    Rebel Wilson Weighs In On Whether Only Gay Actors Should Be Cast In LGBT Roles! – Perez Hilton

    Rebel Wilson has thoughts on casting LGBT roles.

    During an interview on  BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs released on Sunday, the Australian actress was asked if she feels women can get away with edgier jokes than men. She dished:

    “I’ve definitely said a lot of edgy jokes, and said them sometimes in very public places like the BAFTAs. Yeah I don’t think there’s a different standard, it’s more this thing about — if you are something then now you’re allowed to joke about it.”

    The 44-year-old continued:

    “So say, if you are overweight, you can say jokes. But if you’re not [you can’t] that’s kind of what’s currently happening. So it’s not really gendered.”

    But when it comes to LGBT roles in film and TV, the Pitch Perfect star thinks casting should NOT be limited to actors who identify the same way as a given character:

    “I think that’s hard. It’s going into this territory of like saying, ‘Well, only straight actors can play straight roles, and gay actors can play gay roles,’ which I think is total nonsense. I think you should be able to play any role that you want.”

    Inneresting! There’s definitely something to be said for reserving gay roles for openly gay actors who historically don’t get as many opportunities, though!

    It’s been just about two years since Rebel came out and introduced fans to her love Ramona Agruma. Innerestingly, she revealed in December 2022 that her on-screen kiss with a woman in 2022’s The Almond and the Seahorse was not only her first kiss with a woman EVER, but that the moment is what ultimately “opened” her heart to having more intimate experiences with other women!

    Rebel Wilson once took a dip in the weight loss drug pool!

    As we’ve all seen and been stunned by, the Pitch Perfect star set out on a “year of health” in 2020, making a MAJOR physical change by dropping an impressive 80 pounds. But while she may not have used weight loss drugs to shed the weight, she did dabble to help keep it off.

    During an interview with The Sunday Times published over the weekend, the 44-year-old opened up about her weight loss journey and how she tried Ozempic after losing the weight to make sure she didn’t gain it back. She told the outlet:

    “Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good.”

    Relatable! But she said she’s since quit taking the injectable, instead opting for a more “curvy and solid” physique. She told the outlet:

    “I feel strongly that young women shouldn’t try to obsess over looking like Victoria’s Secret models — they should just look like themselves. I know that my relationship with food is complicated.”

    Inneresting, especially since she was so adamant that she didn’t use any “magic weight loss pills” … We guess she technically didn’t lie since she didn’t use Ozempic to shed the weight — and since it’s not a pill! Ha!

    Back in January, the Bridesmaids actress opened up about gaining 30 pounds back between shooting movies and working on her memoir Rebel Rising. She dished at the time:

    “It’s just been a LOT and I’ve lost focus on my healthy lifestyle.”

    We’re sure she’ll be able to refocus after her book drops next week!

    As for why she dropped the weight in the first place, Rebel told The Sunday Times that a fertility doc encouraged her to do so for better chances at IVF — despite what she thinks Hollywood may have wanted for her. She dished:

    “Basically no one apart from my mom wanted me to lose weight. People thought I’d lose my pigeonhole in my career, playing the fat funny character, and they wanted me to continue in that.”

    Well, it’s clear she’s just as successful as ever!

    Rebel welcomed daughter Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson via surrogate in late 2022, and got engaged to fiancée Ramona Agruma in early 2023.

    Rebel Wilson recently spoke on the “Life Uncut” podcast, where she shared with hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne how she met her girlfriend, Ramona Agruma.

    “Well, we met [through] my mutual friend Hugh Sheridan. He had known Ramona for years and me for years, and I was always telling him like, I went to New York with Hugh and realized, ‘Ah, all these dudes. Like, they’re either not romantic or something, and I feel like they could be cheating.’ There was always some issue,” stated Wilson.

    “And then he just was like, ‘You should meet Ramona.’ And I was like, ‘Uh, who?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll set you up.’ But then he waited weirdly for two months. And then, like text introduced us. And it could have been like a friendship thing like at first, but then we just started texting and then voice texting,” she continued.

    Wilson then detailed how she knew she had to meet Agruma in person to confirm whether their text connection was the real deal.

    “And then I was like, ‘Wow, I feel like a real connection with this person, like a deep, kind of really awesome connection. And I was in Australia at the time and I was like, ‘I gotta fly to L.A. to meet her to see if this is real,’ because I made the mistake before of texting someone for ages and then it didn’t work out or it didn’t go anywhere. So, I was like, okay, I’m gonna fly to L.A., I’m gonna meet her, no pressure,” shared the actress.

    “[…] And then we did, and we went out, and it just blossomed from there. But I had to come all the way back to get my American residency stuff, green card and stuff. Then it just kind of blossomed.”

    The “Senior Year” actress also discussed how it felt to have a journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald threaten to out her to the public and how she handled the situation herself.

    “That guy had written nasty things before like God only knows what he was going to write. When I read it, it’s kind of carefully worded, but it was definitely a threat. And I was just like, ‘Oh God.’ You know. I’m just like, well, I’m just gonna take matters into my own hands and release the news how I wanted to and not have a journalist do it. So it was just like, I don’t know, it felt so grubby.”
