    The American Gaming Association (AGA) released new research providing an in-depth examination of diversity in the gaming industry workforce. The results show that the gaming industry is more diverse than national and hospitality industry benchmarks and boasts a diverse executive pipeline, while identifying opportunities on gender representation. 

    AGA President and CEO Bill Miller, said: “Consumers, policymakers and investors are raising their expectations for all businesses on how they contribute to society beyond the bottom line.”

    He explained that encompassing data from across commercial, tribal and manufacturing gaming verticals, the survey “both highlights our industry’s leadership on diversity while presenting areas for continued progress.”

    Results show tangible results of the industry’s broad reach and representation of local communities. 61% of gaming industry employees are minorities, compared to 52% of the broader hospitality industry and 42% of the total US workforce.

    23% of gaming employees are Hispanic and 19% are black, both higher than the national workforce and in line with the hospitality industry. 60% of operator employees are minorities, up nearly 20% from 2011 and higher than the hospitality sector and national workforces overall. 

    45% of gaming manufacturer employees are minorities, compared to 38% of the broader electronic manufacturing workforce. 

    Across job levels, gaming’s leadership pipeline is significantly more diverse than national averages at the first/mid-level manager and professional levels: 45% of first/mid-level managers are minorities while 43% of professionals are minorities, both 10 to 12 points above national and hospitality benchmarks.

    Gender diversity presents an opportunity for the industry. Gaming’s workforce is 48% female, in line with national workforce, but representation drops off at more senior level job classifications. 

    “As today’s report shows, our industry has made impactful strides toward becoming more diverse, but there is more work to do. The AGA will use this research to engage our membership on how we can collectively advance DEI in gaming in the months and years to come.”

    Over half of UK gamblers view the money in their accounts with betting websites as different from the money in their bank account, new research from BetMGM reveals.

    To mark Safer Gambling Week in the UK, BetMGM surveyed UK residents who have placed a bet or gambled within the last 12 months, with 51% of them saying they see money in gambling accounts differently from their personal funds.

    Despite the money holding the same value no matter where it is held, the research highlights that there is an innate awareness of its true value. 

    Further highlighting this and the need for greater education and awareness around gambling, 19% admitted they usually or always chase their gambling losses, while 14% do not view their winnings as “real money.”

    However, there is a positive trend among younger players, with those aged between 18-34 more likely (92%) to put a monetary restriction on their betting to ensure their safety.

    In a press statement, BetMGM reaffirmed that it is committed to promoting safer gambling and providing an experience that is safe and enjoyable for all players, noting that it undertook this research to educate the public about gambling habits and how to stay responsible while betting.

    Sam Behar, UK Director at BetMGM, said: “The industry has come on leaps and bounds in the past decade – we know so much more about responsible gambling and everyone at BetMGM is devoted to ensuring our customers play safely. We’re a huge supporter of Safer Gambling Week but it is something that is core to our business throughout the year.

    We’re delighted to see the growing use of responsible gambling with younger players throughout the UK, but there is always more that can be done. We are striving to improve and introduce new methods to help potential problem gamblers.

    “To those who have admitted chasing their losses and those who view the funds in their betting accounts as different to that of their bank accounts, we implore them to see that money as having real-world value.”

    BetMGM highlighted that it has tools in place to support players who are feeling uncomfortable about their gambling, including human customer support available 24/7. Also in place are deposit, loss, session and wagering limits, self-exclusion and ad-limiting tools as well as access to services like therapy, support groups and financial blocks.

    Key findings from the report include:

    • 51% of UK gamblers view the money in their gambling accounts as different from that in their bank accounts
    • 92% of players 18-24 put monetary restrictions on their gambling
    • 46% put money won from gambling into their savings
    • 26% use gambling winnings to place another bet straight away
    • 19% always or usually chase their gambling losses
