  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Heartwarming Official Video “Belong to You” From New Album, Canopy

Musically Expansive and Hopeful Canopy, Out Now on Vibrantly Packaged Deluxe CD and Vinyl

Rachael Sage & The Sequins have released their captivating, musically expansive and hopeful full-length studio album, Canopy, on deluxe CD and Vinyl. The special limited-edition 40-panel hardcover book CD package – featuring Sage’s original artwork – as well as an orange colored vinyl edition is available to order now via MPress Records. The record was released digitally worldwide on October 24. With Canopy, Sage offers listeners yet another beautifully crafted, deeply heartfelt collection of songs that feel like a refuge, woven from resilience, longing, and the irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places. Equal parts reflective, mournful and optimistic, Canopy is one of her most soulful and thought-provoking works yet.

Merging pop, gospel and Americana in a way that brings to mind the soulfulness of Bonnie Raitt’s unforgettable ballad “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and the wistfulness of Norah Jones’ “Don’t Know Why”, “Belong To You” celebrates love in all forms and perfectly captures the devotion and loyalty of our friendships in the heartwarming visual. Directed by Jenny He, the video for “Belong To You” is a uniquely meaningful moment shot during an open casting call for people to show up with who they love the most. Sage sings: “With a grip as strong as a weatherman’s gaze/I will belong to you/With a torn up rag for a prayer shawl of praise/I will hold on to you/I will be strong for you” – a reminder to cherish who we’re most grateful for ahead of Thanksgiving.

“It was such a wonderful experience working with Jenny He again as I am so inspired by her very singular, focused vision,”shares Sage on the video. “We knew we wanted to find a concept that reflected the timeless, unconditionally loving sensibility of the song and that ideally included as many types of loving relationships as possible… not only romantic but also parent/child, friendship, owners/pets, and so forth. Her idea to invite everyday people to join us for a real-life portrait session that captured loving interactions between ‘soulmates’ – and then to also provide them with those portraits for posterity – was brilliant and fit the song so well. It was such a joyful and wholesome experience meeting everyone and capturing it through Jenny’s unique perspective. It felt hopeful, genuine, and spiritually uplifting and it was one of the most positive and uplifting days of 2025 for me- and having members of The Sequins there to be part of my own ‘portrait’ was the perfect way to express my gratitude for simply being able to do what I do, day in and day out, as an artist surrounded by musicians who I deeply love.”

Currently on her Under My Canopy Tour in the UK and gearing up for a special MPress & Bar-None Records Holiday showat New York’s Bowery Electric on December 10 with Seth Glier, Glenn Morrow‘s Cry For Help, Karyn Kuhl & The Gang, and more, Sage has been bringing her incomparable live show and the inclusive musical message of her new album to major cities across North America and the UK. A balm to the divisiveness in the world, Canopy tackles themes of acceptance, non-violence, and safety. Stand out tracks include “Nexus“, “Live It Up“, “The Best Version“, “Canopy“, and “Just Enough.” Bringing our collective humanity back into focus, Canopy is a 14-track project that confidently spans Americana, pop, and neo-folk in a statement of self that is a masterclass in radical inclusivity and self-acceptance. Produced by Sage with GRAMMY-nominated engineer Mikhail Pivovarov, Canopy features inspired performances by her longtime beloved bandmates and friends including Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls), Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner), Ward Williams (Sara Bareilles), and more. The record was mixed by Pivovarov and GRAMMY-winning mixer Andy Zulla (Kelly Clarkson, Diana Ross) and continues Sage’s ongoing journey of storytelling with the goal of creating a community in which everyone feels safe and embraced for exactly who they are.

  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Powerful, Inspiring Album, Canopy

New Celebratory Official Video “Live It Up” Also Unveiled

Acclaimed singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and activist Rachael Sage has released her highly anticipated full-band debut, Canopy, with her longtime group, The Sequins (via MPress Records). A vibrant blend of Americana, pop, and neo-folk, Canopy finds Sage continuing her journey of storytelling, reinvention, emotional connection, and empathy as she extends a heartfelt invitation to join her in the goal of spreading inclusivity and acceptance. Leading people to find light even in the darkest places, the beautifully crafted collection of songs is her most powerful and soulful to date.

    Stream/Download Canopy HERE

“Canopy is the first album that I feel reflects every aspect of my artistry, not only as a singer, producer, and musician, but also as a songwriter,” shares Sage. “The title track just fell out after one too many late-night doom scrolls where the amount of violence and discord I digested in the span of a few minutes was so intense and so demoralizing that I wanted to crawl into a hole and stay there. They’re among the most honest lyrics I’ve ever written, but it very quickly formed an almost visceral image of an entire album focused on inclusiveness, acceptance, safety and empathy. As a lyricist, these have been some very intimidating times to capture, topically. How do we write songs about the insanity of war without sounding naive, or about being ‘othered’ via bigotry to the point of irreparable harm…without completely losing hope?”

Accompanying Canopy, Rachael Sage & The Sequins have additionally released an official video for “Live It Up“, an upbeat piano romp that joyfully showcases Sage’s signature keyboard chops. Playfully diverting listeners away from cynical news cycles toward themes of acceptance and equality, the video was loosely inspired by one of Sage’s all-time favorite VH-1 classics, “I Know” by Dionne Faris. Sage recalls: “I remember seeing that clip with its bright yellow, high contrasting palette and smiling, energetic band members, and wanting to crawl through my TV screen and join that band. It made me immediately eager to inhabit what seemed to be a fantasy version of the NYC art-loft, replete with photogenic bathroom stalls (as was the trend).”

Watch/Listen to “Live It Up” HERE

Canopy follows the recent release of single “Nexus,” a sobering, utopian folk-pop manifesto whose proceeds will be donated to LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity The Trevor Project in honor of Nex Benedict who passed away after being beaten by their school peers for being nonbinary. The collection also includes fan favorites “Belong To You,” a uniquely meaningful moment about the devotion and loyalty of our friendships that celebrates love in all forms, “The Best Version,” a lyrical, piano-pop confession that grapples with social media surrealism, and “Canopy” which imagines a world where shelter is a given for all as well as “Just Enough,” a fan favorite groove about being enough exactly as you are.

A 14-track project that confidently spans Americana, pop, and neo-folk in a statement of self, Canopy is a masterclass in radical self-acceptance. Determined to find light in the darkest places, Canopy, produced by Sage with Grammy® nominee Mikhail Pivovarov and mixed by Pivovarov and Grammy® winning producer Andy Zulla, will be available as a special limited-edition 40-panel hardcover book CD package – featuring Sage’s original artwork – as well as an orange colored vinyl edition November 14th, and is available now via MPress Records. Sage sums up the record, saying: “While subject-wise there are definitely some very heavy tracks on this album (‘Canopy’, ‘Nexus’, ‘Underneath’), there are also tunes like ‘Just Enough’, ‘Live It Up’ and ‘The Best Version’ that reflect my and my very like-minded bandmates’ continued determination to bring light, hope and positive encouragement to anyone who may feel especially vulnerable in our current cultural climate.”

  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Powerful New Single “Nexus” Ahead of New Album

All Proceeds Will Support The Trevor Project in Honor of Hate Crime Victim Nex Benedict

Donating all the proceeds to LGBTQ+ mental health and suicide prevention charity The Trevor Project, activist singer-songwriter Rachael Sage and her longtime band The Sequins have released their powerful new single “Nexus” from their upcoming studio album Canopy, out October 24 via MPress Records.

A heartfelt tribute to Benedict and their family, the song is Sage’s sobering response to the tragic story of Nex Benedict who passed away after being beaten by school peers for being nonbinary. “Nexus” is equally a timely, universal anthem underlining the critical importance of inclusivity and empathy. Sage shows we can all be a part of this mission, singing: “I wanna make this tide of torturousness mean something/If any good can come from desperately gathering/We can lift each other up with our resolve instead of doing nothing.”

Sage discusses the song, saying: “I wrote ‘Nexus’ almost immediately after reading about nonbinary student Nex Benedict, and the tragic story of their death after being violently beaten by their school peers,” shares Sage on the inspiration for the song. “The horror of learning about the cruelty and violence to which they were subjected – and how the local community and their school did nothing to stop it from happening even when they had the opportunity – struck a very deep and personal chord as my first bandmate took his own life rather than come out to his parents. All I could think of when this song fell out was the unimaginable suffering of Nex’s family, long after the headlines faded. The song recounts something very tragic, but I also felt it was crucial to draw some hope out of how we can come together. Fear and silence are best combatted by standing together and doing our best to show solidarity. By raising our voices collectively against hate, we can shift the cultural tide for the better. This song is about mourning, survival and transformation – and how in dark times we need and must be there to lift each other up, all the more.”

Rachael Sage & The Sequins continue to bring their inclusive musical message from their upcoming album Canopy to major cities across the county before they head for extensive tours of the UK. Featuring recently released single “Belong To You” as well as fan favorites “Canopy,” “Just Enough,” “The Best Version,” and “Live It Up,” Canopy is a masterclass in radical self-acceptance. Determined to find light in the darkest places, Canopy, produced by Sage with Grammy® nominee Mikhail Pivovarov and mixed by Pivovarov and Grammy® winning producer Andy, Canopy will be released digitally worldwide on Oct 24. A special limited-edition 40-panel hardcover book CD package – featuring Sage’s original artwork – as well as an orange colored vinyl edition, will be released on November 14th and is available for preorder now via MPress Records.

  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Sparkling Official Video “Just Enough”

Track & Video Out Ahead of Debut Full-Band Album Canopy, Due Oct. 24th

Renowned alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has joined forces with her stellar longtime band The Sequins to create a sparkling video for their groove track Just Enough”, ahead of their highly anticipated full-length studio album Canopy, due October 24th (a debut full-band release for Rachael Sage & The Sequins, via MPress Records). Filmed in a shimmering DIY disco – adorned with Sage’s original paintings – that hearkens back to the heyday of ’80s downtown New York City, the colorful video, directed by Michael Flanagan, is an irresistible invitation to join an inclusive dance party and celebrate finding joy in acceptance of self and others.

    Pre-Order Canopy HERE

The sweetly soulful “Just Enough” captures the Americana-Pop band at the peak of their musical powers, peddling positive vibes with a neo-folk flair. With instrumentation reminiscent of Van Morrison’s golden-era groove and harmonies hearkening to ’60s girl groups, the upbeat jam channels youthful exuberance with wah guitars, horns, Hammond organ, handclaps and a nostalgic spirit. There’s a vintage warmth to its sound with Sage’s lyrics – honest and irrepressibly optimistic – that strike deep in a world that often demands too much. It’s a reminder that who we are is already more than enough.

Rachael discusses the video, saying: “Pride in July, Pride in September – it’s never too late! I wanted to hearken back to several retro-eras: the ’70s, style-wise but also the ’80s and ’90s on NYC’s Lower East Side, where small dive bars were embracing wildly eclectic indie artists every night of the week. It was a mixture of Patricia Field-esque club-wear and expressiveness, along with a certain amount of camp – at Meow Mix they played Jane Fonda workout videos on the TV screens. I hope this video captures the timeless, colorful and celebratory spirit of Downtown NYC, which essentially raised me into the artist I am today.”

Produced by Rachael Sage with Grammy® nominated engineer Mikhail Pivovarov, the track features Sage on vocals, piano, and percussion, accompanied by her longtime band The Sequins: Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls) on violin, Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner) on background vocals, and Andy Mac (Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls) on drums. Other contributors include Rob Curto (The Klezmatics) on Hammond B3 organ, Russ Johnson (Bill Frisell) on trumpet, Katie Marie (Paula Cole) on additional percussion, Mikhail Pivovarov on bass, and James Mastro (Patti Smith) on lead electric guitar.

Following on the heels of her two latest releases – 2023’s critically acclaimed The Other Side and 2024’s Another SideRachael Sage & The Sequins’ forthcoming full-length album Canopy continues her ongoing journey of storytelling, reinvention, and emotional connection. Sage offers listeners yet another beautifully crafted, deeply heartfelt collection of songs that feel like a refuge, woven from resilience, longing, and the irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places. Equal parts reflective, mournful and optimistic, Canopy promises to be one of her most soulful and thought-provoking works yet. The album will be released digitally worldwide on October 24. • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release “The Best Version” Single/Video & Announce ‘Canopy’ Album

Acclaimed alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage and her stellar longtime band The Sequins have released a thoughtful new single and video, “The Best Version”, ahead of their highly anticipated full-length studio album Canopy (a debut full-band release for Rachael Sage & The Sequins via MPress Records). An expansive, uplifting chamber-pop anthem which is magnified by orchestral strings and sparkling piano, “The Best Version” supports lyrics grappling with social media surreality, and the cathartic liberation of true human connection. Performed by Grammy® winning cellist Dave Eggar (Paul Simon) and violinist Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls), and produced with Sage and Grammy® Nominee Mikhail Pivovarov, “The Best Version” is sure to lead listeners on self-reflecting journeys of their own.

Rachael discusses the song, saying: “The best version of ourselves we present to the world through our phones and our search for peer validation may end up not being reflective at all of our core artistry or who we strive to be as human beings, when no one is watching. When humans are in the same room they tend to be more apt to look for the best in each other, nuances and all; while people in an entirely digital, virtual space may be more apt to generate conflict, judgement or rejection. The “I love you / even if I’ve never met you before” could be about a doppelgänger in a distant place – with the knowledge that we are all human regardless of the surface things that divide us – or just a prayer/energetic release into the global community of humans yearning to be be loved, seen, understood.”

The official video for “The Best Version” explores the light and shade of social media through abstract, cyclical visuals, highlighting the internet’s ability to connect us to each other instantly – but likewise, to trigger low self-esteem and alienation. Violinist Kelly Halloran (Lainey Wilson) and harmonica player Will Wilde (Walter Trout) comprise a chamber-pop power trio that feels simultaneously connected as one organism while starkly separate. Musically whimsical but emotionally vulnerable, the cinematic clip was directed by Lee Malone and shot in London, which Sage fondly describes as her “home away from home”.

Rachael Sage & The Sequins‘ new album Canopy is a diverse collection of songs that feel like a refuge, woven from resilience, longing, and the irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places. Following on the heels of Sage’s two latest recordings – her 2023-2024 critically acclaimed pairing, The Other Side and Another Side – this debut full-band release as Rachael Sage & The Sequins spotlights Sage’s longtime group, and continues her ongoing journey of storytelling, reinvention, and emotional connection. Confidently spanning the genres of Americana, pop and neo-folk, Sage and her band offer listeners a beautifully crafted, deeply heartfelt collection of songs that find common ground in themes of living a purposeful and joyful life rooted in inclusiveness, equality and non-violence. Reflective, mournful but optimistic, Canopy is one of her most soulful and thought-provoking works yet.

Accompanied by The Sequins – violinist Kelly Halloran, drummer Andy Mac (Pete Muller and the Kindred Souls), Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner) on harmonica, and cellist Ward Williams (Sara Bareilles) – Sage has made a name for herself as a gifted storyteller, consummate multi-instrumentalist, and prolific songwriter. A self-described cancer-thriver who is currently in remission from endometrial cancer, Sage is fueled by an irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places – an unwavering calling which catapulted her 2020 single “Blue Sky Days” into Billboard’s Top 40 Indicator Chart. Canopy will be released digitally worldwide on October 24. A special limited-edition 40-panel hardcover book CD package – featuring Sage’s original artwork – as well as an orange colored vinyl edition, is available for preorder now via MPress Records.

  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Rollicking Single “Live It Up”

Joyful Third Track from Forthcoming Debut Full-Band Album, Canopy

Acclaimed alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has joined forces with her stellar longtime band The Sequins to record “Live It Up,” the third single to release ahead of her highly anticipated full-length studio album, Canopy (a debut full-band release for Rachael Sage & The Sequins via MPress Records). The lively piano-pop romp “Live It Up” is exactly the song the world needs in these chaotic and altogether unpredictable times. With lyrics that playfully divert listeners from news-cycle overwhelm toward equality and understanding (“I can be the hope and possibility, you can be the one to help me turn the key/There ain’t no way to heaven ’till we get there all equal”), this joyful, dynamic track showcases Sage’s signature keyboard chops amidst a kitchen-sink arrangement including Hammond organ, call-and-response horns, and catchy slide guitar that evokes comparisons to Mika, Elton John and Sara Bareilles.

Rachael discusses the song, saying: “With ‘Live It Up’ I endeavored to write a neo-classic pop-rock tune with a positive, hopeful message, as a musical antidote for these tumultuous and divisive times. I also wanted it to have the widest dynamics on my album Canopy, and a feel-good, uplifting 70’s-reminiscent sound encompassing the themes of inclusivity, love and acceptance…with an almost over-the-top, irrepressible energy – like something Mika or Elton John might sing. My band The Sequins are all such passionate and expressive players and we had a fabulous time recording this song together as a band – along with Russ Johnson on horns, who definitely brings the party!”

Other contributors include Rob Curto (The Klezmatics) on Hammond B3 organ, Dave Eggar (Paul Simon) on cello, Doug Yowell (Suzanne Vega) on additional drums, Mikhail Pivovarov on bass and handclaps, Jack Petruzzelli (Patti Smith) and James Mastro (Patti Smith) on electric guitar.

Following on the heels of her two latest releases – 2023’s critically acclaimed The Other Side and 2024’s Another SideRachael Sage & The Sequins‘ forthcoming full-length album Canopy continues her ongoing journey of storytelling, reinvention, and emotional connection. Produced by Sage with Grammy® nominated engineer/bassist Mikhail Pivovarov and mixed by Pivovarov and Grammy® winner Andy Zulla (Rod Stewart), Canopy is the debut full-length album with Sage’s signature band, the Sequins – violinist Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls), drummer Andy Mac (Pete Muller and the Kindred Souls) and harmonica player Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner). • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Grooving Single “Just Enough”

Second Track Lands Ahead of Forthcoming Debut Full-Band Album, Canopy

Acclaimed MPress Records alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has joined forces with her stellar longtime band The Sequins to record “Just Enough,” the second single to drop before her highly anticipated forthcoming full-length studio album, Canopy (a debut full-band release for Rachael Sage & The Sequins). Fit for cruising with the top down or a ’70s basement dance party, the song is a celebration of both romantic love and of one’s own beautiful individuality. Finding joy in acceptance of self and others, and the simple act of expressing love, it is a perfect sentiment for June and celebrating Pride and love in all forms.

“Just Enough” captures the Americana-Pop band at the peak of their musical powers, peddling positive vibes with a neo-folk flair. With instrumentation reminiscent of Van Morrison’s golden-era groove and harmonies hearkening to ’60s girl groups, this upbeat jam channels youthful exuberance with wah guitars, horns, Hammond organ, handclaps and a nostalgic spirit. There’s a vintage warmth to its sound with Sage’s lyrics – honest, tongue-in-cheek, and irrepressibly optimistic – that strike deep in a world that often demands too much. It’s a reminder that who we are is already more than enough.

Rachael discusses the song, saying: “‘Just Enough,” at first listen, seems like a romantic love song and to some degree it started out that way when I was first writing it. But the longer I’ve played it live out on tour the more now it feels like it’s equally a mantra to oneself about being enough as you are: lovable enough, accomplished enough, attractive enough, smart enough…all the things that, for instance, a best friend or any loved-one might acknowledge in you are truly, unconditionally and authentically enough.”

Produced by Rachael Sage with Grammy® nominated engineer Mikhail Pivovarov, the track features Sage on vocals, electric guitar and percussion, accompanied by her longtime band The Sequins: Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls) on electro wah violin and background vocals, Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner) on background vocals, and Andy Mac (Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls) on drums. Other contributors include Rob Curto (The Klezmatics) on Hammond organ, Russ Johnson (Bill Frisell) on trumpet, Katie Marie (Paula Cole) on additional percussion, Mikhail Pivovarov on bass, and James Mastro (Ian Hunter) on lead electric guitar.

  • Rachael Sage & Kristen Ford Announce “Joy=Resistance” Tour

MPress Records & Righteous Babe Records Artists Team Up For US Tour

This summer and autumn, two of independent music’s most fiercely individual, genre-bending LGBTQ+ artists team up to bring their new material and positive, inclusive musical message to cities large and small across the US. Rachael Sage and Kristen Ford ‐ of MPress Records and Righteous Babe Records, respectively – will be debuting songs from their powerful new albums Pinto and Canopy.

Billboard-charting alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachael Sage has steadily released a slew of vibrant, dynamic albums Since founding her own label MPress Records two decades ago. Sharing stages with seminal musicians such Rufus Wainwright, Ani DiFranco, and Judy Collins – with whom she also recorded a critically-acclaimed duet – Sage’s career has been defined by a passion for storytelling and a vibrant, innovative sense of creativity. She will perform her timely singles Canopy and Just Enough with rotating longtime bandmates The Sequins: violinist Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls), cellist Dave Eggar (Paul Simon), drummer Andy Mac (Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls), and harmonica player Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner).

Kristen Ford is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist influenced by greats such as Alanis Morrisette, Radiohead and Ani Difranco. She navigates life as a biracial, queer girl and tours globally in pursuit of the perfect show. Her live performance morphs from unplugged solo acoustic to screaming, electric guitar soloing in front of a rock band to her dynamic one woman band using loops, beatboxing and a healthy case of ADHD to her advantage. Kristen’s new single/video “Wild Heart” is out now ahead of her forthcoming album, Pinto. Several songs on the record were co-written by DiFranco, who also produced the album and is releasing it via RBR on August 22nd.

Both Sage and Ford are prolific songwriters and multi-instrumentalists whose careers have interconnected with pioneering punk-folk activist Ani DiFranco, in different eras but with similarly personal impact. Sage, whose very first tour was as an opening act for DiFranco decades ago, went on to build her own record label MPress – about to celebrate its 30-year anniversary.

Appearing along the “Joy=Resistance Tour” will be luminary musical guests including award-winning Americana-blues vocalist Danielle Howle (Indigo Girls), Ford’s fellow RBR label-mate Jocelyn Mackenzie, Acoustic Guitarist Of The Year Christie Lenée, and LA-based irreverent singer-songwriter and viral sensation Tom Goss. A portion of proceeds from the tour will benefit The Trevor Project.

  • Rachael Sage & the Sequins Release Timely Video/Audio, “Canopy”

Title Track Out Ahead of Forthcoming Debut Full-Band Album Release, Canopy

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has joined forces with her stellar longtime band The Sequins to record “Canopy” (MPress Records), the resolute title track from their forthcoming full-length studio album, Canopy. Equal parts emotional exhale and invitation to a more compassionate future, the inspirational anthem explores radical inclusivity, non-violence, and environmental consciousness. This debut full-band release as Rachael Sage & The Sequins is a much-needed musical reprieve from our current cultural upheaval.

Wrapped in lush instrumentation,”Canopy” combines shimmering folk-pop melodies, cinematic strings, and a chorus that soars with a message of empathy. The self-produced title track summons a brighter tomorrow where shelter is a given for everyone, rather than a luxury for some. Rachael discusses the song, saying: “The absence of women’s voices and their active presence on the world stage is a lot of what has contributed to the violence we currently see, militarily and environmentally. Creating safety and inclusivity in times of divisiveness can be a radical and powerful act; it takes courage to stand up for justice and for our fellow human beings, and through the message of this song I am trying to inspire each of us – including myself – to boldly do that for one another even when it may be uncomfortable or go against the cultural grain to do so.”

Accompanied by The Sequins – violinist Kelly Halloran (Goo Goo Dolls) and drummer Andy Mac (Pete Muller & The Kindred Souls) – along with contributing musicians organist Rob Curto (Klezmatics) and cellist Dave Eggar (Paul Simon), this all-too-timely musical mission statement is bolstered by one of the most memorable hooks of her prolific career. Rachael sings: “I believe with every beating of my heart/ If the world were run by women there would be an end to war/ There would be an end to suffering at the hands of hatred’s shards/ There would be no more buttressing of the vengeance violence starts.” Guest percussionist Doug Yowell (Howard Jones), guitarist James Mastro (Bongos), and Grammy®-nominated bassist/engineer Mikhail Pivovarov also contribute their talents, along with Americana vocal duo Annalyse & Ryan.

  • Rachael Sage Announces Tour and Timely New Single Ahead of Forthcoming Album

Full Album To Follow Late 2025

Acclaimed MPress Records recording artist Rachael Sage is set to unveil her latest full-length studio album later this year, with the title track and first single, “Canopy”, arriving in mid-May alongside a stunning music video. Set for release later this year, Canopy is a collection of songs that feel like a refuge-woven from resilience, longing, and the irrepressible determination to find light in the darkest places. At its heart is the title track and first single, an anthem that folds itself around the listener like a reassuring embrace.

Wrapped in lush instrumentation – bolstered by Sage’s longtime band The Sequins – and one of Sage’s most unforgettable melodies, “Canopy” is a song of quiet strength and radical inclusivity. Fans of Bob Dylan, Sinéad O’Connor, and Alanis Morissette will find much to love in its poetic storytelling and soul-stirring chorus. Blending shimmering folk-pop melodies, cinematic strings, and a chorus that soars with a message of empathy, “Canopy” speaks to the strength found in compassion. It’s for the ones who keep showing up, holding space for others, and sheltering those they love.

Music is at its most powerful when shared, and Sage is bringing Canopy to life onstage with her trio, Rachael Sage & The Sequins, featuring renowned violinist Kelly Halloran (Lainey Wilson, Michael Franti) and Will Wilde, a fast-rising blues-rock harmonica player (Walter Trout). A highlight of the tour will be a special night at The Troubadour in London, where Sage will be joined by surprise guests – to be revealed closer to the show. She and her band will also be appearing at The Great Escape Festival, with exact performance details to be announced soon.

Sage has built a reputation as an electrifying live performer, gracing stages across the world. She has shared the spotlight with legends including Imelda May, Ani DiFranco, Beth Hart, Howard Jones, and Grammy® winners Shawn Colvin and Judy Collins, with whom she recorded a critically acclaimed duet of Neil Young’s “Helpless”. Most recently, she has opened for the likes of Lulu, Will Young, and Hue and Cry, including two sold-out shows at Manchester RNCM Theatre and Gateshead Glasshouse as part of Hue and Cry’s 40th Anniversary Tour. Her festival appearances have spanned from SXSW and Edinburgh Fringe to Pride in London and The Great Escape, consistently captivating audiences with her distinctive mix of folk, Americana, and pop.

Sage’s recent albums, The Other Side and its companion collection, Another Side have cemented her reputation as a masterful storyteller and genre-blending artist. Released in 2023, The Other Side is a deeply introspective and sonically rich album that embraces the warm, classic textures of 70s and 80s folk-pop, while exploring themes of resilience, transformation, and hope. With guest vocals from Howard Jones, along with contributions from Jack Petruzzelli (Patti Smith), Russ Johnson (Elvis Costello), and James Mastro (Ian Hunter), the record offers a lush, deeply moving listening experience.

Building upon that deeply personal collection, Sage later released Another Side, a reimagining of select tracks from The Other Side with a raw, intimate, and stripped-down approach. Featuring collaborations with folk luminaries like Crys Matthews, Amy Speace, and Grace Pettis, Another Side showcases Sage’s gift for reinvention, as she reinterprets her own work – alongside covers of Yazoo’s “Only You” and Maria McKee’s “Breathe” – through a more acoustic, soul-baring lens.

With Canopy, Sage continues this journey of storytelling, reinvention, and emotional connection, offering listeners yet another beautifully crafted, deeply heartfelt collection of songs. Due for release in late summer or early fall, the album promises to be one of her most soulful and thought-provoking works yet.

  • Rachael Sage Releases Official Video for Compelling Track, ‘Albatross (Reimagined)’

Rachael Sage Releases Official Video for Compelling Track, ‘Albatross (Reimagined)’

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released a contemplative official video for “Albatross (Reimagined)” from her recent album, Another Side (MPress Records). The video and song are the musical and cinematic culmination of several years of creative reflection on everything from the loss of loved ones to Covid to political divisiveness, cancel culture, sociopolitical unrest and the ever-present quest for justice and equality in American culture.

Amidst colorful, fractured urban landscapes and the yearning improvised movements of expressive contemporary Broadway dancer Jarren Muse (Motown the Musical, Dreamgirls), Sage sings the question most of us have been prompted to ask in these tumultuous times: “What does it mean to be human? / What cruel misdeeds cannot be undone. …” Helmed by first-time director Pearl Flanagan, filmed by Mike Flanagan, and edited by John Shyloski, this clip may be Sage’s most artful and thought-provoking video yet. The video (coupled with a Q&A) premiered in Ghetto Blaster and Skope Magazine

    Order Another Side HERE

“Albatross (Reimagined)” is a completely reimagined version of this beloved song from Rachael Sage’s album The Other Side. Produced by Sage and recorded/mixed by Mikhail Pivovarov and Grammy® winner Andy Zulla, Sage’s finespun arrangement includes vocal contributions from breakthrough folk artist Crys Matthews. Longtime collaborators Kelly Halloran (violin) and Dave Eggar (Cello) lay the intricate foundation of the recording, while Sage handles the lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and djembe. The song is a rallying cry for empathy amidst a world stage continually fraught with bigotry and violence. Sage and Matthews’ vocals merge seamlessly on this lush roots-rock anthem, reminding us of the power of harmony just when we need it most.

Sage discusses the video, disclosing: “This video was really exciting to make for a variety of reasons, including working with a first-time female director – Pearl Flanagan, whose passion and creative energy really impressed me when we spoke. She and I had a few brainstorming sessions about the imagery we felt could work well – including the idea of cityscapes being projected onto a performance – and we ended up shooting everything in one long, ambitious day running around NYC. Rachael Sage Releases Official Video for Celebratory Track, ‘The Place Of Fun’

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released a celebratory video for “The Place Of Fun (Reimagined)” from her recent album Another Side (MPress Records). Symbolic imagery brings the video to life via shrouded dancing behind a screen, representing the isolation and containment of lockdown while the dancing, playing, and outdoor spaces illustrate our collective liberation back into the wider world, where in-person connection, shared artistry and celebration make life truly worth living. The clip features dancer Carlos Gu, known for appearing on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. Conceived and directed by Irish (London-based) director Lee Malone, the video was filmed in London at the vibrant urban oasis The Yards. It premiered in Guitar Girl (US) and Wonderland (UK).

“The Place Of Fun (Reimagined)” is an acoustic, reimagined version of this favorite from Rachael Sage‘s album The Other Side. With the upfront mandolin laying the bedrock of the song, “The Place Of Fun” features guest vocals and mandolin by award-winning Americana duo Annalyse & Ryan. Sage’s signature finger-picking and acoustic guitars also set the foundation, which bursts with percussion provided by Austin-based Katie Marie (Sophie B. Hawkins), along with Sage’s own acoustic guitar and percussive grooves. While the song is musically upbeat, when listening to the introspective lyrics, one will realize the depth of the song, which centers on finding the inner wisdom we all have and re-evaluating what we want, need, and what truly works in our lives.

Sage discusses the video, revealing: “Performing behind the screen and improvising our movement to the song was so much fun…though I was actually recovering from a fractured shoulder while we were shooting, so I wasn’t 100% but it sort of added to the intensity of the experience for me. There’s nothing more humbling than realizing just how fragile we are in our physical bodies, and to never take for granted the freedom of movement (whether mental or physical) we have in our daily lives. Filming the clip at The Yards in London was a fabulous experience, and the next day I went right back on tour there and got to play this tune at The Palladium supporting the legendary singer Lulu…so it’s been a very exciting journey around this song, and recording this version for my acoustic album ‘Another Side’.”

Rachael discusses “The Place Of Fun,” revealing: “This song is one of those musically upbeat tunes that sounds like it’s a cheerful, groovy track – but when you really listen to the lyrics, it’s chronicling the ups and downs of relationship miscommunication and overthinking. Gradually the words unravel into the resolve to make positive, lasting changes in one’s life. I do truly think there’s wisdom in creating a space where the noise of everything you’re used to, whether it be advice from family, social media or a loved one’s expectations, is turned down so low that you can actually hear your own essence. As a chronic people pleaser, it’s always fun to try to write lyrics that encourage others to do the exact things I find so difficult, including meditating, reflecting, and choosing balance over chaos.”

Rachael discusses “Deepest Dark (Reimagined),” revealing :“The song is about connecting with unconditionally loving friends across whatever distance and keeping that thread energized. It’s a song that honors vital relationships that may not be romantic but are lasting and deep and what may even keep us from falling off a proverbial ledge, in times of darkness. I wrote it as a teenager actually – but I was re-inspired to record it and include on this record after watching the entirety of the series “Stranger Things”, which struck me as a kind of “Stand By Me” for the current generation; it’s really a story about loyal friends getting each other through enormous challenges and rising up together to face adversity with courage and determination. I loved the series and recorded the song in honor of the wonderful young actors on the show!”

About the inspiration behind Another Side, Rachael shared: “Making these new arrangements after touring behind the original record, I was definitely coming from a totally different place. As a songwriter, the longer a song has been in my repertoire, the more varied and nuanced the meaning becomes. The lyrics are always informed by what’s going on in my life, but even more importantly, by the wider world and the triumphs and struggles I witness people going through wherever I’m travelling. I wanted to get just a bit more vulnerable and down-to-earth with these newly reimagined versions…and really strip things down to something I might present in a house concert setting; we listen to each other more meaningfully when the volume is turned down sometimes, and that’s the kind of connection I relish so much as a songwriter.”

Rachael Sage Releases Exquisite Video for 'Deepest Dark'

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released an exquisite video for “Deepest Dark” from her album, The Other Side (via MPress Records). The video premiered in Spill Magazine and Wonderland (UK).

Watch the video for “Deepest Dark” here

Sage elaborates: “Making the video for ‘Deepest Dark’ was such a moving experience, because it’s a song I wrote as a teenager about friendship – but it came to mean so much more when I decided to finally include it on my current album The Other Side, which is about transcendence. The clip was directed by the brilliant Lee Malone and shot at The Asylum Chapel in London, England with my wonderful longtime violinist Kelly Halloran. It was a beautiful and very old location but it was also impossible not to feel the presence of those impoverished souls who had once filled the chapel, yearning for an end to hardship in difficult times. As a song about unconditional acceptance and loyalty, it was a perfect setting to film because we had the opportunity to bring some positive energy and beauty to a place that had undoubtedly seen much suffering. Right now, that feels more timely than ever – and I hope in some small way that’s what we’re able to do out on the road, through performing my music live.”

Sage’s latest studio album The Other Side is the most grounded of her illustrious career, recalling the classic, retro-warmth of the ’70s and ’80s, with memorable Americana-infused pop hooks and folk-fueled poeticism. Blending a myriad of genres and instruments into a cohesive and captivating whole, the album’s musical collaborators include guitarists Jack Petruzzelli (Patti Smith) and James Mastro (Ian Hunter), trumpet player Russ Johnson (Elvis Costello), bassist Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo), and guest vocals from UK pop icon Howard Jones. Track highlights include: “Whistle Blow,” an Americana palette of slide and acoustic guitars, where Sage muses on power dynamics and boundaries; Sage’s folk-pop anthem “The Other Side”, whose memorable gospel-tinged chorus and rapid-fire poeticism make it an instant classic; while the ‘60s-influenced “Flowers For Free” is poetic pop-rock at its most adventurous. Rachael Sage Releases Artful Video for Track ‘I Made a Case’ (Feat. Howard Jones)

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released an artful video for “I Made A Case” from her new 15-track, full-length studio album, The Other Side (via MPress Records). Featuring legendary UK hitmaker (and Sage’s frequent touring mate) Howard Jones on duet vocals, and a Bacharach-esque orchestral arrangement, the poignant ballad captures the age-old dilemma of would-be lovers meeting at the wrong time. Sage enthuses: “It was an enormous honor to have Howard Jones involved in recording the duet version, and he couldn’t have been any more encouraging or positive throughout the process! I’m still pinching myself that one of my very favorite artists and humans agreed to collaborate with me on such a delicate ballad – and was so protective of the song, as well.” Throughout the song, Jones & Sage have beautiful vocal chemistry, and heartbreak never sounded so sweet. The video premiered in Broadway World (US) and Classic Pop Magazine (UK), and is also the centerpiece of a Vinyl District feature.

Directed by Tobias LaMontagne (with additional performance footage shot by Mikhail Pivovarov), the melancholic video is set in a deserted house on the edge of a bluff overlooking a desolate sea. Devoid of people, Sage appears as an apparition while she plaintively performs the song at a piano – a haunting image of a person coming to terms with unrealized love.

  • Rachael Sage Releases Unforgettable Video for Heartfelt Song ‘No Regrets’

Rachael Sage Releases Unforgettable Video for Heartfelt Song ‘No Regrets’

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released a heartfelt new video for “No Regrets” from her new album, The Other Side (out via MPress Records). The video premiered in M Music & Musicians (US) and Music-News (UK). Inspired by a poem written by her Dad, who Sage credits for her love of music and joie de vivre, Sage collaborated with her father to write the ultimate homage to simple gratitude. As intimate as it is universal, “No Regrets” gives thanks for the many little things that define life in all of its beautiful and aching joy, featuring Jack Petruzzelli on guitar (Rufus Wainwright) and Russ Johnson on trumpet (Elvis Costello).

Watch the video for “No Regrets” HERE.

Directed by Nick Clark and filmed by Mike Flanagan, the video captures the bond between Rachael and her Dad as they enjoy the small things that make a life – strolling through Central Park, journaling together, savoring a cold drink, and simply reveling in a loved one’s company. Sage illustrates this in the lyrics: I love life – no take-backs/Ping-pong tables knowing all the facts/College buddies drinking ice cream floats/Coal Miner’s Daughter and The Rolling Stones. Familiar scenes of NYC’s skyline are the background to this simple story of an exuberant, ping-pong-filled, and happy day in the life of a father and daughter (both of whom are in cancer remission), sharing their passion for life and creativity.

Sage discusses the song, saying: “No Regrets is the first song I’ve ever written based on someone else’s poem, and that someone happened to be my wonderful Dad. He had written a few poetic lines on a little notepad while he was recovering from lymphoma, and they were so touching to me that I didn’t ask for permission – I just started immediately setting them to music. Thankfully his health returned fully within some months, and due in large part to music. I asked him what other things he’d like me to include in the song that inspired him the most, and the list was much longer than I could ever incorporate, but ultimately he was very pleased I focused on his friendships, his affection for ping-pong and Loretta Lynn – and his strong penchant for rhyming!”

Sage’s latest studio album is the most grounded of her illustrious career. The Other Side‘s 15 tracks of emotionally charged and intricately woven music recall the classic, retro-warmth of the ’70s and ’80s, and are as instantly hummable as they are lyrically poignant. With memorable Americana-infused pop hooks and folk-fueled poeticism, Sage’s timeless writing reminds us what’s most important is always worth waiting for, via songs steeped in just the right amount of best-is-yet-to-come optimism.

  • Rachael Sage Releases Magical Companion Video for Beatle-Esque Pop-Rock Track ‘Flowers for Free’ From New Album

Rachael Sage Releases Magical Companion Video for Beatle-Esque Pop-Rock Track ‘Flowers for Free’ From New Album

Alt-folk-pop singer-songwriter Rachael Sage has released a colorful new companion video for “Flowers For Free” from her new 15-track full-length studio album, The Other Side (out via MPress Records). The video premiered in Ghetto Blaster and Skope (UK) and is featured currently as one of No Depression’s Fresh Tracks.

Co-produced by Sage with Grammy® winner Andy Zulla and engineer Mikhail Pivovarov, Rachael’s ’60s-influenced “Flowers For Free” is poetic pop-rock at its most adventurous. Beatle-esque wah guitar, baroque trumpet flourishes, chamber strings and Sage’s pulsing piano ground this psychedelic song about never giving up on this earthly life or into the temptation of complacency. Sage’s band, The Sequins, drives the track, with guest guitarists James Mastro (Ian Hunter) and Jack Petruzzelli (Rufus Wainwright) bringing the retro vibes.

    Watch “Flowers For Free” HERE.

Filmed at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, singer-songwriter/visual artist Rachael Sage’s “Flowers For Free” video is three and a half minutes of pure joy. It’s also an apt landscape for a song that, as Sage reveals, is “essentially about the power of self-expression to carry us through crisis.” Directed by John Shyloski and art directed by Sage, the clip showcases the mosaic-based artwork of Isaiah Zagar, in whose colorful mosaics she immediately sensed a stylistic kinship. As she explores this otherworldly environment – playing her own hand-decorated instruments and wearing vibrant attire – the psychedelic, Beatle-esque track comes to life in glorious 3D, and the viewer can’t help but feel transported. As Sage explains: “Isaiah’s gorgeous sense of color and composition, along with his decades of local community outreach through visual art, have made me a longtime fan. It was truly an honor to be able to shoot in such a positive, uplifting urban environment. I was in heaven being surrounded by his creations, and reminded just how much color and light has the ability to shift our perspective for the better.”
