  • The ‘Dynamic Duo’ Movie Is Having a Casting Call Next Week

    DC Studios is putting out a public casting call for its upcoming Batman-adjacent feature Dynamic Duo, and anyone can try out.

    Next Saturday, November 15, animation studio Swaybox will look at online auditions to work as a performer for the puppet-animated flick. The video below shows the work will entail controlling characters or items by yourself or with a team and in front of a blue or green screen. Though Swaybox has mainly put the call out to fans of “film, comics, animation, and puppetry,” it stressed there’s “no experience necessary.” All you’ll need to audition is “a ruler and a way to film yourself,” and the tryout will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT.

    Dynamic Duo centers on Batman’s first two Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, who are early into their superhero careers as the film opens. Notably, the film is produced by Matt Reeves, though it’s said to be completely disconnected from his live-action The Batman universe. It’s also been described as a mix between “CG, practical stop-motion, and live-action real-time performances,” similar to Laika’s Coraline. (That studio’s next feature, Wildwood, also seems to employ similar filmmaking techniques.)

    If you think you’ve got what it takes to be part of the Swaybox crew, you can audition on Saturday, November 15. For everyone else, Dynamic Duo hits theaters June 30, 2028.

  • ‘Red Hood’ Writer Speaks Out on Book’s Surprise Cancellation

    Earlier this week, DC Comics abruptly cancelled its new Red Hood comic from trans writer Gretchen Felker-Martin and artist Jeff Spokes. The decision came after Felker-Martin posted comments and jokes on social media about the assassination of prominent right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, which occurred on the same day—September 10—as the comic’s launch. DC Comics said in a statement that social media posts “that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with [our] standards of conduct.”

    Now, in a new interview with the Comics Journal, Felker-Martin opened up about her posts and DC’s decision. She argued that DC had had no issue with her outspoken and sometimes incendiary social media presence when it approached her about doing a comic in 2024.

    She recalled how she told the publisher at the time that it would “get between five and a hundred of the craziest people you’ve ever met in your life, screaming for my head and yours.” She went on to say that initially DC had given her “no terms or limitations” on her social media; a DC spokesperson reiterated to io9 the company’s previous stance on not abiding by posts that “promote hostility or violence.”

    In the weeks leading up to Red Hood’s launch, past social media posts made by Felker-Martin on charged political topics, including the Israel-Gaza war, resurfaced. Felker-Martin told the Comics Journal that it was at this point that she received pushback on her social media activities; a spokesperson for DC confirmed this to the Comics Journal, saying the company requested Felker-Martin be more mindful of her online statements. Felker-Martin claimed she generally abided by that request until the day of Kirk’s murder.

    The author said she stood by her comments about Kirk while expressing sympathy for her Red Hood co-creators, which include Spokens, cover artist Taurin Clarke and editors Arianna Turturro and Rob Levin. “I can only put it down to really just a moment of poor impulse control,” she told the Comics Journal. “Had I thought for another second, of course I would’ve known [that it would be a problem for DC], and naturally, as soon as I had said it, I did know.”

    Felker-Martin also stressed that she did not want to work with DC Comics in the future: “I have no desire to be part of any organization that wants to pretend that people like Charlie Kirk are decent human beings who deserve respect.”

    The many iterations of the Suicide Squad have changed up the crew line-up, expanding the classic dynamics from the original comic series. Kill the Justice League is one of those entries that have recently altered the course, made up of King Shark, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang.

    Although the team already makes for a great ensemble, some DC fans can’t help but wish for more. This has led them to develop potential ideas for the game’s sequel (if it does actually happen.)

    The most popular suggestion is the incorporation of Red Hood, also known as Arkham Knight and Jason Todd. He’s become one of the most beloved characters in the franchise due to his heartbreaking storyline. Though, the funny thing is that he first started out as the most-hated Robin in the early days, resulting in his demise in the ’80s.

    That has since changed, especially when Jason made his video game debut as the Arkham Knight. Now, fans can’t get enough of him, and he’s even claimed the title of my favorite character in the Batman universe. So, due to his dedicated fanbase, Kill the Justice League players have established a few unique ways to get him in the sequel, including a narrative where Red Hood kills the Suicide Squad.

    Sounds pretty crazy, but isn’t that what the Suicide Squad is all about? We didn’t think it was possible for the Justice League to turn evil, yet here we are.

    But if the mission to kill the Suicide Squad sounds too far-fetched to you, then maybe Todd could join the team instead. It’s not like he hasn’t done it before in the comics, with the likes of the Get Joker! storyline.

    Alternatively, fans have desired a Red Hood DLC as an additional side narrative. Batman: Arkham Knight has done this in the past, so the idea could come to fruition.

    Fortunately, Red Hood lovers did get some teasers in Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Without spoiling too much, there are various mentions of Jason and his Arkham Knight alter-ego. It’s something to hold us over until we hopefully get a DLC, sequel, or maybe even an all-out game just for him.
