  • Rebel Wilson Speaks Out on ‘The Deb’ Controversy: “I Was a Whistleblower”

    [ad_1]

Rebel Wilson is opening up about facing a slew of lawsuits and allegations surrounding her directorial debut The Deb.

While appearing on 60 Minutes Australia, the actress reflected on how the ordeal has been like a “worst nightmare.”

“It came out of left field these issues and yeah it was horrible to deal with and I had to try to navigate it professionally,” she said.

60 Minutes Australia had visited the set of The Deb at the time it was filming. An adaptation of an Australian stage play of the same name, Wilson’s directorial debut follows a city girl who moves to the outback and helps her cousin become a debutante.

After noting that everything seemed to be running smoothly, Wilson was asked “what went wrong” to which Wilson alleged that the day prior to their set visit, she and local producers were “locked in a room” and “forced to sign documents.”

Wilson alleges that the drama “stemmed from the U.K. producers on the film” and that she was “the target of incessant bullying and harassment” because she had spoken out about the “behavior” of the U.K. producers.

Last year, Wilson said that she had reported the producers when she “found out not minor things, big things” related to “inappropriate behavior towards the lead actress of the film,” Charlotte MacInnes, and theft of movie funds. Wilson posted a video to Instagram last summer accusing producers Amanda Ghost, Gregory Cameron and Vince Holden of embezzlement and sexual harassment.

“I felt, in my position as director, I had to report that and the moment I did started all the kind of retaliation against me,” Wilson said. The actress recalled MacInnes telling her that producer Amanda Ghost made her feel “uncomfortable” after asking her to have a “bath and shower” with her after Ghost had a “medical reaction” to the cold water while filming at Bondi Beach.

However, MacInnes has denied that account and is suing Wilson for defamation.

“All I can say is she came to me, she made what I obviously inferred as a sexual harassment complaint and I had a duty to then act on it,” Wilson said. She also explained that despite texting Ghost that MacInnes clarified that it was a “bizarre situation” and that it didn’t make her uncomfortable, Wilson was trying to “maintain professional communication” with Ghost, especially given the producer was “access to money for the film.”

“But at the same time, I’m feeling very uneasy,” Wilson added.

Wilson also alleges that the U.K. producers tried to siphon nearly a million dollars from the film’s budget and wouldn’t let the film premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

Wilson said their argument that they couldn’t release the film because of their ongoing issues with her is “absolute rubbish” and was because “they knew it would be good for me as a first-time female director to have that profile and they blocked it as part of their retaliation against me speaking up against them.”

At the time, Wilson had shared these thoughts on her social media saying that she saw that as her “standing up for my movie and the hard work that everybody put into it for years.”

The producers eventually released the film so it could be shown at TIFF. However, they, in turn, sued for defamation, saying that Wilson lied in a maneuver to release The Deb at the coveted closing spot of the TIFF and secure a writing credit. The actress later filed a countersuit doubling down on accusations of theft and sexual misconduct.

After a series of websites painted Ghost as a “sex trafficker,” Wilson said she had “zero to do with the websites.”

“I don’t even know how to create a website. I had nothing to do with what was on it,” Wilson argued. When further questioned about the allegations that she pointed her followers to the websites, posted on The Deb instagram and made sure Ghost’s associates were made aware of them, Wilson said, “I don’t have any memory of doing that, no.”

“It’s wild it’s gotten to this point,” Wilson said of the ongoing allegations. “I think it’s a ridiculous waste of the Australian legal system.”

When speaking further on MacInnes, Wilson reiterated that she didn’t initially identify MacInnes by name and the actress chose to make statements and identify herself. Wilson also responded to her post alleging that the actress changed her story to help further her career, noting that the actress was given the lead role in another production and has a record label all from the producer of The Deb.

“I believe her only work since The Deb was a role in a stage show that Amanda Ghost produced,” Wilson explained. Despite believing she’s “talented,” Wilson argues that “it’s undeniable the benefits she has received since finishing filming the film.”

“This is a situation where I was a whistleblower. I stood up when it was important to stand up and say something,” Wilson said.

Rialto Distribution has acquired the rights for The Deb in Australia and New Zealand, with plans for a wide theatrical release in January.

  • ‘The Deb’ Review: Rebel Wilson’s Directorial Debut Is a Campy, Mixed-Bag Teen Musical

‘The Deb’ Review: Rebel Wilson’s Directorial Debut Is a Campy, Mixed-Bag Teen Musical

    [ad_1]

When Maeve (Charlotte MacInnes) gets suspended from school after a political demonstration backfires, her mother (Susan Prior), who also happens to be the institution’s principal, sends the Sydney teenager to live with her cousin Taylah (Natalie Abbott) in the Australian outback.

Dunburn, the fictional locale in which Rebel Wilson’s uneven directorial debut The Deb is set, is a small town recovering from a years-long drought and dereliction of duty by national ministries. The local government desperately needs money to maintain their water supply and have resorted, in one of the film’s more humorous gags, to making a viral video to bring attention to their plight. Of course, none of these issues concern Maeve, who arrives in Dunburn already plotting her escape.

    The Deb

    The Bottom Line

Overstuffed with both good and bad.

Venue: Toronto International Film Festival (Gala Presentations)
Cast: Rebel Wilson, Shane Jacobson, Tara Morice, Natalie Abbott, Charlotte MacInnes, Julian McMahon
    Director: Rebel Wilson
Screenwriters: Hannah Reilly, Meg Washington, Rebel Wilson

    2 hours 1 minute

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Deb chronicles Maeve’s fish-out-of-water adventures in Dunburn. Upon arrival, the cosmopolitan teen loudly rejects the town’s regressive traditions. In particular, Maeve bemoans the annual debutante ball, which Taylah dreams of attending. She can’t understand why her cousin would submit herself to such retrograde pomp and circumstance. Soon, of course, Maeve realizes that she can’t so easily write this small town or its people off.

The Deb is based on the well-received stage musical of the same name by Hannah Reilly (who returns to write the screenplay) and Meg Washington (who serves as an executive producer). It’s a campy movie musical whose cultural self-awareness when it comes to teenage life might draw comparisons to this year’s Mean Girls musical adaptation but whose narrative owes much to Muriel’s Wedding. Taylah, like Muriel, is a big-hearted country girl who dreams of love and social acceptance — the kind of underdog screen protagonist who has become more common since P.J. Hogan’s 1994 film premiered at TIFF.

Whereas Muriel wanted to get married, Taylah wants to find a date to the debutante ball, a tradition that makes her feel closer to her deceased mother. Her transformation and friendship with Maeve drive most of the film’s action and offer a heartwarming, if predictable, relationship to root for. It helps that MacInnes (who played Maeve in the stage production) and Abbott fully embrace their characters and the exaggerations required of the movie musical. Their performances, as well as a handful of others including Shane Jacobson as Taylah’s father Rick and Tara Morice as a local tailor, soften the film’s more glaring contrivances.

Outside of the acting, which leans into the ridiculous and amplifies the campy nature of the film, The Deb struggles in its translation to the screen. The music is contemporary pastiche — riffing on different genres and arranged in ways that recall the Pitch Perfect covers — and although a handful are memorable, thoughts of many fade with the credits. Wilson’s direction is similarly uneven, especially toward the middle of the film, which packs in convenient plot points to distract from narrative thinness. The result is off-kilter pacing that threatens to undo the film’s more successful parts.

Like this year’s Mean Girls, The Deb does successfully play with the tools of the social media age, adjusting the aspect ratio to mimic iPhones and incorporating the use of platforms like TikTok or Instagram into its storytelling. The film opens with a bullish pop number (one of the movie’s strongest) introducing Maeve’s world at an elite private school in Sydney. The new teenage experience involves documenting every aspect of their lives and engaging in Plastics-like mocking and cruelty.

The catch, of course, is that all of these students are hyper-attuned to injustice so they always punch up instead of down. Maeve’s popularity — both IRL and online — stems from her outspokenness on feminist issues. But she’s also a classic bully, and after one of her political acts goes awry, her classmates are more than eager to obliterate her reputation. In the spirit of the most high-profile cancellations of the 21st century, Maeve retreats from public life to reflect.

The country air doesn’t suit our chronically online city girl, so from the moment Maeve arrives in Dunburn, she begins plotting her departure. She plans to make her great return to Sydney with a podcast that chronicles her small-town life and begins recording all of her interactions. She ropes in Taylah, making her journey to the deb ball the main narrative, and interviews the resident mean girls, Danielle (Brianna Bishop), Chantelle (Karis Oka), Annabelle, (Stevie Jean) and Annabelle’s mother Janette (played by Wilson), a beautician who makes Regina George seem angelic. As Maeve zips around town investigating, she’s also pursued by a bad boy named Mitch (Hal Cumpston), whom we never learn all that much about.

A significant portion of The Deb’s plot revolves around Maeve keeping the true intentions of her podcast a secret while forming a genuine friendship with Taylah, but there are other narratives stuffed into this film. One involves the fate of Dunburn, which is in desperate need of government funds, and the other concerns a will-they-or-won’t-they romance between Rick and Shell (Morice), the town’s tailor. These threads are introduced with confident set pieces and catchy tunes that accompany decent choreography, but the balance is lost once the plot lines require more involvement. Despite its 2-hour runtime, parts of The Deb can feel frustratingly shallow.

That could be forgiven if the rest of the movie meaningfully cohered, but it doesn’t. The Deb, much like Maeve’s experience in Dunburn, is ultimately a mixed bag.

  • Rebel Wilson’s Memoir to Be Published in U.K. With Sacha Baron Cohen Allegations Redacted

Rebel Wilson’s Memoir to Be Published in U.K. With Sacha Baron Cohen Allegations Redacted

    [ad_1]

Rebel Wilson‘s memoir “Rebel Rising” will be published in the U.K. with redacted passages about her experience working with Sacha Baron Cohen.

“We are publishing every page, but for legal reasons, in the U.K. edition, we are redacting most of one page with some other small redactions and an explanatory note,” publisher HarperCollins told The Guardian in a statement. “Those sections are a very small part of a much bigger story.”

Following the news of the redaction in the U.K. edition, a spokesperson for Baron Cohen told Variety in a statement, “Harper Collins did not fact check this chapter in the book prior to publication and took the sensible but terribly belated step of deleting Rebel Wilson’s defamatory claims once presented with evidence that they were false.”

The statement continued, “Printing falsehoods is against the law in the U.K. and Australia; this is not a ‘peculiarity’ as Ms. Wilson said but a legal principle that has existed for many hundreds of years. This is a clear victory for Sacha Baron Cohen and confirms what we said from the beginning — that this is demonstrably false, in a shameful and failed effort to sell books.”

Variety has reached out to Wilson’s reps for comment.

Last month, Wilson alluded to a “massive a**hole” that’s been attempting to stop her from publishing her memoir; she later revealed that it was Baron Cohen.

In a chapter titled “Sacha Baron Cohen and Other Assholes,” she recounts Baron Cohen’s alleged inappropriate behavior while filming the 2016 action-comedy “The Brothers Grimsby.” Wilson played Dawn Grobham, the girlfriend of Baron Cohen‘s dimwitted character Nobby.

Baron Cohen denied Wilson’s claims about his behavior on the “Brothers Grimsby” set, saying in a statement through a spokesperson, “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of ‘The Brothers Grimsby.’”

The U.K. edition of “Rebel Rising” hits bookshelves Thursday.

  • Rebel Wilson Says Sacha Baron Cohen Is a “Massive Asshole” in New Memoir

Rebel Wilson Says Sacha Baron Cohen Is a “Massive Asshole” in New Memoir

    [ad_1]

Rebel Wilson’s “no asshole policy” apparently extends beyond Cats (2019).  In a recent Instagram story, Wilson shared which heretofore unnamed A-lister and former costar she calls a “massive asshole” in her forthcoming memoir, Rebel Rising: none other than Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, whom Wilson says has tried to prevent press on her book from coming out.

Per The Guardian, Wilson shared her distaste for the English actor via Instagram in the wee hours of Monday, March 25. “I will not be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers,” read Wilson’s Instagram story. “The “asshole” that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen.”

Previously, while promoting Rebel Rising, Wilson teased on Instagram that she once worked with a “massive asshole” in Hollywood, which led the Pitch Perfect star to create what she calls a “no assholes policy.”

“When I first came to Hollywood, people were like, yeah, ‘I have a no asshole policy, means like, yeah, I don’t work with assholes,’” said Wilson on Instagram 10 days ago. “I was like, ‘Oh yeah. I mean, that sounds sensible or logical.’ But then it really sunk in because I worked with a massive asshole and yeah, now I definitely have a no assholes policy.”

She continued to dangle the identity of the alleged asshole on social media “Do you wanna know why I have a ‘no assholes’ policy now with people I work with? …Well, it’s all in the book,” said Wilson in a video posted to the social media platform before the big reveal. She also suggested that the asshole in question was trying to stop her from releasing her memoir, which hits stands on April 2. “He’s trying to stop press coming out about my new book,” she wrote. “But the book WILL come out and you will all know the truth.”

Wilson acted opposite Baron Cohen in the 2016 spy-comedy The Brothers Grimsby (titled simply Grimsby in the UK), which also starred Mark Strong, Gabourey Sidibe, Penélope Cruz, and Cohen’s wife, Isla Fisher. In the film, Baron Cohen and Wilson played husband and wife, Alan “Nobby” Butcher and Dawn Grobham, a dimwitted British couple who share eleven children. The Brothers Grimsby received terrible reviews (it currently holds a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes) and flopped at the box office, earning just $28 million worldwide on a budget of $35 million.

While discussing the movie on the Kyle and Jackie O radio show in Australia, Wilson alleged that Cohen repeatedly urged her to “just go naked” for a scene in the film, and that she told him she would call their shared agent to “tell her how much you are harassing me.” “Every day he’s like, ‘Just go naked, it will be funny. Remember in Borat when I did that naked scene? It was hilarious,’” she said. “On the last day I thought I’d obviously won the argument and he got a body double to do the naked scene.” In that same interview, Wilson also alleged that Cohen asked her to physically violate him for a bit in the film.

“He’s like, ‘Look, I’ll just pull down my pants, you just stick your finger up my butt, it’ll be a really funny bit.’” she said. “You don’t wanna be a diva so I … said I’ll slap you once on the butt and that’s it.”

Cohen previously told The Guardian that he ultimately had a positive experience working on The Brothers Grimsby. “Any flop is difficult. But in retrospect, the experience was fantastic,” he said. “I was on the trajectory of a comedy movie star in Hollywood where you make a certain amount of movies that have to do well at the box office. The great thing about having a complete bomb was being liberated from that.”

A spokesperson for Cohen issued the following statement to Vanity Fair regarding Wilson’s allegations: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.

Rebel Wilson says Sacha Baron Cohen an ‘a–hole,’ trying to block her memoir – National | Globalnews.ca

Actor and comedian Rebel Wilson has been calling out an unnamed Hollywood star in social media posts over the past week, alleging that a “massive a–hole” has been trying to block her memoir Rebel Rising from being published.

Now, she has named that star as Sacha Baron Cohen — the celebrated, yet controversial, comedian behind the Borat and Ali G characters.

Wilson claimed in past social media posts that the star, still unnamed at the time, had been sending her threats because he was the subject of one of the chapters in her memoir.

In a Monday Instagram story, Wilson wrote that she will no longer “be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers.”

“The ‘a–hole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is Sacha Baron Cohen.”

“The chapter on said a–hole is Chapter 23,” Wilson continued, holding up a copy of her memoir Rebel Rising. “That guy was a massive a–hole.”

In an Instagram story that has since expired, Wilson claimed that the star was “trying to stop press coming out about my new book.”

“But the book WILL come out and you will all know the truth.”

Wilson and Baron Cohen worked together on the 2016 film The Brothers Grimsby, which Baron Cohen wrote and starred in. In the film, Wilson and Baron Cohen are partners who share 11 kids. The movie was largely panned by critics and seen as a low point in Baron Cohen’s career.

Wilson was upfront at the time about how much she disliked working with Baron Cohen.

On the Kyle and Jackie O radio show in Australia, she said Baron Cohen was persistent that she appear naked in the film and he eventually hired a body double for her when Wilson refused.

“Every day he’s like, ‘Just go naked, it will be funny. Remember in Borat when I did that naked scene? It was hilarious.’ On the last day I thought I’d obviously won the argument and he got a body double to do the naked scene,” she said.

When it came time to shoot the final scene of the movie, Wilson claimed that Baron Cohen asked her to “stick your finger up my butt.”

Wilson said she pointed out that there was no mention of this in the script but didn’t want to come across as “a diva.”

“I’ll slap you once on the butt and that’s it,” she said, according to the radio interview.

Wilson’s memoir is slated to arrive on April 2.

A representative for Baron Cohen told media outlets that Wilson’s allegations are “demonstrably false.”

“While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”

Rebel Wilson Gets Stitches On Her Face After Stunt Accident On ‘Bride Hard’ Movie Amid Strikes

Rebel Wilson brided a little too hard on the set of her latest movie!

The actress and comedian took to her Instagram Story on Thursday to show off a nasty injury she obtained while filming her upcoming wedding comedy, “Bride Hard”, which is currently in production in Savannah, Georgia.

“NOT the way I wanted to end this movie!” Wilson captioned the painful-looking shot, showing off the stitches and a bloody nose. “3 stitches and in hospital last night after a stunt accident at 4am.”

    Rebel Wilson/Instagram

Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes that have halted all major studio productions, “Bride Hard” was granted an Interim Agreement to continue filming amid the strikes, because it is an independently produced film.

“This list includes productions that are signed to agreements within the scope of the strike order, but have signed Interim Agreements allowing them to resume,” reads the official list from SAG-AFTRA. Given the designation of “Bride Hard” on the list, the union states, “Members may work on these productions without being in violation of the strike order.”

Similar productions that have been given the green light since the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike include two films from A24, which is the independent entertainment company that most recently produced the Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once”. The company’s approved productions include “Mother Mary”, starring Anne HathawayHunter Schafer and Michaela Coel, and “Death of a Unicorn”, with Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd.

Other films include Matthew McConaughey’s “The Rivals of Amziah King”; “Dust Bunny” starring Sigourney Weaver and Mads Mikkelsen; “Flight Risk” starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson; “Queen of the Ring” starring Walton Goggins and Josh Lucas; “Weekend Escape Project” starring Luke Evans; and “The Yellow Tie” starring John Malkovich and Sean Bean.

Rebel Wilson is opening up about meeting Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for the first time, and it wasn’t exactly great.

The “Pitch Perfect” star recalled the experience during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”, where they had been talking about the royal family during a commercial break and briefly continued on the subject when they got back from break. Wilson said when she met the couple in Santa Barbara, Markle was a bit standoffish while Harry, on the other hand, was “lovely.”

“Meghan was not as cool. She wasn’t as naturally warm,” said Wilson, who revealed they share a mutual friend, a polo player.

That being said, the actress conceded that the not-so-warm encounter with Markle may have had a lot to do with her mother, Sue Bownds, being a bit intrusive and asking “slightly rude” questions like, “Where are your kids?”

“And I’m like, ‘Mom, don’t ask her that,” Wilson said. “Maybe that’s why she was like, ‘Who are these annoying convicts from Australia?”

As for Harry, Wilson said he “could not have been nicer.”

Congratulations are in order for Australian actress Rebel Wilson and her fiancée, Ramona Agruma. The 42-year-old Pitch Perfect star made the announcement to her 11.2 million Instagram followers yesterday with a delightful photo of the two mid-smooch in matching sweatshirts (pink-and-white stripes, featuring a heart.) The shot was taken outside the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland in California.

“We said YES!” read the caption, along with a shout-out to Tiffany and Co. “for the stunning ring,” as well as Disney honcho Bob Iger “and the incredible team at Disneyland.”

Well-wishers to the happy couple on Instagram included Simu Liu, Brittany Snow, Chris Colfer, Alison Brie, and Paris Hilton, who added that this was “such a magical way to get engaged.”

Wilson and Agruma, the owner of the Los Angeles-based Lemon Ve Limon fashion line, made their romance known to the world (also via Instagram) in June 2022. The Disney brand made an appearance that time as well, with Wilson writing, “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince…but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess.” (The Disney brand has long been close to Wilson’s heart; she even argued in court that she was a distant relative to founder Walt Disney via marriage through her great aunt.)

The pair had been stepping out a bit prior to going Instagram official—in fact, they attended V.F.’s Oscar Party in late March (and took a quick video of their outfits beforehand.) They had been set up by a mutual friend, and conducted their first dates over the phone

In November, Wilson announced that she’d welcomed a baby via surrogate. Later that same month, Agruma said that she was co-parenting the child.

In other Rebel Wilson news, the actress appeared on Spotify’s Call Her Daddy podcast last week and revealed that she was contractually obligated to stay within a certain weight range to play the character Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect trilogy. “I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because I was in the contracts for that movie,” she said to host Alex Cooper. “You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds, or gain more than 10 pounds,” she explained.

She went on to say that, while she was not offended by the nature of the character, the contract prevented her from taking planned steps to lose weight and have a child. “I went to see a fertility doctor and he was like, ‘You’d have a much better chance with fertility if you were healthier,’” she said.

Rebel Wilson and her girlfriend Ramona Agruma are engaged, the actress announced Sunday. Wilson posted photos on Instagram showing the couple in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and wrote, “We said YES!”

When the duo went public in June of last year, Wilson said, “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess,” alongside the hashtag #loveislove.

In Sunday’s post, Agruma and Wilson are seen in matching sweaters, surrounded by pink rose petals and bouquets designed to match the sweaters. Wilson also offered her thanks to Tiffany and Co. for the rings and to Disney CEO Bob Iger and the “incredible team at Disneyland for pulling off this magical surprise!”

Well-wishes immediately began to flood in for the couple, with Paris Hilton commenting on the post, “Love you girls! So happy for you two! Such a magical way to get engaged.”

Wilson’s “Pitch Perfect” co-star Brittney Snow commented, “Rebs!!!! Magical…congrats you two,” and Alison Brie, who starred alongside Wilson in the 2016 film “How To Be Single,” also congratulated the couple.

Agruma herself commented on her fiancé’s post, writing, “I love you.”

Wilson welcomed her first child via surrogate late last year — a baby girl named Royce Lillian.

“I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle,” Wilson wrote at the time.

Rebel Wilson recently spoke on the “Life Uncut” podcast, where she shared with hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne how she met her girlfriend, Ramona Agruma.

“Well, we met [through] my mutual friend Hugh Sheridan. He had known Ramona for years and me for years, and I was always telling him like, I went to New York with Hugh and realized, ‘Ah, all these dudes. Like, they’re either not romantic or something, and I feel like they could be cheating.’ There was always some issue,” stated Wilson.

“And then he just was like, ‘You should meet Ramona.’ And I was like, ‘Uh, who?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll set you up.’ But then he waited weirdly for two months. And then, like text introduced us. And it could have been like a friendship thing like at first, but then we just started texting and then voice texting,” she continued.

Wilson then detailed how she knew she had to meet Agruma in person to confirm whether their text connection was the real deal.

“And then I was like, ‘Wow, I feel like a real connection with this person, like a deep, kind of really awesome connection. And I was in Australia at the time and I was like, ‘I gotta fly to L.A. to meet her to see if this is real,’ because I made the mistake before of texting someone for ages and then it didn’t work out or it didn’t go anywhere. So, I was like, okay, I’m gonna fly to L.A., I’m gonna meet her, no pressure,” shared the actress.

“[…] And then we did, and we went out, and it just blossomed from there. But I had to come all the way back to get my American residency stuff, green card and stuff. Then it just kind of blossomed.”

The “Senior Year” actress also discussed how it felt to have a journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald threaten to out her to the public and how she handled the situation herself.

“That guy had written nasty things before like God only knows what he was going to write. When I read it, it’s kind of carefully worded, but it was definitely a threat. And I was just like, ‘Oh God.’ You know. I’m just like, well, I’m just gonna take matters into my own hands and release the news how I wanted to and not have a journalist do it. So it was just like, I don’t know, it felt so grubby.”

Just last week, rumors swirled that Wilson was engaged to her partner, Ramona Agruma. However, the star disputed the rumor when she posted a photo on her Instagram story, writing: “Thanks for the well wishes but we are NOT engaged!”

Wilson revealed in May that she was “happily in a relationship,” and in June went public with Agruma, the founder of the sustainable clothing line Lemon Ve Limon.
