A manhunt has ended Wednesday with police taking a suspect into custody who is accused of killing a man inside a home in Reston, Virginia.

Drones, a helicopter and K-9s scoured a neighborhood in search of a man who Fairfax County police allege was behind the shooting.

Marvin Fernando Morales-Ortez, 23, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and a gun was recovered at the scene, according to a social media post from police.

Police Chief Kevin Davis said the suspect fatally shot another man inside a home in the 12300 block of Fan Shell Court, then fled the area on a bicycle. That neighborhood is near the intersection of the Dulles Access Road and Fairfax County Parkway.

Morales-Ortez’s last known address was the home where the shooting took place in a neighborhood near the intersection of the Dulles Access Road and Fairfax County Parkway.

Police believe the man who was killed lived in the home, Davis said.

“They probably have resided in the same house, either now or at some time in the past before,” Davis said during a news conference. “So logically, to assume that they know each other and are familiar with each other is a safe bet to make.”

There’s no word yet on motive.

The man who was fatally shot has not been identified, Davis said.

At the time of the news conference, Davis said police were working to get an arrest warrant for Morales-Ortez.

Before police found Morales-Ortez, Davis said, “We need to put handcuffs on a person who just shot and killed another human being inside of a home in this residential community, and that’s what we’re working really hard to do.”

Police released on social media a picture of Morales-Ortez and cast a “wide net” in their search, Davis said.

The police chief said Morales-Ortez was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Five Fairfax County Public Schools in the area were placed on “secure the building” status as police searched for Morales-Ortez, the school system told WTOP in a statement. That means students and staff were asked to remain inside those schools and dismissals were delayed until police could determine it’s safe.

A 43-year-old Chantilly man was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of murder after a brazen daytime shooting inside a Northern Virginia gym.

Fairfax County police said Steve Taehee Ha was taken into custody less than eight hours after he shot and killed Hyung Joon Choi, 31, at the Gold’s Gym in the 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston just before 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Choi, of Reston, was shot multiple times in the upper body while working out inside the gym. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Ha was also exercising when he came up to Choi in a “targeted stance” and shot him, Capt. Kent Bailey, with Fairfax County police, said during a news conference Tuesday. Ha was then seen fleeing the gym right after the shooting.

Bailey said the shooting appeared to be an “isolated, targeted incident,” rather than a random act of violence inside the gym.

In addition to second-degree murder, Ha has also been charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He’s being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond, police said.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and asked anyone with information to call 703-246-7800 or submit a tip anonymously through crime solvers.

A man was shot dead while working out inside Gold’s Gym in Reston, Virginia, on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a search involving a helicopter and K-9 units.

The shooting happened at the Gold’s Gym in the 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Drive near the intersection of Reston Parkway and the Dulles Access Road, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“Both the victim and suspect in this case were both working out inside the local gym when our suspect approached our victim in a targeted stance and shot him,” Capt. Kent Bailey, with FCPD’s Public Affairs Bureau, said.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bailey described the shooting as an “isolated, targeted incident.” Police are still looking into the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the man who was shot, and what motivated the shooting.

Police said they’re looking for a suspect described as a heavyset man between the ages of 25 and 30, wearing glasses, a black shirt, black pants and a large “swing bag.” He was last seen running toward Reston Parkway, police said.
