  • Sugar Reunite for New York and London Concerts, Share First Song in 30 Years

Sugar, the alt-rock band Bob Mould formed after Hüsker Dü’s split, have reunited. Back with their first music and shows in more than three decades, the band is gearing up for dates in May 2026 in London and New York, with Mould alongside original bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis. The new single, “House of Dead Memories,” is “a failed-relationship song, nothing too unique for me,” Mould told Rolling Stone in an interview about the reunion. “But the riff is definitely a Sugar-type riff, and it was fun to get the three of us on the floor together to record for the first time in ages.” Listen to it below.

Sugar had reconvened in 2011, around their 20th anniversary, Mould said in the Rolling Stone article. But “we all walked away thinking, ‘Eh, not right now.’ At least for me, it was like, ‘I think I’m going to do what I’m doing.’” That was his ongoing solo career—his latest LP was March’s Here We Go Crazy—but after regrouping in the studio last year, the trio decided the time was right.

Further activity depends on the response to the new music and shows, Mould added. “I don’t want to get out too far in front of the skis, as they say. People’s reactions will probably guide a lot of the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more songs or more shows. All three of us are all in for whatever feels right. I just want to see if people are still interested.”

The single is released by Granary Music and BMG. A new 4xLP reissue of the band’s debut album, titled Copper Blue – The Singles Collection, will come out next month for Record Store Day.

A Hüsker Dü live box set, 1985: The Miracle Year, is due out next month. Revisit Eric Harvey’s review of Sugar’s reissued albums Copper Blue, Beaster, and File Under: Easy Listening.

  • Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez ‘Not Getting Back Together BUT…’ – Perez Hilton

Sorry, y’all! Whatever hopes you might have been harboring about Bennifer 2.0 (er, 3.0?) should be officially dashed, because it is off the menu. But don’t go thinking the show is over just yet! While technically they’re dunzo in the romance department, these two Hollywood heavyweights are serving up some seriously friendly vibes that have tongues wagging!

So, wait, let’s go back a bit: the whole world knows that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rekindled their early 2000s magic by tying the knot in 2022. It was glam, glossy, and giving true love part deux. But fast forward to August of last year when the Waiting For Tonight singer filed for divorce, officially moving to forever close the chapter on their love. Sad face, right? Well, maybe not so fast…

Related: Jennifer Lopez Complains She Isn’t Taken Seriously As An Actress!

Just when we thought it was all courtroom drama and icy silences, the two turned up *together* on the red carpet for the Monday night premiere of J.Lo’s new film Kiss of the Spider Woman! And guys, they looked friendly AF! Like, really friendly. We’re talking shared laughs, cozy smiles, and red carpet posing like it’s 2002 again.

But don’t go planning a reunion tour yet! A source spoke to Us Weekly about the pair’s shocking red carpet closeness this week, and slammed the door HARD on any reconciliation possibilities:

“They are not getting back together but are in a great place and are able to communicate better and have a friendship.”

Hmmm… That “but” is doing a lot of heavy lifting! LOLz!!

TBH, tho, it’s giving amicable exes with history and not passionate rekindling. Which makes sense, because apparently getting to this chill zone wasn’t exactly easy-breezy. The source added:

“It took a lot of time for them to get to this place.”

Welp, sounds like through all the divorce difficulties of the recent past, at least now the vibes are good enough for Ben to show up at Jenny’s big night!

So why was Mr. Batman there, anyways? Nostalgia? A cryptic message to the world? Nope! Another source added:

“There is nothing going on between them. He went because he’s a producer.”

Duh! That’s right! Ben’s company Artist’s Equity (co-founded with his bestie Matt Damon, obvi), produced the film. So technically it was a work thing, as you might say. But that didn’t stop social media from losing their minds over seeing the exes share a laugh.

And they were so sweet, so respectful, and juuust close enough on that red carpet to keep us all on the edge of our seats. Sooo, y’all better stay tuned! Because with these two, you just never know…

  • James Van Der Beek Makes Surprise Appearance At Dawson’s Creek Reunion Amid Cancer Battle – Perez Hilton

James Ven Der Beek made a virtual visit to the Dawson’s Creek reunion.

The actor had to pull out of Monday’s event at the last minute due to “two stomach viruses” amid his cancer battle. It was a big disappointment for him and his fans as this whole event was organized to raise money for his cancer treatment, as well as for the org F**k Cancer.

Related: Tom Holland Suffers Head Injury While Filming Spider-Man Stunt! Oh No!

But James ended up making an unexpected appearance via a pre-recorded video near the start of the show, in which he apologized for missing the lovely class reunion, saying:

“I have been looking forward to this night for months and months and months, ever since my angel Michelle Williams said she was putting it together. I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to hug my cast mates, my beautiful cast, in person. I wanted to stand on that stage and thank every single person in this theater for being here tonight, from the cast to the crew to everybody who’s donated time and been so generous. And especially every single last one of you, the best fans in the world. Thank you for coming out.”

The 48-year-old then introduced his understudy for the live pilot reading, Lin-Manuel Miranda. He did his best to keep his spirits up for the video, but you can tell he was bummed. Take a look:

Aw! So sad he couldn’t be there.

In his absence, he sent his wife, Kimberly, and their six kids, Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 7, and Jeremiah, 3, to the reunion instead! At one point, when the cast sang the show’s theme song I Don’t Wanna Wait by Paula Cole, two of James’ daughters were given microphones and sang solos. Later, the whole family came out on stage to finish the song. So nice!

Kimberly said on social media on Sunday that it was super “important” to James that they attend. We’re glad they could make it!

James was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2023 and went public with it last November. Sending him lots of love and light as he continues to battle this nasty disease.

  • Watch Fifth Harmony Reunite at a Jonas Brothers Concert

Fifth Harmony reunited last night to make a surprise guest appearance at a Jonas Brothers concert, validating longstanding rumors that the group was set to make a return. Camila Cabello, who left the band in 2016, was, as expected, not part of the reunion, but Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, and Dinah Jane linked up to play “Worth It” and “Work From Home.” Watch fan footage of the whole appearance below, as well as a clip on Fifth Harmony’s social media.

Fifth Harmony went on hiatus in 2018, a few months after releasing their self-titled album. Normani, of course, embarked on what seemed to be a promising solo career—her debut album, Dopamine, arrived last year—and her bandmates Brooke and Jane sparked reunion hopes by collaborating on a cover of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” in 2023. The band apparently made progress on reunion talks this year, with dates mooted for 2026. Though that remains unconfirmed, the band has released merch reading “Where were you on August 31, 2025?” with a new Fifth Harmony logo, suggesting more activity may be imminent.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart to Reunite for Anniversary Tour in 2025

Roughly five years after breaking up, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart have announced a reunion tour celebrating the anniversary of their self-titled debut. The shows take place in Spain and Portugal in February and March of 2025. See the tour dates below.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s founder and frontman, Kip Berman, noted that next year’s concerts will feature keyboardist and vocalist Peggy Wang, drummer Kurt Feldman, and guitarist Christoph Hochheim, who will perform live together for the first time since 2012. He added that Eddy Marshall will fill in for bassist Alex Naidus, who can’t make the tour due to “(very good) personal things.”

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will play their debut record, as well as additional songs from that time period, in full during the trek. “I don’t know if we’ll be doing more (or less) of this in the future,” Berman wrote. “But for right now, we’re all excited to get this chance to be together and play these songs that, quite literally, changed our lives.”

Berman announced the band’s breakup in November 2019, ending their decade-plus run. He’s continued to release music under his solo moniker, the Natvral, with his latest album, Summer of No Light, landing last September.

  • So, About That Justin Timberlake Tease Of New *NSYNC Music… – Perez Hilton

So, About That Justin Timberlake Tease Of New *NSYNC Music… – Perez Hilton

*NSYNC fans, you’d better take a seat, because you’re not going to be thrilled about this news.

On Monday, Justin Timberlake stopped by the Kelly Clarkson Show where he seemingly teased that he and the boys were making new music together. As fans will remember, J.T., JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick came together last year to make their first song in over two decades for the movie Trolls Band Together, appropriately titled Better Place. And when speaking about said reunion, the Bad Teacher star teased:

“That was fun. It’s kind of crazy. There’s so much that picks up right where it left off as far as chemistry. We’ve been in the studio. So there may be a little something in the future.”

Related: How Britney Spears REALLY Feels About Justin’s New Music!

“We’ve been in the studio”?? So, like, either new *NSYNC music for Justin’s upcoming album, or for an album of their own?? Well, as it turns out, neither really are true…

On Wednesday, insiders at RCA Records told TMZ that the 43-year-old’s tease was strictly in reference to the boys recording BACKUP vocals for his upcoming album, Everything I Thought I Was

So, in other words, it sounds like it’s not a proper *NSYNC reunion! It all apparently happened when they came together for Better Place… But RCA Records was adamant that it’s not new *NSYNC, and if another reunion ever were to happen, it’d definitely be more of a collaboration of all of the guys rather than just mere backup vocals for JT’s work.

As for now, though, the outlet was told Justin is focusing solely on his own new music, which we all know struggled upon its debut. Some of that is because of Britney Spears fans, but RCA also suspects it could be because fans are just hungry for more *NSYNC.

Reactions, Perezcious readers??? Are you disappointed? Let us know in the comments down below!

  • ‘Groundhog Day’ Reunion Aims to Cure Chicago’s Wintertime Blues

‘Groundhog Day’ Reunion Aims to Cure Chicago’s Wintertime Blues

Navy Pier, like most Chicago restaurants and tourist attractions, struggles to attract business during winter. But one restaurant owner has an idea to address the problem. Grant DePorter is no stranger to stunts. The president and chief executive officer of Harry Caray’s has blown up a baseball and served it in spaghetti sauce. Last year, he even promoted the beloved baseball announcer in a campaign for mayor (of Rush Street).

Now, he’s celebrating the life of one of the restaurant’s partners, legendary filmmaker and comedian Harold Ramis. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Ramis’ death, and the city of Chicago is prepping to declare Friday, February 2 — Groundhog Day — as Harold Ramis Day. Ramis is responisble for hits like Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, and Groundhog Day. The latter is the 1993 comedy starring Bill Murray.

DePorter and the rest of the staff at Harry Caray’s Tavern at Navy Pier are prepping a special event on the date. DePorter has spent the last few weeks gathering artifacts and props to throw a Groundhog Day ceremony that would make his friend proud. He’s even procured the Armani coat Murray wears in most of the movie and has commissioned a 150-pound tree stump. Movie producer Erica Mann Ramis, the director’s wife, will also appear at the event.

“I’m just trying to get people excited in February to give people a reason to come to Downtown Chicago,” DePorter says.

The restaurant world is slow during the winter in Chicago. Weather forecasters put folks on edge with their storm alerts, warning folks about snow that sometimes never comes. And that leads to empty dining rooms and cancelations. There’s also a sometimes negative perception of Chicago coming from the suburbs. These are challenges that restaurant owners around town have expressed frustration to Eater Chicago about.

Events like this aim to combat those hurdles. Ald. (2nd Ward) Brian Hopkins and Ald. (42nd Ward) Brendan Reilly are expected with the latter reading the proclamation. Meanwhile, several actors from the movie will appear — including Brian Doyle Murray (Buster Green), David Pasquesi (the Psychiatrist), and Peggy Roeder (the Piano Teacher). But the real star of the show is the groundhog; the fuzzy critter holds the fate of Chicago’s winter by whether or not it sees its shadow. Groundhog Day is a popular event in Woodstock, Illinois. And that’s where DePorter found a groundhog handler to provide the animal for next month’s event.

The average lifespan of a groundhog is 12 to 14 years in captivity. So, alas, the same groundhog from the movie is no longer available. There is a chance the stand-in is a distant relative; DePorter says they’re using the same handler that was used in the movie.

Harry Caray’s will also serve food and drink inspired by Tip Top Cafe, the restaurant featured in the movie, where Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell repeatedly dine. DePorter says when word got out about the tribute to Ramis, several Ghostbusters fans reached out and pledged to show up in full costume. DePorter says he owns the jumpsuits worn by Bill Murray and Ramis in the original movie.

For anyone placing a bet if the groundhog will see its shadow, DePorter has no inside information.

“All I can say is that we’re not sticking to the script,” he says.

“Groundhog Day’ reunion and Harold Ramis Day, 3 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at Harry Caray’s Tavern Navy Pier, 700 E. Grand Avenue.

Power Trip Reunite in Texas for Surprise Set

Power Trip reunited in their home state of Texas on Friday night (December 1), stepping in as surprise headliners for a show with the crossover thrash band Fugitive at Mohawk in Austin. Power Trip guitarist Blake Ibanez co-founded Fugitive last year, and the group’s touring lineup currently includes Power Trip’s Nick Stewart. It’s the first performance from Power Trip since the death of bandleader Riley Gale three years ago. Joining the band on vocals was Skourge’s Seth Gilmore, who also plays in Fugitive. Watch fan-shot footage of the performance below.

Though there were only four songs printed on the setlist for the evening—“Soul Sacrifice,” “Executioner’s Tax,” “Hornet’s Nest,” and “Manifest Decimation”—the reunited Power Trip also played “Crucifixation” at the very end. “It’s been a long time coming,” Ibanez said early in the set, before shouting out Gilmore for filling in on vocals.

Gale died unexpectedly at age 34 in August 2020, which Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office later confirmed was the result of toxic effects from fentanyl. Later in the year, Gale was honored as the namesake of a new library at the Dallas Hope Center, the city’s one shelter for LGBTQ+ youth. Just a few weeks prior to Gale’s death, Power Trip released Live in Seattle 05.28.18, which they’d recorded while touring with Sheer Mag.

  • Russia’s war in Ukraine gatecrashes EU-Latin America reunion

Russia’s war in Ukraine gatecrashes EU-Latin America reunion

A row between EU and Latin American countries over how — or even whether — to mention the war in Ukraine risks turning what was meant to be the celebration of a renewed partnership into a diplomatic failure.

The first day of a summit between the EU and the Community of the Latin American & the Caribbean States (CELAC) was all about affirming strengthened intercontinental ties. But the lofty talk quickly fell flat as EU negotiators tried to convince Latin American countries to condemn Russia over its war in Ukraine.

Nicaragua and Cuba vehemently opposed the proposed language on Ukraine, according to three EU officials — with one alleging that these two countries had received calls from Moscow advising them to do so.

The row in Brussels came just as Russia refused Monday to extend a U.N.-brokered deal that had allowed Ukraine to export its grain surplus through the Black Sea. Both were stark reminders of how Russia’s hybrid geopolitics seeks to drive a wedge between the rich, pro-Ukrainian West and the rest of the world.

Despite several rounds of negotiations on a joint declaration which leaders could sign off on, there was still no agreement on Monday evening — with some officials fearing that the two-day summit could fail to produce any joint declaration at all.

“I confirm that we are still discussing the text of the communiqué,” said European Council President Charles Michel on Monday afternoon, in an attempt at damage control. “And it means something. It means that we want on both sides an ambitious text.”

An EU diplomat said at the end of Monday’s meeting that “negotiations will go down to the finishing line.” Haggling over the text “does not put the summit into jeopardy — for now.”

    Credibility on the line

Failing to agree a joint declaration would deal a blow to the EU’s credibility at a time when it is seeking to unify voices at the U.N. and beyond in support of Ukraine against a belligerent Russia. Brussels is also trying to become best buddies with Latin America again in the face of an assertive China that is winning market share on the other side of the Atlantic.

“If Russia were to lay down its arms, there would be peace. If Ukraine were to lay down its arms, there would be no more Ukraine,” said Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņs, whose country borders Russia.

“Maybe from a more distant area, it’s not so obvious to understand,” Kariņš added in a clear dig at CELAC countries.

Latest versions of the documents, seen by POLITICO dated July 7 and July 13, showed that the language on Ukraine had been watered down, going from “strongly” condemning Moscow’s “violating” Ukraine’s sovereignty, to just “expressing concern” on the war in Ukraine.

Asked about the holdup, Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina said: “I believe that it is part of this process to find, in this dialogue, a way out that respects the visions of both the EU and CELAC and each of its members.”

Ukraine was not the only contentious issue, with the draft communiqué resembling a shopping list, after each capital pushed to mention their national priorities, such as colonial reparations or the Malvinas islands, over which Argentina and the United Kingdom — which is no longer an EU member — fought a short war 40 years ago.

Youth Lagoon Announces New Album Heaven Is a Junkyard, Shares Video for New Song

Seven years after retiring the project, Trevor Powers has announced his first new album as Youth Lagoon since 2015’s Savage Hills Ballroom. Heaven Is a Junkyard is out June 9 via Fat Possum. Watch the Tyler T. Williams–directed video for the lead single “Idaho Alien” below.

Following Savage Hills Ballroom, Powers released two albums (described in a new press release as “experimental tapes”) under his own name: 2018’s Mulberry Violence and 2020’s Capricorn. In a statement, Powers reflected on his decision to halt Youth Lagoon in 2016. “I felt like I was in a chokehold,” he said in a statement. “Even though it was my music, I lost my way. In a lot of ways, I lost myself.”

The revival of the project came after an over-the-counter drug reaction caused eight months of harm to Powers’ larynx and vocal cords, temporarily silencing his voice. “I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be able to speak again, let alone sing,” he added. “It all felt symbolic in a way…. I’d been swallowing fear all my life and now here it was coming back up.”

Heaven Is a Junkyard is about all of us,” Powers said. “It’s stories of brothers leaving for war, drunk fathers learning to hug, mothers falling in love, neighbors stealing mail, cowboys doing drugs, friends skipping school, me crying in the bathtub, dogs catching rabbits, and children playing in tall grass.”

Watch Unwound’s First Official Reunion Show

After a 20-year-long hiatus, Unwound played the first official show of their reunion tour last night (February 3) at the Showbox in Seattle, Washington. The setlist spanned 18 songs in total, including material from their albums Leaves Turn Inside You, Fake Train, New Plastic Ideas, and Repetition, among others. Watch their full performance below, as filmed by fan Steve Boyle.

As promised when Unwound announced their reunion, Jared Warren of Karp and Melvins filled in for Vern Rumsey, Unwound’s original bassist, who died in 2020. In an interview with Pitchfork, drummer Sara Lund explained that the band chose Warren for the role because of his longtime friendship with everyone in Unwound. “To do this tour with Jared just feels right,” she said. “It really feels like a good way to honor Vern, even though every inch of me wishes that it could have been with him in the first place.”

Last week, the influential post-hardcore band announced a surprise “warm-up” show at AAMC Ballroom in Astoria, Oregon to prepare for the tour. That ticketed event was limited to 200 people and videos were not allowed, reported Paste

Unwound will stay on the road through March for their reunion tour, playing shows in Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City. The tour will conclude with two shows at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, the last of which takes place on March 16.

  • The Year Is Nearly Over, But You Still Have 10 Game Releases To Look Forward To

The Year Is Nearly Over, But You Still Have 10 Game Releases To Look Forward To

Fantasy medieval game Blacktail, Krakow-based studio The Parasight’s debut, lets you play as folktale witch Baba Yaga in her bow-and-arrow-carrying youth. You command her fate, if she’s a good witch or a bad witch, depending on how you navigate the magical, dangerous forest she roams.

“When living memories of her past return as foul, walking spirits,” Blacktail’s website says. “Yaga is faced with no other option than to hunt them down in hopes of unraveling her own mystery.”

I’m excited by Blacktail’s premise—I’m a former little kid with vivid imagined memories of Baba Yaga’s gnarled hands and battered cabin in the woods. Though, I am a little annoyed that Yaga’s voice actress sounds British despite the character growing up isolated from everyone except, like, early Belarusians. I’m hoping the game’s story is so mythic and compelling that I’m distracted by the Anglo-Saxon intrusion.

    Release date: December 15

Compatible with: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5

What 2022 game release are you most looking forward to? Or are you keeping your sights set squarely on next year?
