Pennsylvania State Police involved in crash on I-95 in Chester

It happened just before 2 a.m. on I-95 southbound just before the exit to 322 West to West Chester and Highland Avenue.

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) — Police are investigating a crash involving a Pennsylvania State Police vehicle in Chester, Delaware County.

It happened just before 2 a.m. on I-95 southbound just before the exit to 322 West to West Chester and Highland Avenue.

So far there is no word on any injuries.

The road was shut down overnight but has since re-opened.

This is an on-going investigation with Pennsylvania State Police.

Meta shutters its first-party VR game studio Ready at Dawn

Ready at Dawn Studios, the game studio behind the Echo virtual reality series for the Meta Quest, has been shut down by its parent owner, Meta, effective immediately.

Android Central reported Meta’s decision to close Ready at Dawn Studios almost a year and a half after purchasing the game studio. The news comes on the heels of a mid-July report that Meta plans to cut its Reality Labs division’s budget by 20 percent by 2026 when it is reportedly scheduled to release the Meta Quest 4 and Quest 4s, its next VR headsets.

Ready at Dawn’s reach in the gaming industry goes all the way back to the days of Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP). The studio released its first game in 2006 with Daxter, a PSP spinoff of the popular Jak and Daxter series. Ready at Dawn also released three titles in Sony’s God of War series for the PSP including Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta and the Olympus Collection that bundled its two earlier titles. The studio made the jump to consoles starting with the PlayStation 4 in 2015 with The Order: 1886. The Victorian-era third-person action adventure became one of the year’s most anticipated titles for its boundary pushing graphics. Following a wave of mixed reviews, Ready at Dawn took a stab at a multiplayer title with a cheerier disposition in 2017 called De-Formers for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Engadget senior editor Jessica Conditt described the colorful character combat competition as “cannibalism combat in a 3-D cartoon.”

The rise of and ease of access to virtual reality prompted the studio to pivot again in 2018 to the new immersive game medium. The studio released the first two VR titles in its Echo game series including the free-to-play Oculus Rift and Quest virtual sport Echo Arena and the interactive, gravity-free sci-fi adventure Lone Echo. Both found a fanbase on the all-in-one VR headset leading to sequels including the free-floating arena shooter Echo Combat in 2018 and Lone Echo II in 2021.

Oculus bought the studio in 2023 and allowed it to continue operations in its California and Oregon offices. The same year, Meta shut down its free Echo VR game due to dwindling player numbers.

Meta has slashed more than 20,000 jobs since 2023, a period that CEO Mark Zuckerberg has characterized as a “year of efficiency.”

Battling brain disorder, Va. Rep. Wexton uses text-to-voice app in House speech – WTOP News

When Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, stepped to the microphone to tell fellow House members she wanted to rename a post office after a former constituent, the message was clear — but it wasn’t Wexton’s voice making the speech. Monday, Wexton used a text-to-speech application on her iPad, as an assistive device, after last year’s diagnosis with a progressive brain disorder.

When Virginia Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton stepped to the microphone to tell fellow House members she wanted to rename a post office after a former constituent, the message was clear — but it wasn’t Wexton’s voice giving the speech.

On Monday, Wexton used a text-to-speech application on her iPad as an assistive device after last year’s diagnosis with a progressive brain disorder.

Holding her iPad’s speaker next to the microphone, Wexton explained to her colleagues why she was using the adaptive device to continue her work with progressive supranuclear palsy, or PSP.

“PSP makes it very difficult for me to speak, and I use an assistive app so that you and our colleagues can understand me,” Wexton said.

After the brief description of why she was addressing them slightly differently, she moved right to discussing legislation.

“I am proud to be here today speaking in support of my bill to rename the Purcellville, Virginia, post office in honor of my former constituent, the late Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright,” she said.

Wexton said Albright, who died in March 2022, chose to not have her mail delivered to her rural western Loudoun County farm, “but instead, became a fixture at the post office that will bear her name.”

An aide to Wexton told WTOP: “The tech she used yesterday and has been working with over the past month or so during committee hearings and other public speaking engagements is a text to speech app on her iPad.”

The aide said Wexton is able to enter her comments into the app and device, ahead of time. “She can load in a prewritten speech to the app and then have it play out loud. She has also used it in real time on a few occasions, to type out and play questions in committee or in meetings.”

In September 2023, Wexton announced she would not seek reelection after receiving an update on her health.

While receiving treatment for Parkinson’s disease, Wexton received a modified diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy. PSP is a form of atypical parkinsonian syndrome, also known as a Parkinson-plus disorder.

WTOP’s Capitol Hill Correspondent Mitchell Miller says Wexton has widespread admiration from fellow lawmakers for continuing to come to work as she lives with her illness.

“She can be seen at the Capitol, getting assistance from staff, moving slowly and carefully,” said Miller. ” At the outset of her illness, I noticed her speech on the floor started to become more deliberate — it soon became clear why, when she announced that she had PSP.”

Early voting is underway ahead of the June 18 primary election, with 12 Democrats and 4 Republicans running in the primary to replace Wexton.

“By all accounts, she has bravely dealt with this illness, and it is a reflection of her commitment to public service that she has continued to come to Capitol Hill,” said Miller.

How next-generation retail payments solutions lower operating efforts for merchants and corporates – Banking blog
Customers today expect a seamless omni-channel shopping experience with directly integrated payment options. Recently technical progress and the tokenisation of retail payment transactions have enabled omni-channel use cases. In this article we explain how omni-channel payments work in practice and how merchants and corporates are able to benefit from this modern payment solution.

Automatic Tokenisation and Omni-Channel Payments

Modern payments solutions tokenise all transactions to reuse the processed information in future transactions, whether through the same sales channel or others.

Tokenisation describes the encrypting process by which unique identifier replacement numbers are assigned to transactions. If a payment system recognises a token, it decrypts it using the right decryption key to process the data.

Use Case 2, click & reserve: A customer selects a product online, triggering a reservation. The customer is satisfied with the look and feel of the product and pays for it in-store. The payment system recognises the underlying transaction data assigned to the token created during the online selection and uses it automatically to process the payment.

Other relevant omni-channel use cases for merchants and corporates include ‘queue busting’, click & collect’, ‘buy instore & pay at home’, ‘instore e-commerce’ and ‘endless aisle’.

As omni-channel use cases rise, corporates and merchants are bound to implement them. Retail payments today are customer-centric and require a modern payments solution.

Due to the seamlessly integrated payment functions within the different distribution/sales channels, retailers and corporates hardly miss out on any sales as their customers have the freedom to shop across channels and to choose how to pay. Cash has long been the undisputed number one means of payment in daily use as well as in the form of foreign currencies for travel and payments abroad. Credit cards were mostly used by consumers for travel activities and were not very popular with merchants due to high commission costs.
