from the old regime. Superman & Lois has apparently performed quite well in previous seasons, but it was allegedly Warner Bros.’ call to cap it at four seasons. “They don’t want a competing Superman product in the marketplace,” Schwartz explained, effectively laying the blame for the show’s end at 2025’s Superman: Legacy from James Gunn.

    This isn’t the first time the Arrowverse has been put in this position: WB asked Arrow’s creators to put in several Suicide Squad regulars like Deadshot and Amanda Waller in its show to get audiences used to them before their silver screen debut. The show was also apparently keen to do something with Harley Quinn, but those plans had to be junked once she was a principal lead in the film. Both Deadshot and Waller, along with Katana, were killed off or disappeared. The same was true of Deathstroke, who was a recurring character on the show: when it seemed like he’d be getting a solo movie (or be the villain in a planned solo movie for Ben Affleck’s Batman), Arrow’s Deathstroke had to walk into the mist, never to be seen again.

    It’s a weird situation DC has put the Arrowverse in, least of all because it let Grant Gustin’s version of the Flash stick around for Ezra Miller’s (possible) entire tenure as the Flash in the movies. Batman’s also been fairly exempt from this rule, since Gotham was on during Affleck’s Bat-tenure, and Robert Pattinson’s version is getting to co-exist with the evental Bats who’ll headline The Brave & the Bold.

    However, it’s also worth noting that the new CW regime is about saving (and eventually making) money lost by the old bosses. Schwartz even admitted when he and Miller came onboard, the network had “lost a lot of money.” And like WB Discovery, it’s in a penny-pinching move: Superman & Lois has had to dump several longtime series regulars and writers for its final season, and the episode count has been slimmed down from a standard 13-15 range to just 10. Schwartz similarly told TheWrap other veteran shows like All American and Walker will stick around on the network…as long as their budgets stay relatively the same.

    Either way, four seasons is a solid run for any show, and getting too long in the tooth has long been an issue with the medium (especially ones on this network). It’s not ideal, but at least Superman & Lois gets to go out on its own terms and deliver as much of an ending as it can.

    I remember exactly where I was when I first watched it: the trailer for Challengers starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor. That was my Super Bowl. It had everything: besties, bisexuality, and Zendaya in that Blonde bob.

    I had waited months to finally get a glimpse of Zendaya’s collaboration with Luca Guadagnino. Ever since the film had been announced, we’d savored clips of Zendaya practicing her tennis game, Tomdaya strolling around Boston on location, and even her judgemental looks (and flawless courtside fashion) at Wimbledon and the US Open.

    And just when we were on the precipice of a legendary press tour — that was supposed to include a stop at the Venice International Film Festival — it was taken away from us by the SAG strike.

    Challengers was originally slated to premiere on September 15, 2023. Due to the strike, it was pushed back to April 26th, 2024. You can understand my devastation. Especially since Challengers was not the only casualty of the strike. Many films were pushed from late 2023 release dates and into 2024. Luckily, we had some bangers to close out the year. But we have been so brave and, in the new year, we are about to be rewarded.

    2024 promises a slew of highly anticipated films. And not just delayed projects, but other cinematic delights that we’ve been waiting years for. And with the press circuit back and better than ever, we also have promotional interviews, red carpets, and more to look forward to. After Barbie put on a marketing masterclass, next year promises to take it up a notch. And I, quite frankly, cannot wait.

    Here are some of our most anticipated titles in 2024:

    Challengers, April 26

    It goes without saying that I’ll be first in line when tickets are finally released. Join me to watch Zendaya play a retired tennis star in the middle of a years-long love triangle. All directed by the man who made Call Me By Your Name.

    Dune: Part II, March 15

    Speaking of delayed Zendaya projects, Dune’s long-awaited sequel is finally coming. Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya will be joined by Austin Butler and Florence Pugh — which is enough for me.

    Argylle, February 2

    ​If you can’t wait until the Spring, don’t worry, Argylle will be out in February. It promises to be a hilarious take on the spy genre that subverts all the old tropes and cliches. It stars Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill. We’re in for a delightfully ridiculous treat.

    The Fall Guy, May 3

    Another comedic action film, The Fall Guy stars Ryan Gosling as a stunt man who becomes the hero of the screen when he has to save his ex, Emily Blunt. If you liked Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in The Lost City, you’ll love this.

    Spaceman, March 1

    Based on the book Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař, Adam Sandler is returning to dramatic roles with a movie that promises to be his next Uncut Gems or Punch Drunk Love. He stars alongside Paul Dano, Carey Mulligan, and Kunal Nayyar stars as an astronaut whose life unravels while he is on a mission.

    Mean Girls: The Musical, January 12

    While this might not be as giant as Barbie, this musical remake of the 2000s classic is already a hit. Starring Renee Rapp as Regina George, a role she has been playing on Broadway for years, I can’t wait to relive all the iconic Mean Girls moments on the big screen.

    The American Society of Magical Negroes, March 22

    Black satire is back in a big way. After the success of 2023’s American Fiction, I am excited to see another film that examines Black representation in pop culture. This satire stars Justice Smith as a man who enters a secret society of Black people who embody the “magical negro” trope.

    Bob Marley: One Love, February 14

    Biopics can be hit or miss, so fingers crossed that Kingsley Ben-Adir’s turn as Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Marley hits the right notes. Produced in partnership with the Marley family, the film spotlights his life and career, including his political activism and fight for peace.

    Mickey 17, March 29

    One thing about me? I love an unsettling film — hence my devotion to Saltburn. Bong Joon-ho’s first movie after Parasite, Mickey 17, promises to fit the bill. It stars A-List weirdo Robert Pattinson in an adapted tale about a man who dies and is reborn with memories of his past life.

    Deadpool 3, July 26

    Deadpool 3 might be the last good Marvel movie we get because it’s looking pretty bleak for the next generation. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds team up for this tale of Deadpool and Wolverine. The summer blockbuster we deserve.

    Kraven: The Hunter, August 30

    Hear me out: Aaron Taylor Johnson. Marvel is trying their best to replicate the success of Joker with their own villain origin story. Kraven is a Spiderman villain but, more than that, I would like to reiterate: Aaron Taylor Johnson.

    Joker: Folie à Deux, October 4

    Following the Oscar-winning success of the first Joker , DC is hoping this sequel will save them from the despair of 2023’s The Flash. More than anything else, I’m curious to see Lady Gaga join Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn.

    Wicked, November 27

    While movie-musicals have a spotty history (think: Cats and Les Mis), Wicked is so iconic I want to believe in it. It stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. The cast has already made headlines for Slater’s relationship with Grande — it’s giving Don’t Worry Darling presstour-levels of chaos already.

    Gladiator 2, November 22

    ​Will 2024 make me an action movie stan? If Paul Mescal has anything to do with it, it’s more likely than you think. Gladiator, the 2000 film starring Russell Crowe, spawned a generation of men thinking about the Roman Empire. Ridley Scott returns with this long-awaited sequel to hope he can strike lightning twice.

    In defense of English dubs, no one does it better than Studio Ghibli. It’s not a matter of either-or; with the incredible global talents that span the original Japanese voices and the English casts, it just means we get more!

    With the release of The Boy and the Heron, which features Robert Pattinson’s dedicated vocal bird transformation, we’re looking back at the best Studio Ghibli dubs. When it comes to Hayao Miyazaki’s films, care has always been taken between by the Disney and GKIDS distributors to cast the English roles with incredible talent. It’s no easy feat to perform in sync with animation, let alone in a foreign language, but it helps to have the guidance of directors such as Pixar’s Pete Docter (Howl’s Moving Castle) who approach the task with appropriate reverence. While we understand the importance of subtitles—and we’d never take away from the wonderful work of the original Japanese voice casts—dubs help make the films accessible to more audiences. And as an animation fan, I love dubs because I can bask in the art and storytelling without reading and then revisiting with subtitles. It’s a preference and a gateway for more global animation to travel the world.

    When people think of the first Twilight movie, their minds inevitably drift not to an action sequence or special-effects-driven set piece, but to the baseball scene. That’s where we learn that vampires can only engage in America’s favorite pastime during a heavy storm, because their super-speed and strength capabilities can only be sheathed beneath thunder and lightning. The two-and-a-half minute scene relies on a moody blue filter, some in-camera slo-mo, and Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole.” In between takes, the cast say they speculated about the production’s fate. “We were like, ‘Man, I wonder if anybody’s going to see this film,’” Peter Facinelli, who played coven patriarch Carlisle Cullen, has previously said. “We were doing this little vampire movie in the woods.”

    Based on Stephanie Meyers’s best-selling novel, the film premiered in November 2008 to $69 million in its opening weekend, eventually grossing more than $400 million worldwide. It was a box office hit for indie studio Summit Entertainment and spawned four more films based on Meyers’s books—2009’s New Moon, 2010’s Eclipse, 2011’s Breaking Dawn–Part 1, and 2012’s Breaking Dawn–Part 2. The franchise generated more than $3 billion total and spawned other YA franchises like The Hunger Games and Divergent, as well as the Fifty Shades franchise, which was based on Twilight fan fiction.

    The series was unavoidably popular, but also easy to poke fun at. Because it was created by and for women, the plot was often reduced to the love triangle between Kristen Stewart’s mortal Bella, Robert Pattinson’s vampire Edward, and Taylor Lautner’s werewolf Jacob. Movie marketing fueled by the Team Edward versus Team Jacob debate didn’t help matters. Fifteen years before the pop cultural dominance and subsequent respect earned by ventures like Barbie or Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, even valid criticism of Twilight was drowned out by the prevailing notion that art targeted towards a predominantly female audience should be stigmatized.

    Tides started to turn in 2020 with the publication of a new Twilight book from Meyer, a Netflix streaming deal for the original films, and a global pandemic that had the world indoors and eager to escape. The rise of TikTok, where the Twilight hashtag has upwards of 28 billion views, gave way to nostalgic trends about the movies. Those who once felt shame about their fandom could reclaim the movies, and those who weren’t old enough to experience the initial fervor were exposed to Twilight secondhand. Take this comment under a clip of the movie’s baseball scene on YouTube: “POV: you saw a TikTok recreation and came to check how accurate it was.”

    Evidence of Twilight’s endurance is plentiful. Fans are flocking to Forks, Washington (where the series takes place) in record numbers. “In 2022 we had the biggest year, tourism-wise that we’ve had since 2010, and we’ve already beat out those numbers as of this September,” Lissy Andros, the executive director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce, recently told Wired. “Probably 65% of visitors to Forks come because of Twilight.”
