A brazen attempt to use counterfeit money in a drug deal set off a dangerous chase that included gunfire and cars ramming each in broad daylight, according to investigators in North Carolina.

The chase erupted around 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, near Taylorsville, and deputies initially believed it was a case of road rage.

“Through the course of the investigation, officers determined that Robert Morgan Galle had traveled to Catawba County to purchase narcotics from Brian Keith Brown and Albert Dennis Schroeder,” the Alexander County Sheriffs Office said in a Nov. 7 news release.

“Investigators learned that Brown and Schroeder were defrauded by Galle, who allegedly used counterfeit currency to pay for the narcotics. Following the fraudulent transaction, Brown and Schroeder pursued Galle’s vehicle.”

It was during the pursuit that “shots were fired into Galle’s vehicle,” officials said.

The pursuing car then rammed Galle’s vehicle “at which point Galle rammed their vehicle in return,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies and troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol launched a search for the vehicles, resulting in both being stopped and all three men arrested, officials said.

Galle, 35, of Taylorsville is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, the sheriff’s office said.

Brown, 45, of Conover is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving to endanger and driving while license revoked, officials said.

Schroeder, 42, of Conover is charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Taylorsville is about a 65-mile drive northwest from Charlotte.

  • Man jailed after road rage shooting in Miami-Dade, sheriff’s office says

In Miami-Dade, a road rage incident led to a shooting where Emilio Rodriguez allegedly shot a man in the face on Friday night.

In Miami-Dade, a road rage incident led to a shooting where Emilio Rodriguez allegedly shot a man in the face on Friday night.

Two men began arguing after a road rage incident in Miami-Dade on Friday, when one of them pulled out a gun and fired what he claimed was a “warning shot” — but which struck the other man in the face instead, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say that around 7:45 p.m., the two men got out of their cars and began to argue near Northwest 84th Avenue and Central Park Boulevard in Doral.

As one of the men walked back to his car, deputies say 54-year-old Emilio Rodriguez pulled out a gun and yelled at him. When the man turned around, Rodriguez fired, hitting him in the face, according to the arrest affidavit.

The sheriff’s office didn’t release the name of the man who was shot.

Rodriguez then got back into his car and fled the scene, deputies said.

The wounded man was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Rodriguez was later detained and admitted to investigators that he fired a “warning shot near the victim’s head,” according to his arrest paperwork.

Deputies said that the entire incident was captured on nearby surveillance footage.

Rodriguez is charged with attempted murder and remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Saturday, with his bond still to be set, according to jail records.

  • Say WHAT?! Indiana Woman Allegedly Shoots Man After He Honked At Green Light (VIDEO)

Roomies, what started as a minor honk on the road quickly spiraled into a nightmare. Deborah Benefiel is now facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a man, Kentrell Settles during a road rage incident in Indianapolis. And honestly, it’s a reminder that some tempers behind the wheel are way too short. A simple moment of frustration turned deadly, leaving a young life cut tragically short and the community reeling.

RELATED: Wait, What?! Baltimore Teen Speaks Out After AI Mistake Lands Him In Handcuffs Over Snack (VIDEO)

Indiana Road Rage Incident Ends In Tragedy

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, the drama unfolded on October 17 when 21-year-old Kentrell Settles honked at Deborah Benefiel while she was stopped at a green light in Indianapolis. What started as a minor traffic irritation quickly escalated when Benefiel allegedly followed Settles. She also reportedly shouted at him and eventually fired a gun into his vehicle on Donald Avenue. The bullet reportedly hit Settles first in the lung, then the heart, before coming to rest in his chest. Following the shooting, Settles was rushed to Eskenazi Health in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

License Plates Lead To Road Rage Arrest

Authorities reported that Benefiel was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Detectives tracked Benefiel down within hours thanks to his license plate recognition technology sweeping across the city. Additionally, she was positively identified by Settles’ girlfriend who was also in the car during the shooting. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears called the incident a stark reminder that “a moment of anger should not cost someone their life,” highlighting just how quickly tempers behind the wheel can turn deadly.

“The shooting occurred at approximately 2 p.m. and is alleged to have occurred after the victim honked at the defendant to alert them that a traffic signal had turned green,” a statement from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office revealed. “It’s further alleged the defendant followed the victim while yelling and throwing her hands at them before shooting into his vehicle, striking him in the chest.”

    What Happens Next?

The 23-year-old Benefiel appeared in court Tuesday facing murder and criminal recklessness charges, with the judge ordering her held without bond. Another hearing is scheduled for November 4 as prosecutors continue to prepare their case. Meanwhile, Mears emphasized the need for the community to respond to conflicts calmly rather than resorting to violence, a sentiment that resonates now more than ever after this senseless loss.

Furthermore, Settles’ father spoke to Fox 59 saying his son “loved by so many people” as he mourned his sudden death. “And so many people are going to miss him,” Kenneth Murff, the victim’s father added. “A precious life was taken for no reason.

  • McBride: Road rage risks student safety during school bus pick-ups | Long Island Business News

    In Brief:
    • Nearly 500,000 U.S. school buses transport 25 million students daily, with most dangers occurring when children board or exit.
    • Illegal school bus passings dropped 13% nationwide in 2024-2025, yet 39.3 million violations still occurred, creating serious safety risks.
    • Long Island school districts use BusPatrol stop-arm cameras in partnership with law enforcement to capture and penalize reckless drivers.
    • Ongoing efforts emphasize awareness, technology, and collaboration to ensure safer roads for students year-round.

The spike in road rage and dangerous driver behavior is on a collision course with our children.

Each school day in the U.S., roughly 500,000 school buses carry more than 25 million students to and from school. While school buses are considered the safest mode of transport for students, the greatest safety risk to schoolchildren isn’t during the actual ride itself, but when they get on and off the bus–due to the indifference of reckless drivers who drive by those buses without regard to the children whose lives they place at risk. On Long Island, the student population is approximately half a million lives, considered to be one of the largest concentrations of this demographic in the nation.

This crisis in road rage comes at a time when a national survey of drivers found that in 2024, 96% of respondents witnessed at least one aggressive driving behavior in the prior six months. In addition, millennials have been identified as the generation most likely to express road rage, with 51% cited in aggressive driving incidents.

The numbers should give every parent pause for thought. During the 2024-2025 school year, there were an estimated 39.3 million illegal school bus passings nationwide, according to a National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) survey. The good news is this recognizes a 13% decline compared with the previous year (45.2 million violations)–and signals a meaningful step forward–but the enormous scale of the problem remains a public safety crisis. These are not just statistics. That is because every time a driver fails to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended, they put a child’s life at risk. Even one injury or fatality is one too many.

As we observe National School Bus Safety Week, it is time we understood that this not some marketing gimmick akin to “Ice Cream Day” or “National Bubble Wrap Day.” It is an effort to focus awareness and education regarding the importance of school bus safety, spotlighting the genuine threat to children posed by drivers disregarding stopped school buses, and reminding motorists and children to follow best safety practices. It also presents an opportunity for collaboration among parents, students, school administrators, teachers, school bus operators, drivers, and law enforcement to further prevent accidents and enhance student safety.

The latest NASDPTS data is evidence that the measures taken by states, municipalities and school districts across the U.S. to tackle the problem of illegal motorist behavior around school buses are working. This includes increasing penalties for violations, authorizing the use of photo evidence for issuing citations, and implementing automated stop-arm enforcement programs.

On Long Island, many school districts have embraced a school bus stop-arm photo enforcement program in partnership with BusPatrol–a leading provider of school bus safety technology–along with local law enforcement. As part of the initiative, participating buses are equipped with BusPatrol’s cameras designed to capture vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses. The video evidence is then provided to law enforcement for review before a decision is made by them whether to issue summons.

The program continues to have a measured success, helping to reduce illegal passings and holding reckless drivers accountable, ensuring safer roads for every student.

While we are encouraged by the drop in illegal school bus passings here on Long Island and nationwide, the toxic combination of road rage and an indifference to student safety remains at crisis levels. There is so much more work to do. We need widespread adoption of automated school bus safety technology so that drivers understand their behavior will be documented, brought to the attention of law enforcement, and penalties will follow illegal and dangerous behavior that put our children at risk.

October may officially include National School Bus Safety Week, but protecting our children traveling to school doesn’t end when the banners and posters are put away.

  • Rochester man receives stayed sentence for role in fatal road rage shooting outside a Chick-fil-A

Is road rage getting worse in America?

Is road rage getting worse in America?

    03:33

A 28-year-old Rochester man has been sentenced for his role in a road rage shooting that killed a man outside a Chick-fil-A in February 2024.

An Olmsted County judge handed down a 75-month prison sentence, which will be stayed for five years, to Jose Gutierrez Ojeda on Tuesday. His sentencing is a downward departure from guidelines. He must serve 77 more days of jail time, but it can be served on work release if the state determines he is eligible. Once released from prison, Gutierrez Ojeda will be on probation for five years.

Gutierrez Ojeda pleaded guilty to one felony count of aiding an offender in February. He was driving a Nissan with his brother, Isaac Gutierrez, as a passenger on Feb. 3, 2024, according to the criminal complaint.

When Gutierrez Ojeda tried to back into a parking spot, he blocked a driver in a Chevrolet Suburban. Gutierrez Ojeda drove a short distance and a man driving the Suburban followed before both drivers stopped and left their vehicles.

Another man got out of the Suburban, and a fight ensued. During the altercation, Gutierrez got out of the Nissan and shot the man driving the Suburban in the head, charges said. He was hospitalized and later died.

Authorities identified Gutierrez and Gutierrez Ojeda using witness statements and surveillance video.

Gutierrez was sentenced to 60 months in prison for second-degree murder in October 2024.

Additional charges against Gutierrez Ojeda, including one count each of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, making terroristic threats with reckless disregard for risk and aiding an offender after the fact, were dropped as part of a plea deal.

  • Ex-San Jose cop pleads to on-duty indecent exposure, sexual battery, road rage

SAN JOSE — A former San Jose police officer who gained notoriety in 2022 after he was caught masturbating while working a family disturbance call has pleaded no contest to indecent exposure, along with separate instances of groping women both on- and off-duty, and a subsequent road rage episode while he was out of custody for the previous charges.

Matthew Dominguez, 35, entered the plea to Judge Benjamin Williams in a San Jose courtroom on Tuesday. Under the terms of a plea agreement with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, he will be technically sentenced to three years and two months in prison, though because of credit for the year and nine months he has spent at the Santa Clara County Main Jail, he won’t spend any additional time in custody.

Dominguez was granted supervised release pending his scheduled Sept. 25 sentencing, and in the intervening weeks is expected to resolve two sets of misdemeanor DUI charges in San Mateo County before returning to Santa Clara County court. As part of the plea agreement, Dominguez will voluntarily surrender his police certification with the state Commission Peace Officer Standards and Training, which had temporarily suspended his licensing pending the outcome of the criminal case.

He also pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor stemming from a Palo Alto traffic stop in which he reportedly refused to submit to alcohol screening. That occurred just a week before his Nov. 17, 2023 road rage arrest, and those cases and the San Mateo County DUI arrests all occurred months after his four-year stint with the San Jose Police Department ended under the cloud of the sexual misconduct charges.

“A police officer’s presence should ensure safety and care. Matthew Dominguez abused that notion to harm his victims and he undermined the badge he wore by doing so,” Deputy District Attorney Jason Malinsky said Tuesday. “Today he is being held accountable for his crimes in and out of uniform.”

Dominguez’s attorney, Daniel Mayfield, said his client’s mental health began suffering after joining SJPD in 2018 and that he received counseling and medical treatment while in jail. Dominguez was the subject of court hearings to evaluate his mental competence that ended with him being deemed fit for trial.

“This was a very sad situation,” Mayfield said in a statement. “We believe that a settlement in this case was in the interest of all parties, and Mr. Dominguez has expressed his profound condolences to the victims in these cases.”

A man has been arrested a week after a 27-year-old was killed in a road rage shooting along a Texas roadway, authorities say.

Osman Estanly Solorzano Sanchez is charged with murder following the April 15 shooting in Houston, according to Harris County court records filed April 22.

The Houston Police Department said officers responded to a report of a shooting, and they found the 27-year-old victim shot and killed in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

He was identified by KHOU and KTRK as Ricardo Vega, a father of two.

Sanchez is accused of attempting to hide the firearm used in the shooting and modifying the appearance of his truck to avoid being caught, according to court records.

He was jailed on a $150,000 bond and is due in court April 24, court records show.

“His smile could light up a room,” Victoria Garcia told KHOU of her son, Vega. “That’s what’s giving momma strength right now besides my father God.”

  • Sacramento man convicted of four freeway shootings and sentenced to 90 years to be released early

Sacramento man convicted of four freeway shootings and sentenced to 90 years to be released early

(FOX40.COM) — A man who was convicted of four freeway shootings and sentenced to 90 years in prison was approved to be released back into Sacramento County after only serving 14 years.

Kyle Douglas Frank was convicted by a jury for firing several gunshots at cars on four separate occasions in August and September of 2009. His victims were all Black or Hispanic and officials believe his crimes were racially charged.

“He unloaded his gun and put about six bullets in my passenger door, shattered my side view mirror, and all because I looked inside of his car,” said Paul Adcock, a survivor of one of the freeway shootings on I-80 in 2009. “Calling me the N-word and everything else and giving me the finger.”

On April 10, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Board of Parole Hearings granted parole to Frank.

“I thought justice was done, when they said 90-plus years. It hasn’t even been half of that. So why he’s getting out so soon, is beyond me,” Adcock said.

Sacramento County Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney Rochelle Beardsley voiced concerns about the possibility of Frank being released from prison.

“It’s our position that he is not eligible or amenable to parole,” Beardsley said. “Public safety is the mandate of the District Attorney’s Office.”

Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho’s office warned the public of Frank’s release.

“Each victim was either Hispanic or African American,” the DA’s office said. “He attempted to murder eight innocent people simply because of their skin color.”

The DA’s office said they asked Governor Gavin Newsom to intervene with the boards decision, but if he doesn’t, Frank will be released back into the Sacramento community.

(FOX40.COM) — A man from Sacramento has been arrested and placed into a Sacramento County jail after he shot at another vehicle while driving on Interstate 5, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP said it believes that the incident was fueled by road rage and that the man, 27, is facing several charges, including attempted murder.

On December 30, the 27-year-old man was driving north along I-5 near Twin Cities Road, which is located in the southern part of Sacramento County. CHP officers said that the man shot five times at another vehicle.

“An occupant of the other vehicle fired several shots at them, striking the female,” police said in a statement. “The female victim was transported to JPS Hospital by Hurst FD medics, where she was later pronounced deceased.”

Jones told KDFW-TV that he and Nunez Linares were on their way to work a night shift at Kelly-Moore Paints when the incident unfolded as he was trying to pass a car.

“I completed the pass. I got into the right lane, and he started to zoom past me,” JOnes told the station. “But then he leveled off when he got to me, and he like moved over, like pushing me but not touching me because I moved over too.”

That’s when Jones says he flipped off the other driver. He thought the driver was returning the gesture – and then realized it was a gun.

“He slowed down until we were about like that, and he shot through my back left window and hit my wife in the back of the head,” Jones said, adding that the driver fired at least three shots.

The two had just gotten married last year.

“Everybody loves somebody. Everybody is loved by somebody, but I love Paola,” he said.

Police are continuing to look for the person responsible for the shooting. There is no public description of the shooter, but their vehicle has been described as a “small, dark-colored older model car,” police said.
