  • Riverdale’s Exquisite Corpse to Be Brought Back From the Dead

Gotta bring this scream queen back!

Things that pose a threat to consume and destroy the human brain: (1) zombies; (2) the CW’s Riverdale; (3) a spinoff Riverdale about zombies. Disney+ is developing Afterlife With Archie, an apocalyptic hourlong drama written and produced by the same duo behind Riverdale and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti, per Deadline.

If you think that a zombie show about Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and the gang sounds random, you must be new here. For one, Afterlife With Archie will be based on an actual run of horror-themed Archie comic books written by Aguirre-Sacasa in 2013 and ’14. Furthermore, a zombie apocalypse wouldn’t even scratch the surface of weirdest things to happen in the fictional town of Riverdale. For example, a brief list of stuff far spookier than zombies that happened over the course of the show’s seven-season run:

Cult kidnappings, an organ-harvesting ring, ritualistic human sacrifice, a mass murderer called “The Black Hood,” a “Gargoyle King,” a “Mothman,” literally Satan, something called “the serial-killer gene,” a possessed doll containing the spirit of a triplet consumed in the womb, a twincest relationship featuring a rotting corpse, a juvenile-prison fight club, underage-tickle-fetish porn, Veronica developing pheromone-venom that kills her lovers, a Biblical plague upon the town’s firstborn, and musical numbers.

TV just hasn’t been the same since Riverdale went off the air in 2023. Disney+ can’t dig up that grave fast enough.

  • Talking small business success on the Southside: Raffensperger speaks with business owners in Clayton County

    [ad_1]

RIVERDALE, GA. – On Monday morning, the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce and City of Riverdale hosted a conversation between Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and local business owners. The event took place in a conference room inside the Riverdale Town Center. The roundtable was the first of similar conversations scheduled to take place as part of a small business information series.

Raffensperger was one of a small handful of white people in the room. Of the nearly 300,000 Clayton County residents, almost 70% are Black, according to data from the United States Census. The large majority of small business in Clayton County, the seventh largest county in the state, are Black-owned and operated.

There will be several high-profile elected offices up for grabs in 2026, including the officer of governor, so an appearance from Raffensperger in Clayton County is less typical than it would be during an election year.

Sitting beside Raffensperger at a table in the front of the room was Riverdale Mayor Dr. Evelyn Wynn-Dixon.

“I know you from the television and I want to make one thing clear, he’s an honest man,” Wynn-Dixon said of Raffensperger. “I want to let the people know he’s working for us.”

Riverdale City Manager Dr. Natasha Hampton introduced Raffensperger, and listed a number of his personal and professional accomplishments

Raffensperger said his office is taking part in similar local events in order to hear from voters and business owners. He spoke about free and fair elections

“One of the reasons we hold these roundtables is to give people hope,” Raffensperger said. “Did you know that Apple started with two guys in a garage.”

He said he is noticing a big push on a national level to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. He believes this is important in order for people to not only survive, but thrive.

“We need to make sure much of that comes back to Georgia,” he said.

Raffensperger shared stories of meeting his wife Trisha as a junior in high school, getting married in college, growing his small business, and the untimely death of one of their three sons to a Fentanyl overdose.

During his speech, Raffensperger mentioned programs created by his office and other state agencies to help small businesses. He used “She Leads”, a program for women-owned businesses, that are available for residents. Raffensperger also mentioned financial literacy programs for high school students, seniors, and military families.

The Secretary asked the crowd a question before taking questions.

“What could we do in Georgia to really help you power your business further?”

He took questions from Mayor Wynn-Dixon, local officials, and local business owners, including an owner of a child care consulting firm. A question on how artificial intelligence is affecting the workforce in Georgia.

“As a business owner I would encourage you to join your local chamber,” Raffensperger said. “As it relates to A.I., it’s going to affect some careers, for the good and the not so good.

The audience asked Raffensperger about how he made it from being in the construction business to local politics to statewide politics. He explained the timeline, and joked that his father didn’t like politicians, “But maybe he would forgive me since I was his son,” he joked.

“You can run for school board, you can run for city council,” Raffensperger said. “I highly recommend everyone to get a mentor. I think finding a mentor is invaluable.”

The topic of tariffs was also mentioned during Raffensperger’s speech. He was sure to mention that he was talking about back in 2003 under the George H.W. Bush administration and steel manufacturers as the businesses which were affected.

Raffensperger did not mention the tariffs being out in place under the current presidential administration, nor was he asked about it.

  • Missing Riverdale foreign exchange student found near Brigham City in case of ‘cyber kidnapping’

Missing Riverdale foreign exchange student found near Brigham City in case of ‘cyber kidnapping’

    [ad_1]

BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A missing and endangered 17-year-old Chinese foreign exchange student has been located and returned to his family, according to Riverdale City Police.

Kai Zhuang had been reported as kidnapped on Dec. 28 after his parents in China received a ransom demand for his safe return. The parents contacted school officials in his host city of Riverdale, where police said even the family he had been staying with did not know he was missing.

Tonight, Riverdale Police say that after a hunt that included multiple counties and even the FBI, Zhuang was found in a tent on a mountainside near Brigham City. Police said Zhuang was “very cold and scared,” and “relived to see police.” They’re calling his disappearance a “cyber kidnapping.”

    Cyber Kidnapping

Zhuang’s host family in Riverdale told police he had been home the night prior to his disappearance, and they hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. While they had heard him moving in the early morning hours on Dec. 28, they’d had no reason for concern.

While original police reports stated that it was possible Zhuang had been forcefully kidnapped, they stated in tonight’s press release that this had not been the case. In fact, Zhuang left the house on his own.

Meanwhile, Riverdale Police were teaming up with the FBI and the U.S. and Chinese embassies to find out more information. Investigators learned that Zhuang’s family had transferred around $80,000 to bank accounts in China after receiving threats from the kidnappers. The family had also received a photo of Zhuang, “and it appeared he was being held captive and was in danger,” according to Riverdale Police.

The FBI briefed investigators on several other recent similar cases they were referring to as “cyber kidnappings,” in which kidnappers target foreign exchange students. Chinese exchange students have been a specific target in these cases.

The kidnappers threaten both the family back in China and the student in their host country by telling each that the other is in danger. They demand ransom from the family while telling the student to isolate themselves, monitoring them via cell phone, including Facetime and/or Skype sessions. They convince the victim to take actions such as taking a photograph that makes it look like they’ve been held captive.

“The victims comply out of fear that their families will be harmed if they don’t comply with the cyber kidnappers,” said the Riverdale Police press release. “The cyber kidnappers continue to extort the family by using fear tactics, photos and voice recordings of the victim, leading the family to believe the kidnappers are with the victim, causing them harm.”

    The search and rescue

Riverdale Police said their investigation started with warrants for phone records, bank accounts, and transportation companies. Police looked at neighborhood surveillance footage to try to establish a timeline.

On Dec. 20, Provo Police reported they had met Zhuang attempting to go camping nearby, but they were worried for his safety and arranged to have him taken back to Riverdale. Though Zhuang did not tell Provo Police at the time, investigators say he was already being manipulated by the cyber kidnappers.

However, when Riverdale Police began their investigation on Dec. 28, they searched his host family’s home and could not locate the camping gear Zhuang had with him when he was found by Provo officers. Police later tracked Zhuang to the Brigham City area after analyzing purchases, looking at phone records and by pinging his phone.

“We believed the victim was isolating himself at the direction of the cyber kidnappers in a tent,” stated Riverdale Police. “Due to the cold weather in Utah at this time of year, we became additionally concerned for the victim’s safety in that he may freeze to death overnight.” In fact, Zhuang had no heat source in the tent when he was found.

He was located as drones from Weber County and the Utah DPS Aero Bureau began searching for his campsite. A Riverdale Police detective eventually found Zhuang in his tent in a wooded area in Brigham City canyon.

Zhuang was cleared of any potential medical dangers, including hypothermia. He only wanted to speak to his family to make sure they were safe “and requested a warm cheeseburger.”

    What should you do?

Riverdale Police say that if you are approached by cyber kidnappers, you should not give them any money and you should contact authorities immediately while stopping all communication with the criminals.

“I want foreign exchange students to know they can trust police to protect them and to work with police to ensure their safety as well as their family’s safety abroad,” said Riverdale Police Chief Casey Warren.

Investigators are continuing their search for the cyber kidnappers.

  • ‘May December’ Star Charles Melton on How ‘Riverdale’ Prepared Him for His Emotionally Complex Big-Screen Role

‘May December’ Star Charles Melton on How ‘Riverdale’ Prepared Him for His Emotionally Complex Big-Screen Role

    [ad_1]

Charles Melton is explaining how his six-year, almost 100-episode Riverdale run prepared him for his critically acclaimed supporting performance in Todd HaynesMay December, for which the actor is gaining serious Oscar buzz.

“Ten months out of the year, 22 episodes, eight to 10 days to film one episode … That’s a lot of work in a short amount of time, and it really took everybody on set to come together to execute this process,” Melton tells THR. “That experience alone, and working with nearly 100 directors on that show, really gave me this confidence and this foundation — as, like, my acting school in a way — to really be able to come to a set like Todd Haynes’ and just completely let go.”

The director, however, had never seen Riverdale, so Melton was an unfamiliar face to him when the actor auditioned for the role of Joe, a suburban dad who, when he was just 13 years old, became sexually involved with a married mother of three, Gracie (Julianne Moore). The scandalous romance rattled the pair’s close-knit community, but Joe and Gracie got married and had three children of their own.

Once he received the script, Melton started his “journey into the research of who Joe was,” says the actor, who discovered a process for preparation along the way. In pulling together his audition, he self-taped for six hours — a hefty time commitment, he acknowledges.

“I have to completely exhaust myself and give every fiber of my being, just so I could look back and be like, ‘OK, I gave everything I’ve got there, and there’s nothing else I would’ve done differently,’ ” says Melton. It got him through the door: Haynes sent him back notes. He self-taped again (for another six hours), which led to a chemistry read with Moore.

“I really felt like that six-week process was the best experience in my career, because I really learned how I wanted to work and how deep I wanted to go when it came to preparing to play characters like this, which was invigorating,” says Melton. “I felt so much comfort and safety and excitement of going really deep into the psychology of who this man was and really transformed into this physicality of how he navigated his own story.”

Melton gained 40 pounds for the role, although he and Haynes never discussed a certain way Joe was supposed to look. Melton calls it a “natural [and] external expression of the internal work I was doing with Joe. When you look at the facts, this is a suburban dad who’s 36 with three kids, a loving marriage, and has a job,” Melton explains. “Like, where does he really find time for his own vanity to really even look at himself?”

The actor ate a lot of Five Guys, pizza and ice cream alongside his best friend, Kelvin Harrison Jr., who was prepping to play Martin Luther King Jr. in Disney+’s Genius: MLK/X. “We were inspiring each other, watching a bunch of films, talking about our characters and eating well,” he says.

There was no rehearsal time before the 23-day shoot, so Melton didn’t practice his scenes with Natalie Portman, who in the film plays an actress portraying Gracie in a movie about her life. He often had dinners with Portman, Moore and Haynes, however, where they got to know each other on a “human level.”

Given the subject matter, Melton says his way to decompress after shooting was watching Abbott Elementary every day, as well as football on Sundays and the Japanese anime television series Demon Slayer. “That was part of my ritualistic comedown, and then I did acupuncture three times a week to really relax, because we carry emotions in our body. So keeping my body as calm and as relaxed as possible not only helped me, but helped what I would do when it came to allowing the technical work I did for Joe to really exist when I was on set.”

Looking back, Melton was never intimidated by the subject matter or his character’s complexities. “There’s just something about repression and tragedy and loneliness that I’m attracted to in characters, and Joe had a complex mix of all those things,” he says. “In spite of whatever the subject matter was, just understanding this human without any sort of formulated opinion or judgment and complete empathy really allowed me to just go to places that I always hoped are possible with Todd, Julie and Natalie.”

TV Shows That Should Have Ended After One Season

    [ad_1]

Many television shows take at least one season — in some cases, a few seasons — to truly hit their stride. It takes time to figure out what works, and what doesn’t. That first season is so crucial in establishing the series’ tone, pacing, and character relationships. As the show progresses, the hope is that each season will top the last. Every now and then, a series debuts with a phenomenal first season that gains attention right out of the gate. But that doesn’t mean it’s built to last — knowing when to end a series is an art within itself.

While there are some amazing TV shows that ended much too soon, there are others that overstayed their welcome on our screens. What’s more, there are even some series that would have probably been better off ending after Season 1. The past few years have shown us that an expertly crafted limited series can dominate the TV conversation just as much as an ongoing one. From Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit to Disney+’s WandaVision, there’s something powerful about a show that leaves its audience wanting more. But, there’s often pressure from studios to churn out more of a hit title, even if it wasn’t intended to be an ongoing series in the first place.

That’s how we end up with once brilliant shows that run past their expiration dates, with later seasons merely reminding viewers how good they used to be. While some stories are too complex to be reduced to a single season of television, others actually might have benefitted from a more concise structure. Here are ten TV shows that probably should have wrapped things up after their first season.

  • ‘Riverdale’ Final Season Trailer: Archie And His Pals Are Stuck In 1955, But The Pairings Will Shock You

‘Riverdale’ Final Season Trailer: Archie And His Pals Are Stuck In 1955, But The Pairings Will Shock You

    [ad_1]

    By Philiana Ng‍ , ETOnline.com.

“Riverdale” is taking a time warp back to 1955 to kick off its final season.

The CW’s outgoing drama dropped the official trailer for season 7 on Thursday, setting up the shenanigans that Archie (KJ Apa) and the crew will endure as they try to piece together what happened following last season’s finale. After facing off against Percival and narrowly missing a deadly comet, the gang was transported back to the ’50s, where they found themselves reliving high school… again.

Unfortunately for the crew, only Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is aware of all that transpired prior to their new 1955 reality.

As the two-minute trailer reveals, Jughead has the tall task of trying to convince his pals — who find themselves living very unexpected lives and paired up in the most shocking relationships — why they don’t actually belong in the ’50s. It all sounds a bit ridiculous, so it’s difficult to fault Archie and company for turning a blind eye to Jughead’s pleas.

“All of us, we were all sent back in time. We need to get back 67 years ago… but in the future,” Jughead proposes to his very confused group of friends.

“We’re juniors in high school. Life is good. Why would we go back?” Archie tells Jughead.

As Jughead tees up, things are a little different in this version of Riverdale: Betty (Lili Reinhart) is dating Kevin (Casey Cott), Veronica (Camila Mendes) is a Hollywood celebrity, Archie is getting married to Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch), Veronica and Jughead kissing(?!) by the fireplace, and Toni (Vanessa Morgan) riles Cheryl up through a stage performance.

And of course, it wouldn’t be “Riverdale” without some life-or-death stakes as Archie screams bloody murder as he’s tied down to a wooden table as a mysterious figure walks toward him with a power saw, Betty is seen foaming at the mouth at a school dance and a devastated Ethel (Shannon Purser) says something “terrible” has happened.

Watch the final season trailer above.

Last October, ET spoke with Reinhart about saying goodbye to Betty and “Riverdale”.

“It has a bittersweet feeling to it,” she said. “And I think I’m kind of just trying to approach this season with not taking anything for granted, really trying to be present, trying to enjoy my co-stars. So, it’s different for me at least.”

The actress revealed at the time that she doesn’t plan on taking anything specific from set — the experience of making it is enough for her.

“I don’t want to hoard anything,” Reinhart said. “I have literally, the episodes, the hundred-plus episodes that I’ve done, I don’t need anything physical. I’m taking the experience with me.”

  • Worst Celebrity Halloween Costumes: Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford? Or Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly?

Worst Celebrity Halloween Costumes: Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford? Or Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly?

    [ad_1]

Halloween: a holiday for spooky-themed debauchery. Its allure can partly be attributed to its unabashed celebration of our inner children. We’re encouraged to be creative. To carve pumpkins, dress up in costume, and revel in our shared silliness. We show off our interests — from our favorite characters and to our favorite memes — with our elaborate get-ups. Even if you opt for a minimal, last-minute, or outright “sexy” outfit — bunny ears or cat ears included — it’s all about the fun.

    Until it isn’t.

Halloween is also a night when people exploit this annual opportunity to dress up and cross a line. Racism reigns as people head to parties in offensive costumes, often including cultural appropriation or even Blackface. With the current alarming rise in public anti-semitism, more than a few Nazi costumes were out this year. And after the success of Netflix’s Dahmer, Jeffery Dahmer costumes are also concerningly abundant. Appalling.

There’s still a long way to go. But in the age of increased awareness, thankfully, we’re seeing less of these costumes in public — or at least on social media. Say what you will about cancel culture, but it makes people think twice before doing something stupid. And for that alone, I am grateful.

This especially applies to celebrities. Hopefully, we’re beyond the days of public apologies for blatantly offensive Halloween attire. But this Halloween, a couple of problematic celebrity costumes fell through the cracks. Now that we’re not distracted by as many celebs in Blackface, I guess we have the opportunity to dissect more nuanced costume faux pas.

    Let’s get into it:

First of all, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly. Hollywood’s most extra couple stepped out as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. After the success of the Hulu adaptation starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan, the pair’s fabled romance has been thrust back into the spotlight.

However, there are many things wrong with the Hulu series. For a show supposedly critical of the exploitation of female sexuality, it sure did a bunch of exploiting. The show allegedly examined the media’s power structures that fosters a sexist culture. Yet, those very same structures ignored Anderson’s perspective on the show.

Pamela Anderson was vocally against the show — not wanting to relive that part of her life. Especially seeing it glamorized on screen as some wacky, edgy adventure. And while Anderson herself has done some problematic Halloween costumes, it’s time to untangle her narrative from the media’s portrayal of it.

As if that weren’t bad enough, this revival again branded Pam and Tommy as just another volatile, rock-n-roll relationship. I’m sure you can see why it attracted Megan and MGK. However, what pop culture seems to have forgotten, is that Tommy Lee was convicted of physical assault against Pamela Anderson.

Like many people, MGK and Megan Fox may not have known about the domestic violence in the relationship. And that’s the problem. Rather than prioritizing Anderson’s voice and story, the culture has chosen to highlight a sensationalized version of events. Seems we didn’t learn much from Free Britney.

Excising their relationship’s abusive ending allows the story to live as a glamorized mythos. Ignoring the abuse while capitalizing on Anderson’s trauma reveals that popular culture still has a long way to go.

But Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox were not the only ones who made us cringe with their carelessly conceived costumes.

New couple Billie Eilish and Jesse Rutherford had one of the most controversial costumes of the weekend. The two sparked dating rumors a few weeks ago after being repeatedly spotted together.

Given their 11-year age difference, the internet had some thoughts. How old is Billie Eilish? Eilish is 20 — and turns 21 in December. While Rutherford — best known as the lead singer in The Neighborhood — is 32. Not a great look for the ‘Sweater Weather’ singer, who the internet has since been accusing of grooming.

Eilish has spoken about grooming and being taken advantage of by older men early in her career. So fans were surprised about this relationship. Meanwhile, other fans claim that this is the same age gap as Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde — why don’t they get the same hate?

Well, first of all, I’d compare this more to a Leonardo DiCaprio situation. In that instance, Camila Morrone was 21 and free to make the mistake of dating DiCaprio — a relationship that has now, thankfully, ended. But that didn’t make it any less creepy.

Our culture fetishizes younger women, and Eilish has felt this all of her career. So when older men pursue younger women, especially women in their early 20s whose brains literally haven’t fully developed, we’re right to be suspicious. It’s a concerning dynamic. But while we can be critical, it doesn’t help to infantilize Eilish and her decisions.

People gotta to learn the hard way, I guess.

However, the fledgling couple sparked ire this weekend with their Halloween getups. In an attempt to be self-aware about the gossipy conversations about their relationship, they dressed up as a baby and an old man. Gross.

Their exaggeration of the age difference is a pointed jab at the haters. But inadvertently, it’s making light of grooming as a phenomenon. So disappointing as Eilish has been vocal about the industry’s penchant for grooming. And while she’s free to make her own decisions and pursue her own relationships, this costume choice leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Like any concerning Halloween costume, this one ignores the larger social context. Downplaying the concept of grooming is not as funny as the pair thought. For any couple, going as a baby and an old man would be really-really disgusting. For this couple, it’s even more layered.

But luckily for us, this Halloweekend was actually full of great costumes, too.

For celebs, Halloween is an extreme sport. Not only do they have the money and resources to put together the most elaborate costumes — they’re also creatives. If anything, it’s their job to think outside of the box and perform! To entertain! To put on a show! And on Halloween, they deliver.

Now, as social media has upped its game, many celebs take their costume reveals as seriously as their baby reveals. They st up professional photo shoot pictures with extravagant sets with special effects and staging. These are a far cry from my blurry costume photos taken halfway through my nights out.

But I love the extraness! The production value! It’s camp!

So, as a palette cleanser, here are some of the best Halloween costumes from this weekend.

    Kali Uchis as Jessica Rabbit

    Hailey Bieber’s Runway Look

The Riverdale Girls as the Hocus Pocus Witches
