    Prom is getting a second act in Mount Airy. This time, there are trapezes and a cash bar.

    The Philadelphia School of Circus Arts (PSCA) will host its first Adult Circus Prom on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at its Circus Campus on Greene Street. The 21-and-over event transforms the former church space into a dance floor beneath aerial silks and trapezes, with circus artists performing short acts throughout the night.

    A live DJ will spin hits from the 1970s through today, while guests pose for printed keepsake photos and make their own origami corsages and boutonnieres. During one act, a performer suspended above the crowd will pour champagne into raised glasses, and a cash bar by Tired Hands Brewing Company will serve beer and soda throughout the night.

    The event is meant to recreate the fun of prom without the parts many people would rather forget. There are no cliques, no curfews and no judgment. It’s designed to be welcoming to anyone who skipped prom, felt out of place at theirs or simply wants another chance to dress up and dance. The school, which emphasizes accessibility in its programming, describes the night as an inclusive event where all are welcome.

    While the prom takes place upstairs, a supervised childcare program for kids 5 and older will run in the lower gymnasium. Children can take part in circus games, activities and a movie while parents stay to dance or head out to dinner nearby before returning to the party.

    Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple. Childcare is $30 per child, with a sibling discount available. Tickets are available through the school’s website.

    Gloucester High School juniors and seniors dressed to the nines walked and posed on Stacy Boulevard on Friday night, a prelude to a promenade before family and friends and the prom.

    The official promenade was held at the Gloucester High field house before hundreds of friends and family before the students headed to the Danversport Yacht Club for their prom.

    Graduation is Sunday, June 9, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Newell Stadium.

    The Rockport High School prom was also Friday night, at the Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown. Rockport High’s Class of 2024 graduates Friday, June 7, 5-7 p.m. on the Ryan-Curley Athletic Field, behind Rockport High School, 24 Jerden’s Lane (weather permitting).

    Manchester Essex Regional High School’s commencement was Friday on Hyland Field, 42-50 Lincoln St. in Manchester-by-the-Sea. The prom was  May 23 at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield.

    A group of teenagers with chronic illnesses and special medical needs had the chance to attend a prom of their own on Saturday.

    Nemours Children’s Health hosted the “Out of This World” prom for the teens at their children’s hospital in Orlando.

    Before the event, the prom-goers had the chance to have their hair and makeup done by professional stylists.

    “Look at me, I feel so cute,” said Harmony Taylor. “I’m very, very, very excited to be here.”

    Taylor suffers from cyclic vomiting syndrome, a condition that causes sudden, repeated and severe episodes of vomiting and nausea.

    The hospital rolled out the red carpet for the medically inclusive event so that the teens would have the chance to attend the rite of passage.

    “The event aims to provide an environment that is more conducive for teen patients who, because of their chronic illnesses and complex health situations, are not able to attend a traditional school prom,” a news release read in part.

    Officials said the prom was supported by Five Below, Addition Financial, Opera Orlando, Florida Space Institute, BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation, Aveda Salon and Grove Salon.

    A global pandemic robbed them of their senior proms. Now that they’re seniors again, University of Maryland students thought it’s time they get their moment.

    “We didn’t have graduation, we didn’t have prom, we didn’t have a lot of things. So we kind of wanted to backtrack and give students the opportunity … to have the prom they never had,” senior council president Omoleye Adeyemi told WTOP.

    She said Friday night was all about taking their proms back from COVID-19.

    “It’s kind of like that ‘finally’ feeling, because we finally get to have it,” Adeyemi said. “But it’s also nostalgic because it takes them back to high school.”

    After three separate ticket drops, the event sold out before May 10. Seniors gathered for this unique farewell in the grand ballroom of the Stamp Student Union building in College Park, wearing their best prom night clothes.

    “It’s really nice to know that the UMD community is thinking of seniors and what we missed out on four years ago,” said senior Peggy Mothershed. She attended with her best friend and fellow senior class member, Savanna Janney.

    “We’re going to have a great time!” Savanna said enthusiastically. And that enthusiastic attitude was contagious.

    “This is a school-sponsored event, so we’re going to keep it safe,” senior Chris Esmele joked. “But after this, as grown-ups, we’re able to really party in a way … to get that prom we never got.”

    Esmele also said this prom feels even better, because of the closer bonds he has with some of his college friends.

    “Whether you’re here with your partner or with friends, it feels more foundational in terms of relationships, and that’s what makes tonight special,” he said.

    “It’s kind of a full circle moment tonight,” added Mothershed.

The movie was filmed at Payson High School in Utah, and now Bacon is returning for the school’s prom on the 40th anniversary of the premier.  And boy, have things changed.  In 2018, Utah approved and started legal medical marijuana, a first step toward recreational. So now patients in Payson can dance and consume.

    Bacon’s career continued in such diverse vehicles as Frost/Nixon, X-Men: First Class, Crazy Stupid, Love, and I Love Dick Six Degrees.  There is even a fun game/meme of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon where players try to connect actors or people to others within 6 connections – and the less connections the better.  After all this, does Kevin Bacon use weed and chill?

    Well, the answer is Bacon cuts loose and enjoys the plant. He is very open about it and in fact shared. “Different people react differently to it,” Bacon said. “I’m okay as long as I’m in a super, super safe kind of situation … I need to be like in bed, or something’s on. Like work, never, never, never … otherwise I can get a little paranoid.”

    But sometimes, things happen. Kevin Bacon revealed to Seth Meyers he got high on marijuana with co-star Daniel Stern before filming a scene for the 80’s hit Diner. Thinking they had the day off, he and Stern head to a movie theatre to chill and watch a film.  Partially through the movie, he got called to return to the set.  Stern was not need and laughing is head off.

    “I was fine. It turned out that the scene was just me walking in the background or something like that. Plus the adrenaline just straightened me right up,” Bacon said.

    Krya Sedgwick, Bacon’s wife,  shared to prep for a role, she got stoned with him. Marijuana is a great material aid, maybe it is one of the reasons the Hollywood couple has been together for 35 years.     It is great Bacon has kept up the fight to open people’s minds about new things.

    With the high cost of prom, many students have trouble affording the dress and accessories to make them feel beautiful on the night of the dance.

    With the high cost of prom, many students have trouble affording the dress and accessories to make them feel beautiful on the night of the dance.

    That’s where “Project Prom Dress” steps in. It’s the third year for the annual prom attire giveaway event for all high schoolers.

    The event is currently looking for you to go through that closet and find your old dresses, accessories and suits to donate for the event on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    More than 160 teens attended the event last year.

    The event started in 2022 with more than 1,700 dresses available for teens to peruse.

    “Celebrating prom is a ‘rite of passage’ for many students, unfortunately the high cost of prom apparel and accessories prohibit many students from participating,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Every student deserves the right to attend their prom. I encourage any resident or business with prom related items to donate to us and help provide this memorable experience to our young adults.”

    Dresses, shoes, accessories and suits made from 2010 to the present, in “wearable condition,” can be donated from Feb. 12 through Feb. 29 at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    There will also be special collection dates hosted by Montgomery County Recreation on:

    • March 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center at 4301 Willow Lane in Chevy Chase.
    • March 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Germantown Community Recreation Center at 18905 Kingsview Road in Germantown.

    The items will be dry cleaned and put into the boutique on April 13. Any high schooler with a valid high school ID can go to the event, shop the racks, and get one free complete outfit.
