“In Denver, we experience all the seasons and there are times that I’m not exactly in the mood to put up decorations for a season coming up, so I either drink or eat something to get me in the right headspace for the change in weather,” says Will Curtin, owner of Banded Oak Brewing. “Summer time is grilling season, and I love an IPA with a hamburger. The bitterness of the beer paired with the richness of the burger makes me want to sit on a patio somewhere and enjoy the sun. Our brewery on Broadway has a good patio and a very tasty IPA.

Auraria neighborhood

Another fantastic venue to enjoy outdoor patio seating, live music on Saturdays, or a pre-event stop before heading to the Ball Arena nearby is Tivoli Brewing. Here, you can drink a taste of history at the oldest brewery in the state of Colorado. Founded in 1859 by German immigrant John Good, Tivoli predates Colorado’s statehood. After surviving prohibition, by shifting to producing low ABV “Cereal beers,” it became a major brewery until 1965 when flooding forced its closure. After reopening in 2012 with modernized equipment, Tivoli brings a new spark to the Colorado beer market. Tivoli is one of the fastest growing breweries in the country carrying its flagship beer, “Outlaw”, and a number of staples from the brewery.
