  • Man, 30, charged with murder, attempted murder in stabbing in St. Anthony

A 30-year-old man is accused of killing another man and severely injuring a teenager in a stabbing in St. Anthony, Minnesota, on Saturday morning.

A criminal complaint filed Monday in Ramsey County shows the accused man, of St. Anthony, is charged with one count each of second-degree intentional murder and second-degree attempted intentional murder.

Police responded to the stabbing at an apartment complex on the 2800 block of Silver Lane Northeast shortly before 5 a.m. Officers found a 44-year-old man with “significant neck wounds” and stab marks all over his body in a hallway between apartment units, the complaint said. He died at the scene.

The officers saw that a “violent struggle” had happened in the hallway, according to court documents, and saw “some sort of carving” on the outside door of one of the units.

A young girl came out of the unit and told police her brother was still inside, the complaint said. Officers then found the teen, who had been stabbed multiple times, lying facedown on the floor of the apartment.

The complaint said the teen told police the person who stabbed him came from a nearby apartment unit before he was taken to the hospital. Investigators later learned the accused man lived in that unit.

According to court documents, a rideshare driver told police at the apartment that they gave the man a ride from the complex to his parents’ home in St. Paul, Minnesota. The driver said the man was “trying to hide” when she picked him up just before 5:30 a.m., and that he was “extremely sweaty and not wearing proper clothing for the cold temperatures.”

The man asked the driver to charge his phone during the ride, and apologized because he had “fish guts” on it, the complaint said. He said he had been in a tent with some buddies and had been doing “standard boy stuff.”

The driver returned to the apartment after transporting the man because they thought the ride was “so strange,” according to court documents. The man’s father was also at the complex, looking for him. He told police the man suffers from mental health issues and was worried.

According to the complaint, the father said he and his wife received a text message from their son that said “sorry” around 5:59 a.m. The man showed up at his parents’ house a minute later.

The man borrowed his parents’ Mercedes-Benz, court documents said. His father thought his son would be going to their cabin in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Investigators, while searching the man’s apartment and garage, found that the man escaped before police were able to set up a perimeter around the apartment, the complaint said. They later interviewed the teen, who said he was woken up by a “Sawzall noise” coming from the hallway before the stabbing.

The teen said he opened the door to the unit he was sleeping in and saw a man, according to court documents. The 44-year-old man then woke up and went into the hallway. According to the teen, the 44-year-old man said something along the lines of “it was a lease violation,” before the teen saw a “sharp weapon like a screwdriver.”

The man and the 44-year-old man pushed each other, the complaint said, before the teen punched the man. The teen said he was then stabbed.

Court documents said the 44-year-old man pulled the other man off the teen, who saw the man attacking the 44-year-old man as he ran back into his apartment unit.

St. Louis County sheriff’s deputies located the Mercedes-Benz later on Thursday, according to court documents. The accused man fled when they tried to make a traffic stop. He later crashed and was taken into custody.

If convicted, the accused man faces up to 60 years in prison.

  • Little Canada man robbed Facebook Marketplace seller, charges say

    [ad_1]

A Little Canada, Minnesota, man is accused of robbing people who were selling items off of Facebook Marketplace.

According to charges filed in Ramsey County, an 18-year-old man said he was selling a PlayStation 5, two controllers and a 27-inch monitor for $650 to the Little Canada man. The two had agreed to meet at a condominium complex, but when the seller arrived, the buyer said “this is my sh*t now” and showed him a gun with an extended magazine.

The seller said he left without his items and without getting any money. The incident was captured on CCTV, documents say.

There were two other robberies the week before that were captured on CCTV, according to the charges. The incidents were not reported to police, but in all three robberies, the buyer came from an apartment complex to the south of the condominium.

Documents say police found the buyer by checking cell phone location data and the key fob that he used to get back into his apartment.

He was arrested last week. Officers executed a search warrant and found the PlayStation inside his apartment, charges say. They also found a handgun with an extended magazine.

The buyer declined an interview with police, but confirmed he lived in the apartment. He faces one count of aggravated first-degree robbery.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office recommends meeting in a public, well-lit location that’s covered with a camera for Facebook Marketplace meetups. They also recommend bringing a friend or family member with you or meeting at the parking lot of a police station.

A federal grand jury indicted three men accused of a string of armed robberies in the Twin Cities last month, temporarily shutting down Minnesota State Fair preparations.

The men — ranging from 18 to 21 years old — have all been charged with multiple counts of Hobbs Act robbery in connection with three robberies at gas stations in Roseville and Little Canada on the morning of Aug. 17.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says two of the men first robbed a Speedway in Roseville just before 6 a.m. A few hours later, the three men robbed two different BP gas stations — one in Little Canada and one in Roseville — within 30 minutes of each other. All three robberies were at gunpoint.

At the BP in Roseville, one of the men allegedly demanded the cashier give him their wallet, but the cashier refused and attempted to grab the gun. They were then struck in the head with a gun. According to the indictment, the cashier suffered a laceration and a burst blood vessel in their eye.

Law enforcement spotted the suspect vehicle after the third robbery and pursued it into St. Paul, where the men eventually crashed, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office said. One man was arrested while the other two fled on foot.

The other two allegedly caught rideshares and fled the area. It’s unclear when and where the second suspect was arrested, but the complaint states he was uncooperative while being interviewed by investigators.

The third suspect was arrested days later at a residence in Centerville, about 25 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Authorities say he was found hiding under a stairwell inside his parents’ home after they received a tip from a family member that led them to the quiet lakeside community.

The men made their initial appearances in federal court on Tuesday and will be detained pending further proceedings.

If convicted, the men could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

  • Suspect who shot at Ramsey County deputy in custody, police say

Suspect who shot at Ramsey County deputy in custody, police say

    [ad_1]

ST. PAUL, Minn. —  A suspect who shot at a Ramsey County deputy during a chase earlier this month is now in custody, police said Wednesday.

St. Paul Police Department Sgt. Mike Ernster said the suspect was arrested on the 1000 block of Pacific Avenue Wednesday morning. Shortly after that, the 17-year-old police said was driving during the chase turned himself in, Ernster said. Neither suspect has been charged.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher said a suspect fired at Deputy Joe Kill during a chase on March 1. Police said Kill “was struck by debris or possibly shrapnel from the bullets coming into his vehicle.”

The chase began when officers spotted a dark-colored vehicle being driven recklessly near Payne Avenue and Jessamine Street in St. Paul, according to police. The driver was speeding and running stop signs, police said.

Officers tried to stop the driver, but they fled. Police did not pursue, but informed other law enforcement in the area of the vehicle.

Kill spotted it and also tried to stop the driver, but they fled again, police said. Kill pursued, and that’s when a passenger in the suspect vehicle shot at him, according to police. Kill stopped the pursuit when something struck him in the vest.

Kill was treated at the scene and had no apparent injuries, police said.

The vehicle involved in the shooting was later found and impounded.

Ernster said the case is still “ongoing, open and active.”

Chief Axel Henry said Wednesday that gun violence, and in particular violence against police, “is a very, very serious issue for our state and we take it very seriously.”

“We want to be the worst place for you to fire guns at,” Henry said.
