Fonroche Lighting Installs More Solar Streetlights in 12 Hours Than Ever Before

The scene was in Rowlett, Texas, where City Manager David Hall blew the starting whistle at 7:00 a.m. and Fonroche’s installation team sprang into action, working at a record pace to earn a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most solar streetlights installed in a 12-hour period. A Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to verify the achievement and present the official certificate. In 10 hours and 35 minutes, Fonroche finished the project, installing just under 70 lighting systems, or 3.1 miles of roadway.

    Why Attempt a World Record?
For the City of Rowlett & Fonroche Lighting America, this event was never about a medal or a certificate-it was about proving what’s possible. Communities across America wait months, years, or even decades for safe, reliable streetlighting. Fonroche wanted to provide a real-world demonstration that transformation doesn’t have to take a generation-it can happen in a single day. After Rowlett, there’s no need to just imagine it anymore.

    More Than Just Speed
Rowlett’s City Manager and Council Members weren’t only focused on how fast the project could be completed. They had a financial decision to make. The local utility had proposed a $2.8 million plan to light State Highway 66. Fonroche Lighting America offered a solar-powered alternative at about half the cost. Rowlett accepted the offer, using the remaining funding to expand coverage to include Rowlett Road and Dalrock Road.

The result: three major corridors lit instead of one, without electric bills or long-term utility contracts.

“Lighting three roadways for the price of one is the kind of outcome that resonates with every city official and every taxpayer,” David Hall, City Manager of Rowlett added. “Rowlett’s investment proves that solar belongs at the center of any conversation when contemplating modern roadway infrastructure.”

A Smarter, Safer Future for Rowlett
Fonroche’s solar streetlights come with a 365-nights-a-year guarantee, staying on even during utility power outages. And because they require no underground wiring, they are completely immune to copper wire theft-a growing problem for cities nationwide.

Rowlett’s record-breaking installation is more than a headline-it’s a model for how communities can rapidly, affordably, and permanently solve their streetlighting challenges.

Rowlett Illumination Celebration & Watch Party
The City plans to celebrate the completion of the 3 projects with a Celebration and Watch Party.

  • Evluma’s New Roadway Luminaire, RoadMax RX3, Replaces 150-400W HID Cobraheads

Evluma’s New Roadway Luminaire, RoadMax RX3, Replaces 150-400W HID Cobraheads

    [ad_1]

Evluma crowns their versatile roadway product line with their largest LED roadway luminaire to date. The RoadMax RX3 is positioned to assist municipalities and utilities retire inefficient and maintenance-intensive legacy HID cobraheads on major roadways.

Evluma announces the release of the LED RoadMax RX3 roadway luminaire. The large, triple-light-engine RX3 is up to 50% more energy efficient than the 150-400W HID cobraheads it’s positioned to replace.

The RX3 completes Evluma’s RoadMax series of low-glare roadway luminaires. The release of the RX3 also kicks off a series of new features that will roll out over the entire product line, including 277-480VAC compatibility. The RoadMax RX3 is available in model wattages ranging from 120-300W. Optionally, an adjustable lumen output switch increases service efficiency by expanding each model wattage with an additional seven output settings.

Like the rest of the RoadMax luminaires, the RX3 is distinguished by its sophisticated, durable design and low-glare, precision optics. Multiple luminaire configurations for Type II, Type III, Type IV and Type V, all with zero-uplight (U0), are offered. Proven to further reduce glare, the RX3 is released with signature RoadMax secondary lenses. Innovative field-installable shields curtail light trespass. The large roadway luminaire can be ordered with a 7-pin socket for networked nodes and 20kV/10kA Extreme surge protection. Like all RoadMax, the RX3 can be customized to include Evluma’s Photocontrol Failsafe, a patented technology that solves photocontrol failures on street and area lights.

The RoadMax RX2 spanning 70 – 220 watts was released in March of 2023 and the award-winning RX1 offered in 30-100 watts was released in March of 2022. “Color temperatures, efficacy targets, expanding specifications, adherence to RP-8-22 (IES) plus citizen feedback are just a few factors that can influence the choice of roadway luminaire. Overlapping wattages between each size luminaire (small, medium, large) allow for a variety of choices in efficacy (lm/W) and light output. “It also affords additional flexibility if the goal is to stock fewer SKUs,” stated Evluma Marketing Director Cathleen Shattuck. “With a 10-year warranty and 20kV/10kA surge protection the RX3 crowns this robust line of roadway luminaires.”

See the RX3 and the entire RoadMax product line at TechAdvantage, San Antonio, TX March 4-6, 2024 or at LEDucation, NYC, NY March 18-20, 2024.

The RoadMax RX1 is the first model in Evluma’s new LED roadway lighting portfolio, and it was designed with RP-8-21 roadway requirements in mind. The unique optical design offers a combination of roadway performance and glare control that is unprecedented in the industry.

“RoadMax is the result of Evluma continuing to ask questions about our customers’ lighting needs and listening to the answers,” stated VP of Sales & Marketing, David Tanonis. “We’re applying our engineering expertise to solve roadway lighting challenges in new ways.”

Evluma began shipping 30-70w RX1 last spring. With the addition of these new models, RoadMax now offers a complete range of wattages for smaller roadway luminaires, designed to replace HPS luminaires up to 250w.

CEO Don Vendetti notes, “This release really completes the lumen package for the RX1 and gives our customers more powerful and flexible options for their roadway applications. It delivers lots of lumens, in a compact package, at an approachable price—all without compromising the quality of the light delivered.”

The RoadMax line offers multiple luminaire configurations for Type II, Type III and Type V, all with zero-uplight (U0). Additional features, such as a field adjustable wattage selector (FAO), light trespass shields and a choice of photocontrol sockets, are available. Evluma’s comprehensive 10-year warranty and signature 20kV/10kA surge protection come standard with every model.

National Sales Director Chris Lubeck, who joined Evluma in November 2022, added, “This is exactly what makes Evluma an exciting player in the industry. It demonstrates our deep customer focus and drive to innovate.”

Evluma will continue to expand the RoadMax with the larger and more powerful RX2 and RX3 models, which will replace legacy HID cobraheads up to 250w and 400w, respectively.
