5 Products That Eliminate Odor, Not Just Mask It

This year, my family and I moved into our new house in Tennessee. It had been sitting vacant for a while, and therefore, smelled a bit stale. We’re also a household of seven, including two dogs, a cat, and three little kids who play lots of sports. This means there’s a lot of smells going on in our home.

I really don’t want our home to smell bad. But I know that you can get used to the way your home smells, so much so that it can be difficult to distinguish whether or not it’s an unpleasant scent. That’s why I try my best to identify what it must smell like to our guests by taking it all in when I walk in the door after being outside.

Additionally, while I like lighting candles for the ambiance they provide and diffusing essential oils for their gentle aroma, I prefer to not mask household odors and instead neutralize them.

After trying several different things, I think I’ve figured out a way to deal with all the particular odors that can be an issue in our home. Here are three odor eliminating products I’ve found that keep my home smelling presentable.

Fact: Every kitchen needs a set of good glass jars or canisters to keep food fresh. Whether you’re storing baking staples (such as flour and sugar), stocking bulk grains (such as rice, quinoa, and oats), or packing up your meal prep for the week, you can’t argue with the versatility of a glass storage container. But, with so many shapes and sizes out there, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose from the vast selection. Which ones actually keep food fresh? Which ones make sense in a pantry? Which ones can you skip? If you’re not sure where to start, don’t worry: We’re here to help. We’ve scoured the web for the best dry goods containers, containers for leftovers, and spice jars to create the most comprehensive list around — and then we narrowed down the list to our favorite 16 options. • It’s Official: These Coveted Perfumes Prove Rose Has Outgrown Its Grandma Label

It’s Official: These Coveted Perfumes Prove Rose Has Outgrown Its Grandma Label

    [ad_1]

As recently as a year or so ago, the thought of rose perfume immediately made my nose wrinkle. Bags of potpourri, heady bouquets of red roses, and, sorry, my dear Grandma Evelyn’s powdery-pink cardigans came to mind. Of course, all of the above are lovely and nostalgic in their own special ways, but the sampling isn’t exactly what I’m going for when I’m searching for a new signature scent or when I’m reaching for a perfume pre-date. But then, something weird happened. Suddenly, almost every new fragrance launch I received featured rose as its MVP, and I found that I liked each new fragrance better than the last.

So, long story short, I’m now infatuated with rose perfumes, and in addition to rediscovering the cult classics that definitely aren’t old-fashioned, plenty of the most coveted perfume houses have been debuting new iterations of the floral scent. Some are balanced with citrus or juicy stone fruits, while others veer warm and spicy thanks to musks, pepper, or vanilla. Regardless, some of the absolute best perfumes on the market right now put rose front and center as their compliment-inducing It factor. There are plenty more where this comes from, but below, I’m sharing 13 standout rose perfumes that absolutely disprove the notion that rose is old-fashioned or reserved for grandparents only. Keep scrolling!

  • These Cool-Girl Fragrances Are the Chicer Versions of Body Mists I Loved in 2005

These Cool-Girl Fragrances Are the Chicer Versions of Body Mists I Loved in 2005

    [ad_1]

The year is 2005. I’m getting ready to go to the mall with my friend (her mom is going to drop us off because neither of us is old enough to drive ourselves). We’re listening to Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, and The Black Eyed Peas, as I try to decide which body mist to use. I have such classics as Victoria’s Secret Love Spell, Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, and a no-name bottle of blue raspberry-scented solution that I purchased at Claire’s. I choose the latter and douse myself in a dripping cloud of it. Life is good.

Fast forward to the modern day—almost a full 20 years later!—and I’m a beauty editor who fondly reminisces about her first foray into fragrance. My perfume collection has indeed changed. Now, it’s full of high-end and expensive glass bottles, but believe it or not, I still use body mists—albeit chic, grown-up ones.

I’m talking about Phlur’s latest launches. The cool-girl fragrance brand recently released three body/hair mists, and I can’t stop spritzing them. There’s a sultry amber, a classic vanilla, and a bright citrus scent. Each one is better than the next, and even though they give me some serious nostalgia, they feel elevated and mature. Keep scrolling to see all three!

  • Danielle Brooks Wants To Keep Us On Our Toes This Award Season

Danielle Brooks Wants To Keep Us On Our Toes This Award Season

    [ad_1]

Brooks’s award show morning routine looks a little something like this: She starts with a calming salt bath with bubbles as Al Green plays in the background. She then jumps into the shower to rinse off— “A lot of people don’t do that, but I do,” she says—and wash her hair. She lotions up really well and orders breakfast. On the menu: Fruit, an iced green matcha with almond milk (a new favorite), and of course, lots and lots of water.

When Brooks’s glam team, stylist Jennifer Austin, hairstylist Tish Celetine, and makeup artist Rebekah Aladdin, arrive, that’s when the real fun starts. Brooks and her team have booked out a lengthy four hours for the getting ready process, because if experience has taught her anything, things come up, so it’s better to be prepared. The vibes in the room are immaculate—dancing is a must—and the champagne is flowing. There’s only one goal, and that is to soak up and enjoy every moment.

  • I’m Always Saving Barbara Palvin’s Beauty Looks—I Asked Her How She Creates Them

I’m Always Saving Barbara Palvin’s Beauty Looks—I Asked Her How She Creates Them

    [ad_1]

There’s absolutely no denying that model has a unique ability to flawlessly execute beauty trends while embracing her natural features. A quick scroll through her Instagram page reveals a feed peppered with everything from editorial photo shoots with major brands to snaps of her everyday life. “When I’m in a time crunch, my go-to products are Armani Beauty’s Luminous Silk Foundation, Eyes to Kill Wet Waterproof Mascara, and Lip Powder Lipstick,” she explains. “Even just these three products make such a difference in helping me look put-together.” In many of her personal pics posted to her page, Palvin sports fresh-faced, barely-there makeup looks while on the go.

It’s no wonder her approach to quick and easy makeup happens to be the blueprint of the social media–driven “model off duty” look that’s risen to prominence over the past couple of years. Palvin also has a soft spot for 2023’s ‘90s-inspired makeup trends, more of which we’ll be seeing throughout this year on and off the runway. “[I] just want the ’90s strong-lip-liner trend to stay,” says Palvin. In 2024, beauty trends are certainly skewing in her favor, with chocolate-colored liner and full, glossy lips predicted to stick around a while longer with modern-day products.

The arrival of January gives us the perfect opportunity to hop on the last of winter’s beauty trends, and I’ll be taking cues from Palvin to kick off the New Year in style. “I always love to go with a stronger lip—not necessarily a classic red lip, but maybe something deeper and darker,” she says. To create this bold look, she layers Armani’s Lip Power Matte in shades 603 and 207. The stunning lip combo is also her go-to during the holiday season.

  • The Saltburn Cast Wore This $9 Product to Look “Hot, Sweaty, and Flushed”

The Saltburn Cast Wore This $9 Product to Look “Hot, Sweaty, and Flushed”

    [ad_1]

    Photo:

    MGM/Amazon Studios

I recently watched Saltburn, and I’m still reeling about three things: First, I never expected the ending and kept thinking about it for days afterward. Second, I’m still not over *that* scene (I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but Saltburn viewers know exactly which one I’m talking about). Third, I was struck by how perfect the cast looked in the close-up scenes. And I don’t mean it in an airbrushed sense; I mean perfect in that their skin looked natural, flushed, and slightly sweaty at times. In a word, their skin looked real, like I was standing right next to them on a hot summer’s day.

According to the film’s hair and makeup designer, Siân Miller, that was on purpose. In an interview with New Beauty, she explained, “The makeup and hair team had to ensure the cast looked real, to contrive the uncontrived. This always takes some doing—if not more so than what’s blatantly obvious. Reality was essential in order to anchor these characters within the grandiose world of Saltburn.”

Part of creating that “reality” was ensuring the characters looked “hot, sweaty, and flushed” for their close-ups. It only makes sense, as they’re supposed to be relaxing (and plotting) at an English manor during the height of summer. Keep scrolling to see the exact $9 product Miller used to create this effect. Hint: it’s a cult classic, just like we’re predicting this movie will be.

  • Everyone Will Be Wearing This Alluring Perfume Trend in 2024

Everyone Will Be Wearing This Alluring Perfume Trend in 2024

    [ad_1]

Perfume is a highly personal product choice, so it doesn’t often follow the same trend cycles as other beauty products. If you prefer smoky or woodsy scents, there’s a minimal chance you’ll opt for a fruity or sweet perfume, even if it’s “on trend.”

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t still trends in the realm of fragrance, though. Last year, fruity perfumes took center stage, with the year’s best fragrances featuring hints of notes like cherries, grapes, tangerines, and figs. This year, the trending scent notes are warm and floral.

    I'm a Beauty-Product Snob, and These 10 Got Me Through 2023

As a beauty editor, my desk is a revolving door for new beauty products. Chances are, most products that have launched in the past year have either made their way into my hands or into my inbox. Needless to say, it takes a lot for a product to impress me—if I try a product that I don’t like, I’ll almost immediately donate it or give it to a friend.

There are very few products I would actually use to the last drop, but this year, I had a few favorites. Keep reading for some of the products that got me through the past year—they’re all well worth the money.

I Tested Dossier's Under-$55 Dupes for Le Labo, Chanel, and More—These Impressed

    [ad_1]

If you’ve been following Who What Wear Beauty for a while now, you already know we lean a tad fiendish when it comes to scent and the art of smelling good. Unfortunately for us and our wallets, however, the majority of our all-time favorite perfumes cost a pretty penny—sometimes upward of $200 and $300. Even though I don’t necessarily mind investing in high-quality scents that I love, affordable price points shouldn’t be reserved for the cheap fares that we spritzed over our layered polos and tanks circa middle school.

That’s exactly where Dossier comes in. It’s an affordable, alternative fragrance line that you might already be familiar with (thanks, TikTok) but prides itself on providing fragrance lovers with “premium-quality, ethical, affordable perfume for all.” And really, the brand is low-key serving us the best of all worlds when it comes to fragrance: transparency, craftsmanship (with every bottle, you’re receiving the highest-quality perfume sourced from Grasse, France), clean formulas (fragrances are vegan, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free), sustainable and green (Dossier even gives returned bottles to charity), and anti-snob access that allows the masses to enjoy more affordable iterations of some of the most loved scents in the business. Brilliant, right?
