India Box Office: ‘Ram Setu’ Opens On A High For Akshay Kumar, Scores Low In 10 Days

    [ad_1]

Hindi film Ram Setu had a Diwali-special release but it registered an opening collection below expectations at the box office in India on day one. It did score well for lead actor Akshay Kumar – the film is his highest opener in India in 2022. Made on an estimated budget of $11 million, the film has earned roughly $7.8 million in India in ten days of the release. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film also features Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushratt Bharuccha.

The Hindi film collected mere $650000 outside India in the extended weekend that spread across six days. The film made an opening collection of $1.8 million on Tuesday (October 25) and the earnings took a dip right from the second day of the release. Both the days were holidays in India and registered below average response at the ticket windows for Ram Setu. As per producers of the film, Abuduntia Entertainment, Ram Setu averaged $6.8 million in India over the first weekend, an extended one thanks to the festive release.

Kumar has had three theatrical releases this year. Bachchan Pandey made an opening day collection of $1.6 million while Samrat Prithviraj collected $1.2 million on the opening day. Raksha Bandhan had a mere $1 million opening collection.

Though the numbers are low for the film per se, they fare well in comparison to other Hindi releases this year. The opening day collection of Ram Setu is second only to Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra Part One. The Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt-starrer collected $ million on day one of the release on September 30.

Kumar plays the role of Dr Aryan Kulshreshtha, an archaeologist given the task to find out whether Ram Setu (also known as the Adam’s bridge) – the bridge that connects India and Sri Lanka – is a man-made structure or a result of natural process. He faces many obstacles in the path, mostly placed by ill-meaning politicians ad businessmen.

With an interesting premise backed by creative producer Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Ram Setu had enough potential for an entertaining and gripping product. However, lopsided arguments in the faith versus science debate in the second half spoils the otherwise rational film. The movie often falters in writing and coherence.

Actor Satya Dev as AP the local guide who helps Kumar and his team in his endeavour in Sri Lanka is one of the best parts of the film. His comic timings and smooth portrayal of the know-it-all character makes AP endearing to the audience. Ram Setu does not offer much space and meat for the female stars. Both Fernandez and Bharuccha have little to do in the film. Actors Pravesh Rana and Nasser play the main antagonists and do justice to their roles.

Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar‘s security being beefed up

As per several reports, while Salman Khan has been given Y+ security, Akshay Kumar has been given X category of security. It means that the Khiladi Kumar would be having at least three security officers protecting him all the time. Unlike Salman Khan, he will not have commandos though. Apart from Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher too has been given X category of security. The move reportedly is because of the increasing threats the stars have been receiving. As per the reports in entertainment news portals, celebrities will take charge of the expenses for their own security.

It was recently that Salman Khan had allegedly received a death threat from Bishnoi gang. The gang has allegedly referred to the death of Punjabi singer Siddhu Moosewala. Reportedly, it was Salim Khan‘s security team who had found a letter at Bandra Bandstand promenade suggesting that Salman Khan will have the same fate at Sidhu Moosewala. Soon police complaint was filed and Salman Khan also submitted a letter to Mumbai Police seeking a weapon license for his own protection, say reports.

Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan’s projects

‘Ram Setu’ vs ‘Thank God’ box office day 2: Akshay Kumar film logs 30% dip on Wednesday

    [ad_1]

It was a clash of the titans at the box office yesterday’s Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn’s Thank God released on the same day. Ram Setu has logged a 27 to 30 per cent drop in its collections on the second day and has collected Rs 11.40 crore on its second day.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “Ram Setu declines on Day 2, but stays in double digits… Holds well at mass circuits, but major centres remain low… Biz on Thu and Fri [working days] crucial, before the weekend begins… Tue 15.25 cr, Wed 11.40 cr. Total: ₹ 26.65 cr. “

While the film is doing decent in mass belts, metros and multiplexes have not warmed up to it yet, according to entertainment news portal Bollywood Hungama. Ajay Devgn’s Thank God also logged weak box office numbers on Wednesday as the film collected mere Rs 6 crore on its second day, with total collections reaching Rs 14.10 crore.

Adarsh tweeted, “Thank God hits a rough patch on Day 2…. Biz remains weak, despite the ongoing holiday period… Simply put, the two-day total is underwhelming… Biz on Thursday and Friday [working days] needs to stay on similar levels… Tuesday Rs 8.10 crore, Wednesday Rs 6 crore. Total: Rs 14.10 crore.”

Ram Setu focuses on an archeologist Dr Aryan Kulshreshtha who is on a quest to find Ram Setu. Ram Setu is a bridge between India and Sri Lanka described in the Valmiki Ramayana. The film features Akshay Kumar, Nushratt Bharucha and Jacqueline Fernandez in lead roles.

Thank God, on the other hand, is a fantasy comedy film about a real estate broker who meets with an accident. The film features Ajay Devgn, Siddharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh in pivotal roles.

Ram Setu box office collection day 1: Huge numbers in mass belts; takes second best opening of 2022

Give how the advance booking had proceeded, both the trade and film industry didn’t seem too optimistic of the Ram Setu box office collection going into Diwali, but Ram Setu has managed to spring a major surprise at the box office, as the film has blown away all expectation in mass belts. The numbers for the Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer are pretty decent in A centres, too, but it’s mass belts that have really driven the collections, giving the trade something to cheer about, especially with a long Diwali weekend in the offing.

Ram Setu box office collection day 1 driven by mass belts

As per early reports in the trade and our tracking of the box office, it looks like Ram Setu is set to open at ₹15-16 crore nett, and could even go a little higher once the fnial number come in. From the morning shows itself, the movie sprang a huge surprise, registering an all-India occupancy of 30-35%, which, as mentioned before, was not expected given the state of advance booking. Several shows of the Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer ran housefull in UP, MP, Bihar, Gujarat and Rajasthan from noon onward while big-city multiplexes were decent throughout the day.

Ram Setu takes second best opening for Bollywood in 2022

The Ram Setu box office collection day 1 pegs it as the second best opener of 2022, way below Brahmastra, which has collected ₹36 crore nett, but just ahead of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which had collected ₹14.11 crore nett. In fact, in a territory like CI, the film has collected even more than Brahmastra – inconceivable up until yesterday morning. With a huge 5-day weekend for Diwali, the Abhishek Sharma directorial can be expected to put up a very goood first weekend collection and again give the Hindi film industry reason to smile after Brahmastra, but, provided, the word-of-mouth remains good.
